Second Part of Mohanlal-Starrer Malayalam Superhit Film 'Lucifer' Gets A Title

Kochi, August 18 - Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is returning for the second part of his blockbuster film Lucifer. Prithviraj Sukumaran, who marked his directorial debut with this film, will be directing the sequel as well apart from starring in it. ## The makers of the film, on Wednesday officially announced that they had begun work on "Lucifer 2", which has been titled Empuraan. The pre-production work will begin soon and the movie is expected to go on floors by the end of this year.## Producer Antony Perumbavoor took to Twitter to announce the film with the official title, "The wait is over! "We are starting the actual process of making the film from today. Hopefully, we will keep you updated periodically on how things are progressing".## "Empuraan" is the second film in the 3-part "Lucifer" film series. The first film was released in 2019 and went on to become the second highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time. Hyderabad, August 17 - Filmmaker Puri Jagannadh is gearing up for the release of his much-awaited sports action drama film Liger, starring Vijay Deverakonda in the title role. The movie is produced by Puri Jagannadh and Charmy Kaur with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and is scheduled to release on August 25 in multiple languages. ## Meanwhile, even before the release of their maiden collaboration, the trio of Puri, Charmy, and Vijay Deverakonda have started shooting for the second film, JGM: Jana Gana Mana. Pooja Hegde plays the female lead opposite Vijay in the film which is Puri Jagannadh's dream story. ## The director revealed in a recent interview with Pinkvilla that "JGM" is his dream film which he wrote 10 years back. He revealed that superstar Mahesh Babu was his first choice for JGM and they even started preparing for the same. However, despite Babu's keen interest in the story, things didn't materialize then and it was put on hold for a long time before it got revived with VD. ## "While doing Liger, Vijay asked me about JGM and I narrated it to him. He got excited by the idea. It’s a very big film and we have got international technicians on board. Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's Historic Novel Anandamath Gets Film Adaptation, Titled '1770'

Hyderabad, August 17 - The historic Bengali novel, Anandamath by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay is getting a film adaptation soon. Titled 1770, the pan-India film will be directed by SS Rajamouli protégé Ashwin Gangaraju and it is being created by author-filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee. ## Ashwin Gangaraju has assisted maverick filmmaker SS Rajamouli in "Eega" and "Baahubali" (both series). He made his debut as a director with the critically acclaimed film "Aakashvani" in 2021. Legendary V Vijayendra Prasad is writing the story and screenplay of "1770". ## "This subject was a huge challenge for me, but with legendary V Vijayendra Prasad sir writing the adapted story and screenplay, I think what we have on paper is a blockbuster cinematic experience", affirms director Ashwin Gangaraju.## "As a filmmaker, I'm more drawn towards the stories which have periodic setups, bigger emotions, scope for larger than life action, etc and this is something that sits in perfectly for me. Initially, I was a little skeptical but I spoke to Ram Kamal Mukherjee and after listening to his vision I gained confidence", he added. ## The motion poster for "1770" has been released to mark 150 years of Vande Mataram, the song that appeared first in Bankim Chandra's novel Anandamath, which almost shook the roots of the British Empire. "I feel that Vande Mataram was a magical word. It was a mantra that was given by Maharishi Bankim Chandra for a nation to unite against tyranny and injustice. In 1770, we dealt with the story of unknown warriors who ignited the fire of the freedom movement", V Vijayendra Prasad said. ## The movie will be produced by Shhailendra Kkumar, Sujayy Kuttiy, Krishna Kumar B, and Suraj Sharma and they feel that it is a right in India to make larger-than-life cinema. The makers will lock the main lead before Dassera, and by Diwali, they will announce the cast of the film. Chennai, August 17 - Filmmaker Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 1 is getting ready for the worldwide release on September 30.## The epic period action drama film will be released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages and it will become the first ever Tamil film to release in IMAX format also. The production house of the film, Lyca Productions has set a partnership with IMAX Corporation to bring this highly-anticipated film to IMAX screens in India and worldwide on September 30. ## Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's classic Tamil-language novel, "PS1" boasts a powerhouse cast including Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Jayachitra, Rahman, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin Kakumanu, Lal, Parthiban and Riyaz Khan.## The movie, set in the 10th century, revolves around the early life of Chola Prince Arunmozhi Varman who was latterly known as the great Chola emperor Raja Raja Chola and was the most powerful king in South India at the time. With the back up of mixed to positive reviews, Darlings lended at number 2 as the most-watched non-English film worldiwde in the week of August 8 - August 14. ## The movie, in its first full week, attracted 13.96 million viewing hours, pushing total viewing hours to 24.17 million views in 10 days. Mumbai, August 16 - Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan-fronted Laal Singh Chaddha has been underwhelming so far at the box office, and reports have claimed that the producers will bear heavy losses for the same. Meanwhile, Viacom 18 Studios has denied reports about distributors demanding compensation for the dismal performance of the film. ## The producers have claimed that "Laal Singh Chaddha" has no external distributors as the studio itself is distributing the film. "There are no external distributors. It's being distributed by Viacom18 Studios, and no money is lost in the first place. The film is still running in theaters both in India & internationally. This is baseless speculation", said Ajit Andhare, CEO of Viacom 18 Studios.## It is to be noted that Aamir Khan doesn't charge an upfront fee and normally relies on backend revenue. The budget of the film is not as much as reported in the media and according to the TOI, Laal Singh Chaddha will probably break even, once ancillary revenue is taken into account. ## An exhibitor from North India said, "Most studios don't sell their territories, it is always distributed directly. Even if we try asking for the rights, it is too expensive for us. And the reports of distributors asking for money in the case of Laal Singh Chaddha is baseless as the producers are only distributors of the film".## "Laal Singh Chaddha" is the official remake of Hollywood's hit Forrest Gump. Despite performing underwhelmingly so far, LSC has scored approx. 100 crores at the worldwide box office in 5 days.
