Box Office: Ajay Devgn's 'Maidaan' Struggles To Hit 50 Crore Net Collection

Mumbai, May 8 - It has been a struggling ride for Bollywood star Ajay Devgn's sports biopic Maidaan at the box office. Despite the advantage of the Eid holidays, the movie opened to a poor collection and never bounced back despite the open run. ## Directed by Amit Sharma, Maidaan has topped the 50 crore net mark on its 29th day which is no longer a milestone. Ideally, the current total of Maidaan should have been its opening weekend collection given the Eid holidays but that is a gone case. ## Eid has always been a lucrative festival for Bollywood regarding the box office as Salman Khan films have historically done well on this particular festival, however, 2024 proved different as both big releases, Maidaan and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan bombed without even putting up a fight. ## With the bombing of Maidaan and BMCM along with other films also not doing well, the month of April has been a nightmare for theatres with not much return. Disney's 'Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' Box Office Projection Revealed

Los Angeles, May 8 - The Apes are coming to rule the box office again as Disney's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes looking at one of the best starts in the franchise. ## Directed by Wes Ball, the fourth instalment in the Planet of the Apes reboot the franchise and the tenth film overall is tracking to earn $50 million to $50 million in the domestic (North America) opening weekend, according to Variety.## If the movie opens in the projected lines, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes could aim at the third or possibly second biggest opening in the Rebooted franchise. 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes notched a series-best $72 million opening, followed by 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes opened to $56.2 million and 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes opened to $54.8 million. ## Apart from the domestic, the upcoming movie is tracking to earn $80 million to $90 million at the international box office, for a $130 million to $140 million worldwide debut. The movie has been made on a budget of $160 million. ## The previous three films in the franchise have collectively grossed around $1680 million at the worldwide box office, including Dawn of the Planet of the Apes being the biggest grosser of them with $710 million. Mumbai, May 8 - Netflix may have to wait a bit longer to score a breakout global success from India as its ambitious period drama series Heeramandi - The Diamond Bazaar, created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, failed to make an impact in its opening weekend. ## Made on a budget of over 200 crores, Heeramandi was supposed to be the next big thing for Netflix but it could only manage to score 4.5 million worldwide views and 33 million viewing hours over the 5-day opening weekend. It is among the poorest viewership for Netflix India for the original shows. ## Though the series debuted at number 2 worldwide in the non-English category on Netflix, the critical and audience reception is below average for the show which might make it difficult for it to rebound in the coming weeks.## Despite Netflix's continued efforts to woo Indian audiences, there is not a single show or movie in the streamer's top 10 list, and now Heeramandi is also falling flat. It is already being termed as a big-budget disaster for the OTT giant. ## The series is about the lives of tawaifs in the red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore during the Indian independence movement against the British Raj. Hyderabad, May 7 - Pan India superstar Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran's Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire was one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2023 with over 600 crores at the worldwide box office.## Directed by Prashanth Neel, the ending of Salaar: Ceasfire confirmed its sequel which was officially titled Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam. As the sequel is gearing up to kick-start production by May 2024 end, Prithviraj Sukumaran has provided a massive hint about the same. ## In a recent X/Twitter interaction, the Malayalam star stated that Salaar 2 would have a crossover with another universe. Los Angeles, May 7 - Disney is set to reduce the number of Marvel movies to two and shows to three per year to avoid the overdose of entertainment. Disney CEO Bob Iger said (via Variety) that the studio is going to reduce MCU output per year to focus on quality. ## "We're slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three. And we're working hard on what that path is", the Disney CEO said during the company's quarterly earnings call Tuesday.## Iger said that the studio is extremely excited about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, be it movies or shows. After having a poor last year with a couple of big flops (a rarity for Marvel) in the form of Ant-Man 3 and The Marvels, the studio is gearing up for the exciting next few years. ## As of now, Marvel Studios has 4 films slated for 2025 release - "Captain America: Brave New World", "Thunderbolts", "The Fantastic Four", and "Blade", and four more Marvel movies slated for 2026, including the fifth "Avengers” movie. ## In 2024, Marvel is releasing just "Deadpool and Wolverine", which is probably the most hyped MCU title in recent times. Chennai, May 6 - Aranmanai 4 scored a very good opening weekend at the domestic box office with superb occupancy across Tamil Nadu state which saw it crossing the lifetime domestic total of Lal Salaam in which superstar Rajinikanth played the extended role. ## Directed by Sundar C, the horror comedy minted approximately 22 crores gross in India, including 20 crores in Tamil and 2 crores in Telugu in the first three-day weekend. Lal Salaam had grossed approximately 21 crores in its entire run. In Tamil Nadu, the movie has minted approximately 18.25 crores gross.## The opening weekend of 22 crores of Aranmanai 4 is the second biggest for a Tamil movie domestically, behind only Dhanush's Captain Miller which grossed approximately 27.60 crores in the first 3 days. Kochi, May 6 - Fahadh Faasil's action comedy film Aavesham is nearing becoming the 4th Malayalam movie of all-time and second of 2024 to top 100 crores gross collection at the domestic box office after crossing 90 crores gross mark in its 4th weekend. ## The Jithu Madhavan's directorial venture grossed an estimated 6.35 crores in its 4th weekend which pushed its total domestic collection to around 92.50+ crores gross in 25 days. The movie dropped around 50% from 3rd weekend due to the new release but is expected to gain strength again as the week progresses. ## Aavesham is expected to enter the 100 crores gross club during the 5th weekend in India which will make it only the 4th Mollywood title after Pulimurugan, 2018, and Manjummel Boys to achieve the feat. Except for Pulimurugan, the other 100 crores grosser have been released in the last 12 months which is already termed as a golden period for the industry. ## At the worldwide box office, Aavesham is nearing the 150 crores mark and it will reach the milestone in the next couple of days. Mumbai, May 6 - Kunal Khemu's directorial debut Madgaon Express still has something left in it to bring laughter at the box office as the comedy entertainer is kind of having a rebound at the low level domestically.## Produced by Excel Entertainment, Madgaon Express, which once looked like would finish under 25 crores net, is now looking at 35+ crores and might get close to the 40 crores mark. Chennai, May 5 - Horror-comedy Aranmanai 4 is set to change the fortune of the Tamil film industry which has had an underwhelming year so far at the box office. The movie took the second-biggest opening for a Tamil title this year and has strengthened its position with the big jump on the second day. ## Directed by Sundar C, Aranmanai 4 witnessed a jump of around 43% on its second day to score approximately 7.65 crores gross collection, pushing total collection to around 13 crores in two days at the domestic box office. In Tamil Nadu, the movie has minted around 10.25 crores gross. ## The Tamil version of the film has alone minted approximately 11.75 crores while the Telugu version has grossed 1.25 crores gross.
