Box Office: Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani Opening Day/First Friday Early Estimates

Mumbai, July 28 - Karan Johar's directorial return "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani" has a decent opening at the box office. The movie started on a decent note in the morning shows but due to super solid word of mouth, it showed a very good jump in the evening and night shows. ## The early estimates suggest the opening in the range of 11-12 crores net for this Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt-starrer. The opening of the movie in the mid-10s would have been a very good one considering the budget but that is not the case anymore as it won't reach there.## RRKPK is strong in multiplexes but not that strong in single screens which is expected for this kind of genre. However, it was much for the movie to cross the double-digit mark which it has comfortably done. The opening of 11-12 crores net has given RRKPK a chance to grow over the weekend as word of mouth seems to be very positive. ## The movie should show gains on Saturday and Sunday as the 3-day weekend could well be around 40-45 crores net. Mumbai, July 28 - Well-known Bollywood filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari's romantic drama "Bawaal" starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor was supposed to be an experimental love story in the backdrop of World War II but it is turning into a major controversial attempt on this historical chapter.## The film has been accused of trivializing and demeaning the deaths of millions of Jews killed during the Holocaust by using Auschwitz as a metaphor for relationship problems. Many critics in India and internationally have slammed the film for drawing parallels to Jews suffering in Auschwitz camp and dying. ## Produced by Nadiadwala Entertainment, "Bawaal" tells the story of a history teacher who is embarrassed by his new wife's epilepsy. As they travel together to Europe to visit historic second world war sites, they fall in love with each other.## The movie receives a strong rebuke from the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC), an NGO dedicated to the well-being of Jews as well as the Holocaust victims. The NGO has issued a statement demanding the removal of the film from Amazon Prime Video which is the exclusive streaming partner of the film. ## "Auschwitz is not a metaphor. It is the quintessential example of Man's capacity for Evil. By having the protagonist in this movie declare that 'Every relationship goes through their Auschwitz', Nitesh Tiwari, trivializes and demeans the memory of 6 million murdered Jews and millions of others who suffered at the hands of Hitler's genocidal regime", SWC said in a statement.## The NGO called on Amazon to remove the movie from its platform and to stop "monetizing" the Holocaust. "If the filmmaker's goal was to gain PR for their movie by reportedly filming a fantasy sequence at the Nazi death camp, he has succeeded. Amazon Prime should stop monetizing Bawaal by immediately removing this banal trivialization of the suffering and systematic murder of millions of victims of the Nazi Holocaust", the statement further read. Prime Video has not responded yet.## "Bawaal" was meant for theatrical release before makers changed their minds and send the movie directly to Amazon Prime Video. CBFC Asks For Major Changes In Akshay Kumar-Starrer 'OMG 2': Report

Mumbai, July 26 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's social comedy-drama "OMG 2" is scheduled to release on August 11 but the makers are yet to receive the censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).## It was recently reported that the Examining Committee (EC) of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) referred the Akshay Kumar-starrer to the Revising Committee (RC) due to its religious content. It has been reported that CBFC is being very careful about the movie as it feels "OMG 2" content is slightly controversial.## Now, according to Bollywood Hungama, the Revising Committee has suggested several changes in the films, which the makers are not comfortable with. "In all, the RC has asked for 20 cuts. These include both visual and audio deletions. On top of it, they have also suggested the makers opt for an adults-only certification", the report says.## The makers, however, are reportedly not ready for these many changes as they believe that it'll affect the essence of the film. They are also not okay with an "A" certificate. After all, they feel that the topic of sex education should be seen by people of all ages. ## The makers have been putting their efforts to get the movie censored as soon as possible so that they could release the trailer and have an on-scheduled release. It is directed by Amit Rai and is produced by Cape of Good Films, Viacom18 Studios, and Wakaoo Films. The maverick director is currently busy with the pre-production work of the highly-anticipated "Singham Again", fronted by Ajay Devgn. ## According to Pinkvilla, Tiger has been roped in to play a cop role in "Singham 3". It will be a cameo appearance for the actor who is the latest entrant in the much talked about cop universe. The "Heropanti" star will be joining the lead actor Ajay Devgn along with Akshay Kumar, and Ranveer Singh who will reprise their roles as Sooryavanshi and Simmba, respectively as extended cameo appearances, in the first schedule.## "It's a schedule of combination dates with Singham, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi. The trio will be shooting by September end/early October and Tiger Shroff too will be joining them for a short 6 to 7-day period", the report says, adding that apart from the schedule of combination dates, Tiger will also be shooting for his personality entry sequence in Singham. ## Tiger, who will get his solo cop movie in Shetty's cop universe in the future, has reportedly allotted 12 days for the shoot for his cameo in "Singham 3" and is ready for more if Shetty demands. It is said that "Singham Again" will lead to a solo movie for Tiger as well as Deepika Padukone who will also be making her debut in this cop universe with the upcoming movie. ## "Singham Again" is the fifth movie in Rohit Shetty's cop universe after "Singham", "Singham Returns", Simmba", and "Sooryavanshi". Two more solo films will be made going further, including a female-led one by Deepika Padukone. The duo created magic with the "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2" last year with a worldwide gross collection of over 260 crores before producer Bhushan Kumar of T-Series officially announced "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3". ## Now, according to Pinkvilla, the shoot of BB3 will commence in February 2024 and it will be hitting theaters worldwide on Diwali later in the year. "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is in the scripting stage at the moment and the team has locked the basic plot for the third part of this iconic horror comedy franchise. It will be shot over a period of 4 months", the report says.## "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3" will clash with Akshay Kumar-fronted much bigger IP, "Housefull 5" which will go on floors in December this year on Diwali next year. Interestingly, the first "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" (2007) was led by Akshay Kumar and was directed by Priyadarshan. So, it will be an interesting battle between BB3 and HF5. ## Meanwhile, before starting BB3, Anees Bazmee will complete Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer action comedy, tentatively titled "Ek Sath Do Do" (1722), which will go on floors early next month. Mumbai, July 25 - The Independence Day 2023 week will see multiple Indian biggies releasing in theaters, clashing against each other. One of the most anticipated box office clashes is going to happen between the two sequels to the highly appreciated and successful movies, Sunny Deol-fronted "Gadar 2: The Katha Continues" and Akshay Kumar's "OMG 2". ## Anil Sharma's directorial "Gadar 2" is the sequel to the all-time blockbuster "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha" (2001) while "OMG 2", directed by Amit Rai, is the successor of "OMG" (2012). There is genuine excitement for both movies among the fans and the trade is also looking forward and hopeful about the same. ## Meanwhile, Sunny Deol is not at all worried about the box office numbers and is not fazed by the fact that his film will be clashing with the Akshay Kumar-led "Oh My God 2" (OMG 2) in a high-profile box office showdown. ## During a recent interview with ETimes, Deol said, "I have never felt unnerved by box-office numbers as I believe that there is so much to do. We need to believe in our stories and tell them to our audience".## The actor further said that the media shouldn't compare movies if they are coming on the same day. He recalled how "Gadar" was run down completely but emerged as a people's movie and grossed over 100 crores worldwide despite clashing with Aamir Khan's "Lagaan" which was hailed as a classic blockbuster.## "Gadar did Rs 100 crore plus, while Lagaan did much less. I don't understand why people compare – whether it's from the business or likeability point. Gadar didn't have the perception, people thought it is this masala film and is an old sort of film with old songs".## "On the other hand, people thought Lagaan was classic, etc. The so-called people who talk about films had run down Gadar completely. It went on to become a people's film, and they loved it. At award shows, I remember that they made a spoof of Gadar, but we weren't bothered by it. It has happened with some of my other films too, like Ghayal and Dil, which clashed. Nitesh Tiwari's directorial, which was originally hyped as a theatrical release, debuted directly on Amazon Prime Video on July 21. ## Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, "Bawaal" opened to mixed reviews from critics and mixed to positive responses from digital audiences. Amazon Prime Video made it available to stream in over 200 countries, making it one of the widest digital releases ever for Indian movies. ## According to Ormax Media, a media consulting firm, "Bawaal" scored 6.9 million views in its first three days, and was the 3rd most-watched Hindi title in India across OTT platforms in the week of July 17 - July 24. The 6.9 million views are estimates based only within India as Ormax doesn't track international streaming data. ## Meanwhile, as per a recent report, "Bawaal" was sold to Amazon Prime Video for 120 crores while the budget of the film is believed to be 80 crores. Mumbai, July 23 - Filmmaker Karan Johar's much-awaited romantic family drama film "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani" is getting ready to release this Friday, July 28. The movie stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the leading roles alongside Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi in key roles. ## According to Bollywood Hungama, RRKPK has been made in a budget of 160 crores while the additional cost is around 18 crores, making it 178 crores budgeted movie. Meanwhile, the makers have already recovered 90% through the non-theatrical rights so it will easily turn out to be a big profitable venture. ## It is said that the makers have sold the post-theatrical streaming rights to Amazon Prime Video for a whopping 80 crores while satellite rights sold to Colors for 50 crores, and another Rs. 30 crores coming from the sale of its music rights to Saregama. The makers have recovered a total of 160 crores from non-theatrical rights. ## RRKPK is expected to perform well at the box office as well given the huge scale and a rock-solid star cast with a blockbuster director.
