Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra tells the story of Chandra (Kalyani Priyadarshan), a mysterious, goth-inspired woman who returns from Sweden to Bengaluru, taking up a night-shift cafe job. To her neighbours, Sunny (Naslen) and his friends, her strange nocturnal lifestyle is both intriguing and unsettling, and soon it's revealed that she is far from ordinary—Chandra is a Yakshi, a supernatural being from Kerala folklore with vampiric powers. Summoned by a shadowy figure named Moothon, who controls other superpowered entities worldwide, her presence hints at a much larger conflict brewing in the shadows. The film blends everyday realism—rent, illness, and vulnerability—with mythic fantasy, creating a superhero origin story that feels grounded yet epic. Beyond its supernatural thrills, the movie is praised for breaking away from typical hyper-masculine, nationalistic superhero tropes by offering a female-led, progressive narrative rooted in folklore and emotional depth. Chandra is portrayed not only as powerful but also deeply human, haunted by tragedy and sorrow.
