Spider-Man: No Way Home Shatters Records With 3rd Biggest All-Time North America Box Office Launch
Los Angeles, December 17 - "Spider-Man: No Way Home" shattered records at the domestic (North America) box office, launching to a colossal $50 million from Thursday pre-shows. This is the 3rd biggest preview launch ever for a Hollywood movie at the domestic BO, behind only "Avengers Endgame" ($60M), and Star Wars - The Force Awakens ($57M). ## For a film released during the covid-19 pandemic, the Tom Holland-fronted beats the previous biggest domestic preview grosser, "Black Widow" ($13.2M) by a long margin. The opening weekend of "No Way Home" is currently heading for a legendary $200M-$225M, as per the local trades.## According to trade expert Gitesh Pandya, 10% of "Spider-Man: No Way Home" Thursday gross in North America came from IMAX screens - $5.1M. Overseas for IMAX, it was the number 1 opening day box office all-time in Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Panama, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Greece & Egypt. And 2nd all-time in India.## The Hollywood box office is continuously rising with each passing film, despite the rise in covid cases and the emergence of a new and troubling Omicron variant. If projections hold, "No Way Home" will be the first pandemic-era movie to cross $100 million in a single weekend in North America. Only one other film, Sony's comic book sequel "Venom: Let There Be Carnage", has come close to hitting that benchmark, with initial revenues at a still-impressive $90 million domestically.## Stay tuned...
