'Aranyak' co-writer Rohan Sippy believes OTT belongs to writers and actors

Mumbai, Dec 31 (IANS) Filmmaker-writer Rohan Sippy, who has been garnering positive responses for his web series, 'Aranyak', feels that good writing clubbed with good performances are the mainstay for the medium of OTT.

For him, both the verticals need to work in close association to extract the best out of each other and eventually shape the film or series.

He shares his observation saying: "I believe that OTT is the writer's medium at the top, very closely aligned with the actors'. When you are getting into drama, comedy, or relationship kind of a thing for your stories, then it's really about actors who can compel you and make you sit down."

Recollecting his experience of working with actor Pankaj Tripathi, he says: "I had the good fortune of working with Pankaj Tripathi and you can see what he brings to this medium. Be it Pankaj, Param (Parambrata Chattopadhyay) or Raveena; they all can use this medium wonderfully."

"And of course, all the heads of departments have to work really hard because you are looking to do film quality at maybe four times the speed of films. But, writing and performance really are the heart and soul of this medium", he concludes.

'Atrangi Re' On Hotstar: The Viewership Data For Akshay Kumar, Dhanush, And Sara Ali Khan's Revealed

Mumbai, December 27 - Filmmaker Anand L Rai's romantic-drama "Atrangi Re" starring Dhanush, and Sara Ali Khan, along with Akshay Kumar in the extended cameo, is having a good run on the OTT space. The movie was directly released on Disney+Hotstar on December 24, and as announced by the streamer, the film became the most-viewed Hotstar title on a premier day. ## While Hotstar announced that "Atrangi Re" is its most-viewed film on the first day, the question remains about the views it got. The OTT platforms have always been on the receiving side for manipulating viewership data and for their lack of transparency.## Ormax Media, a media consulting firm that tracks viewership figures of top releases across major platforms, is one of the trustable sources when it comes to viewership numbers. According to the company, "Atrangi Re" easily topped the last week by a long margin. The movie gained over 8.8 million views in the first 3 days, almost double than Sushmita Sen's "Aarya" Season 2's 4.7 million views from Dec. 20 to 26th. ## "Atrangi Re" was released in Hindi and Tamil (dubbed). The Tamil version was released due to the presence of Kollywood superstar Dhanush. Written by Himanshu Sharma, the movie got mixed responses from critics and viewers alike, who praised the unconventional plot, performances of the lead actors, however, called the screenplay incoherent and messed up with poor execution of the overall storyline. ## Produced by T-Series, Colour Yellow Productions, and Cape of Good Films, "Atrangi Re" marks Akshay's second direct OTT release. IANS Review: 'Atrangi Re': Intriguing narrative keeps you hooked (IANS Rating: ***)

Film: 'Atrangi Re' (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar); Duration: 138 minutes. ## Director: Aanand L. Rai. Cast: Akshay Kumar, Dhanush, Sara Ali Khan, Seema Biswas, Ashish Verma and Dimple Hayathi. ## Rating: *** ## Treated like a light-hearted romance-comedy, 'Atrangi Re' promises a love story with a difference, and it is a familiar but not a different tale to an extent. ## To enjoy the film, you need to empathise with Rinku (Sara Ali Khan), an orphan from Bihar who is forced to marry the kidnapped Dr. S. Vishwanath Iyer (Dhanush), a Tamilian from Chennai visiting her hometown. ## Competing in this love story is Vishu's girlfriend Mandakini, aka Mandy (Dimple Hayathi), who is the daughter of his dean, who is supposed to get engaged to Vishu in the next few days. And the other member in this love-quadrangle is the magician Sajjad Ali Khan (Akshay Kumar), with whom Rinku is head-over-heels. ## The narrative leads you through an intriguing path. It allows you to fantasize about myriad possibilities ahead. That is what keeps you hooked. But by the end, you realise that while the concept is interesting, the narrative is frothily shallow and a bit disappointing. ## The film begins on a dramatic note with Rinku frenetically running away from home, and ever thence you notice especially during the first half, every frame seems to be designed in a frenzy. Someone or the other is running across the screen. These long continuous shots are skilfully captured, and they only add drama to the scenes. ## Sara Ali Khan, as the rustic and boisterous Rinku, delivers a relatable performance, but when, in a scene with Sajjad, she breaks into English, you apprehend that her character has not been chiselled, to perfection. ## Similarly, Dhanush is charming all the way, there are times where your heart goes out for him, but once again, his character seems to be short-changed by the script, for there are moments when his emotional arch is cut short. ## Dimple Hayathi is a competent actress but with limited screen time, her histrionics is not brought to the fore. ## After a long time, Akshay Kumar looks fresh and young on-screen, and he delivers a fairly buoyant performance not overshadowing either Sara or Dhanush. ## Seema Biswas as Rinku's feisty and autocratic grandmother Dhulhayen, Ashish Verma as Vishu's friend and colleague Madhu, and the rest of the supporting cast leave their mark on the screen. ## Technically the film is astutely mounted with great production qualities. Also, the songs and the background score are loud and upbeat, and they mesh with the narrative seamlessly. ## Overall, Atrangi Re speaks about the language of the heart, but with no Hindi or English subtitles to the Tamil dialogues spoken by Vishu and his ilk, the finer nuances of the words spoken are lost in guesstimation. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

Mumbai, December 4 - Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan, and Dhanush-starrer "Antrangi Re" is all set to premiere directly on Disney Plus Hostar on December 24. The movie was supposed to release in theaters but due to the second covid-19 wave and overcrowded theatrical releases, the makers thought of releasing the film on OTT will be a good result for the film. ## The title of the film, "Atrangi Re" has been attracting viewers, and now, director Anand L Rai reveals that he was lucky to get the title. In a recent conversation with ETimes, Rai revealed that the "Atrangi Re" title was already registered with Salman Khan Productions but he gave it to him on one condition. ## "Salman Bhai had the title registered to his production house but he gave it to me on one condition. He told his associates to give the title rights only if I direct the film, otherwise, they wouldn't have let it go". ## Rai also recalled, "There's an interesting story about the time when I went to the film association to get both the titles. I did not get 'Atrangi Re' but when I asked for the title of 'Raksha Bandhan', forget having attempted a story on the subject, nobody had even registered the title".## "Atrangi Re" has been written by Himanshu Sharma and the musical maestro AR Rahman has composed the album for the film with songs penned by Irshad Kamil.
