Eric Bischoff Blasts Ricochet Over Paul Heyman Response: 'The Guy Is a Goof'

Eric Bischoff has criticized Ricochet for declaring AEW the “greatest wrestling company in the world” while responding to Paul Heyman’s comments about WWE answering to its shareholders. Bischoff argued that Ricochet’s post lacked credibility and did nothing to help either himself or AEW.

The exchange began on the August 17, 2026, episode of Monday Night Raw, when Bron Breakker and Oba Femi confronted each other over who should be considered the future of WWE. Breakker appeared ready to fight Femi immediately, but Heyman stepped between them and stopped the confrontation from becoming an unannounced match. Heyman explained that WWE would not give away a match between Breakker and Femi without advertising it first.

“This is the biggest promotion in the world. We don’t just answer to the people live and the people at home, we answer to shareholders. Here’s what I know after 40 years in this business: When two main eventers are standing in the ring, you don’t do an impromptu match to decide who the future is.”

Heyman then announced that Breakker would face Femi at WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event on September 6. Although he never mentioned AEW by name, some viewers interpreted his comments as a reference to AEW booking heavily promoted matches on weekly television instead of saving them for pay-per-view. Ricochet responded to a social media post containing Heyman’s remarks and presented AEW as a company that places its audience ahead of corporate interests.

“We’re the Greatest Wrestling company in the world. So no we don’t answer to ‘Share Holders’ we answer to OUR fans. Because they’re the ones who deserve it.”

Ricochet’s complete response was reported that Heyman never directly named AEW during the Raw segment. Bischoff addressed the exchange during his 83 Weeks podcast. While the former WCW executive understood the idea of AEW presenting itself as a fan-focused alternative to WWE, he strongly disagreed with Ricochet calling it the greatest wrestling company in the world.

“Ricochet’s a goof. I mean, the guy probably says more stupid s**t per tweet than anybody I know, other than maybe Dave Meltzer. He does it on purpose. Whatever. It doesn’t do him or the company any good because everybody knows it’s a joke.”

Bischoff said Ricochet did not provide any evidence to support his claim about AEW. He believes repeatedly making declarations that cannot be backed up eventually damages the credibility of both the wrestler and the promotion he represents.

“To go out and say it’s the greatest wrestling company in the world—by what data point? Continually saying that kind of thing, it makes everybody involved, including the company, lose more and more credibility. There’s no reason. There’s no upside to it. It’s just whatever. It’s a bad idea.”

Ricochet joined AEW in 2024 after leaving WWE and has since openly promoted the company as a better environment for his career. His response to Heyman continued the public comparison between the two promotions, even though Heyman’s original comments were delivered as part of WWE’s storyline involving Breakker and Femi.
