Chennai, January 12 - Tamil star Dhanush's long-awaited period action drama Captain Miller has been released in theatres today to take the advantage of Pongal holidays. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the movie did well on its opening day despite competition. ## According to early estimates, Captain Miller scored around 8 crores net in the original Tamil version. The dubbed Hindi version minted an estimated 50 lakh while the Kannada version scored just 5 lakh for all India 8.50+ crores net (10 crores gross) opening. The initial word of mouth seems to be positive which should come into play over the festive weekend. ## Another Tamil release of the day, Sivakarthikeyan's sci-fi Ayalaan scored an estimated 4 crores net (4.75 crores gross) collection on its opening day. Hyderabad, January 12 - The biggest release of Sankranthi 2024, superstar Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram has taken a fantastic start at the box office. Directed by Trivikram, the movie was anyway going to start with a bang due to star power. ## According to early estimates, Guntur Kaaram is heading for a 42+ crores net (50 crores gross) opening in India which is excellent. In AP/TG, the movie scored an estimated 44+ crores gross, which is again huge though it failed to beat Babu's last film "Sarkaru Vaari Paata" which scored 50 crores gross on opening day in AP/TG and 55+ crores all India start (as per estimates, final collection awaited). ## Guntur Kaaram's final opening day gross can be headed to 50+ crores, depending on the performance on the single screens. The opening, however, is still huge and despite the mixed word of mouth, it has set the stage for a big Sanraknthi weekend. ## Another Telugu release of the day, director Prashanth Varma's Hanuman is set to stun everyone in the coming days. The movie had paid previews on January 11 in which it grossed approximately 5.30 crore with around 2.70 lakh footfalls. The word of mouth after previews ensured a fantastic full opening day domestically. ## According to early estimates, Hanuman scored an estimated 7.50+ crores net (9 crores gross) collection in Telugu and Hindi versions. The dubbed Hindi version alone scored around 2 crores net and it could go higher depending on the night shows.## Hanuman, with super positive word of mouth, could become a rage in the coming days not only just in Telugu but also in Hindi. Mumbai, January 12 - Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana has reportedly confirmed to headline the biopic of former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly. "Lootera" director Vikramaditya Motwane has been attached to direct this ambitious film, to be produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg. ## It was reported last year that the supremely talented actor was in talks to play the larger-than-life role of Sourav Ganguly in his biopic and after months of speculations, Ayushmann has now officially signed to headline the film, according to Peepinmoon.com. ## "Producers Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, who are producing this film under their Luv Films banner, have hit a six by bringing together Ayushmann Khurrana and Vikramaditya Motwane. Both have established themselves as formidable forces with an incredible body of work throughout the years", the report says. ## The stakeholders are jubilant to bring Ayushmann Khurrana and Vikramaditya Motwane and the kind of cinematic masterpiece they are set to create together. Los Angeles, January 12 - Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise will reportedly be returning as Captain Pete "Maverick" in the third instalment of his action drama Top Gun franchise.## There have been speculations about whether Tom Cruise will make the next film in his blockbuster franchise, but now, according to a report by Puck News (via comicbook.com), Top Gun 3 is in development at Paramount Pictures with Cruise returning alongside Top Gun: Maverick co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell.## The report further reveals that Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger is currently working on the script, with producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison involved. Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is also expected to return as either director or producer for the same.## While an official announcement hasn't been made yet, the report says "Top Gun 3" could be Tom Cruise's next film after the forthcoming "Mission Impossible 8". It is indeed a major development as Cruise recently signed a deal with Warner Bros. to develop and produce original and franchise theatrical titles which he'll star in. Though it wasn't an exclusive deal it will still keep him busy.## The second instalment of the Top Gun franchise, "Top Gun: Maverick was released in May 2022, and it proved to be one of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters and easily the biggest ever for Tom Cruise with a worldwide gross collection of $1.49 billion (12300 crores). It was the second highest-grossing film of 2022 worldwide after James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water". ## Meanwhile, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is keen on getting Tom Cruise to develop the sequel to his "Edge of Tomorrow", and the chances are high for the same since the actor is in a deal with the studio.
