Bangalore, June 25 - One of the leading production houses, Hombale Films, has partnered with Kleem Productions to announce the Cinematic Universe of their animated franchise, Mahavatar, for the big screen. The series will show the stories of ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu, which will run for the next decade. The studio announced the line-up of 7 films under the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, which kicks off with the first film, Mahavatar Narasimha, slated to hit the big screen in 2025. The MCU will end with Mahavatar Kalki Part 2 in 2037, as the makers also dropped the release plans of all the films. Mumbai, June 24 - Director Nitesh Tiwari's epic Ramayana is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious Indian films with the potential to emerge as the biggest blockbuster ever. The movie features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Yash as Raavan, and Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita. ## Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios and Yash's Monster Mind Creations. In a major development, it seems the official announcement of the epic with a first look teaser is on the way. According to the reports, a 3-minute-long title announcement video of Ramayana was censored on June 23. ## The announcement of the movie was supposed to be made earlier, but was postponed. Ramayana is among the costliest Indian movies ever, with a projected budget of over 1000 crores. It will be released in two parts, with the first part slated to hit the big screen on Diwali 2026 and the second part on Diwali 2027. ## The shoot of Ramayana is happening at a brisk pace. Mumbai, June 24 - Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan's comedy drama Sitaare Zameen Par scored a good hold on Monday after the better-than-expected opening weekend collection at the domestic and worldwide box office with around 96 crores gross. ## Enjoying the superb word of mouth, Sitaare Zameen Par has topped 100 crores worldwide gross collection on Monday, becoming the 8th Bollywood movie of the year to achieve the feat. In India, the film has minted around 80 crores gross, while overseas collection is an estimated 30 crores, for the worldwide cume total of around 110 crores in 4 days. ## Needless to say, Sitaare Zameen Par is one of the surprise box office successes of the year. Released amid low buzz, the film opened to around 13 crores gross, before showing near-perfect 100% growth on Saturday, followed by another solid jump on Sunday as the opening weekend finished around 69 crores in India. ## The good hold on Monday has ensured that SZP may have a solid run; however, there is Ajay Devgn's production horror thriller "Maa", starring Kajol, that is releasing this Friday amid a decent buzz. Hyderabad, June 23 - Director Sekhar Kammula's Telugu-Tamil drama thriller Kuberaa starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna scored an excellent opening weekend, exceeding expectations at the domestic and worldwide box office. ## Kuberaa recorded strong occupancies throughout the weekend, especially for the Telugu version. The movie opened to an excellent collection on Friday, grossing over 17 crores domestically. Of which, the Telugu version generated over 11.50 crores gross, which is around 65% of the total business. ## The opening day biz was driven by strong word of mouth, which translated into bigger numbers on Saturday and Sunday. The film finished the 3-day opening weekend with a gross collection of around 57 crores, including around 40 crores gross in the Telugu version. ## Overseas, Kuberaa grossed an estimated 23 crores, for a worldwide total of around 80 crores. This is the biggest opening weekend for Dhanush and Nagarjuna. Mumbai, June 22 – A recent box office trend has surprised many in the trade, as a film that witnessed strong occupancy across multiple circuits ended its opening weekend with net collections lower than early tracking estimates. This is an unusual scenario, as gross tracking typically falls short of final net by around 10% due to spot bookings, offline sales, and single-screen data, which are not fully captured in advance data systems. ## To explain this better, consider a typical 100-seat screen. In most cinemas, around 10 seats are held offline by the theatre and are not available for online booking. These are either reserved for counter sales or held for operational flexibility. In almost all films with good demand, once 60–70 of the 90 open seats are filled, those remaining 10 held-back seats are also sold via the counter — pushing the final occupancy close to full. Our tracking system accounts for these patterns based on years of observed behavior across thousands of movies. ## However, in this particular case, despite visible occupancy reaching 60–70%, the 10 offline hold seats remained unsold in many shows. This led to a situation where our system counted them (as they usually convert), but the final reported net collections turned out lower than expected. ## To put it in perspective, our tracking system recorded a gross of approximately ₹25 crore for the day. After adjusting for GST, this would normally translate to ₹21–21.5 crore net. For most commercial films, spot bookings and offline sales usually push the final figure even higher, to around ₹23–24 crore. However, the reported net in this case was just ₹20 crore — a significant gap that contradicts historical trends. ## The likely explanation is a large share of the shows being booked in advance through bulk, corporate, or institutional tie-ups — including NGOs, school screenings, or employee events. These bookings fulfill a majority of the theatre’s capacity, but the remaining offline hold seats may not get utilized, as the show is already “occupied” on paper. This breaks the normal behavior pattern our system relies on — where high demand drives complete conversion, including counter sales. ## But if there is no evidence of bulk or corporate booking at such scale, and offline sales still don’t occur despite good occupancy, it leads to a more serious concern — intentional underreporting. ## Though difficult to verify without internal GST and invoicing access, such underreporting has been discussed in industry circles, particularly when it comes to: ## Lowering tax liabilities, ## Reducing revenue-sharing obligations with exhibitors, ## Or managing payout cycles with distributors and partners. ## Such practices are risky, especially with digital ticketing and real-time settlement now common across major chains. However, in certain setups — including some single screens, backend deals, and unmonitored bulk bookings — they can still be executed with limited oversight. ## This is not a failure of tracking logic, but a rare deviation in audience behavior and/or reporting structure. Kochi, June 23 - After the official announcement, director Jeethu Joseph has dropped a major update regarding Drishyam 3. There have been speculations that the Hindi version of this crime suspense thriller will be different, unlike the first two movies, which were remakes of the original Malayalam films. ## During a recent conversation with the Times of India, director Jeethu Joseph, who directed the first two Malayalam versions of Drishyam 3 and will return for the third instalment, said that the script of the upcoming film is nearing completion and contrary to the rumours, he confirmed the plot will be same in all versions. ## "There have been reports that the Hindi version will have a different story, but that's not true. The Hindi film will also be based on my story. Once I complete my script, it will be shared with the Hindi team, who will then adapt it to suit their setting and make suitable cultural changes", the filmmaker said. ## Both Hindi and Malayalam versions of Drishyam 3 will start rolling in October this year. There were rumours that the Malayalam movie would be released before the Hindi, but Jeethu Joseph hinted that both versions may have a simultaneous release. ## "There was a request from their side for a simultaneous release. So, we have been discussing the prospect of releasing the films simultaneously. In this OTT age, they feel that releasing on different dates might reduce the film's impact in other languages", he added. ## It is confirmed that Drishyam 3 Hindi will be directed by Abhishek Pathak and will see Ajay Devgn and the rest of the cast reprising their roles. The weekend biz of the movie is a classic case of the unpredictability of the box office, which can turn the tide either way of expectations. ## SZP, directed by RS Prasanna, scored the opening of a little over 10 crores net, something which would have been considered a disaster start for an Aamir Khan-starrer before the COVID-19 pandemic, but not in the present time, when big openings are no longer guaranteed, even for a superstar's film. ## It was still the lowest opening for Aamir Khan since Ghajini (10.20 crores net), but it can be called decent given the fact that there weren't high expectations from it, as trade was expecting below the double-digit start. However, what followed next is history, which has taken everyone by surprise. ## The film scored almost 100% growth on Saturday, which is the biggest second-day jump for an Indian title, which opened with double-digit numbers. It scored another solid growth on Sunday to clock in around 58-60 crores net opening weekend, which is the biggest opening weekend for an Indian movie, which scored the opening of 10-11 crores net. ## SZP did decently in international markets during the opening weekend, scoring around 27 crores gross, for a worldwide cume total of around 96 crores gross. This is the biggest second-day jump for a Bollywood movie with a double-digit start. ## According to early estimates, the film has scored in the range of 21-22+ crores net on Saturday, which takes its total collection to around 32 crores net in 2 days. The opening weekend, which looked like it might finish in the mid-40s, is now aiming for 55 crores net or might be even higher as pre-sales for Sunday are excellent. ## The huge second-day growth has made up for most of the lost ground of the opening day, which saw a decent start, but it couldn't be called good, given the fact that Aamir's film used to take much bigger openings in the past. Mumbai, June 21 - Ajay Devgn has been among the most successful Bollywood actors in recent times, and his upcoming line-up promises to take things a notch higher for him. The actor has nearly half a dozen films in the pipeline, and one of the hugely anticipated ones is Drishyam 3. ## Drishyam is among the most successful film franchises of Indian cinema with immense repeat value. The third instalment of it was recently confirmed for October 2, 2026, release. According to the report by Pinkvilla, the movie will start its shooting journey exactly a year before its theatrical debut. ## "The Gandhi Jayanti date holds a lot of significance for the Drishyam franchise (those who have watched would know why), and hence, the makers are embarking on the journey for the final Drishyam film from October 2, 2025", says the report. ## Ajay Devgn has already reportedly allotted his dates for Drishyam 3, which will be shot at real locations of Maharashtra, as well as the studio set up during a marathon schedule, spanning 3 months. The script of the film is already locked, and the makers are working on the dialogue draft at the moment. ## The entire cast of the franchise, along with director Abhishek Pathak, will return for the third instalment. The report further states that it's not clear if Drishyam 3 is a remake of the Malayalam film or an original script, as the makers were also working on an original draft at some point in time.
