Mumbai, August 26 - Yash's Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has taken a sensational start at the Hindi box office, with the early trends suggesting that the film could emerge as one of the biggest-ever openers for a South Indian film in the Hindi market. Despite mixed reactions to the Geetu Mohandas directorial, the audience turnout has remained extremely strong, particularly across major centres.
The Hindi version has emerged as the biggest contributor among the film’s language versions during the initial hours. According to the latest numbers, Toxic has already crossed the 50 crore net mark in Hindi, while the film's overall India net collection stood at approximately 83 crore at this point. The scale of the opening becomes even more significant when compared with Yash’s previous blockbuster, KGF: Chapter 2. The 2022 film opened to around 54 crore net in Hindi on Day 1. Toxic is now showing the potential to challenge that benchmark.
What makes the start particularly impressive is that Toxic is achieving these numbers despite divided early reviews. The film has received praise for Yash's performance, action and visuals, while its lengthy runtime and screenplay have drawn criticism from some viewers. With night shows still to be counted, Toxic is firmly on course for a historic opening in Hindi. If the current momentum continues, Yash could not only deliver his biggest Hindi opener but also put the film within striking distance of the opening-day benchmarks established by KGF: Chapter 2.
Toxic is certain to be among the top three biggest South Indian openings in Hindi, with a realistic chance of overtaking KGF: Chapter 2 to score the second-best start in the dubbed version. Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 remains the biggest South Indian opener in Hindi with around 70 crores net, but it was along with KGF 2, largely benefited from being a franchise movie, an advantage which Toxic doesn't have.
