Chennai, July 10 - Tamil star Suriya's fantasy action thriller Kanguva with director Siva is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated movies of the year and the makers are leaving no stone unturned to make it a proper Pan India tentpole. ## The makers have been careful about Kanguva's release and were looking to bring it on the big screen after Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 - The Rule which is scheduled to release on December 6 this year. However, the success of the recently released Prabhas-fronted sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD changed everything. ## During a recent interview, Kanguva producer KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green opened up that he was looking to postpone the movie further to the next year but then Kalki 2898 AD happened and made him change his mind due to its strong box office performance in North India. ## "I didn't sleep for three days ahead of Kalki 2898 AD's release. Because its success or failure will directly impact every South film released in the North. The trust of the audience and trade would have gone away from South films that are released in Hindi if Kalki hadn't worked", the filmmaker told Galatta Plus. ## Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, has been a force at the Hindi box office. It has already become the biggest grosser of the year in Hindi with over 225 crores net collection and still going strong while worldwide, the movie is nearing 900 crores gross.## "I announced the release date for Kanguva the day Kalki was released after it started performing well in Hindi-speaking states. Otherwise, I would have waited for the release of Pushpa 2 to bring back the positivity. As a producer, I need to find the right time to release, devise the right promotional strategy, and ensure the quality of the content", KE Gnanavel Raja added.## Kanguva is scheduled to be released on October 10, 2024, in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. Los Angeles, July 10 - After becoming the first billion-dollar grosser of the year, Pixar's mega-hit Inside Out 2 climbs another milestone as it has become the highest-grossing movie of Pixar Animation Studio at the global box office. ## The sequel to Inside Out (2015) has been a box-office phenomenon since its debut on June 14 and is currently in the 4th week of its run. On its 4th Tuesday, IO2 has outgrossed Incredibles 2 ($1.24 billion) to become the biggest Pixar blockbuster globally. ## After surpassing Incredibles 2, Inside Out 2 has also become the 4th highest-grossing animated movie of all time, behind Frozen 2 ($1.45 billion), The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.36 billion), and Frozen ($1.29 billion). IO2 is projected to finish its run with $1.45+ billion, which will make it the biggest animated grosser of all time. ## As said, IO2 became the first billion-dollar grosser since Margot Robbie's Barbie in July 2023. It also scored the biggest opening of the year at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office after crushing the pre-release box office projections with a mighty $294 million worldwide opening weekend.## Inside Out (2015) did unthinkable to beat the projection as the box office hadn't been at its best this year for Hollywood. New Delhi, July 10 - Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa's romantic-comedy Jatt and Juliet 3 has become the highest-grossing Punjabi film at the overseas box office, beating Gippy Grewal's Carry On Jatt 3. ## Directed by Jagdeep Sidhu, Jatt & Juliet 3 has grossed an estimated 48+ crores in international markets in 13 days so far, outgrossing the entire overseas run of COJ3's 46 crores to become the biggest non-domestic Punjabi title of all-time. ## The worldwide collection of J&J3 is approximately 85 crores gross with over 60% contribution from the overseas collection driven by North America with approximately $3 million (25 crores). COJ3, which is the only 100 crores Punjabi grosser, has had a domestic and overseas collection ratio of 55% and 45%. ## Depending on how the movie performs in the third weekend, Jatt and Juliet 3 has a chance to become the second Punjabi film to enter the 100 crores club at the worldwide box office. Mumbai, July 10 - Bollywood star Varun Dhawan has reunited with his director father David Dhawan for a romantic comedy for the 4th time, after Main Tera Hero, Judwaa 2, and Coolie No.1. Unlike the previous three films, the upcoming one is an original script. ## Recently, it was revealed that Mrunal Thakur and Sreeleela (Bollywood debut) would be playing the female lead roles, and now, the quirky title of the movie has also been revealed as the shoot has commenced today in Mumbai. ## According to the Pinkvilla report, the romantic comic caper has been titled, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai which is said to be the sync of the script. It has already been announced to be released on October 2, 2025. It is produced by Ramesh Taurani under the banner of Tips Films.## "It's a fun family entertainer with the love triangle of the trio at the centre. David Dhawan has cracked a concept that’s fresh and original, and is confident to recreate the magic of comedies on the big screen again", says the report. ## It is also reported that the makers are on the verge of bringing together some of the most celebrated comic artists on the screen alongside the lead trio. Mumbai, July 10 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar-fronted Sarfira will reportedly host special fan screenings across 7 Indian cities on July 12, on the day of the film's official release.## Directed by Sudha Kongara, the biographical drama film is the remake of actor Suriya's Tami movie Soorarai Pottru, also directed by Kongara. The fan screenings will reportedly take place in Mumbai, Pune, Ahmadabad, Delhi, Indore, Ludhiana, and Jaipur. ## Meanwhile, ahead of the release, the team has had a media screening for Sarfira on July 9. Hyderabad, July 10 - Kalki 2898 AD is holding decently in the second week and is marching towards 900 crores club after surpassing 850 crores gross collection in just 13 days at the worldwide box office, by far the biggest Indian grosser of the year. ## Directed by Nag Ashwin, the sci-fi epic remained at over 10 crores mark for 13 consecutive days now, taking its total collection to an estimated 630 crores gross collection at the domestic box office. Overseas, the Prabhas-starrer has minted an estimated 230 crores, for 860 crores worldwide cume in 13 days. ## Kalki 2898 AD is expected to top 900 crores worldwide gross total by the third Saturday, in 17 days. It has already become the 10th highest-grossing Indian film globally and will also become the 10th Indian title to top 900 crores worldwide gross. The movie will be aiming to finish its run around or over 1000 crores gross. ## Kalki 2898 AD is the first instalment in a planned Kalki Cinematic Universe. Mumbai, July 9 - Kalki 2898 AD continues to put a solid show at the Hindi box office is approaching 250 crores net sooner than expected. The movie had a solid hold on the second Monday despite the weather challenges for approximately 6.50 crores net. ## The Prabhas-fronted sci-fi epic is showing a drop of around 10% on its second Tuesday (13th day) for an estimated 5.50-6 crores net, pushing the total Hindi collection to 224.50+ crores in 13 days. The second week is heading for +/- 72 crores net which will take its 2 weeks total collection to around 235 crores. ## Kalki 2898 AD will enter the 250 crores net club in its third weekend in Hindi and depending on how the new releases perform, it will look to get nearer SS Rajamouli's RRR (272.80 crores net approx.) by the end of the third week before crossing it to become the third biggest South Indian grosser in Hindi. ## In all versions, Kalki 2898 AD is expected to score an estimated 10.50+ crores gross collection on its second Tuesday which will take its total domestic gross to around 630 crores in 13 days. Tokyo, July 9 - Director Prashanth Neel's action drama Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire scored the third biggest opening weekend for an Indian movie at the Japan box office. The Prabhas-fronted movie was released on July 5, six months after it debuted in December 2023. ## According to a trade report, Salaar grossed ¥18.2 million (Rs. 95 lakh) in the first weekend, playing at nearly 200 locations. It has beaten Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan which grossed JPY 14.6 million in the opening weekend in Japan to score the third biggest start for an Indian title. ## SS Rajamouli's RRR starring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan remains the biggest Indian opener in the anime country with JPY 44 million in 2022, followed by Prabhas' Saaho with JPY 23 million. Mumbai, July 9 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who is gearing up for the release of Sarfira on July 12, will reportedly play a cameo appearance in the highly-anticipated Shraddha Kapoor-starrer horror-comedy Stree 2, which will collide with his Khel Khel Mein on August 15. ## According to the report by Hindustan Times, a source revealed, "Yes it's true. Akshay has a cameo in the Rajkummar Rao - Shraddha Kapoor starrer. The makers felt his comedy timing is impeccable, and his presence even for a few minutes will elevate that particular sequence". ## Interestingly, Akshay's Khel Khel Mein is also a comedy entertainer and if the reports about him playing a cameo in Stree 2 are true, it will be a double bonanza for his fans who want to see him in comedy roles. The movie is directed by Siva whose last directorial venture was superstar Rajinikanth's Annaatthe (2021).## As Kanguva is gearing up for the Pan India release on October 10 this year, producer K. E. Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green, confirmed in a recent interview that there will be two parts of Kanguva. The filmmaker revealed that they wrote the story for both parts and finished shooting for the first one. ## The filmmaker further revealed that Kanguva Part 1 was shot in over 185 days and the shoot for the second part will start at the end of 2025 or early 2026 as the makers are planning to release in January or summer of 2027. He also said that they have something exciting for the audience at the end of the first part to hook them for the sequel. ## Kanguva is the story of a warrior who lived in 1678 and died due to a disease.
