IMDb Unveils Top 10 Most Popular Indian Movies of 2025 Till July 1st

Mumbai, July 9 - The half of the year has been completed, and IMDb has unveiled the list of the top 10 most popular Indian movies of 2025 so far. The list includes films released between January 1, 2025 and July 1, 2025, that have an average IMDb user rating of 6 or higher with at least 10,000 votes. ## Determined by the actual page views of the more than 250 million monthly visitors to IMDb worldwide, all the top 10 popular films had a theatrical release. Of the top 10 titles, six are Bollywood films, followed by three Tamil films, and one Malayalam movie. ## 1. Chhaava (Hindi) - Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Maddock Films, the historical action drama features Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna in the leading roles. It is currently the highest-grossing Indian film with over 800 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office. ## 2. Dragon (Tamil) - Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and starring Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, and Gautham Vasudev Menon, Dragon is a coming-of-age comedy-drama released on February 21, 2025. It is the second-highest-grossing Tamil movie of the year so far, with over 150 crores worldwide collection. ## 3. Deva (Hindi) - The action thriller film, despite underperforming at the box office, remained one of the most popular Indian movies on IMDb. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the movie stars Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde in the leading roles. It grossed around 56 crores worldwide. ## 4. Raid 2 (Hindi) - The crime action thriller, directed by Rajkumar Gupta and starring Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, and Vaani Kapoor, is one of the most successful Indian films of the year. The film delivered robust box office numbers, solidifying its success with over 200 cr in domestic gross and earnings of around 237 cr worldwide. ## 5. Retro (Tamil) - The romantic action thriller, starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde, was one of the most anticipated Tamil movies of the year, but it underperformed at the box office, despite grossing close to 100 crores worldwide. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Retro is among the most popular Indian titles of the year. ## 6. The Diplomat (Hindi) - John Abraham headlines this political thriller inspired by real events. Directed by Shivam Nair, the film was a decent success at the global box office, grossing over 50 crores gross collection in its full run. ## 7. L2: Empuraan (Malayalam) - The Mohanlal-starrer political action thriller, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was the most anticipated Malayalam movie of the year, and delivered box office performance accordingly by emerging as the biggest Malayalam grosser of all-time, with a worldwide collection of over 265 crores gross. The controversy helped the film perform in its home state, Kerala, where it grossed around 90 crores. ## 8. Sitaare Zameen Par (Hindi) - This comedy drama marked a comeback for superstar Aamir Khan by delivering at the box office. Directed by RS Prasanna, SZP is only the second movie of Aamir in the post-COVID-19 era, and it timely scored success for the actor, grossing over 235 crores worldwide (19 days) and is still playing in theatres. ## 9. Kesari Chapter 2 (Hindi) - Easily one of the best films of the year, this biographical drama, starring Akshay Kumar, Ananya Pandey, and R. Madhavan, won everyone's heart with its emotional subject, strong performance, and technical brilliance. The movie emerged as a success at the box office, grossing close to 150 crores worldwide. ## 10. Vidaamuyarchi (Tamil) - A major box office shock, this Tamil action thriller, starring Ajith Kumar, remained one of the most popular Indian titles in the first half of the year. Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, the film was penned by critics and was equally disliked by audiences. Multiple Climaxes For Shahid Kapoor's Action Thriller 'Deva'

Mumbai, January 20 - After the success of romantic-comedy Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya last year, Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor returns to the big screen with director Rosshan Andrrews' action thriller Deva which is scheduled to be released on January 31. ## The film has been making the right noise ahead of its release with whatever content has been released so far. The makers are leaving no stone unturned to deliver a perfect action thriller, and in this process, the director has shot multiple climax scenes to keep the secrecy. ## According to the report by Pinkvilla, three climaxes of the film have been shot and one of them will be locked in the final edit which is known to only the ones in the top tier of filmmaking. "Since Deva is a thriller about a murder that has taken place, it's crucial to avoid leaks. The team came up with the idea of shooting for three different climaxes, have three different versions on who is the killer", says the report. ## The makers have done well so far to keep the suspense intact while keeping the audience excited with the release of a well-cut teaser and trailer as well as songs. "Very few know what the reality is and which version makes it to the cinema halls on January 31. This secrecy ensures an added layer of suspense not just for audiences but for the team as well", the report added. ## Deva is produced by Roy Kapur Films and Zee Studios. Vicky Kaushal's 'Chhaava' and Shahid Kapoor's 'Deva' Get New Release Dates

Mumbai, November 27 - Vicky Kaushal's historical action drama Chhaava has been postponed to February 2025. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, was supposed to hit the big screen on December 6 and was to clash with Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 - The Rule before Maddock Films decided to shift the release. ## Produced by Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films, Chhaava will now be released on February 14. The release date holds special significance since it coincides with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on 19 February. The movie is an adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant and is based on the life of Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, played by Vicky Kaushal.## Chhaava also stars Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai Bhonsale and Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb along with others in key roles.## Meanwhile, the postponement of Chhaava to February 14, 2025, means Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde's action thriller Deva has been moved up by a couple of weeks. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the movie will now be released on January 31 after getting preponed from February 14. ## Deva, produced by Roy Kapur Films and Zee Studios, will be Shahid Kapoor's next theatrical release after this year's romantic comedy Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya which was a box office hit. 'Cocktail' Sequel In The Works With Shahid Kapoor

Mumbai, November 23 - With franchises making waves at the Bollywood box office, more and more standalone films are getting sequels and the latest to join this trend is 2012's romantic comedy Cocktail which was headlined by Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty. ## Directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Maddock Films with others, Cocktail was a box office hit with over 120 crores gross collection worldwide. Now, more than a decade later when franchises are succeeding at the box office, Maddock Films has put Cocktail 2 in the making. ## According to the report by Peepingmoon.com, producer Dinesh Vijan has been working idea of the sequel with director Homi Adajania and they've now crafted a storyline that they believe matches the magic of the first film. Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor is in talks to headline the project. ## Shahid has not yet signed on the dotted line but has reportedly verbally committed to this film, which would mark his second collaboration with Maddock following this year's robotic romantic comedy Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. The report further states that the talks are on with young actresses to come on board. ## The film is expected to start rolling by the middle of 2025 after Shahid completes Vishal Bhardwaj's action thriller which goes on the floor this December. Shahid Kapoor's 'Ashwatthama' Shelved?

Mumbai, November 16 - Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor was roped in to headline Pooja Entertainment's mega-budgeted epic Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues. Kannada director Sachin B. Ravi of Avane Srimannarayana fame was on board to direct the film. ## Since the announcement, the film, however, has faced delays and challenges and now, according to the report by Mid-Day, the project has been put on hold indefinitely due to budgetary constraints. It is said that the movie was planned to be made for 500 crores but it was escalating as pre-production advanced. ## The report quoted an insider saying that the project's scale was enormous and was supposed to be shot across multiple countries. However, after they started working on it, the makers felt it was a massive challenge to make it within the planned budget.## Pooja Entertainment, on the other hand, has reportedly been in a financial crisis with back-to-back major box office flops and considering all these things, the team led to a decision to pause production until these issues could be resolved.## Shahid Kapoor, on the other hand, has reportedly moved on from this ambitious project and has started preparation for Vishal Bhardwaj's action thriller film. The actor also has OMG 2 director Amit Rai's historical action drama based on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
