Mumbai, September 7, 2021: Kangana Ranaut starrer Thalaivi is all set to release in theaters this Friday, September 10. Thalaivi is a multilingual biographical drama film based on the life of J. Jayalalithaa, an actress and politician who served six times as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. ## Kangana, who plays Jayalalithaa in the movie, called this biopic the best film of her career so far and is confident that it will bring the audiences back to theaters. Kangana wrote in an Instagram story, "What a gratifying experience to watch Thalaivii, the best film of my career so far. Thalaivii is a theatrical experience, hopefully Hindi multiplexes will also play it. I am confident that it will bring audiences back to theatres". ## Meanwhile, Thalaivi producers Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh are holding a special screening for the film industry members back-to-back, showing confidence in their movie. They held a screening of the biopic for members of the Chennai film industry on Saturday (September 4) and another screening for the Hyderabad industry on Sunday (September 5). ## Not only for Tamil and Telugu industry members, but Thalaivii producers are also holding multiple screenings for the Hindi film industry members from Monday onwards. Record-Breaker 'Shang-Chi' Racing Towards $100 Million Domestic Gross

Los Angeles, September 7, 2021: Marvel Studios' latest superhero movie, "Shang-Chi And The Legend of the Ten Rings" box office outcome may have changed Disney's plans to release future MCU movies during the covid-19 pandemic. So far, Disney has taken a simultaneous duel route (except Shang-Chi) for its movies (during this pandemic) in theaters and on Disney Plus. ## The Simu Liu fronted "Shang-Chi" smashed domestic box office records and performed way better than it was anticipated. The first Asian Marvel superhero, "Shang-Chi" has posted the second-biggest three-day debut of the pandemic year so far with approx $75 million at the domestic (North America) box office.## The Destin Daniel Cretton directorial is racing towards $100 million domestic gross sooner than expected after it crashed the record for Labor Day openings with a four-day haul (Fri-Mon) of $94.7 million. In other words, "Shang-Chi" earned at least $25 - $30 million more than it was predicted in the opening weekend. It is the biggest 4-day haul for any Hollywood movie during the pandemic at the domestic box office. The previous best was "Black Widow", which earned $87.5M over the first 4 days.## Globally, "Shang-Chi" has grossed an estimated $130 million after opening up in key markets such as France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Mexico, and India. Marvel is the biggest overseas franchise in India, and as expected, "Shang-Chi" topped the Indian box office for the opening weekend with Rs. 12.63 crore gross. ## "Shang-Chi" fell just short of fellow Marvel pic "Black Widow", which holds the record of the biggest 3-day opening at the domestic box office during the pandemic. This Scarlett Johansson starrer earned $80.3 million in the first weekend and is currently the highest grosser Hollywood pic at the North America box office. ## "Shang-Chi" centers on a former assassin who must contend with the legacy of his evil father and the crime syndicate he operates. It’s the first Marvel movie to have an Asian superhero as its protagonist. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie stars Simu Liu in title role along with Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, Tony Leung and Meng'er Zhang. ## The thundering box office response for "Shang-Chi" made Sony Pictures push up the release date of Tom Hardy starrer "Venom: Let There Be Carnage". It was scheduled to debut on October 15 but now, it will hit screens two weeks earlier on October 1 in the USA. Mumbai, September 6, 2021: National award-winning filmmaker, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has penned down a hard-hitting note to the Bollywood leaders, who remain silent as cinemas are closed in Maharashtra. The Tashkent Files director, in an open letter, urged Bollywood leaders to stand up and ensure that government listens and opens up cinemas. ## Theaters in Maharashtra are closed since April 2021, even though, most of the States have allowed theaters to operate. Vivek Agnihotri, in his letter, highlights the unjustified closure of cinema halls in the biggest movie market for Hindi films. He also mentioned that because of the silence of B-towners and the rise of OTTs, the Hindi film industry is going through an existential crisis. ## The filmmaker note down key points, referring to Bollywood artists and filmmakers, as follows - ## 1. You have earned hundreds of crores from your films which released in theaters.## 2. You have earned hundreds of crores because people paid for your movies.## 3. You are leader because you earned hundreds of crore and have a clout, experience, money and power.## 4. You can not just keep the perks of being a leader/star and keep quiet when there is a crisis. You know Bollywood is also the soft power of India.## 5. You know that Bollywood going through an existential crisis for three reasons: a] Locked theaters b] OTTs, and c] Public anger towards you.## 6. Imagine you are a big corporation and your brand faces the same situation. Will you go in hiding and wait for the situation to improve or you will firefight it?## 7. You haven't done anything except for keeping quiet and let destiny take its course. The general assumption in the industry is that people are dumb and they will again fall at the feet of the stars or at the box office as soon as movies release again. You are absolutely wrong and myopic.## 8. This is the real test of your creative integrity. The movie went through casting changes as Sidharth Malhotra opted out of the project and Aditya Roy Kapur stepped in as the lead. ## While Sidharth Malhotra was out of the project, Mrunal Thakur remained attached to this project from the very beggning. The makers have now reconfirmed her appearance as the female lead in the movie. Mrunal will play a fiery cop in the actioner that revolves around two lookalikes who are the primary suspects in a murder case. ## "When I heard the story, I instantly knew that I needed to be a part of this film. My character is intriguing, and playing a cop has been on my checklist. Sidharth's passing has left me, like most of us, numb and shocked, although I did not know him personally". ## Returning from Sidharth's funeral on Friday, Aly Goni said, "I can't still believe that such a happy and hearty person is no more among us. Mumbai, September 5, 2021: Actress Kangana Ranaut, who will be seen on the big screen in the upcoming movie Thalaivi, has praised multiplex chains for allowing the movie to screen in their theaters. The actress had earlier urged the multiplex chains to help each other during these tough times after multiplex owners refused to screen the movie as it has only two week theatrical window for the Hindi version. ## While multiplex chains won't screen Thalaivi's Hindi version, they agreed to screen Tamil and Telugu versions as they have four week theatrical window before going to Amazon Prime Video. Calling it a ray of hope, Kangana took to Twitter and said that she was moved by the decision and penned a long note. ## She wrote: "PVR's decision to screen the Tamil and Telugu versions of the film is a ray of hope for Team Thalaivii as well as all those cinegoers who are waiting to rush back to their favourite multiplex chain for a cinematic experience. I am personally moved by the kind words used for me and Team Thalaivii". ## The actress hopes that the Hindi version of the film also gets to see the light of day. "And I hope with talks, and a passion for the theatrical experience, we can come together to find a solution so that the Hindi version can also find love and appreciation on the big screen @pvrcinemas_official - Lots of Love, Kangana".## A statement on behalf of Kamal Gianchandani, CEO, PVR Pictures Ltd, Chief of Strategy, PVR Limited read, "We are thankful to 'Thalaivii' team for offering a 4 week theatrical window for its Tamil and Telugu language versions. We are delighted to be able to play 'Thalaivii' in Tamil and Telugu language at our cinemas, however, we are disappointed that for the Hindi language version, 'Thalaivii' team has decided to offer only a 2 week window". ## "We would like to appeal to Ms Kangana Ranaut, Mr Vishnu Induri & Mr. Shailesh Singh to keep a uniform window of 4 weeks across all language versions and therefore allow all cinemas across the country to showcase 'Thalaivii' to audiences, on the big screen.
