WWE SmackDown recorded an increase in viewership for its August 21, 2026 episode, which featured CM Punk defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens in Toronto.

According to Wrestlenomics, the episode averaged around 1.3 million viewers on USA Network. This was up from the 1.247 million viewers recorded by the August 14 show. SmackDown earned a 0.32 rating among viewers aged 18–49, a seven-percent increase from the previous week’s 0.30 rating.

The show aired live from Scotiabank Arena and opened with Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton meeting inside the ring. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis warned that neither man would receive another Undisputed WWE Championship opportunity if they attacked each other before Sunday Night’s Main Event.

Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga successfully defended the WWE Tag Team Championship against Damian Priest and R-Truth. Haku watched from ringside as his sons retained their titles. Blake Monroe was scheduled to make her main-roster in-ring debut against Giulia, but the match never began. Monroe attacked Giulia before the bell and left her down with the Glamourizer.

Lash Legend defeated Tiffany Stratton before joining Nia Jax in a post-match attack. Chelsea Green ran to the ring with a kendo stick and forced them to retreat. Shinsuke Nakamura also introduced Kyoki, formerly known as Hiromu Takahashi, as his new partner. The pair then made their interest in the WWE Tag Team Championship clear.

In the main event, CM Punk retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens after Sami Zayn interfered. Zayn initially attacked Punk and attempted to help Owens, but KO refused to use the championship as a weapon.

Zayn responded by striking Owens with the title, allowing Punk to hit the Go to Sleep for the victory. Sami then attacked both men after the match and held up the championship. The Punk-Owens title match, Sami’s interference and the confrontation between Rhodes and Orton headlined an episode that improved in both total viewers and the 18–49 demographic.
