Warner Bros. Sets New 'Lord of the Rings' Movies

Los Angeles, February 24 - Warner Bros. Pictures is going back to Middle-Earth to make multiple more Lord of the Rings films. ## According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has brokered a multiyear deal with rights holders Embracer Group AB which allows the studio to develop more films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings books and The Hobbit. ## Embracer Group, the Swedish gaming company, acquired the rights to produce LOTR films, games, merchandise, theme park attractions, and live productions when it purchased rights holder Middle-earth Enterprises last year from The Saul Zaentz Company. ## LOTR is one of the most successful film franchises in Hollywood. There have been a total of 3 films in the LOTR franchise, directed by Peter Jackson, with a combined gross collection of $2.9 billion. Jackson's follow-up trilogy based on Tolkien's "The Hobbit" which acts as a prequel to his The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, matched those grosses. ## Warner Bros. is yet to attach filmmakers to helm the upcoming LOTR films. Meanwhile, LOTR is not the only franchise that Warner Bros. is reviving. CEO David Zaslav previously said that he would like to make a deal with author J.K. Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi's 'Selfiee' Opening Day Box Office Expectations

Mumbai, February 23 - After the dream start of the year with Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, Bollywood gets a reality check of the changing box office dynamics in the current scenario. Kartik Aaryan's Shehzada failed to utilize the momentum created by Pathaan as Bollywood's search for the next hit begins. ## The industry is now gearing up for the next release with superior star power in the form of Selfiee. The Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi-fronted flick is not the next Pathaan but the makers will be hoping for a better outcome than Shehzada which was carrying decent expectations. ## The full-fledged advance booking for this Raj Mehta's directorial was opened just 24 hours before the release. While overall pre-sales of Selfiee are low, the pace of it is better than Shehzada which was not going anywhere with its pre-sales numbers. ## Selfiee is not a frontloaded box office flick, it is expected to take in a lower opening than Shehzada which took the start of 6 crores net. Going by the advance booking and considering other aspects, Selfiee is expected to open around 4-5 crores net. It has sold approx. 20K tickets so far for the opening day, which can be termed low.## Produced by Prithviraj Productions, Dharma Productions, and Cape Of Good Films, Selfiee is expected to release on over 3000 screens nationwide. This size of the release is enough for a movie to take a good opening, but again there is a lack of excitement among the moviegoers which makes Selfiee a decent starter. Akshay Kumar, who has been at the forefront of the franchise, had announced that he wouldn't be part of the movie due to script issues. However, this made his and Hera Pheri franchise fans disappointed as it was hard to imagine Hera Pheri without Raju. ## Keeping the sentiments of the fans in mind, producer Firoz Nadiadwala started talks again with Khiladi Kumar and even made some changes to the scripts. Mumbai, February 20 - Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan makes his debut in the 1000 crores club at the worldwide box office, thanks to the historic blockbuster Pathaan. ## The spy action thriller, directed by Siddharth Anand, has been running riot since its release on January 25 this year. Keeping domestic box office aside, Pathaan's overseas box office performance is eye-popping with approx. $46 million (380 crores gross). ## When combined with the Rs. 620 crores that the film has earned at the domestic box office, Pathaan's worldwide total has now crossed 1000 crores in just 27 days. ## The Yash Raj Films production is the first Bollywood movie to breach the 1000 crores mark without China and with China, overall, it is the second. Previously, Aamir Khan's Dangal has scored over 21 crores worldwide, including approx. 1300 crores from China alone.## Pathaan is also only the 5th Indian movie to reach the historic figure. Mumbai, February 20 - The blockbuster Tamil romantic-comedy film Love Today is set to be remade in the Hindi languages. Phantom Studios in association with its original producers AGS Entertainment will be producing the Bollywood remake. ## Directed by Pradeep Ranganathan who also made his acting debut with this film, Love Today followed two young lovers who are forced to exchange their phones for a day and the consequences of that. Released in November last year, the movie was a big blockbuster and grossed over 85 crores worldwide. ## Archana Kalpathi, creative producer, AGS Entertainment, said, "With its reputation of always striving to produce good cinema, joining hands with Phantom Studios was a no-brainer and we look forward to working with them. Box Office: Dhanush's Vaathi/Sir Has An Excellent Opening Weekend Worldwide

Chennai, February 20 - Tamil star Dhanush is back in the form with his latest bilingual blockbuster film Vaathi/Sir. Directed by Venkry Atluri, the action drama film has completed its opening weekend with an excellent box office collection worldwide. ## The movie was released on February 17 and got positive reviews from critics and audiences. It opened to fantastic 11.4 crores gross, before jumping on Saturday for 13.7 crores gross while Sunday witnessed another jump for 14.20 crores gross in Tamil and Telugu languages. ## The domestic opening weekend of Vaathi/Sir saw 39.30 crores in both versions, becoming Dhanush's biggest opening weekend collection film. While the Tamil version was expected to perform well, the Telugu version surprised with the excellent collection.## In Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), SIR scored 16.40 crores gross in the first three days which is bigger than most of the recent Telugu films' lifetime collections. In Tamilnadu, Vaathi grossed 17.65 crores in the opening weekend. In Telugu states, the movie has already achieved the break-even target and heading toward a big blockbuster. ## Overseas, Vaathi/SIR racks in approx. 11 crores for worldwide opening weekend to over 50 crores gross, which is the highest for Dhanush. Los Angeles, February 20 - James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water has officially raced past his own Titanic to become the third highest-grossing film ever at the global box office. ## The sci-fi sequel, released in December last year, has grossed $2.243 billion through 10th Sunday. Titanic, which had grossed $2.194 billion worldwide before a global 3D rerelease earlier this month, now stands at $2.242 billion globally as 4th highest-grossing title ever.## Avatar 2 has raked in $657 million at the domestic (North America) box office, becoming the 9th biggest movie of all time there. Overseas, it has scored $1.59 billion over 52 markets.
