Chelsea Green Reflects on Emotional Ladder Match Win at SummerSlam

Chelsea Green closed out SummerSlam weekend as a champion, outlasting a chaotic multi-woman ladder match to climb up and pull down the interim women's title — a win that capped a WWE run stretching back to her 2014 debut and came after years of near-misses, injuries and being repeatedly passed over for bigger opportunities. The match saw Green battle through a field that included Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill before the finish came down to who could brave the ladder itself, with Green beating the rest of the field to the top.

Chelsea Green sat down with Nikki and Brie on "The Nikki & Brie Show" and opened up about a night she says played out nothing like she expected. Green admitted she assumed nerves would take over once the moment finally arrived. "I thought I would be nervous when this moment came," she said, "I thought I would be so nervous." Instead, she said she felt unusually calm walking to the ring: "I felt very at peace. I was like, whatever happens, happens."

She described losing herself in the entrance itself, saying the walk to the ring felt less like a wrestling match and more like a performance. "I do feel like I kind of blacked out," Green said, "It was like it felt like my concert." She said she spent the early moments soaking it all in — talking with fellow competitor Tiffany Stratton and waving to her parents at ringside.

That calm didn't last. Green said the emotion built steadily as the match wore on, because she knew what was coming. By the time she was dangling from the ladder as Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill took the match's final bump, she said the feeling shifted entirely. "I felt like electric," she said. "I felt just like the whole crowd started like rumbling ... this is our moment."

Green raced to the top of the ladder at what she called "record speed," saying she hauled herself up out of pure urgency. Part superstition, part disbelief, she said she didn't want to give anyone a chance to change her fortune. "If I don't get up there and climb that ladder and grab that title down, they could change the finish," she said. "This is all these thoughts going on. I'm like, no, not today."

She said the significance of the moment hit her before she'd even unhooked the title, describing years of sacrifice flashing through her mind at the top of the ladder. Green pointed to more than a decade in the business — roughly "12, 13 years" — during which she said she missed close friends' weddings and the births of their children, missed her own father's wedding, broke bones, and underwent heart surgery. "So much has led me to like scurrying up that ladder," she said.

Green also revealed that WWE Superstar Bayley reached out afterward, amazed by how fast she'd climbed. "Bayley texted me the other day and said, 'Girl, I've never seen someone climb a ladder so fast,'" Green recalled.

Looking back, Green said the reality of the moment surpassed even her most hopeful daydreams about it. "It was even better than I had dreamt of," she said, adding that for years she'd quietly accepted the title shot might never come. "It was so far-fetched," she said. "I hope this happens. I wish it would happen, but like it probably won't — and I've come to terms with that, too."

She said she could hear everything happening around her in the moment — including her mother's voice from the crowd. "I heard it all," Green said, "and I was actually upside down and a referee was ... saying sweet nothings to me as I was upside down." She added that she still doesn't know which referee it was, but praised the encouragement referees give wrestlers mid-match, calling it a meaningful and often overlooked part of the business.

Even hours later and running on no sleep, Green said she was determined not to let the feeling slip away. "I'm still on cloud nine. I'm riding a high," she said. "I'm trying to make the most out of every single second."

Chelsea Green Confirms Broken Orbital Bone After Scary SmackDown Spot, Days Into Her Reign as Interim WWE Women's Champion

Chelsea Green's celebration as WWE's newest champion has taken a painful turn. The "Hot Mess" confirmed on social media that she suffered a broken orbital bone during the August 7 episode of SmackDown, just days after capturing the Interim WWE Women's Championship at SummerSlam. On Friday night's SmackDown from Philadelphia, Green teamed with Women's United States Champion Tiffany Stratton in a tag match against Fatal Influence's Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid for the Women's Tag Team Championship. During the bout, Jacy Jayne blasted Green with a Rolling Encore behind the referee's back, setting up Henley and Reid to hit their Fatal Flaw finisher for the pin — meaning the newly crowned champion ate the loss in her first match with the title. After the bell, Nia Jax and Lash Legend jumped Green and Stratton, with Jax closing the segment holding up the Women's Championship. Wrestling Observer's Bryan Alvarez was first to report that Green had been hurt in the match, though the extent of the injury wasn't immediately known. Green has since confirmed the diagnosis herself, revealing she was taken to the emergency room after the show. "Hey guys, so I was trying to keep this kind of private, but the internet knows everything, so I thought I'd come on here and clear things up. I did get injured last night. Stuff happens. It's live television. It's wrestling. It's an occupational hazard. I ended up in the emergency room and I have a broken orbital bone. It looks amazing, all things considered. It feels awful, but looks pretty amazing. I have no idea what means for me. You know, usually you guys have seen me like play into every single injury. But like this feels different." "Obviously, this feels very different. It feels frustrating. I'm upset. I feel like if didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. So I just need to take a little bit more time to process and to kind of heal from obviously the head trauma that is going on right now. And then we'll see what happens. We're just gonna take it day by day. So world domination continues. We've just had a minor blip. Thank you."

Chelsea Green Teases The Secret Hervice Reunion With Piper Niven

BY SACNILK

Chelsea Green has teased the possibility of bringing back one of her popular WWE concepts after revealing that her former tag team partner Piper Niven is currently recovering from a neck injury. During her recent appearance on XTU Philadelphia, Green was asked whether becoming a champion could lead to the return of 'The Secret Hervice', her partnership with Piper Niven. Green immediately showed her interest in the idea, admitting that she would “love, love, love” to see the duo return. However, she explained that Niven is currently sidelined while recovering from a neck injury and that WWE does not want to rush her comeback. “My tag partner Piper, she's out with a neck injury right now, but she is rehabbing,” Green said. Green stressed that Niven's recovery needs to happen at the right pace rather than being rushed simply to bring the team back together. “She is on the road to recovery, but we can't rush something like that,” Green explained. Interestingly, Green also suggested that the eventual return could be even more effective if WWE waits until fans are no longer expecting it. “Sometimes it's better to bring it back when people are not expecting it,” she said, pointing to WWE's ability to surprise its audience. The comments leave the door open for a potential reunion once Niven is medically ready to return. Green and Niven have previously been closely associated on WWE television, and Green's comments indicate that she remains interested in reviving their partnership. For now, however, Niven's recovery appears to be the priority. Green is currently WWE's reigning champion following her major SummerSlam victory. She is actively competing and promoting her championship reign while continuing to appear on WWE programming. Her current run has already taken her to Philadelphia, where she discussed the importance of beginning her reign in a city with such a deep professional wrestling history. With Green now carrying championship gold and Niven working her way back from injury, a potential return of The Secret Hervice could become an interesting storyline to watch once Piper is cleared to compete.

Chelsea Green Opens Up About WWE Release: 'I've Had That Happen Quite A Few Times'

Chelsea Green's SummerSlam victory was more than just a championship win—it marked the culmination of a journey filled with rejection, injuries, and relentless determination. During a post-SummerSlam interview, the newly crowned Interim WWE Women's Champion spoke openly about the challenges she faced throughout her wrestling career, revealing that being told "no" had become a recurring theme. Green explained that her struggles within WWE dated back more than a decade, recalling several instances when she felt her dream was slipping away. "I've had that happen quite a few times in this company. It started happening in 2014. It happened again in 2015 after Tough Enough. And again, when they told me that they didn't want me to try out, and then they allowed me to, and again when they fired me." The Canadian star admitted that despite every setback, she never stopped believing in herself. That belief eventually led her to take matters into her own hands. Green revealed that nearly four years ago, she sent a message to WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H asking for another opportunity with the company. "It's been almost exactly four years since I texted Triple H and asked for my job back." Looking back, Green said her championship victory validated years of unwavering faith, even when few others believed in her. "Nobody else was believing in me. I had to do it... And for this to happen, it's like, 'Oh my God, I was right the whole time.' It's so satisfying." Green also credited WWE fans for standing by her throughout the highs and lows of her 13-year career, saying their support never wavered even during her darkest moments. Following her emotional SummerSlam victory, Chelsea Green now enters a new chapter as Interim WWE Women's Champion, completing one of WWE's most remarkable comeback stories in recent years.
