Israeli origin Hollywood star Gal Gadot has responded to criticism over her casting as Cleopatra in a new film on the life of the Egyptian queen.## In an interview with BBC Arabic, Gadot was reminded that a section of Egyptian viewers were of the opinion that her casting as Queen Cleopatra is another instance of whitewashing in Hollywood, reports eonline.com.## "First of all, if you want to be true to the facts, then Cleopatra was Macedonian. We were looking for a Macedonian actress that could fit Cleopatra. She wasn't there. And I was very passionate about Cleopatra", she replied.## "To me, as a people's lover, and I have friends from across the globe, whether they're Muslims or Christian or Catholic or atheist or Buddhist or Jewish, of course", said the actress, adding, "People are people. And with me, I want to celebrate the legacy of Cleopatra and honor this amazing historic icon that I admire so much".## Gadot pointed out that the film directed by "Wonder Woman" maker Patty Jenkins would tell the "story for the first time through women's eyes, both behind and in front of the camera".## The original "Cleopatra", released in 1963, starred Elizabeth Taylor in the title role along with Richard Burton, and was directed by Joseph L. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approved the 10-teams format from the Indian Premier League 2022. The decision of inclusion of two new teams was taken during the board's 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ahmedabad on Thursday (December 24). ## The decision, agreed in principle, will see the tournament expand into a 10-team event starting from the 2022 season. The IPL Governing Council has been asked to work out the details for the process of inclusion of the two new teams and the structure thereafter.## "Two new teams will be introduced in the 2022 IPL", a Board source told PTI.## In another major development, the Board, in principle, decided to back the ICC's bid for the inclusion of cricket, in the T20 format, in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics "after getting some clarifications from the International Olympic Committee".## Also, it was decided that all first-class players, both men and women, will be suitably compensated even if there are any loss of matches due to the covid-19 pandemic. However, final details on the compensation, which was proposed in the meeting, have to be worked out.## The BCCI plans to get the domestic season underway, after several months' delay, in January with the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 championship.## Stay tuned...

Former captain and opener Sunil Gavaskar has slammed the Indian team management for having "different rules for different players" citing the example of newcomer T Natarajan and skipper Virat Kohli.## This comes after skipper Virat Kohli returns to India after the first test as he was granted paternity leave by BCCI. However, rules became different for T Natarajan who went to Australia straight from the IPL 2020 in the UAE as a replacement for the injured Varun Chakravarthy.## Natarajan missed the birth of his first child last month as he was playing his part for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the tournament, held in the UAE, and was then asked to board the flight to Australia for the T20Is. He was asked to remain in Australia as a net bowler for the Test team which means he will get to return home and see his daughter for the first time only after the four-match series ends on January 19.## Now, Gavaskar raised this point in his latest column for Sportstar.## "T Natarajan had become a father for the first time even as the IPL playoffs were going on. He was asked to stay on for the (Australia) Test series but not as a part of the team but as a net bowler. Imagine that. A match-winner, albeit in another format, being asked to be a net bowler. He will thus return home only after the series ends in the third week of January and get to see his daughter for the first time then. And there is the captain (Virat Kohli) going back after the first Test for the birth of his first child", Gavaskar wrote.## Also Read - 10 Teams IPL Gets Green Signal From BCCI In Annual General Meeting ## Gavaskar also wrote about ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin that the off-spinner has suffered within the Indian team because of his forthrightness and biased treatment by the team management.## "For far too long Ashwin has suffered not for his bowling ability of which only the churlish will have doubts but for his forthrightness and speaking his mind at meetings where most others just nod even if they don't agree", Gavaskar wrote. ## "Any other country would welcome a bowler who has more than 350 Test wickets and not to forget four-Test match centuries, too. However, if Ashwin doesn't take heaps of wickets in one game he is invariably sidelined for the next one. That does not happen to established batsmen though. Even if they fail in one game they get another chance and another and another but for Ashwin, the rules seem to be different," he added.## India suffered a massive defeat after the team unprecedentedly collapsed on just 36 runs in the second innings of the first test before Australia chased down the target with 8 wickets in hand. Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will lead India in the remaining three Tests in Kohli's absence. Veteran actor Ranjeet, known for his roles as an on-screen villain in numerous films, will make his digital debut in a comedy web series. Titled "Becharey", the series also stars Amita Yadav, Prateek Chaudhary, Sambhav Jain, Himanshu Bhatt, and Rahul Datta.## "I was looking at various scripts and ideas. I wanted to do an episodic series first. I really liked the idea of me acting with a young talented team in a story of their generation. I really enjoyed the shoot. It is a comedy and there was freedom to create", said the veteran actor. ## "Becharey" will focus on four boys and a girl struggling in personal and professional lives. Their landlord has a service apartment where people come as guests.## "I play myself in the show. He is sent by the landlord to the house because he needs to stay with some commoners for a role. Former UFC Champion Anthony Pettis is now signed to the Professional Fighters League. The PFL announced the news Wednesday shortly after promotional partner ESPN reported it.## Pettis (24-10) fought out his UFC contract this past Saturday with a unanimous decision victory over Alex Morono at UFC Fight Night 183.## Pettis faced Alex Morono at UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Neal on December 19, 2020. He won the fight via unanimous decision. With this being the last remaining bout on Pettis' UFC contract, Pettis announced on December 22 that he was choosing not to accept a new offer from the UFC and would be testing free agency.## Just one day after announcing he would be testing free agency, Pettis announced on December 23, 2020, that he has signed a multi-fight deal with the Professional Fighters League, and he would be competing as a lightweight in the 2021 season.## No date or first opponent has been listed for Pettis.
