ZEE5 Reveals Five Most Liked Films of 2023

Mumbai, July 20 - One of the rising streaming platforms in India, ZEE5 has had some success this year so far with its original movies and web series. The streamer released some critically acclaimed films such as "Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai" and "Lost", and web shows like "Taj: Divided By Blood", among others.## One of the biggest films ZEE5 has released so far is SS Rajamouli's "RRR" which was streamed last year post its theatrical release. Meanwhile, the streamer has released the five most-liked films of the first half of 2023 on ZEE5. Check out the list - ## 1. Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai## Directed by Apoorv Singh Karki, "Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai" has not only been the most-liked ZEE5 movie of the year, but it also emerged as one of the most-watched films across OTT platforms. The legal drama, starring Manoj Bajpayee is inspired by the true events of a five-year-long standalone fight of a regular session court lawyer Adv. PC Solanki (Manoj Bajpayee) who stands for the truth, and his struggle to bring justice to the girl(s) who were wronged by an influential godman Asaram Bapu.## 2. Lost## Actress Yami Gautam has been receiving appreciation for picking quality content and "Lost" proved another solid film in her career. The Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury-directed movie is inspired by true events. It charts the story of a young woman crime reporter who is working on a story of the sudden disappearance of a young theatre activist. Now, according to Pinkvilla, the much-awaited movie won't be starting anytime soon and it will go on floors only after Salman Khan completes "Tiger vs Pathaan" which will commence filming early next year. ## "Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya are definitely doing a film together. but it will kick off next year. Sooraj will invest all his energies in the script once his son, Avnish’s debut, Dono, hits the big screen", the report says.## "Prem Ki Shaadi" is an ambitious project which revolves around a nuclear family. Sooraj Barjatya has reportedly locked the core plot of the film but he will start working on the screenplay only after his son Avnish's directorial debut movie "Dono" hits big screens later this year.## The filmmaker will reportedly take 4-5 months to complete the screenplay and then another 4 months of pre-productions. Los Angeles, July 20 - Margot Robbie-led fantasy comedy film "Barbie" is about to begin its party at the box office. The Great Gerwig's directorial has been one of the hotly anticipated Hollywood movies and it is set to win the opening weekend at the domestic (North America) box office. ## "Barbie" is having insane pre-sales domestically, as according to Deadline, the film has sold the highest number of tickets since James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water" hit theaters back in mid-December of last year.## While the advance booking numbers are not revealed, it is believed to be historical, this too, when the movie will directly indulging a clash with Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" which is raising eyebrows in the trade as well as the studio.## According to the Box Office Company (via Deadline), Barbie is outrunning every other movie so far this year. It is behind only "Avatar: The Way of Water" which took the opening of $134 million. Gunasekhar had earlier announced the Hiranyakashyap project. The movie is reportedly titled "Khel Khel Mein" and has Tapsee Pannu and Vaani Kapoor as the female leads. ## According to Pinkvilla, "Khel Khel Mein" is the official Hindi adaptation of a blockbuster Italian movie "Perfect Strangers" (2016). It was a critically as well as commercially successful movie, grossing over $32 million, and has already been remade in more than 20 countries. ## "Mudassar Aziz has been eager to make an Indian version of it for a long time and has adapted the screenplay in a desi style to suit the sensibilities of Indian audiences", the report says, adding that the shoot will commence in October this year and it will be shot in a two-month straight schedule in the UK. ## The movie was supposed to go on floors early this year but the production got delayed due to Akshay's other commitments. Produced by Ashwin Varde and Bhushan Kumar, the pre-production of the movie is happening at a brisk pace to start shooting on schedule. ## Akshay Kumar, meanwhile, is currently gearing up for the release of his much-awaited "OMG 2" which is scheduled for August 11 release. Hyderabad, July 19 - Baabubali star Rana Daggubati is all set to produce a magnum opus movie on Hiranyakashyap, an asura king of the daityas in the Puranic scriptures of Hinduism. The actor-filmmaker will unveil multiple projects under his Spirit Media company at San Diego Comic-Con event. ## According to Variety, the movie project "Hiranyakashyap" is being developed by Spirit Media and is set to be directed by Trivikram. The picture is inspired by Amar Chitra Katha's comics of the mythological figure, the powerful demon Hiranyakashyap, and his plan to achieve vengeance by destroying Lord Indira's kingdom.## Some of the details about the "Hiranyakashyap" movie are expected to be revealed at the Comic-Con. Rana Daggubati will play the titular role while Trivikram is writing the script and will also be directing it.## Meanwhile, Rana's Spirit Media has teamed up with streamer SonyLIV on the historical epic action-drama "Lords of the Deccan". 'Oppenheimer' and 'Barbie' Advance Booking Status and Opening Day Box Office Expectations

Mumbai, July 19 - Hollywood films have done well at the Indian box office this year and the momentum continued with Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. It was released on July 12 and is doing very good business, grossing over 85 crores so far. ## The month of July is particularly going to be a major period for Hollywood titles as next in the month are Christopher Nolan's atom bomb movie Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig's fantasy comedy film Barbie. Scheduled to release on July 21, both Oppenheimer and Barbie are set to spring a big surprise at the Indian box office. ## Oppenheimer is particularly having an excellent response in the advanced sales in India as far as the national multiplex chains are concerned. It has sold approx. 200K tickets in three national chains (PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis) for the opening day which is among the top advances post the covid-19 pandemic. ## The IMAX format of the movie is almost witnessing a near-sold-out opening day while the English 2D format is also having a very good response. With these sorts of pre-sales, the opening of 20 crores would have been a sure shot given but the movie is expected to have low spot booking. However, it will still be eyeing a 15-17 crores start which will be termed very good. ## Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Pictures' Barbie starring Margot Robbie in the title role and Ryan Gosling as Ken, also has good pre-booking despite the competition as it has sold approx. 80K tickets for the opening day in three national chains. The advance sales of the film got momentum over the last 48 hours. ## Barbie is expected to score around 6-7 crores which will be a good opening. Had it been a solo Hollywood release, an opening of 10+ crores net was given with these sorts of advances, but due to the competition, the Hollywood audiences will be divided with most of them likely to prefer Oppenheimer. Also, there will be Mission Impossible 7 which is also likely to retain a decent amount of screens. ## The combined opening of both films should be around 20-23 crores net in India and if they receive positive talks, the opening weekend could well be around 75-90 crores net. Meanwhile, in the domestic (North America), Barbenheimer is projected to score $150+ million opening weekend ($110+ M for Barbie, and $50 M for Oppenheimer).## Stay tuned...

Tokyo, July 19 - Telugu superstar Ram Charan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu's period action drama film "Rangasthalam" was released in Japan on July 14 and did decent business in the opening weekend on the limited screens. ## Directed by Sukumar, the all-time blockbuster movie reportedly grossed ¥10.1 million or approx. 60 lacs on its 3-day opening weekend with approx. 7200 admissions. The opening weekend collection of the movie failed to beat the opening day numbers of Ram Charan and Jr. NTR's "RRR" which grossed ¥18 million in October last year.## "Rangasthalam" was released around 70 screens in Japan and grossed 2.5 million yen on its opening day. It is expected to have a good run as the word of mouth among the Japanese audiences is super positive.## Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, "Rangasthalam" was an industry hit during its release in 2018 in Telugu. It grossed over 200 crores at the worldwide box office and became the highest-grossing film in Ram Charan as well as Samantha's career. ## Meanwhile, the all-time blockbuster period action drama Kannada movies, "KGF 1" and "KGF 2", starring superstar Yash were also released in Japan on July 14 and they combined grossed ¥11 million or 65 lacs in the opening weekend with approx. 7840 admissions.## The original KGF movie grossed ¥5.8 million (35 lacs) with 4120 admissions while its sequel earned ¥5.2 million (30 lacs) with 3720 admissions. The word of mouth is decent for both the films and it will be interesting to see how they perform going forward.## Directed by Prashanth Neel, the two KGF films grossed approx. 1450 crores at the worldwide box office in their first runs.
