WWE filed to trademark the name “Bakusai” on June 26, 2026, for use in professional wrestling and related entertainment services. The term now appears to be connected to Shinsuke Nakamura and the wrestler formerly known as Hiromu Takahashi.
The application was submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office under serial number 99908472. WWE included the following description with its filing:
“Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.”
When WWE originally submitted the application, it was unclear whether Bakusai would be a wrestler’s name, a tag team name or a catchphrase. More information arrived during the August 21 episode of SmackDown. Nakamura introduced former NJPW wrestler Hiromu Takahashi as his new partner under the name Kyoki.
The pair warned WWE Tag Team Champions Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga that they were coming after the titles. Nakamura said the combination of strong style and madness would create an explosion before Kyoki ended the video by shouting, “Bakusai!”
The word is Japanese and can roughly be translated as “blasting to pieces” or “explosive destruction.” That meaning fits Kyoki’s previous “Time Bomb” nickname in NJPW and the language WWE used during his introduction. WWE has not formally confirmed whether Bakusai is the official name of Nakamura and Kyoki’s team. It could also be used as their catchphrase or the name of a finishing move.
