Box Office: Blockbuster Drishyam 2 Sets Eyes On 200 Crores Net Club

Mumbai, November 26 - Ajay Devgn-fronted suspense thriller Drishyam 2 is having a dream run at the box office during these tough times. The Bollywood industry was in dire need of a movie that performs like pre-pandemic films and "Drishyam 2" is exactly doing that where the biz is complementing the word of mouth. ## Directed by Abhishek Pathak, "Drishyam 2" was released on November 18 and took a very good opening of 15.37 crores net, before clocking a fantastic opening weekend of over 64 crores. The sequel carried the momentum on weekdays and held strongly to cross 100 crores net in falt one week. ## "Drishyam 2" has competition in the second week in the form of Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon's "Bhediya" but still, is not holding back and is looking to clock around 40 crores in the second weekend. Even though there is Ayushmann Khurrana's "An Action Hero" next week, "Drishyam 2" should carry its blockbuster momentum without much trouble. ## As things stand now, "Drishyam 2" looks a sure-shot 200 crores net earner in its lifetime run. It will enjoy a good run until "Avatar: The Way of Water" arrives on December 16 and that should be more than enough for it to cross the 200 crores mark. It will be only the third Bollywood movie post the covid-19 pandemic to reach 200 crores net after "The Kashmir Files" and "Brahmastra". ## Meanwhile, the movie has crossed 160 crores gross at the worldwide box office in 8 days and will reach the 200 crores mark by the end of the second weekend, making it the 5th movie to do so post the pandemic.## Stay tuned...

Avatar: The Way of Water Tracking For $170 Million Opening In North America

Los Angeles, November 26 - The long-awaited sequel to James Cameron's "Avatar" - Avatar: The Way of Water is set for more than the double opening of the first film at the domestic (North America) box office. ## According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sci-fi epic is tracking at least $150 million - $170 million in the opening weekend in North America. These are conservative estimates and may go higher. The first "Avatar" movie, released in 2009, opened to $77 million and later enjoyed extraordinary legs to project a $785 million lifetime total (re-release included).## One of the reasons for the conservative opening weekend projections of "Avatar: The Way of Water" is that it is 30 minutes longer than the first movie with a runtime of 3 hours and 10 minutes, meaning the sequel will have fewer showtimes per day.## "Avatar 2" is not the only Hollywood movie with longer runtime. The second and third highest-grossing movies of all time, "Avengers: Endgame" ($2.79 billion) and Cameron's "Titanic" ($2.2 billion) are more than 3 hours long. As reported earlier, "Avatar 2" is eyeing a minimum $2 billion worldwide gross collection in its lifetime run. ## Produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, and distributed by Disney, "Avatar 2" stars Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, and Stephen Lang, among others in key roles. The movie is scheduled to release on December 16 in over 100 languages worldwide in multiple formats.## Stay tuned...

Prabhas, Kriti Sanon's Magnum Opus 'Adipurush' To Be Delayed To 2024?

Mumbai, November 26 - A lot has changed since the release of the teaser of Prabhas-fronted Adipurush and it looks like there is a lot yet to change. The teaser, which was launched in early October, got mixed to negative responses which forced the makers to take a step back and re-work the quality of the movie. ## It was recently revealed that the movie would not able to meet its original release date of January 12, 2023, and would be delayed, which the makers officially confirmed and announced June 16, 2023, release. However, as per the latest reports, "Adipurush" will be further delayed as the makers are re-working on the entire VFX shots. ## It is said that the budget of "Adipurush" will be increased by approx. 100 crores and the release might get delayed to Sankranthi 2024. It was supposed to be Prabhas' next release, but now, it seems his action thriller "Salaar" with director Prashanth Neel will be hitting theaters first. ## "Salaar", produced by Hombale Films, was announced for September 28, 2023, release and it is very much on track to meet the date without any issues. There is, however, not yet confirmed whether "Adipurush" would actually be delayed or not as there are no official words from people associated with this magnum opus. ## Prabhas, meanwhile, has his hands full of blockbuster titles. He has a film with director Maruthi which has already started production, and then will team up with Sandeep Vanga Reddy for "Spirit". He is also in talks with Siddharth Anand for an action thriller film and is likely to announce it after Anand completes his "Fighter" with Hrithik Roshan.## Stay tuned...

'Avatar: The Way of Water' Needs Minimum $2 Billion Worldwide Gross Collection For Break-Even

Los Angeles, November 23 - James Cameron's sci-fi epic Avatar: The Way of Water is getting hot as the release date gets closer. The sequel to Cameron's 2009 movie, "Avatar 2" is a rare film that is a sure shot to cross $1 billion gross at the worldwide box office but it will need more than just $1 billion. ## "Avatar: The Way of Water" is one of the most expensive films or maybe the most expensive movie ever made. The early reports have claimed the production budget of the movie alone was in the $250 million range, however, according to Cameron, the movie is so expensive that it will need to become the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history for just a break-even target.## There have been only five films in history to reach $2 billion at the worldwide box office. The top three movies are Cameron's original "Avatar" with $2.9 billion, followed by "Avengers: Endgame" with $2.7 billion, and Cameron's "Titanic" with $2.1 billion at number 2 and 3, respectively.## That means, according to Cameron, that if "Avatar: The Way of Water" wants to break even, it'll need to overtake either "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ($2.07 billion) or "Avengers: Infinity War" ($2.05 billion) in the fourth or fifth slots, respectively. In other words, the sequel will need a minimum of $2 billion worldwide to turn into a profitable film. ## "Avatar: The Way of Water" opens in theaters on December 16 and in India, it will release in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages in multiple formats.## Stay tuned...

Avatar: The Way of Water Sets Release Date In China

Beijing, November 23 - James Cameron's mega movie Avatar: The Way of Water has been cleared to release in China, according to The Wall Street Journal. In what could be a blockbuster move from Disney, the movie will be hitting Chinese theaters on December 16, the same day it is slated to be released globally. ## China has been tough for Disney as the studio failed to get clearance to release its blockbuster movies in China from the censor board. The studio and Chinese movie theaters had been closely watching for a decision from Chinese censors on the movie, the sequel to Cameron's 2009 sci-fi epic. ## China carries a huge box office potential for blockbuster titles and this could hugely benefit Disney to generate big millions with "Avatar 2". The first "Avatar" movie grossed over $260 million in China and was the second-biggest market after North America.## As said earlier, the last seven superhero films produced by Marvel Studios, Disney's most-profitable film studio over the past decade, haven't received release dates in the crucial China market, denting the global box-office gross.## Meanwhile, James Cameron has already set huge standards for "Avatar 2" at the box office. The budget of the film is not known yet, but according to Cameron, "Avatar 2" will need to become the fourth or fifth highest-grossing movie of all time or at least $2 billion to clear the break-even target. The future of Avatar movie also depends on how the sequel performs.## Stay tuned...
