Mumbai, May 8 - It has been a struggling ride for Bollywood star Ajay Devgn's sports biopic Maidaan at the box office. Despite the advantage of the Eid holidays, the movie opened to a poor collection and never bounced back despite the open run. ## Directed by Amit Sharma, Maidaan has topped the 50 crore net mark on its 29th day which is no longer a milestone. Ideally, the current total of Maidaan should have been its opening weekend collection given the Eid holidays but that is a gone case. ## Eid has always been a lucrative festival for Bollywood regarding the box office as Salman Khan films have historically done well on this particular festival, however, 2024 proved different as both big releases, Maidaan and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan bombed without even putting up a fight. ## With the bombing of Maidaan and BMCM along with other films also not doing well, the month of April has been a nightmare for theatres with not much return. Mumbai, May 8 - Karan Johar's Dharma Productions launched the motion posters for the upcoming romantic sports drama film Mr and Mrs Mahi, starring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor in the title roles. The film is directed by Sharan Sharma. ## Mr and Mrs Mahi revolves around the imperfectly perfect partnership between the cricket-loving couple. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta under the banner of Dharma Productions in association with Zee Studios.## This is director Sharan Sharma's second film with Janhvi Kapoor after his debut with Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. It is also Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi's second film together after the horror-comedy Roohi. Mr and Mrs Mahi is scheduled to be released on May 31st after getting postponed from April 2024. Los Angeles, May 8 - The Apes are coming to rule the box office again as Disney's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes looking at one of the best starts in the franchise. ## Directed by Wes Ball, the fourth instalment in the Planet of the Apes reboot the franchise and the tenth film overall is tracking to earn $50 million to $50 million in the domestic (North America) opening weekend, according to Variety.## If the movie opens in the projected lines, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes could aim at the third or possibly second biggest opening in the Rebooted franchise. 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes notched a series-best $72 million opening, followed by 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes opened to $56.2 million and 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes opened to $54.8 million. ## Apart from the domestic, the upcoming movie is tracking to earn $80 million to $90 million at the international box office, for a $130 million to $140 million worldwide debut. The movie has been made on a budget of $160 million. ## The previous three films in the franchise have collectively grossed around $1680 million at the worldwide box office, including Dawn of the Planet of the Apes being the biggest grosser of them with $710 million. Mumbai, May 8 - Netflix may have to wait a bit longer to score a breakout global success from India as its ambitious period drama series Heeramandi - The Diamond Bazaar, created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, failed to make an impact in its opening weekend. ## Made on a budget of over 200 crores, Heeramandi was supposed to be the next big thing for Netflix but it could only manage to score 4.5 million worldwide views and 33 million viewing hours over the 5-day opening weekend. It is among the poorest viewership for Netflix India for the original shows. ## Though the series debuted at number 2 worldwide in the non-English category on Netflix, the critical and audience reception is below average for the show which might make it difficult for it to rebound in the coming weeks.## Despite Netflix's continued efforts to woo Indian audiences, there is not a single show or movie in the streamer's top 10 list, and now Heeramandi is also falling flat. It is already being termed as a big-budget disaster for the OTT giant. ## The series is about the lives of tawaifs in the red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore during the Indian independence movement against the British Raj. Mumbai, May 8 - Aamir Khan's production venture Laapata Ladies is getting much deserving attention after its digital release on Netflix. As word of mouth is spreading, the movie not only scoring high viewership on Netflix but also seeing an upward trend at the box office. ## In its second week (April 29 - May 5), Laapata Ladies was the third most-viewed non-English film on Netflix worldwide with 11.6 million viewing hours from 5.6 million views, jumping by around 160% from the opening weekend. The total viewership of the movie now reached 16.1 million viewing hours from 7.8 million views in just 10 days. ## Laapata Ladies is already one of the most-watched Indian movies on Netflix this year and has emerged as a massive success for the streamer who reportedly bought it for 15 crores. The movie is trending in the top 10 in 20 countries, including number 1 in India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.## At the box office, Laapata Ladies witnessed a jump of over 40% in its 10th weekend from the 9th weekend. The collection of the 10th week has already crossed the 9th week's total in just 5 days which is a positive sign. The total collection of the film is around 18.40 crores. ## Meanwhile, Bollywood star Ajay Devgn's Shaitaan, which is one of the biggest box office hits of the year, debuted at number 4 on Netflix with 6.9 million viewing hours from 3.2 million views. The movie grossed over 200 crores at the worldwide box office and now getting traction on the digital platform as well. Hyderabad, May 7 - Pan India superstar Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran's Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire was one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2023 with over 600 crores at the worldwide box office.## Directed by Prashanth Neel, the ending of Salaar: Ceasfire confirmed its sequel which was officially titled Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam. As the sequel is gearing up to kick-start production by May 2024 end, Prithviraj Sukumaran has provided a massive hint about the same. ## In a recent X/Twitter interaction, the Malayalam star stated that Salaar 2 would have a crossover with another universe. The actor was responding to an X user who wished to see more of Shiva Mannar (one of the characters played by Prithviraj in the film). ## "Of all the stories Prashanth has told me, Shiv Mannar's is probably the coolest. Has an unbelievable crossover with another universe as well", Sukumaran wrote. Los Angeles, May 7 - Disney is set to reduce the number of Marvel movies to two and shows to three per year to avoid the overdose of entertainment. Disney CEO Bob Iger said (via Variety) that the studio is going to reduce MCU output per year to focus on quality. ## "We're slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three. And we're working hard on what that path is", the Disney CEO said during the company's quarterly earnings call Tuesday.## Iger said that the studio is extremely excited about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, be it movies or shows. After having a poor last year with a couple of big flops (a rarity for Marvel) in the form of Ant-Man 3 and The Marvels, the studio is gearing up for the exciting next few years. ## As of now, Marvel Studios has 4 films slated for 2025 release - "Captain America: Brave New World", "Thunderbolts", "The Fantastic Four", and "Blade", and four more Marvel movies slated for 2026, including the fifth "Avengers” movie. ## In 2024, Marvel is releasing just "Deadpool and Wolverine", which is probably the most hyped MCU title in recent times. Mumbai, May 7 - The third instalment of the comedy courtroom drama Jolly LLB reunites Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar, who headlined the first and the second film, respectively. The movie, directed by Subhash Kapoor, recently commenced filming and it will be hitting the big screens in 2025. ## According to the latest reports, Huma Qureshi has joined the cast of Jolly LLB 3. Huma portrayed the character of Pushpa Mishra in the 2017 film Jolly LLB 2 opposite Akshay Kumar and now, she has come on board the third instalment to reprise her role. ## Jolly LLB 3 is said to be a situational comedy set against the backdrop of the Indian Judiciary System. It's essentially a fight between the two Jollys, Akshay Kumar & Arshad Warsi with Saurabh Shukla also returning to reprise his role as the judge. ## The shoot commenced in Ajmer, Rajasthan and Akshay Kumar recently shared a video to announce the movie. Kochi, May 7 - At a time when the Malayalam film industry is flourishing at the box office and is in the best shape for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, the filmmakers are still not able to do full justice to the theatrical business by keeping short window between theatrical and OTT release, including the box office blockbusters.## Fahadh Faasil's action comedy Aavesham has grossed close to 150 crores worldwide. While the movie is still going strong at the box office the makers have already locked a May 9 date for its streaming debut, just 28 days after the theatrical release. ## The movie will be streaming via Amazon Prime Video while it is still showing no sign of slowing down at the box office. The early digital release may cut short Aavesham's full box office potential, leaving another few crores on the table. ## Aavesham is the 4th highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time at the worldwide box office after Manjummel Boys, 2018, and Aadujeevitham. Mumbai, May 6 - SS Rajamouli's epic blockbuster RRR is coming to the big screens again to rescue theatres amid the absence of notable new releases. Starring Jr. NTR, and Ram Charan, RRR is produced by DVV Entertainment. ## On Monday (May 6), Pen Movies which distributed the film in Hindi, announced that RRR will be re-released on May 10, 2024. It will be re-released in the original Telugu language along with the dubbed Hindi version. ## RRR was originally released in March 2022 and was one of the highest-grossing Indian films at the worldwide box office with over 1200 crores gross.
