Mumbai, August 24 - Akshay Kumar is venturing into uncharted territory with Samuk, an ambitious alien action thriller that has officially gone on floors. The film marks a reunion between Kumar and producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah and is being mounted as a large-scale pan-Indian theatrical venture with global production ambitions.
Produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, directed by Kanishk Varma and co-produced by Aashin A Shah, Samuk is described as a survival-action thriller that blends military realism, survival horror and alien mythology. The project has reportedly been in development for over two years, with the makers working extensively on building a distinctive world for the film.
One of the biggest international names attached to the project is Academy Award-nominated creature effects designer Alec Gillis, known for his work on the Alien and Predator franchises. Gillis has designed the central alien creature for Samuk, adding an international creature-effects component to the ambitious production.
The film also features an international technical crew, including British action director Luke Tumber, who is designing and directing the action sequences. With an international creature and stunt team working alongside the Indian production unit, the makers are aiming to deliver action and visual effects on a scale rarely attempted in Indian cinema.
For Akshay Kumar, Samuk represents a fresh genre outing as the actor takes on an alien-driven survival story. With its combination of large-scale action, creature effects, military elements, and alien mythology, the film is shaping up to be one of the actor's more unconventional theatrical projects.
