Akshay Kumar's Production House Claims Exclusive Rights to Hera Pheri 3, Issues Legal Warning

Mumbai, July 5 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's production house, Cape of Good Films LLP, has issued a legal warning claiming exclusive worldwide rights over the much-awaited film Hera Pheri 3. The company reportedly published a public notice stating that it holds the sole authority to produce, distribute, market, and commercially exploit the film across all platforms.

The notice also warned distributors, OTT platforms, exhibitors, and other industry stakeholders against entering into any agreement related to the film without written permission from the production house. The company stated that any unauthorised association could invite legal action.

The development comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the future of Hera Pheri 3. Reports of legal disputes over the franchise rights and uncertainty regarding the film's production have surfaced repeatedly in recent months. Director Priyadarshan had also stepped away from the project due to unresolved issues.

Despite the legal complications, fans continue to hope for the reunion of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal in the iconic comedy franchise. The latest announcement has now added another twist to the highly anticipated sequel's journey. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar's Welcome To The Jungle is currently playing in theatres and doing good business.

Sunny Deol Faces First Major Setback Post Gadar 2 Hysteria: What Batwara 1947's Failure Means For His Comeback

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, August 20 - Bollywood star Sunny Deol's winning streak is coming to an end, with Batwara 1947 turning out to be a box office failure. The actor had been on a winning run after his massive comeback with Gadar 2 in 2023, before Rajkumar Santoshi-directed partition drama put the brake on it. The movie arrived on August 14, during the Independence Day holiday, working in its favour. However, the film has failed to sustain audience interest and has fallen well behind Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2, which was released on the same day. Batwara 1947 had collected around 32 crore net in India in 6 days, with day-wise collections continuing to drop. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The setback becomes more significant when viewed against Sunny Deol's extraordinary post-Gadar 2 phase. Gadar 2 turned into a historic blockbuster in 2023 and revived Deol's box-office standing, while action drama Jaat followed it with a decent success in 2025 before Border 2 emerged as one of the biggest grossers of the year so far, further strengthening his position as a major mass-market star. Expectations were therefore high when he reunited with Rajkumar Santoshi, with Aamir Khan backing the project. Yet Batwara 1947 opened to only around 5.75 crore net, and although the Independence Day holiday provided a substantial boost, the film could not maintain that momentum once the holiday period ended. The biggest warning sign has been the sharp weekday drop. After benefiting from the Independence Day weekend, Batwara 1947 witnessed a steep decline in collections, indicating that the film was heavily dependent on the holiday audience rather than strong, sustained word of mouth. At the same time, Awarapan 2 continued to gain momentum and crossed the 100 crore mark in India within 5 days. The contrast between the two films has been stark, with Emraan Hashmi's sequel increasingly commanding the audience's preference and putting additional pressure on Batwara 1947's screen count. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Batwara 1947's failure also raises questions about the limits of Sunny Deol's post-Gadar 2 stardom. His recent success has largely come from mass-oriented films built around action, emotion and nostalgia, whereas Batwara 1947 is a period drama dealing with the Partition. Despite the powerful subject and respected names behind it, the film has not managed to create the same theatrical urgency. The ongoing screen-sharing tussle with Awarapan 2 has further complicated matters, with distributors of the Sunny Deol starrer reportedly seeking to retain shows at single-screen cinemas in the second week. Ultimately, Batwara 1947 is a setback, but not necessarily a setback for Sunny Deol's entire comeback story. The actor has already demonstrated with Gadar 2 and Border 2 that he can deliver major theatrical numbers when the project connects with the mass audience. What the film does show, however, is that the post-Gadar 2 hysteria cannot guarantee success on its own. Deol's upcoming choices will now be closely watched to see whether he can once again find the right combination of character, genre and mass appeal that turned his comeback into one of the biggest stories in recent Hindi cinema.

Batwara 1947 vs Awarapan 2: Screen-Sharing Battle Continues In Second Week As Sunny Deol Starrer Seeks One Show At Single Screens

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, August 20 - The screen-sharing battle between Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2 has entered a fresh round, with the distributor of the Sunny Deol starrer reportedly pushing for theatrical showcasing at single-screen cinemas. The latest development comes at a crucial juncture, with exhibitors already facing pressure to accommodate the strong demand for Awarapan 2 while another major release, Yash's Toxic, is arriving in theatres on August 26. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the distributor of Batwara 1947 has asked single-screen theatres to allot at least one show per day to the Sunny Deol film from August 21. The request has reportedly put exhibitors in a difficult position, as several single screens are keen on giving maximum shows to Awarapan 2, which has been generating stronger audience demand. The situation becomes even more complicated because the distributor of Awarapan 2 is reportedly seeking all shows at single screens through August 27. However, with Toxic scheduled to release on Wednesday, August 26, exhibitors will have to make room for Yash's much-awaited action thriller as well. This effectively turns the show allocation battle into a three-way tussle during a crucial week for the theatrical business. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The distributors and exhibitors are now reportedly engaged in discussions to arrive at a workable solution. While Batwara 1947 is seeking at least a basic presence at single screens, Awarapan 2 is looking to capitalise on its current momentum, and Toxic will demand substantial showcasing once it arrives. The final show allocation across single screens is expected to become clearer soon, with the coming days likely to determine which film gets the maximum advantage in these crucial territories.

Action Adventure 'Ranger' Climax Gets A Major Upgrade As Ajay Devgn Takes The Director's Chair

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, August 20 - Ajay Devgn is taking a more hands-on approach to his upcoming action entertainer Ranger, reportedly stepping behind the camera to oversee the film's climax. The development comes as the makers look to mount a bigger and more impactful finale, with Devgn personally taking charge of portions of the reshoot alongside the action team. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to a report by Mid-Day, the original climax, directed by Jagan Shakti, is being reworked to enhance the scale and intensity of the action. Devgn has reportedly taken the director's chair for the sequence, collaborating with action director Kevin Kumar, known for his work on Jailer. The climax is being filmed at Golden Tobacco Studio in Vile Parle, where a large jungle set has been created for the sequence. The much-anticipated finale reportedly centres on a high-octane confrontation between Devgn's forest officer and Sanjay Dutt's poacher gang. The sequence is expected to feature car chases, gun battles and hand-to-hand combat, giving Ranger a major action spectacle towards the end. The decision to reshoot the climax reportedly stems from the makers' desire to deliver a more ambitious and emotionally satisfying finale. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Ranger is directed by Jagan Shakti and features Ajay Devgn in the role of a forest officer fighting to protect wildlife and tigers. Sanjay Dutt plays the antagonist, while Tamannaah Bhatia is also part of the cast. Following the climax schedule, Tamannaah is expected to join Devgn for a special dance number, which will be another major sequence in the film. With Ajay Devgn now personally involved in shaping the climax, expectations around Ranger have increased. The Devgn-Dutt face-off, coupled with the film's wildlife backdrop and large-scale action, could turn the finale into one of the film's biggest selling points when the movie arrives in theatres. The film is currently scheduled for a December 2026 release.

Awarapan 2 Day 6: Emraan Hashmi Starrer Crosses 107 Crore India net collection as ticket sales pass 2 million on BookMyShow

BY SACNILK

Awarapan 2 has completed its sixth day at the box office with a steady performance. On Wednesday, the film earned 6.75 crore rupees net, which is a 30.8 percent drop from the 9.75 crore rupees it collected on Tuesday. It is worth noting that Tuesday numbers were boosted by discounted ticket offers, which usually leads to a natural dip on the following Wednesday. Despite this midweek decline, the film has successfully passed the 100 crore mark in India net earnings, reaching a total of 107.50 crore rupees so far. The total India gross has reached 128.29 crore rupees, showing a solid domestic footprint. The international market is also providing a reliable stream of revenue, adding 1.50 crore rupees on Wednesday to bring the overseas gross to 25.30 crore rupees. This pushes the overall worldwide gross to 153.59 crore rupees within six days of release. For a sequel of this scale, hitting the 150 crore worldwide mark this early suggests a consistent level of interest from both local and international audiences. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The occupancy levels for the Hindi 2D version provide a clearer understanding of how the audience is distributed throughout the day. On Wednesday, the overall occupancy was 16.72 percent. There was a noticeable progression in attendance as the day moved forward; morning shows started at 9.54 percent, followed by 16.62 percent in the afternoon and 16.92 percent in the evening. The night shows saw the highest engagement at 21.77 percent, which is a typical trend for urban centers where office-goers prefer late screenings. Geographically, the National Capital Region (NCR) continues to be the primary driver for the film, hosting 1,158 shows with an occupancy of 17 percent. Mumbai follows as another significant hub with 862 shows and 16.3 percent occupancy. Other regions like Bengaluru and Ahmedabad also showed decent interest, with 302 shows at 16 percent and 605 shows at 11.5 percent occupancy respectively. While Pune maintained 14 percent occupancy across 410 shows, Surat saw a lower turnout at 6.8 percent across 361 shows. This regional data suggests that the film pull is strongest in major metropolitan clusters. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) One of the more significant milestones for the film is its performance on digital platforms. Awarapan 2 has officially surpassed 2 million ticket sales on BookMyShow. On Wednesday specifically, the platform recorded 94,440 ticket bookings, contributing to a total of roughly 20.40 lakh tickets sold since the release. In the national multiplex chains, the film maintained a fair pace for a Wednesday. Total tickets sold across PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis for the day reached approximately 9,500, generating a gross of about 25 lakh rupees. PVR led these bookings with roughly 5,300 tickets, followed by INOX with 3,500 and Cinepolis with around 600 tickets. Trade analysts are currently projecting a first-week total in the range of 117 crore rupees. If the film achieves this, it will be considered a very strong performance for its opening week. However, the real test will be the second weekend and the subsequent midweek run. A significant factor to watch is the release of Toxic on Wednesday, August 26. The arrival of such a high-profile competitor will likely impact the screen count and daily collections of Awarapan 2. Therefore, the next few days will be crucial in determining the lifetime business potential of the film before it faces major market competition.

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, August 19 - Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor is set to return to the Astraverse with Brahmastra Part Two: Dev, as director Ayan Mukerji gears up to take forward the ambitious franchise. The movie has been in development since Part 1's release in 2022, and now, it is set to roll next. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to a report by Pinkvilla, Ranbir Kapoor is set to begin shooting for the much-awaited sequel in April 2027, after completing work on Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana Part 2. The scripting and pre-production for Brahmastra 2 are reportedly already underway. Ranbir is expected to wrap Ramayana Part 2 by January 2027 and will then undergo a brief preparation period before commencing Brahmastra 2. The sequel will reportedly see him take on a challenging dual role as Shiva and Dev, expanding the conflict and mythology established in the first film. Alia Bhatt is also set to reprise her role as Isha, bringing back the central pairing from Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The report further states that Ayan Mukerji is in discussions with Deepika Padukone for the role of Amruta, with the filmmaker and his team believing that the character requires an actor with considerable screen presence and gravitas. Deepika's casting is not officially confirmed yet, with her availability and the overall shooting schedule still being worked out. Brahmastra 2 is expected to take the Astraverse on a significantly larger scale, continuing Ayan Mukerji's modern interpretation of Indian mythology. With Ranbir returning as both Shiva and Dev, Alia reprising Isha and Deepika potentially joining the franchise, the sequel could bring together one of the biggest casts in contemporary Hindi cinema.

Dhamaal 4 Day 40: Ajay Devgn Starrer Set to Fall Shy of 170 Crore Net Milestone as Shows Reduce Drastically

BY SACNILK

After a successful run that lasted over a month, Dhamaal 4 is finally approaching the end of its theatrical journey. The film has been a significant contributor to the box office in 2026, but the latest numbers indicate that it is now reaching a point of exhaustion. With new releases like Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947 taking over the majority of screens, the space for this comedy sequel has shrunk considerably. While it has performed admirably, the current pace suggests it will not be able to hit any further major milestones, likely settling just shy of the 170 crore net mark. The drop in show counts tells the story of its final phase. Just a few days ago, around Day 35, the film was still running across 1,670 shows. however, by its sixth week, that number has plummeted to double digits, with Day 40 recording only 84 shows across India. On its 40th day, a Tuesday, the film earned a meager 0.02 crore net, bringing the total India net collection to 167.62 crore. While the film saw a small jump over its sixth weekend, the weekday collections have now fallen to the level of a few lakhs, signifying that the movie has almost entirely completed its run in theaters. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Despite the current slow pace, the lifetime achievements of Dhamaal 4 are impressive. It has officially locked its place as the 4th highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2026, comfortably outperforming other major comedy rivals like Welcome To The Jungle. On the global stage, the film has achieved a worldwide gross collection of 229.88 crore. This is supported by an India gross of 199.03 crore and a respectable overseas contribution of 30.85 crore. For a franchise that relies on ensemble comedy, reaching these heights after 40 days is a clear win for the makers. The film has also been a personal success for Ajay Devgn. In terms of lifetime ticket sales on BookMyShow, Dhamaal 4 has recorded 2.89 million tickets sold, making it the 4th highest-selling film in the actor's career on the platform. It sits just behind his other major hits like Singham Again, which leads with 3.77 million tickets, followed by Shaitaan at 2.97 million and Raid 2 at 2.91 million. However, it significantly outperforms titles like De De Pyaar De 2, which recorded 1.11 million tickets. This high volume of ticket sales highlights the initial pull the film had across both multiplexes and single screens before the competitive wave of new big-budget releases took over. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) While Dhamaal 4 is fading out of theaters with over 202,714 shows under its belt, it leaves the box office as one of the standout successes of the year. The transition to digital platforms is the next logical step as it reaches theatrical exhaustion, and industry insiders are already speculating that the film will arrive on OTT by September 4. This move will allow the comedy to reach a wider audience at home now that the theater space is dominated by newer releases.

Batwara 1947 Day 5: Fading Interest Forces a 24% Screen Cut as Sunny Deol's Film Earns ₹2.25 Cr While Awarapan 2 Takes Over

BY SACNILK

When Batwara 1947 was first announced, it carried the weight of high expectations. A period drama centered around the partition of India usually attracts a massive audience due to its emotional and patriotic appeal. However, despite the grand scale, a reported high production budget, and a cast meant to draw in the crowds, the film is currently struggling to find its footing at the box office. The initial buzz has unfortunately not translated into the kind of numbers required for a film of this magnitude to be considered a success. As it stands, the movie is significantly underperforming, and the word of mouth appears to be quite mixed, primarily citing a slow narrative as a major hurdle. Looking at the fifth-day performance, there is a small silver lining. On Tuesday, the film earned 2.25 crore net in India, which is a 12.5 percent growth compared to Monday's 2.00 crore. This slight uptick is largely due to the discounted ticket prices typical of mid-week promotions, which often help struggling films see a minor surge. However, for a film that has only managed to collect a total India net of 30.75 crore after five days, this growth is likely too little, too late. The total India gross stands at 36.54 crore, which is a disappointing figure given the thousands of shows allocated to it across the country. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The harsh reality of the box office is currently playing out through a significant screen crunch for the film. Exhibitors have started redistributing shows based on demand, which has hit Batwara 1947 particularly hard. While the movie started its journey with over 8,700 shows on Friday, that number has steadily declined to just 6,608 shows by Tuesday. In sharp contrast, Awarapan 2, which is riding a massive wave of success, has seen its show count climb from an initial 9,033 to a whopping 11,060 in the same period. This trend of theater owners pulling screens from a high-budget period drama to accommodate a thriving sequel is a clear sign that the audience has made its choice, leaving Batwara 1947 with very little room to recover. The performance in national chains further highlights the uphill battle the film is facing. On Tuesday, PVR recorded approximately 8,700 tickets sold with a gross of around 13.7 lakh. INOX and Cinepolis followed with roughly 4,800 and 2,300 tickets respectively. Across these major players, the total ticket sales for the day hovered around the 16,000 mark. While these numbers contribute to the 480,000 total tickets booked on BookMyShow so far, they remain far below the benchmarks set by other big-budget releases this year. In total, the film ran across 6,608 shows on its fifth day, contributing to a cumulative total of over 37,410 shows since its release. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Regional occupancy data provides a clearer picture of where the film is finding some resonance and where it is failing. Given the historical context of the partition, the National Capital Region (NCR) has emerged as the strongest market. With 673 shows, NCR saw an occupancy of 26 percent. This is expected as themes related to the 1947 era often have a deeper cultural connection in the North. In contrast, markets like Mumbai and Ahmedabad, which are usually strongholds for big Hindi releases, are underperforming. Mumbai recorded a 17.5 percent occupancy across 389 shows, while Ahmedabad sat at 15 percent with 358 shows. The numbers in the South and other parts of the West are even more concerning, with Bengaluru and Surat struggling to cross the 11 percent occupancy mark. On the international front, the story remains much the same. Batwara 1947 collected 0.50 crore overseas on Tuesday, taking its total international gross to 6.75 crore. When combined with the domestic earnings, the worldwide gross collection stands at 43.29 crore. For a film produced on a high scale with an aim for a global audience, these numbers point toward a commercial failure. Unless there is a miraculous turnaround in the coming weekend, the film is unlikely to recover its substantial investment, marking it as one of the more notable box office disappointments of the season.

Awarapan 2 Day 5: Emraan Hashmi's Sequel Smashes Into the 100 Crore Club, Matching the Historic Speed of Kabir Singh and Sooryavanshi!

BY SACNILK

It is not every day that we see a sequel managed with such balance, but Awarapan 2 seems to have struck a chord with the audience that goes beyond just nostalgia. While the first film remains a cult classic for its soul-stirring music and Emraan Hashmi’s brooding performance, this second installment has successfully modernized the appeal. The buzz on social media, no major movies to compete and strong word of mouth suggest that the viewers are appreciating the gritty narrative and the emotional depth brought back to the screen. It is this organic interest that has helped the film maintain its momentum well past the opening weekend. The big story today is that Awarapan 2 has officially entered the 100 Crore Club on its day 5. By crossing this milestone in just five days, the film has placed itself alongside some of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema history. To give you some context, achieving this feat in five days puts the movie in the same league as hits like Kabir Singh, RRR (Hindi), and Sooryavanshi. It has also matched the pace of other massive entertainers like Simmba and Mission Mangal, which similarly crossed the century mark on their fifth day of release. Joining such a list is a clear indicator that the film is not just a weekend wonder but a genuine box office hit. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) If we look at the Tuesday performance, the numbers tell an interesting story of growth. Usually, films see a bit of a dip during the weekdays, but Awarapan 2 actually saw its collections rise. On Day 5, the film earned 9.75 crore net, which is a 5.4 percent increase from the previous day. Much of this can be attributed to the discounted ticket offers available on Tuesdays, which encouraged many viewers to head to the theaters. This brings the total India net collection to a solid 100.75 crore, while the India gross stands at 120.33 crore. When we break down the performance in national chains, the support from major multiplexes remains firm. On Tuesday alone, PVR saw around 34,000 tickets sold, while INOX and Cinepolis contributed roughly 18,000 and 9,000 tickets respectively. This brings the total ticket sales across these three major chains to approximately 61,000 for the day. This steady flow of audience in the premium chains is complemented by a massive response on booking platforms, with BookMyShow recording over 1.94 million tickets sold so far since the release. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) What is particularly fascinating is how the film is performing across different regions. Historically, Emraan Hashmi has enjoyed a very loyal fan base in the Mumbai circuit and mass-heavy regions like Maharashtra and Gujarat. While Mumbai is doing respectable business with 876 shows and an overall occupancy of 28 percent, it is actually the National Capital Region (NCR) that is leading the way. With a massive 1,149 shows, NCR recorded an impressive 44.3 percent occupancy. It is quite a shift to see the North performing even better than the actor's traditional stronghold in the West, indicating that the film's theme has found a much wider, pan-India acceptance. Even Tier 2 and Tier 3 centers are showing high night-show occupancies, often touching 43 percent, which is a sign of long-term stability. The success is not just limited to the domestic market either. Overseas, the film added another 2 crore on its fifth day, pushing the total international gross to 23.80 crore. When you combine the domestic and international numbers, the worldwide gross for Awarapan 2 now stands at 144.13 crore. With no major competition in sight for the coming days, the film looks set to continue its strong run at the box office, proving that a well-made sequel with the right emotional hook can still bring the masses back to the big screen.

Naagin Is Coming To Theatres? Ektaa Kapoor Teases Big-Screen Adaptation of The Decade Long TV Series

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, August 18 - Ektaa Kapoor is set to take her hugely popular Naagin franchise beyond television, with the iconic supernatural series now reportedly being developed for the big screen. The filmmaker teased the development on August 17, marking a major new chapter for a franchise that has dominated Indian television for more than a decade. The announcement comes on the occasion of Nag Panchami and has immediately sparked curiosity among fans about what a theatrical version could look like. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The Naagin television franchise began in 2015 and has since completed seven seasons, establishing itself as one of the country's most recognisable supernatural properties. The series, produced by Ektaa Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under Balaji Telefilms, revolves around shape-shifting serpents and has featured several leading television actresses in its various seasons. Balaji Telefilms has itself described Naagin 1 through Naagin 7 as an extremely successful mystical-fantasy franchise. For now, the big-screen project remains shrouded in mystery. Details regarding the cast, director, storyline and others have not been revealed. This leaves the biggest question unanswered — who will play the next Naagin on the big screen? Given the franchise's popularity, speculation about a major Bollywood actress taking on the iconic role is already expected to intensify. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Interestingly, the idea of turning Naagin into a feature film is not entirely new. Ektaa Kapoor has previously spoken about wanting to develop a cinematic version of the property, with reports suggesting that she had even approached major Bollywood names in the past. However, this latest announcement appears to signal that the franchise is finally ready to make the transition from television to cinema. The timing could also make the project particularly interesting. Bollywood has increasingly embraced fantasy, supernatural stories and established IPs, while Naagin already comes with a massive audience and years of built-in recognition. A theatrical adaptation would allow the makers to significantly expand the scale of its mythology, action and visual effects compared with television. Batwara 1947 Day 4: Sunny Deol Fails To Topple His 13-Year-Old Top 10 First Monday Record As Singh Saab The Great Stays 17% Ahead

BY SACNILK

Batwara 1947 has encountered a disastrous first Monday at the box office, earning just 2.00 crore net across India. This brings the four-day domestic net total to 28.50 crore, a figure that is deeply concerning when measured against the film reported budget of 120 to 150 crore. A 72.4 percent crash from Sunday 7.25 crore collection indicates that the film has failed to find a steady audience. The situation is made even more difficult by the ongoing dominance of Awarapan 2, which has monopolized the interest of the mass audience and left very little room for a heavy period drama to recover. In the current market, when a film with such a high production cost sees a Monday drop this steep, the path to recovery becomes nearly impossible. The global numbers offer no relief either. With only 0.75 crore coming in from overseas markets on Monday, the worldwide gross has reached 40.20 crore. For a Sunny Deol project mounted on such a massive scale, these numbers are far below the break-even point. While the film has managed to maintain a presence across 30,800 shows so far. Even though the India gross has reached 33.95 crore, the massive gap between the current earnings and the production cost indicates that the film is heading toward a heavy loss. The focus is no longer on hitting milestones, but rather on how much of the investment can be salvaged before the theatrical run ends. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Across major chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, the film held approximately 2,000 shows on Monday. These platforms sold around 4,700 tickets, generating a gross revenue of roughly 12 lakh. PVR lead the count with about 2,700 tickets sold, followed by INOX and Cinepolis. The overall occupancy for the day remained on the lower side at 10.21 percent, starting with a quiet 6 percent in the morning and peaking at 12.5 percent during the night shows. The regional data paints a concerning picture of how Sunny Deol's usual box office strength is missing here. While the National Capital Region hosted the highest volume of screenings with 680 shows, it could only manage an 11 percent occupancy rate. For an actor whose films typically dominate the northern belt, these numbers are quite low. The struggle is even more visible in the western markets, where Surat recorded a negligible 3.5 percent occupancy and Ahmedabad stayed at 7 percent. Even in Bengaluru, which often supports diverse genres, the occupancy stayed under 9 percent. These figures indicate that the film is failing to gain any meaningful traction outside of a very small segment of the audience. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The digital sales and multiplex performance further highlight this lack of interest. On Monday, the film sold just under 29,700 tickets on BookMyShow, which is a sharp decline from its Sunday pace. The situation in major national chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis is particularly weak. Across nearly 2,000 shows in these multiplexes, the film sold only about 4,700 tickets in total. This averages out to less than three tickets per show, suggesting that many screens were running nearly empty. While Sunny Deol has a legendary track record of massive Monday collections with films like Gadar 2 and Border 2, Batwara 1947 is currently struggling at the bottom of his career list, barely staying ahead of his releases from twenty years ago. The film is currently benefiting from a lack of major competition in its specific genre, allowing it to maintain over 6,700 shows on a weekday. However, the window for recovery is narrow. With the arrival of Toxic on August 26th, the box office momentum is expected to slow down significantly as screens get reallocated. It is now a race to add as much as possible to the kitty before next Wednesday. With the domestic gross currently sitting at 33.95 crore, the film needs to stay steady throughout the week to salvage its final total in this competitive market. The focus will now be on keeping the collections steady throughout the week to ensure the film reaches a comfortable lifetime total.

Awarapan 2 Day 4: Emraan Hashmi Hits 91 Crore Net and Surpasses Raaz 3 Lifetime Total Despite Monday Being 31% Slower

BY SACNILK

Awarapan 2 has successfully navigated its first Monday test by earning 9.25 crore across the domestic market. This takes the total India net collection to a strong 91.00 crore, while the worldwide gross has climbed to 130.82 crore in just four days. While the 64.4 percent drop from the 26 crore earned on Sunday is significant, it is a typical stabilization for a film that just delivered a massive opening weekend. For lead actor Emraan Hashmi, these numbers represent a career-defining comeback. It has been fourteen years since he saw a solo success of this scale, and it is poetic that his last major hit was also a sequel. The film builds on the gritty and emotional legacy established by the original cult classic, proving that the audience still has a huge appetite for this franchise. With 10,849 shows running on Monday and a total India gross of 109.02 crore, the movie is now comfortably in the hit zone and eyeing superhit status as it heads toward the 200 crore club. The performance in the national multiplex chains provides a clear picture of the urban audience. Across PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, the film was screened in approximately 3,900 shows on Monday. These major chains sold nearly 30,000 tickets, resulting in a gross revenue of about 78.5 lakh. While the occupancy in these premium centers was modest at around 3.7 percent, it is the performance in single screens and Tier 2 centers that is driving the volume. The overall occupancy for the day stood at 23.48 percent, showing a healthy balance between different types of theater formats. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Regional data highlights some very specific audience behaviors. Bengaluru has emerged as a particularly strong market. Despite having only 298 shows compared to the 1,136 shows in the National Capital Region, Bengaluru recorded much higher occupancy percentages. It reached a peak of 39 percent during the night shows, which is the highest for any major region on Monday. This indicates that the film has a broad demographic appeal that stretches well beyond the traditional Hindi heartland. Meanwhile, the National Capital Region and Mumbai continue to be the primary volume drivers, maintaining steady occupancy levels throughout the day. The movement of crowds throughout the day followed a predictable working-day pattern. Morning shows started slowly with an occupancy of 11.15 percent. As the day progressed, there was a steady climb, with the afternoon reaching 22 percent and the evening hitting 24 percent. The most significant jump happened during the night shows, which peaked at 32.69 percent. This trend of evening growth is a positive sign, suggesting that the film is attracting the working population and maintaining momentum after a massive opening weekend. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In terms of digital ticket sales, Awarapan 2 recorded 173,600 tickets sold on BookMyShow for Monday. While this performance was strong, it was not enough to break into the top five list for Monday sales in the 2025-26 cycle. It currently sits behind record-breaking titles like Dhurandhar 2 and Border 2. However, the film still holds the distinction of being the third-highest opening weekend grosser for a Hindi film this year. Total ticket sales on the platform since the release have now crossed the 1.76 million mark, reflecting the high level of audience interest. This success is a major milestone for Emraan Hashmi, marking his first solo hit in fourteen years. It is worth noting that his last significant solo success was also a sequel, showing his ability to lead established franchises effectively. Given the controlled production budget, the film has already secured its hit status and is now moving toward becoming a superhit. With a clear window at the box office and no major competition until the release of Toxic on August 26th, the film has ample time to build on its 91 crore net total and potentially challenge the 200 crore milestone.

Top 5 Independence Day Weekend Grossers: Awarapan 2 Reigns Supreme As Vishwanath & Sons Scores Well Amid Batwara 1947 Failure

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, August 17 - The Independence Day 2026 weekend turned out to be a competitive one at the Indian box office, with multiple major releases fighting for audience attention. Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 emerged as the clear winner among the new releases, while Suriya's Vishwanath & Sons delivered an impressive opening weekend in the South. On the other hand, Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947 struggled to convert the massive Independence Day opportunity into a major box office result. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 1. Awarapan 2 – 98 crore India gross Awarapan 2 dominated the Independence Day weekend and finished its first three days with around 100 crore India gross, including 31.25 crore gross on Sunday. Its India net stood at around 81.75 crore, while the film also added 19 crore from overseas markets. The Emraan Hashmi-led sequel topped 117 crore worldwide, which is the biggest opening weekend ever for an Emraan Hashmi-starrer. 2. Vishwanath & Sons – 67.25 crore India gross Suriya's Vishwanath & Sons was another major winner during the holiday frame. The family drama collected 67.25 crore India gross in its opening weekend, with the film maintaining strong momentum across its key markets. Its overseas performance was particularly impressive, with the film collecting an estimated 43 crore from international markets by the end of Sunday, with its worldwide gross reaching 110 crore after the 3-day weekend. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 3. Batwara 1947 – 31.50 crore India gross Batwara 1947 had perhaps the most disappointing weekend among the major new releases. The Sunny Deol-led period drama managed 26.50 crore India net, translating into around 31.50 crore India gross over its first three days. After opening at 5.75 crore net, the film jumped strongly to 13.50 crore on Independence Day but dropped sharply to 7.25 crore on Sunday. The film's worldwide gross stood at approximately 37 crore by the end of the opening weekend. 4. Spider-Man: Brand New Day – Strong hold in Week 3 Spider-Man: Brand New Day continued to remain a major contributor to the Indian box office despite entering its third week. The Tom Holland-led Marvel film faced fresh competition from Awarapan 2 and other Independence Day releases but continued to attract substantial audiences by collecting around 27.50+ crore gross, pushing its total India gross to 558+ crores in 18 days. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 5. DC Movie – Continues to contribute to the market The fifth spot was occupied by Lokesh Kanagaraj's acting debut DC Movie, which continued to add to the Indian theatrical business during the holiday weekend. While its numbers were nowhere close to the two major new releases, it benefited from the overall surge in theatrical footfalls during the Independence Day period, collecting approximately 15 crores gross in its second weekend, pushing its total India gross to around 63 crores and worldwide to 84 crore in 10 days. The biggest takeaway from the Independence Day weekend is the contrasting fortunes of Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947. The former has completely seized the box office momentum, registering a near-100 crore India gross in only three days, while the latter has struggled despite Sunny Deol's star power and the massive holiday advantage. Meanwhile, Vishwanath & Sons has also emerged as the other major winner, particularly in the South and overseas markets.
