The actor had multiple releases in 2022, both in theaters and on digital platforms, and succeeded in both of them. ## The actor made his digital debut with the Disney Plus Hotstar series, titled Rudra: The Edge of Darkness and this turned out the most successful Hindi web show of 2022. Early Estimates: Varisu And Thunivu Hold Strong On The Second Day

Chennai, January 12 - The two powerful forces of Tamil cinema, Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar collectively scored the day ever at the Tamil Nadu box office when their respective films, Varisu and Thunivu grossed 41+ crores on the opening day. ## The Ajith-starrer won the opening-day battle in the home state but it was "Varisu" that took the honors at the domestic box office a little over 31 crores against 28+ crores of "Thunivu". The word of mouth for both films is on the positive side and that helped both hold strong on the second day. ## As per the early estimates, "Varisu" grossed an estimated 18-20 crores on the second day, dropping around 40% which is lesser than the usual drop for a Tamil film. "Thunivu", on the other hand, has a drop in the similar range for an estimated 17-19 crores gross. ## The two days total domestic collection for "Varisu" is around 50 crores while "Thunivu" has minted approx. 45 crores gross (final second-day numbers may vary).## Both, "Varisu" and "Thunivu" are getting benefitted because of the Pongal holidays and this is expected to continue during throughout the opening weekend. The actor had multiple releases last year but none of them could become hits at the box office as all his films finished below the 100 crores mark domestically. ## Apart from the theatrical releases, Akshay also had a digital release in the form of the crime thriller Cuttputli and it has good success. A remake of the 2018 Tamil film "Ratsasan", "Cuttputli" is directed by Ranjit M. Tewari and produced by Pooja Entertainment. ## "Cuttputli" was the most-watched original Hindi film on Digital Platforms, according to Ormax Media. It was released on Disney Plus Hotstar on September 2 and scored 26.9 million views. Yami Gautam's "A Thursday" was the second most-watched film with 25.5 million views. It was also released on Disney+Hotstar. ## Disney Plus Hotstar was the biggest gainer from the Hindi film industry with 3 of its original movies crossing 24 million views each as "Govinda Naam Mera" scored 24.4 million views, per Ormax. Disney+ Hotstar (7 films), Prime Video & Netflix (4 films each) share the top 15 spots between them. ## The viewership data by Ormax Media has been collected through a methodology that consists of the number of people who watched the show (at least one full episode) or film (at least 30 mins). The movie grossed over 260 crores worldwide and was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2022. ## Anees Bazmee directed this successful sequel, produced by Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetani, and now, the makers are working on its 3rd installment for the past few months. T-Series-head Bhushan Kumar, in an interview with Pinkvilla, provides a big update on BB3. ## "We are definitely making Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 with Kartik Aaryan", the producer confirmed the development.## "We are right in the process of figuring out the gap that we need between part 2 and part 3. All the stakeholders are clear – the idea of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 needs to be big and unique".## Explaining his thought process further, Bhushan Kumar added, "Bhool Bhulaiyaa is an established franchise now, and there will be anticipation around it. Early Estimates: Varisu And Thunivu Combined Scores Over 50+ Crores Opening Day

Chennai, January 11 - The Pongal 2023 festival weekend kicks off on a blockbuster note, thanks to the two most anticipated Tamil tentpoles Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu and Ajith Kumar's Thunivu.## Telugu director Vamshi Paidipally directed "Varisu" while H. Vinoth helmed "Thunivu". Since both movies came on the same day, it was certain that no new box office record would be created but couldn't stop both films to bring combined joy to movie theaters and the makers. ## As per the early estimates, the combined opening day box office collection for "Varisu" and "Thunivu" is over 50 crores gross domestically. Thalapathy Vijay-starrer, as expected, is the biggest movie of the day but only just as Ajith-fronted comes really close to it. ## "Varisu" grossed an estimated 26-28 crores on the first day, and this includes an estimated 16-18 crores gross in the home state Tamil Nadu. On the other hand, "Thunivu" grossed an estimated 25-27 crores all of India, including 17-19 crores in Tamil Nadu. ## Outside Tamil Nadu, "Varisu" leads over "Thunivu", as per the estimates. In Karnataka, the former grossed an estimated 5 crores while later scoring around 3.50 crores gross. "Varisu" has a very good opening in Kerala, grossing approx. 3.50 crores, on the other hand, "Thunivu" grossed approx. 1.50 crores in the state. It has so far grossed approx. 342 crores worldwide in 54 days, surpassing "The Kashmir Files'" 341 crores gross. At the domestic box office, "Drishyam 2" has grossed a little over approx. 282 crores while overseas it minted approx. 59.50 crores. ## "Drishyam 2" is now only behind Ayan Mukerji's "Brahmastra Part One: Shiva" which made over 430 crores worldwide.
