Box Office: Doctor Strange 2 Becomes Biggest Grosser of 2022 Worldwide

Mumbai, May 23 - Marvel Studios has once again claimed the top position at the box office as "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness" has become the highest-grossing movie of 2022 at the worldwide box office. ## The superhero movie, directed by Sam Raimi, has crossed the $800 million global mark, which includes $342.1 million from domestic (North America) and $461.1 million from the international box office, for a total $803.2 million through 3rd weekend. The numbers become even more strong knowing the fact that the movie hasn't been released in China and Russia, two of the biggest movie markets. ## Among 28 Marvel Cinematic Universe films (and excluding China and Russia), "Doctor Strange 2" lands at No. 11 so far on a global basis. It is currently the only film of 2022 to top $800 million, and the second-highest-grossing Hollywood title during the covid-19 pandemic, after "Spider-Man: No Way Home" ($1.89 billion). Warner Bros' "The Batman" is the second-biggest movie of 2022 worldwide with $768 million. ## Among the top international markets, Korea remains the top contributor with $45.9M, followed by the UK ($43.8M), Mexico ($35.7M), Brazil ($29.2M), and Australia ($23M). Akshay Kumar Opens Up On 'Bachchhan Paandey' Failure And Doing Remakes of South Indian Movies

Mumbai, May 22 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has opened up on the failure of his recent movie, "Bachchhan Paandey". The failure of the movie did shock the film industry as Akshay is one of the biggest stars in the country and has had one of the best success ratios among the top-tier actors. ## During a recent interview with IndiaToday, Akshay was asked about "Bachchan Pandey" and whether its failure has affected his choices. For the unversed, BP is the remake of the 2014 Tamil film "Jigarthanda". ## "Dealing with failure is the same. I've not just had 13-14 flops, there was again a time in the middle where my 8-9 films flopped. I always say you can feel bad for a flop from Friday to Sunday, on Monday you have to pick yourself up and go do another film and be very happy on the set. You can't carry around your sad face everywhere", Akshay said. ## During the covid-19 pandemic, the Hindi remakes of South Indian movies haven't worked at the box office as the audience is already exposed to the dubbed versions of those films, thanks to the TV and OTT revolution. It has been made perception that Bollywood shouldn't do remakes, however, Akshay thinks otherwise. The "Sooryavanshi" actor believes that there is no problem in remaking a good movie. ## "I was recently questioned why I am doing two remakes. To which I say, why shouldn't I? What is the problem with it? My 'Oh My God' was remade in Telugu, the film worked here as well as there, I did their 'Rowdy Rathore', it worked there as well as here. So, why does anyone have an issue with that? If there is a good south Indian film and we are taking the rights and remaking here, what's the issue? People are saying we don't have talent here, of course, we have talent here, but if we have liked a story then why can't we remake it in Hindi?"## Akshay is currently waiting for the release of his magnum opus "Prithviraj", which is scheduled to release on June 3rd in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. ## Stay tuned...

South Indian Filmmakers Have Raised The Status Of Indian Cinema, Says Karan Johar

Mumbai, May 22 - The trailer of the upcoming comedy-drama film, "Jug Jugg Jeeyo" was launched on May 22 amid much fanfare in Mumbai. Directed by Raj Mehta ("Good Newwz"), the movie stars Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Kiara Advani in the leading roles. ## During the trailer launch event, producer Karan Johar was asked to comment on the ongoing Bollywood vs South Indian film industry debate. Karan Johar, who has produced some South Indian films, admitted that the South filmmakers have indeed raised the standard of Indian cinema and that he is very proud of it. ## "When we talk about films like Pushpa (The Rise), RRR, and KGF (Chapter 2) doing good business, we can truly say that this is Indian Cinema. I can say I am proud of Indian cinema as a whole. They have raised the status of Indian cinema. Rajamouli sir, Sukumar, and KGF makers have all told us how far we can go and how much we can do, they have truly raised our standards", he said. ## "Gangubai Kathiawadi has done such good business and now Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has kicked off a massive opening. Now we just wish that Jug Jugg Jeeyo gets added to that list. We hope that films of every language do well whether it is Tamil, Telugu, or Marathi. We just don't want any language to be compared to each other. We just want to be proud of Indian cinema", Karan added. ## The Bollywood film industry used to be the leader of the Indian cinema, however, for the last two years during the covid-19 pandemic, the Hindi film industry has struggled a lot. While on the other hand, the South Indian movies are doing excellent at the box office. ## Accepting the supremacy of South Indian films, Karan Johar added, "The best crossover that has happened was when the South cinema did well in North. It doesn't matter if the film is screened at some festival abroad or if we win an Oscar". ## Meanwhile, Karan Johar's Dharma Productions has produced "Jug Jugg Jeeyo" and the movie promises to be a complete family entertainer. Trade believes it could be a big hit at the box office. The movie releases on June 24th worldwide. ## Stay tuned...

'Akshay Kumar Can't Be Replaced': Anees Bazmee

Mumbai, May 21 - The sequel to Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan's 2007's horror-comedy "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" has been released in theaters on May 20th. This time, for a change, Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani have stepped in to play the leads with Tabu stepping into the shoes of Vidya Balan as Anjulika & Manjulika. ## While the star cast and the story are completely different, the Anees Bazmee-directed film has managed to entertain the audiences just like its preceder. There were always doubts whether this movie could justify the original movie, but post the release most fans can agree that the sequel is a package that turned out to be even better than expected.## Meanwhile, the fans of this classical horror-comedy were surprised when the movie was announced with Kartik Aaryan in the lead but not Akshay. In a recent chat with Indian Express, director Anees Bazmee was asked why he did not cast Akshay and Vidya for the sequel. To this, the filmmaker replied, "Akshay is too big for these small things".## "Akshay Kumar cannot be replaced, and he knows that he is not replaced in this film. Akshay has had a great body of work for over 25 years. Akshay is doing comedy, he is dancing, he is doing the action, he is doing everything, and he is getting offered the kind of films he wants. So, it is a very small thing for him to do or not do Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2", Bazmee said. ## The director went on to add that if the story would have permitted, Akshay would have agreed to come on board. He shared that he and Akshay have a great relationship as well as a friendship. Meanwhile, Akshay also spoke about "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2" and said he hasn't seen the movie yet but know the story of it. ## Stay tuned...

Producer Dil Raju Opens Up On Inflated Box Office Collections In Tollywood

Hyderabad, May 21 - Noted Telugu film producer, Dil Raju has said that the Tollywood film industry urgently needs a proper tracking system to stop producers from inflating box office collections. ## Inflating box office numbers in Tollywood is not new as the numbers game has risen to the top of the priority list in Tollywood. The latest film in question is Mahesh Babu's "Sarakru Vaari Paata". While the producers have revealed that the movie is nearing Rs. 200 crores worldwide, Twitter has been buzzing with questions about how the producers were able to pull in such large crowds despite the film's mixed reviews.## In response to a similar question, producer Dil Raju stated that this trend has continued for all films and that no one film stands out in terms of box office receipts. He hopes that in Telugu states, proper tracking will be implemented to prevent these inflated collections.## "It's not fair to judge a film solely on its box office receipts. Even without proof, a few websites published that some of the 'SVP' collections were simply fake. These problems could be solved with a proper box office tracking system", says Dil Raju.## Meanwhile, Dil Raju is awaiting the release of "F3: Fun and Furstration", which is scheduled to release on May 27th. It stars Venkatesh, Varun Tej, Tamannah Bhatia, Mehreen Pirzada, and Sonal Chauhan, among others in key roles. ## Stay tuned...
