Mumbai, August 23 - Ranveer Singh has finally opened up about the making of Dhurandhar and the difficult phase of his career during which the ambitious project came together. In a recent Reliance documentary, the actor described Dhurandhar as a challenging film to make and credited the faith shown by the makers and the Ambani family for helping bring the project to the big screen.
Talking about the film, Ranveer admitted that making Dhurandhar was far from easy, with several challenges involved in mounting the project at such a large scale. However, the team decided to take a creative risk, believing that if the film succeeded, they would be able to create something new and significant. That gamble ultimately paid off spectacularly, with the Dhurandhar franchise emerging as one of the biggest successes in Indian cinema.
Ranveer also spoke candidly about the phase of his career when he came on board Dhurandhar. The actor acknowledged that several of his films were underperforming at the box office at the time, making the faith placed in him by the makers particularly meaningful. He expressed gratitude for the love, support and encouragement he received even when his films were struggling, describing their association as a blessing, an honour and a matter of great fortune.
The comments are particularly significant in hindsight, considering how Dhurandhar transformed Ranveer's commercial standing. Earlier, producer Jyoti Deshpande had revealed that the makers were looking for performers rather than "so-called stars" because the film was already extremely expensive to mount. Ranveer was chosen for his ability to completely transform into a character, with Deshpande having previously worked with him on Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani.
The success of Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge has since turned the franchise into a major box-office phenomenon, with the two films together crossing the 3,000 crore mark worldwide. For Ranveer, the journey represents more than just a blockbuster success—it marks the payoff from a major career gamble taken at a time when both the actor and the ambitious project needed someone to believe in them.
