Kartik Aaryan to begin filming Captain India in September 2026 with director Shimit Amin

Kartik Aaryan is preparing for a highly productive period over the next two years, with several major projects moving into active production. According to a confirmed update from Lets Cinema, the actor’s ambitious project, Captain India, is officially set to begin filming in September 2026. This film has generated considerable interest because it marks the return of acclaimed director Shimit Amin. Amin, who is widely respected for his work on Chak De! India and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, is returning to feature film direction after a seventeen-year hiatus. His involvement suggests a grounded and meticulous approach to a story rooted in real-life events. The film is being positioned as an intense action-drama based on heroic humanitarian rescue missions. In a significant departure from his usual romantic-comedy roles, Kartik will portray an Air Force Pilot who leads these high-stakes operations. Interestingly, the core idea for the film was originally pitched by Kartik himself to the director and producers, showing a deep personal investment in the story. The project is being produced by Harman Baweja under Baweja Studios, along with T-Series and Midnight Chai Films. To ensure the scale of the rescue mission is captured accurately, the production team has planned a schedule across various locations in India and Morocco, with a theatrical release date locked for August 13, 2027, just in time for the Independence Day holiday weekend. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) While Captain India is a major highlight, it is only one part of Kartik's crowded calendar spanning 2026 and 2027. His upcoming creature comedy, Naagzilla (Naag Lok Ka Pehla Kaand), produced by Dharma Productions, has seen a shift in its timeline. Originally slated for an August 2026 release, the film is now scheduled to arrive in cinemas on February 12, 2027, strategically placed just ahead of the Valentine's Day weekend. In this fantasy project, the actor takes on the unconventional role of a shape-shifting snake creature. Meanwhile, work is progressing quickly on Anurag Basu's musical romance, reportedly titled Tu Meri Zindagi Hai. His co-star Sreeleela recently resumed filming her crucial portions in Mumbai, and reports indicate that Kartik has already completed a significant part of his shooting schedule for this movie. Looking further ahead, the actor seems to be heading toward a significant box-office onslaught in 2027. If current timelines hold, he could have three to four theatrical releases in that year alone. This packed schedule includes the February launch of Naagzilla followed by Captain India in August, alongside his musical collaboration with Anurag Basu. For Captain India specifically, the journey to the filming stage has seen its share of changes since its initial announcement in 2021 with director Hansal Mehta. However, with the script now locked and Shimit Amin taking the helm, the project is finally prepared to move from pre-production to active filming next month.

Awarapan 2 vs Batwara 1947 Box Office: Emraan Hashmi Delivers Career Biggest Opening As Sunny Deol's Period Drama Takes A Low Start Bollywood

Awarapan 2 vs Batwara 1947 Box Office: Emraan Hashmi Delivers Career Biggest Opening As Sunny Deol's Period Drama Takes A Low Start

Mumbai, August 15 - The Independence Day weekend witnessed a major Bollywood box office clash between Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 and Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947, and the former has emerged as the clear winner on opening day. The sequel to the 2007 cult favourite has delivered a career-best start for Emraan Hashmi, while Sunny Deol's Partition drama has struggled to convert the patriotic weekend into a strong theatrical opening. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Awarapan 2 opened at around 22 crore net (updated) in India on Friday, marking the biggest opening of Emraan Hashmi's career. The film registered an overall theatre occupancy of around 45.73%, with the night shows witnessing particularly strong momentum. Its worldwide gross stood at approximately 29 crore on Day 1, giving the film a strong platform heading into the Independence Day holiday. In comparison, Batwara 1947 collected only around 5.75 crore net in India on its opening day. The Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta-starrer was expected to benefit from the Independence Day period and its patriotic theme. Still, it could not generate sufficient momentum at the box office. The film's opening is roughly one-fourth of Awarapan 2's Day 1 collection, highlighting the massive gap between the two releases. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The result is particularly significant because Batwara 1947 had the advantage of Sunny Deol's strong patriotic image and a release timed perfectly around Independence Day. However, Awarapan 2 benefited enormously from nostalgia surrounding the original film, Emraan Hashmi's comeback appeal and strong pre-release buzz. The sequel had already established a substantial lead in advance booking before release, and that advantage translated directly into opening-day numbers. The box office battle is far from over, though. August 15 is a major national holiday, and Batwara 1947 has an opportunity to improve its collections through walk-ins and positive word of mouth. Awarapan 2, meanwhile, enters the holiday with a huge lead and is now strongly positioned to dominate the Independence Day weekend. For Emraan Hashmi, this is a major career revival, while Sunny Deol's film faces the challenge of recovering from a surprisingly low start.

Awarapan 2 vs Batwara 1947 Box Office: Emraan Hashmi's Actioner Takes A Big Lead Over Sunny Deol's Partition Drama

Mumbai, August 14 - The Independence Day weekend box office battle between Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 and Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947 is turning into a one-sided affair with the former taking a big lead over Deol's period drama in the morning shows on its opening day. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The Emraan Hashmi-led actioner has opened up a significant lead in advance bookings. The sequel clocked over 11 crore in advance sales, while Batwara 1947 has managed approximately 4+ crore. This gave Awarapan 2 a lead of more than 7 crore and already put it well ahead of the Sunny Deol starrer even before the first shows begin. The strong response to Awarapan 2 can be attributed to the cult following of the 2007 original, with Emraan Hashmi's return to the franchise generating considerable nostalgia. The film is also positioned as a dark romantic actioner, giving it a different appeal from Batwara 1947, a period drama centred on the Partition era. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Considering the initial response, Awarapan 2 is expected to score almost 3x that of Batwara 1947 and with the positive word of mouth coming from the initial shows sets up the stage for the massive opening weekend for Rajkumar Santoshi's directorial, which could be well over 75 crores net. For Batwara 1947, the slower advance sales are certainly a concern, particularly given Sunny Deol's post-Gadar 2 box office standing. However, the Rajkumar Santoshi-directed film has a strong Independence Day setting, and if the word of mouth is positive, it has the potential to do well at the box office. But as things stand, Awarapan 2 has taken a commanding lead in the opening-day battle and is expected to be the clear winner in the long run.

Emraan Hashmi Starrer Awarapan 2 Surpasses Pre Sales of Housefull 5 and Shaitaan to Hit Major Ticket Milestone

The anticipation for Emraan Hashmi's return to one of his most iconic roles is translating into significant numbers at the box office. As of 9 pm on the final day before its release, Awarapan 2 has shown a very strong momentum in advance bookings, indicating that the nostalgia for the 2007 prequel combined with a fresh narrative is striking a chord with the audience. The film has officially become the 17th Bollywood release since August last year to cross the 200,000 ticket sales mark on BookMyShow during its pre-sale period. Looking at the hourly trends on the primary booking platform, the movie saw a sharp spike in the evening, with approximately 11,570 tickets sold between 8 pm and 9 pm alone. This brings the total tickets sold on the platform between 7 am and 9 pm today to nearly 88,000. When we look at the progress over the last few days, the growth has been consistent. Starting with about 7,000 tickets on August 10, the volume jumped to nearly 36,000 on August 11, and reached over 65,000 by August 12, culminating in a pre-release total of more than 108,000 tickets on the platform prior to the final day's surge. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In terms of national cinema chains, the movie has comfortably crossed a major milestone. Over 1 lakh tickets were sold for the opening day in advance across the three major multiplex circuits. The total gross from these chains stands at approximately β‚Ή4.0 Cr. Breaking this down with rounded figures, PVR has contributed significantly with a gross of roughly β‚Ή2.0 Cr from about 51,000 tickets. Inox followed with nearly β‚Ή1.2 Cr from approximately 35,000 tickets, while Cinepolis added about β‚Ή0.75 Cr from over 20,000 tickets. These figures place Awarapan 2 ahead of several recent major releases like Housefull 5, Shaitaan, and Raid 2 in terms of final pre-sales volume. On an all-India level, the advance booking gross for Day 1 has reached approximately β‚Ή5.86 Cr across 8,619 shows, representing nearly 1.94 lakh tickets sold. If we include blocked seats, the total gross figure climbs to roughly β‚Ή8.63 Cr. These numbers reflect a wide interest in the Hindi-speaking markets, where the character of Shivam has maintained a cult following for nearly two decades. The average ticket price has been maintained at around β‚Ή240, ensuring accessibility for a broad range of the actor's fanbase. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The success of these advance bookings is deeply rooted in the legacy of the original 2007 film directed by Mohit Suri. The first Awarapan was a turning point in Emraan Hashmi's career, showcasing his range as an intense dramatic actor beyond his serial kisser image. Known for its hauntingly beautiful soundtrack and the themes of tragic love and redemption, the film became a cult classic over the years. This sequel, which sees Hashmi returning to the gritty, emotional world of the franchise, has managed to tap into that established emotional connection, driving high expectations for the opening day performance. With the final pre-release data now in, Awarapan 2 is positioned for a healthy start at the box office. Having surpassed the final pre-sales of other notable sequels and star-led projects like Welcome To The Jungle and Cocktail 2, the film has proven that there is still a massive appetite for grounded, atmospheric action-dramas. All eyes will now be on the spot bookings and early reviews tomorrow to see if the film can sustain this impressive early momentum throughout the weekend.

Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tamannaah Bhatia Starrer V Shantaram Biopic Pushed to 2027 as Director Denies Shelving Rumors

The biographical film based on the life of the legendary filmmaker V. Shantaram has been generating a lot of curiosity since its announcement, especially with the interesting casting of Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tamannaah Bhatia. While the project was originally expected to start its production cycle earlier this year in April, the lack of updates led to several rumors suggesting the film might have been shelved. However, new information has clarified that the project is very much on track, though the timeline has shifted significantly. According to an exclusive report by Bollywood Hungama, the film's director, Abhijeet Shirish Deshpande, has confirmed that the production has now been moved to 2027. The primary reason for this delay was a two-month setback in the initial planning stages, which eventually threw the entire shooting schedule out of sync. Since the team wanted to avoid the complications of the monsoon season for their outdoor sequences, they decided it was better to wait for a fresh window next year rather than rushing into a disjointed production. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The revised plan is to now commence shooting in April 2027. This timeline is strategically designed to allow the crew to finish all the necessary outdoor sequences first, before utilizing the subsequent monsoon months for interior shoots. Beyond the logistical benefits, the delay is also being used to strengthen the ensemble. The filmmaker revealed that they are currently in the process of adding a few more significant names to the cast to join Siddhant and Tamannaah, who will be portraying Shantaram and his second wife, the actress Jayashree, respectively. For those familiar with Indian cinema history, this biopic is quite an ambitious undertaking. It aims to chronicle Shantaram’s remarkable journey through the most transformative eras of filmmaking, starting from the silent era and moving into the advent of sound and color. The narrative will highlight his evolution as a visionary who directed iconic films like Do Aankhen Barah Haath, Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani, and Pinjara. For Siddhant Chaturvedi, this marks his first biographical role, and he has previously expressed how deeply the filmmaker's perseverance and artistic legacy have moved him during his research for the character. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) While the wait for the film has become a bit longer, the decision to delay seems to be a calculated move to ensure the project gets the scale and precision a figure like V. Shantaram deserves. By aligning the shooting schedule with the weather and refining the cast, the makers are positioning this biopic to be a meticulous tribute to one of India’s most influential cinematic pioneers. Fans of historical dramas will now have to keep an eye out for 2027 to see this visionary’s life unfold on the big screen.

Ramayana Part 1 Goes To China, But Can It Create Dangal-like Storm In a Changed Scenario? Bollywood

Ramayana Part 1 Goes To China, But Can It Create Dangal-like Storm In a Changed Scenario?

Mumbai, August 13 - Director Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana Part 1 is expanding its theatrical footprint to China, marking another major step in the makers' ambitious global release strategy. The Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash starrer is reportedly confirmed for a November release in the Chinese market, where it will be presented under the title Ramayana: The Legend of the Prince. The China release could prove to be particularly significant for the film, given how massive it can be for an Indian title. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) China is obviously not a regular market for Indian cinema. Only a handful of Indian films have managed to make a significant impact there, with Dangal being the biggest example. The Aamir Khan starrer turned into an unprecedented phenomenon, earning more than $200 million in China and demonstrating just how massive the market can become when an Indian film genuinely connects with Chinese audiences. The challenge for Ramayana is that the Chinese theatrical landscape has changed considerably since Dangal. Domestic productions now dominate the market, with Chinese films accounting for more than 80% of the country's total box office in 2025. The trend has continued into 2026, with domestic titles commanding the majority of the market share, making it increasingly difficult for foreign films to break through. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) But this is where content becomes the biggest factor. China's dominance of domestic cinema doesn't mean foreign films cannot succeed; it simply means that a film has to give audiences a strong reason to choose it. Recent exceptions such as Zootopia 2 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day have shown that a foreign production can still become a massive hit when it strikes the right chord with Chinese audiences. For Ramayana, the opportunity is therefore enormous, but so is the uncertainty. The film has the scale, epicness and universal themes of good versus evil, family, sacrifice and duty that could potentially travel beyond India. If those elements resonate with Chinese audiences, the ceiling could be extremely high. After all, Dangal proved that an Indian film can overcome the limitations of the market and create genuine hysteria in China when the content clicks. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) A Dangal-like phenomenon is obviously a massive ask, especially in today's more domestically dominated Chinese market. But the beauty of the China opportunity is that Ramayana doesn't necessarily need to perform like a conventional foreign release. If the film gets the Chinese audience talking and generates strong word of mouth, the market could transform from being just another overseas territory into one of the biggest contributors to its worldwide box office. In China, it will ultimately come down to one thing β€” whether Ramayana clicks. If it does, the sky could be the limit.

Awarapan 2 Box Office Projection (Day 1): Emraan Hashmi's Actioner Eyes 20 Crore Net Opening Bollywood

Awarapan 2 Box Office Projection (Day 1): Emraan Hashmi's Actioner Eyes 20 Crore Net Opening

Mumbai, August 13 - Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani's Awarapan 2 is heading for a strong opening at the domestic box office, with the film's booking indicating that it could significantly outperform initial trade expectations. The Nitin Kakkar-directed action thriller, arriving in cinemas on August 14, has benefited from strong audience interest in the Awarapan brand and is currently leading the Independence Day clash against Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) As per the latest advance booking data, Awarapan 2 has already sold over 1.25 lakh tickets for Day 1, generating 4 crore gross without blocked seats. Including blocked seats, the pre-sales have crossed 6 crore and are expected to be around 10 crore before the first show begins, giving the film a strong base ahead of its theatrical release. Based on the current momentum, Awarapan 2 is now targeting an opening in the twenty crore net range, which is considerably higher than earlier trade estimates of around twelve to fifteen crore and would give Emraan Hashmi the biggest solo opening of his career. It will also cross the lifetime domestic and worldwide gross of the original Awarapan (~13 crore gross) with only its domestic opening day collection. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The biggest advantage for Awarapan 2 is the Independence Day holiday weekend, which gives the film an extended four-day window to capitalise on the initial buzz. Its direct competition, Batwara 1947, is currently trailing significantly in bookings, allowing the Emraan Hashmi-led film to dominate the Hindi market during the crucial opening weekend. If Awarapan 2 manages to open on the projected lines, it would mark a remarkable turnaround for the franchise, considering the original Awarapan eventually developed a cult following despite its modest theatrical performance. More importantly, such an opening would put the sequel in a strong position to capitalise on the Independence Day holiday and potentially emerge as one of the surprise box office performers of August 2026.

Ramayana Part 1 Titled as Ramayana The Legend of the Prince in China Set for Global Release on November 6

The release strategy for Nitesh Tiwari’s much-discussed epic, Ramayana: Part 1, has taken an interesting turn as the makers prepare for a massive global rollout. In a departure from the usual practice of domestic-first releases, the international release date for the film has been fixated for November 6, 2026. Audiences in India will get to see the movie two days later, with the domestic launch scheduled for November 8, 2026. A major part of this international strategy involves a significant release in China. Sony Pictures, the studio handling the international distribution, recently revealed the official title for the film in China through their Weibo account. Titled Ramayana: The Legend of the Prince, the movie is being promoted by highlighting director Nitesh Tiwari's connection to Dangal. Since Dangal remains one of the most successful Indian films ever released in China, Sony is clearly using that established goodwill to build anticipation for this mythological project among Chinese moviegoers. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The core narrative follows the classic arc of the demon king Ravana causing chaos across the three realms, leading Lord Vishnu to descend in the incarnation of Rama to protect all beings. The film focuses on the fourteen-year exile, the abduction of Sita, and the subsequent battle that erupts between the vengeful king and the guardian deity. To elevate this grand narrative, the makers have brought on legendary composer Hans Zimmer to provide the score. The collaboration between Zimmer and Tiwari is one of the most analyzed aspects of the project, as fans are curious to see how a global soundscape fits an Indian epic. In terms of casting, the film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita. The role of the formidable antagonist, Ravana, is played by Yash, whose involvement has been a major draw for the project. Other notable cast members include Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. This ensemble brings together stars from different regional industries, supporting the film's goal of being a truly pan-Indian and global event. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) However, the journey toward the big screen has been met with a mixed reception following the initial glimpses of the film. While many viewers have praised the casting choices and the ambitious scale, there has been significant debate regarding the visual effects. Some fans have expressed concerns over the CGI quality, drawing unfavorable comparisons to previous mythological films that failed to deliver on the visual front. There is a visible divide between those who appreciate the modern, sleek aesthetic and those who feel that the digital work might take away from the traditional, grounded feel of the Ramayana story. Despite these varying opinions, the film remains one of the most expensive and ambitious projects ever attempted in Indian cinema. With Sony Pictures managing a massive global rollout and the weight of a legendary story behind it, Ramayana: Part 1 is positioned as a potential landmark release. The coming months will be crucial for the production team as they aim to build momentum for what is expected to be one of the biggest box office events of 2026.

Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav Reunite for Malamaal Weekly 2 with New Addition Elvish Yadav

Fans of classic Bollywood comedies have a reason to celebrate as the much-anticipated sequel to the 2006 hit Malamaal Weekly is finally taking shape. According to an exclusive report by Bollywood Hungama, the project has secured its primary male leads, bringing back a beloved trio while adding a fresh face to the mix. The sequel aims to recapture the chaotic energy that made the original a favorite among audiences two decades ago. The core of the original film featured the impeccable comic timing of Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav, and both veterans are now officially locked in to return. Joining them is Riteish Deshmukh, who is set to lead the film once again. While sources close to the production indicate that Riteish is currently fine-tuning the details and reading the final script before formalizing the paperwork, the verbal confirmation is already in place. In an interesting casting move, popular YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT Season 2 winner Elvish Yadav has been brought on board as a principal cast member. This will mark his second venture into mainstream Bollywood, following his upcoming debut in an action project. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The female cast is equally impressive and adds significant star power to the ensemble. As previously revealed by Bollywood Hungama, the sequel will feature Parineeti Chopra, Raveena Tandon, and Shilpa Shirodkar in pivotal roles. This blend of seasoned actors and contemporary stars suggests that the makers are looking to appeal to a wide demographic, balancing nostalgia with modern-day popularity. On the creative side, the film will be helmed by Amit Joshi, who recently gained attention for co-directing the robotic rom-com Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. Joshi is currently in the process of polishing the script, with plans to start the production cycle by November 2026. While Malamaal Weekly 2 will offer a completely new storyline, it intends to stay true to the thematic roots of its predecessor. The narrative will once again focus on ordinary small-town residents caught in a web of poverty, greed, and the sudden prospect of wealth, leading to a classic comedy of errors. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The decision to revisit this franchise is backed by the impressive commercial legacy of the first film. Released in 2006, Malamaal Weekly was a definitive box office success, earning a superhit verdict from trade analysts. The movie collected a net total of approximately β‚Ή26.70 Cr in India, with the total India gross reaching around β‚Ή36.05 Cr. On the global stage, it performed quite well for its time, securing roughly β‚Ή5.65 Cr from overseas markets and pushing its worldwide gross to a solid β‚Ή41.70 Cr. Its simple yet effective premise of villagers fighting over a lottery ticket struck such a chord that it was eventually remade in several regional languages, including Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Beyond its theatrical run, the film achieved a legendary status on television that few movies can boast of. For over a decade, channels like Set Max and Goldmines broadcasted the movie almost every week, turning it into a staple for Indian households. It consistently delivered massive TRP ratings for networks, eventually becoming one of the most-watched Hindi comedies on the small screen. This enduring television legacy, often compared to other cult classics like Sooryavansham and Nayak, ensured that the characters and their antics remained fresh in the public memory long after the film left the cinema halls. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The decision to revisit this franchise makes sense when looking at the legacy of the 2006 original. Directed by Priyadarshan, Malamaal Weekly was a significant box office success and saw itself remade in several regional languages including Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Its simple yet effective premise of villagers fighting over a lottery ticket struck a chord with the masses. By retaining the comic spirit and the original lead trio, the sequel seems positioned to tap into that established goodwill while offering a fresh perspective for the current generation of cinema-goers.

Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi Revive Batwara 1947 After a Sixteen Year Battle Against Industry Skepticism

Batwara 1947 is scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 14, 2026, ending a professional hiatus between Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi that dates back to the mid-nineties. While the duo was once the most formidable force in Hindi cinema with classics like Ghayal and Damini, the journey of this specific project has been a difficult one, spanning roughly 16 years of development hell and industry skepticism. The 16-year timeline began around 2010 when the duo first attempted to pitch Batwara 1947 to major studios. At that time, both the actor and the director were navigating a difficult phase in their careers, marked by several box-office disappointments. This led to a harsh industry perception where the pairing was labeled as not saleable. Financiers were hesitant to back a veteran team that had not delivered a major commercial success in years, and the project was effectively shelved as no big banner was willing to take the risk. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) A significant hurdle was the nature of the script itself. While producers were pressuring Sunny Deol to stick to loud, mass-market action films, Batwara 1947 was envisioned as a realistic period drama based on a celebrated play about the emotional trauma of the Partition. Studios viewed a serious, art-house leaning narrative as a massive financial risk, especially when the lead star was struggling with his theatrical pull. For over a decade, the project remained stagnant because the market demanded a version of Sunny Deol that didn't align with the director's grounded vision. The actor's filmography during this 16-year period reflected this struggle. Projects like Singh Saab the Great and his own directorial effort Ghayal Once Again underperformed at the box office. Later films like Poster Boys and Blank were also commercially disappointing, further fueling the narrative that his era as a bankable lead was fading. Without a major hit to his name, the ambitious Batwara 1947 appeared to be a lost cause, existing only in trade discussions rather than active production. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The trajectory shifted entirely with the massive success of Gadar 2, which proved there was still a huge, loyal audience for the veteran actor. This turnaround was further solidified earlier this year with the release of Border 2, which also performed exceptionally well at the box office. These consecutive hits restored his position as a bankable superstar, providing the necessary commercial momentum to revive Batwara 1947 after years of stagnation. Recognizing this renewed market demand, Aamir Khan stepped in under his banner to finance the project, finally allowing the director the creative independence to pursue a realistic and serious tone without the pressure of typical commercial tropes. Batwara 1947 faces a direct clash with Awarapan 2, which is currently leading the race in terms of advance bookings. While the competitor has secured a stronger start with initial ticket sales, the Sunny Deol starrer is positioned as a grounded, realistic drama that might take a bit longer to find its full momentum. Since the film avoids the loud tropes of a typical commercial entertainer, it will be solely dependent on positive word of mouth to prove its worth and draw in the larger family audience over the holiday weekend. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) With Aamir Khan backing the project, the production scale was elevated without compromising the artistic integrity of the story. This allowed for a realistic recreation of the 1947 landscape and a cast that prioritized performance over mass appeal, including the return of Preity Zinta. The film is now a reality because a historic box-office turnaround revived a script that had been rejected for over a decade.

Awarapan 2 Dominates Batwara 1947 in 8 PM Advance Booking Update; Emraan Hashmi Sequel Eyes Strong Independence Day Opening

The Independence Day box office is heating up, and we now have a much clearer picture of how the high-stakes clash between Emraan Hashmis Awarapan 2 and Sunny Deols Batwara 1947 is unfolding. As of 8:00 PM tonight, August 11, the advance booking numbers suggest that the 19-year rematch between these two veteran stars is leaning heavily in favor of the Awarapan sequel. While Sunny Deols Apne beat the original Awarapan back in 2007, the cult following of Shivam Pandit seems to be driving a massive wave of momentum for Hashmi this time around. If we look at the national cinema chainsβ€”PVR, INOX, and Cinepolisβ€”Awarapan 2 is currently leading the race by a significant margin. By the 8:00 PM update, the film had already sold around 20,300 tickets, resulting in a total gross of roughly 86 lakh across more than 1,140 shows. PVR has been the primary driver, accounting for roughly 10,000 tickets and nearly 46 lakh in gross. INOX followed with about 6,500 tickets and 26 lakh, while Cinepolis added around 3,800 tickets for a gross of 14 lakh. In contrast, Batwara 1947 has struggled to find similar early traction, selling about 4,900 tickets for a total gross of nearly 20 lakh. Within these major chains, PVR contributed 3,000 tickets and 13 lakh, INOX added 1,600 tickets and 6 lakh, and Cinepolis rounded off the figures with approximately 400 tickets and 1 lakh. Despite having a similar show count of 1,120 in these chains, Deols period drama is seeing much lower occupancy levels. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The All-India advance booking figures for Day 1 tell a similar story. Awarapan 2 has grossed over 70 lakh from 21,160 tickets across nearly 2,700 tracked shows, maintaining an average ticket price of 265 rupees. If we include blocked seats, the potential gross already jumps to 1.9 crore. Batwara 1947, meanwhile, has grossed about 24 lakh from nearly 7,000 tickets across more than 2,500 shows. Even with blocked seats factored in at 88.57 lakh, it remains significantly behind its competitor. These numbers highlight the strategic advantage of Awarapan 2s U/A certification and its 2-hour 20-minute runtime, which makes it a more accessible choice for families compared to the serious, A-rated Partition drama of Batwara 1947. The digital buzz on BookMyShow continues to reflect this growing disparity, with Awarapan 2 now crossing 298,000 interest likes compared to roughly 131,000 for Batwara 1947. Looking at the actual ticket sales on the platform, Awarapan 2 had already recorded 7,020 tickets sold yesterday, August 10. The momentum has picked up further today, August 11, with thousands of tickets being booked every hour. Even with Spider-Man still occupying premium evening slots and limiting screen availability, the sequel is managing to maintain a very steady pace as it approaches its release date. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The off-screen distribution battle is equally fierce. While distributors of Batwara 1947 have been pushing for a monopoly on single screens, the ground-level data is forcing exhibitors to rethink. Given the current trajectory, we can begin to make some early opening day predictions. If this momentum continues to build toward Friday, Awarapan 2 is looking at a potential double-digit opening, likely in the range of 14 to 17 crore. Batwara 1947, despite its prestigious pedigree and the Aamir Khan production tag, currently appears headed for a single-digit start, possibly between 8 and 10 crore, unless there is a massive surge in walk-in audiences over the holiday weekend. Ultimately, the battle of August 14 is coming down to a choice between nostalgia and prestige. While Batwara 1947 is a heavy-hitting drama from director Rajkumar Santoshi, audiences seem more inclined toward the emotional, thriller-driven world of Emraan Hashmi. With three days still left before the first show, all eyes will be on whether Sunny Deol can bridge this gap or if Awarapan 2 will secure its status as the primary choice for the Independence Day weekend.

Shraddha Kapoor's Eetha Gets Blockbuster December First-Week Release, Locking Clash With Prabhas' Fauzi

Mumbai, August 11 - Shraddha Kapoor's much-awaited Eetha has locked a new theatrical release date, and the decision could prove to be a major box-office advantage. The Laxman Utekar directorial, produced by Dinesh Vijan, Laxman Utekar and Karishma Sharma, will now arrive in cinemas on December 4, 2026, after originally being scheduled for August 28. The makers officially announced the new date on Tuesday, bringing an end to weeks of speculation surrounding the film's theatrical release. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The December 4 weekend looks particularly interesting because the release landscape around the date is already undergoing significant changes. Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt's Ranger, which was previously expected to be one of the major releases in the first week of December, has reportedly been pushed to 2027. This has opened up the window considerably, although Prabhas' Fauzi and Akshay Kumar's untitled film with Anees Bazmee have been linked to the same period. However, the chatter in the trade is that the first week of December could eventually become much clearer for Eetha. With multiple films eyeing the same period and the date offering a strong theatrical window, further postponements cannot be ruled out. The December 4 slot could therefore turn into a relatively open corridor for Eetha, allowing the Shraddha Kapoor starrer to command a significant share of the audience and screens if the competing films move away. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Eetha also arrives with considerable curiosity after its teaser generated a strong response. The film is based on the life of legendary Maharashtrian Tamasha and Lavani performer Vithabai Narayangaonkar, with Shraddha portraying the central character. Randeep Hooda and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub also feature in pivotal roles, while Ajay-Atul are composing the music. For Shraddha, the December release comes after the phenomenal success of Stree 2, making Eetha her first major theatrical outing since that blockbuster. A clean first week, strong word of mouth and the absence of a major competing release could give the film the kind of extended run that a performance-driven subject needs. If the other December 4 contenders eventually shift their dates, Eetha could find itself with one of the most favourable release windows for a Hindi film in the final month of 2026.

Harshvardhan Rane To Headline Ram Gopal Varma's Police Company As Complete Cast and Shoot Details Revealed

Mumbai, August 11 - Ram Gopal Varma is gearing up to return to the gritty crime genre with Police Company, an action crime drama headlined by Harshvardhan Rane. The filmmaker has reunited with several actors associated with his iconic 1998 film Satya, while also bringing together a fresh ensemble for the upcoming project. Rane will portray Mumbai's celebrated encounter specialist Daya Nayak, a role that marks an interesting addition to his filmography. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Fardeen Khan has joined the cast and will portray one of Rane's colleagues and a key member of the specialised police squad at the centre of the story. Soundarya Sharma will play the female lead opposite Rane. Adding further nostalgia and weight to the cast, Varma has brought back Satya actors Paresh Rawal, Saurabh Shukla and Makarand Deshpande in pivotal supporting roles. Police Company is set against the backdrop of the late 1990s and early 2000s, when Mumbai's underworld was expanding its influence. The film draws inspiration from the real-life period between 1997 and 2004, when a specialised police squad was formed to counter the growing threat of organised crime. The squad is believed to have eliminated nearly 300 gangsters during this period, with Daya Nayak emerging as one of its most prominent and celebrated members. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Ram Gopal Varma's RGV Company Production. Police Company is scheduled to go on floors on August 17 in Mumbai, with the makers planning to complete the shoot by December. The film is currently targeting a theatrical release in 2027, making it one of Varma’s most notable upcoming projects as he returns to the hard-hitting crime storytelling that has been central to his filmmaking legacy. With Harshvardhan Rane leading the film, Fardeen Khan playing a key police officer and Varma reuniting with Paresh Rawal, Saurabh Shukla and Makarand Deshpande, Police Company brings together a combination of fresh faces and familiar collaborators. The project is expected to blend Varma's trademark realism with action, atmospheric tension and the moral complexities surrounding the police-versus-underworld conflict.

Haiwaan Teaser Out Tomorrow as Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan Reunite After 17 Years for a Role-Reversing Thriller

The long-standing wait to see one of Hindi cinema's most recognizable on-screen duos is finally coming to an end. Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, who defined a specific era of action-comedies in the 1990s and 2000s, are reuniting for Haiwaan. This collaboration marks their first film together in 17 years, with their last joint appearance being in the 2008 film Tashan. The teaser for this project is scheduled to release tomorrow, setting the stage for its global theatrical launch on September 11, 2026. This project arrives as Akshay Kumar is experiencing a massive box office resurgence in 2026, effectively reversing his post-pandemic slump. The superstar started the year on a high note with Bhooth Bangla in April, a highly successful horror-comedy that reunited him with director Priyadarshan after 14 years and dominated the ticket windows. He followed up this momentum with the star-studded action-comedy Welcome to the Jungle in June, which crossed 192 crore in global earnings to emerge as another major hit. Trade analysts note that this is his strongest commercial streak since 2019, setting a lucrative stage for his remaining 2026 slate. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) For many audiences, this reunion is built on deep-seated nostalgia. Between 1994 and 2008, the duo collaborated on six major films including Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Yeh Dillagi, and Tu Chor Main Sipahi. Historically, their chemistry relied on a fixed dynamic where Akshay portrayed the gritty action-man and Saif played the flamboyant romantic lead. However, Haiwaan is expected to completely shatter this old formula by offering a dynamic that is the exact opposite of their previous work. In this new thriller, Akshay Kumar takes on the role of the antagonist, portraying a deeply unsettling and psychopathic character. This is a rare turn for the actor, who has spent the majority of his career as the primary protagonist. Conversely, Saif Ali Khan steps into the lead hero role as a blind martial artist. The plot centers on Saif's character having to rely on his heightened instincts and specialized training to stop the threat posed by Akshay's character. This shift in roles is expected to be the primary talking point of the film, as it challenges the actors to step far outside their usual comfort zones. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The film is directed by Priyadarshan, a filmmaker who is often associated with iconic Hindi comedies like Hera Pheri but is actually a veteran of the dark thriller genre in Malayalam cinema. Haiwaan is the official Hindi adaptation of his 2016 Malayalam hit, Oppam. While his previous Hindi projects often leaned toward slapstick, this film marks a departure into a grittier, more atmospheric world. The production, handled by KVN Productions and Thespian Films, aims to capture the same edge-of-the-seat tension that made the original version a blockbuster. Adding to the film's scale is a special cameo by the legendary Mohanlal, who reportedly reprises a connection to his original role from Oppam. This cross-industry connection is a significant treat for cinephiles. The supporting cast is equally seasoned, featuring Boman Irani, Saiyami Kher, and Shriya Pilgaonkar. Notably, the film also features the late comedy legend Asrani in one of his final on-screen roles, adding a layer of poignancy to the ensemble. With the teaser dropping tomorrow, the industry will get its first look at how these veteran actors handle this high-voltage face-off.

Wamiqa Gabbi Joins Rishab Shetty in Prasanth Varma's Jai Hanuman Following a String of 2026 Successes

Wamiqa Gabbi is reportedly joining the cast of the upcoming pan-India mythological epic Jai Hanuman. According to an exclusive report by Bollywood Hungama, the actress has been signed for a powerful role in the film, which is directed by Prasanth Varma and stars Rishab Shetty in the lead. While her specific character details are still being kept confidential, she is expected to start filming soon for the project in Hyderabad. This casting comes during a very successful year for Wamiqa. She started 2026 with the box-office success of Bhooth Bangla and followed it up with the comedy Pati, Patni Aur Woh Do. More recently, she has been receiving positive reviews for her performance as Chandra in the Tamil film DC: The Bloody Valentine. Joining a project of the scale of Jai Hanuman marks another significant step in her career as she enters an immersive world of mythology and high-octane action. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Jai Hanuman serves as the direct sequel to the 2024 surprise hit Hanu-Man, which featured Teja Sajja. In this new installment, Rishab Shetty takes over the lead role, portraying Lord Hanuman. The film is envisioned as a large-scale epic set in the modern era of Kaliyug, focusing on themes of devotion, loyalty, and strength. It aims to present Hanuman as an immortal figure, blending traditional lore with the sensibilities of a superhero franchise. The project is a key part of the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe, or PVCU. This ambitious superhero franchise draws heavy inspiration from the tapestry of Indian history and mythology. Aside from Jai Hanuman, Varma is also developing other films under this banner, including Mahakali, which focuses on Goddess Kali, and Adhira, inspired by Lord Indra. The goal of the PVCU is to create an interconnected world of legendary characters adapted for a contemporary cinematic audience. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Produced by Mythri Movie Makers and presented by T-Series, the film has been in production since March. The shooting is reportedly moving at a steady pace, and the makers are targeting a massive theatrical release in the second half of 2027. This timeline suggests that the project will involve extensive post-production and visual effects to match the high standards set by the previous film in the universe. Beyond her role in Jai Hanuman, Wamiqa has an extensive lineup of releases. She will next be seen in the film Prahaar alongside Rajkummar Rao this September, followed by the action thriller Goodachari 2 with Adivi Sesh later this year. Her upcoming projects also include the comedy Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling, the film Genie, and Dharma Productions’ Kuku Ki Kundali, where she stars alongside Bhuvan Bam.

Akshay Kumar's Ambitious Alien Thriller 'Samuk' Shoot Details Revealed

Mumbai, August 11 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is set to headline Samuk, an ambitious alien thriller being produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Kanishk Varma. The film is among the actor's more unusual upcoming projects and is expected to explore the science-fiction and survival-thriller space. The project has also attracted international technical talent, adding to its scale and ambition. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to a Variety India report, Samuk will begin filming on August 23, 2026, in London. The makers are planning an extensive international schedule, with around 90% of the film set to be shot in London, while the remaining 10% will be filmed in Mumbai. Interestingly, the entire principal photography is expected to be completed in one continuous schedule. The film marks another collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Vipul Amrutlal Shah, who have previously worked together on several projects. With Kanishk Varma at the helm, Samuk takes their association into a completely different territory, with an alien-centric survival thriller forming the core of the story. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Samuk has also brought acclaimed international technicians on board. Alec Gillis, the Oscar-nominated creature-effects specialist known for his work on the Alien and Predator franchises, is involved with the film, while action specialist Luke Tumber, who has worked on major Hollywood productions, is also part of the team. Their involvement is expected to give the film a strong practical creature and action component. Samuk is being planned as a theatrical release in 2027. With the shoot now set to commence in London later this month, the film is gradually taking shape as one of Akshay Kumar's most distinctive upcoming projects, particularly given its alien-thriller premise and the decision to mount a major portion of the production in the UK.

RD Burman biopic casts Akshay Kumar in the role of superstar Rajesh Khanna

Akshay Kumar is reuniting with director Neeraj Pandey for the upcoming RD Burman biopic. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the actor has signed on for an extended cameo in the film, which features Farhan Akhtar in the lead role. This collaboration marks another project for the actor and director duo who have previously worked together on several acclaimed films. In a move that feels quite poetic, Akshay Kumar will be portraying the legendary Superstar Rajesh Khanna on the big screen. This casting is particularly special because Rajesh Khanna was the father-in-law of Akshay, and the makers felt he was the perfect choice to bring that era back to life. The dynamic between Rajesh Khanna and RD Burman was iconic in Indian cinema, and the production team is keen on recreating that chemistry for the modern audience. Given the family connection Akshay shares with Twinkle Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, he was considered the most obvious and fitting choice for the part. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The film is being produced under the banner of Excel Entertainment and marks another significant collaboration for Neeraj Pandey. Sources indicate that Akshay is extremely excited about playing this role, as he has always been a big fan of his late father-in-law. The actor has reportedly allotted ten days to shoot his portions, and the project is expected to officially hit the floors in October 2026. This adds another high-profile project to Akshay already busy slate and reunites him with the director who helped him deliver some of his most acclaimed performances. Apart from the lead and this special cameo, the makers are currently in the process of casting several other actors to play key figures from that golden era of the film industry. The RD Burman biopic is being designed as a sprawling tribute to the musician's life and his relationships with the superstars of his time. With Farhan Akhtar playing the lead and Akshay Kumar stepping into the shoes of Rajesh Khanna, the project is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated cinematic events of the coming years. As the production gets ready to start later this year, more updates regarding the supporting cast are expected to follow.

Zee Studios and Prerna Arora announce mythological action fantasy Indraputra starring Kiran Abbavaram

Zee Studios and producer Prerna Arora have officially announced their new project titled Indraputra. This mythological action-fantasy film is being developed for a worldwide theatrical release in 2027. According to production schedules, principal photography is set to begin in October 2026. The project is being designed as a large-scale cinematic experience, with the makers focusing on a theatrical rollout to showcase the visual effects and mythological storytelling involved. At the helm of this ambitious venture is filmmaker Srikanth Puppala, who is making his feature directorial debut with a massive canvas. While this is his first time in the director’s chair for a feature film, Puppala brings an extensive industry background to the table. He notably honed his craft working as the first assistant director to Rishab Shetty on the highly anticipated historical epic Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1. This Kantara connection has already piqued the interest of trade circles, as the director is expected to bring a similar level of visual authenticity and technical precision to this new mythological universe. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Leading the film is Telugu star Kiran Abbavaram, who is currently undergoing a significant physical transformation for this rough-cut mythological avatar. He enters this project following a successful and versatile career run, most recently riding high on the theatrical release of Chennai Love Story. Abbavaram's filmography, including hits like SR Kalyanamandapam and the highly praised 2024 period thriller KA. By shifting from suspense thrillers and mass entertainers to this mythology-rooted world, the actor is set to further expand his pan-Indian reach with this grand cinematic presentation. This film serves as a highly anticipated reunion between Zee Studios and prominent producer Prerna Arora. The two entities previously collaborated on the 2016 National Award-winning hit Rustom starring Akshay Kumar, and Indraputra marks their first joint foray into a sprawling South-centric mythological saga. Zee Studios has been aggressively expanding its regional footprint lately, balancing massive theatrical crowd-pleasers like Jaat and Dhadak 2 with selective direct-to-digital releases like the crime drama Satluj. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The vision for Indraputra extends far beyond a single film, as it is designed to kickstart an interconnected mythological sagaβ€”a strategy that positions Zee Studios alongside other major modern fantasy lineups like the Sanatan Universe and Hombale Films' Mahavatar Cinematic Universe. Interestingly, producer Prerna Arora has a multi-project relationship locked with the studio, having already partnered with them for the project Jatadhara.

Love and War distribution rights spark a massive bidding war between Dharma Zee Studios and Pen Marudhar Bollywood

Love and War distribution rights spark a massive bidding war between Dharma Zee Studios and Pen Marudhar

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming magnum opus, Love and War, has been a major talking point in the industry since it was first announced. Featuring the powerhouse trio of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, the film is easily one of the most anticipated releases of 2027. As we get closer to the production stages, the commercial interest in the project has come under the spotlight. According to an exclusive report by Variety India, a high-stakes bidding war is currently underway between three major distribution giants: Dharma Productions, Zee Studios, and Pen Marudhar. The negotiations highlight just how valuable this property is in the current market. Sources suggest that the bidders are currently offering between 175 Crore and 180 Crore for the theatrical distribution rights. However, the makers are reportedly holding out for a much higher figure, demanding upwards of 300 Crore. This gap in valuation is common for a project of this scale, especially given Bhansali's track record for delivering visually stunning and commercially successful epics. Securing a distribution partner this early would significantly reduce the recovery pressure on the production as it heads toward its 2027 release. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) What makes Love and War a relatively safe bet for distributors is its incredible recovery through non-theatrical avenues. The film has already reportedly recovered over 200 Crore before a single frame has been released to the public. Netflix has secured the post-theatrical streaming rights for a staggering 130 Crore, while music and satellite rights have brought in another 70 to 80 Crore. This financial cushion allows the makers to negotiate from a position of strength. The film is being produced on a grand scale, and the multi-language release in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil ensures a pan-Indian footprint. The casting remains the film's biggest asset, bringing together three of the finest actors of this generation. For Ranbir Kapoor, this marks a long-awaited reunion with Bhansali nearly two decades after his debut in Saawariya. Alia Bhatt, fresh off the global success of Gangubai Kathiawadi, continues her creative partnership with the director. While this is Vicky Kaushal's first time working under Bhansali's direction, his previous collaborations with Ranbir in Sanju and Alia in Raazi have already shown the great chemistry this trio shares on screen. The film is described as an epic romantic war drama, a genre that Bhansali is uniquely equipped to handle. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The road to the theaters has seen its fair share of scheduling shifts. Initially planned for a Christmas 2025 release, the timeline was first moved to March 2026 and has now been officially locked for January 21, 2027. These delays are largely attributed to the meticulous pre-production and the busy individual schedules of the lead stars. However, fans might not have to wait much longer for the first official glimpse. Reports from industry sources suggest that a major asset from the movie is slated to be released on August 15. This Independence Day reveal is expected to set the tone for the marketing campaign and provide a first look at the world Bhansali is creating.

Awarapan 2 vs Batwara 1947 Box Office: Emraan Hashmi's Film Looks Set To Win Opening Day Battle Against Sunny Deol's Partition Drama

Mumbai, August 10 - The Independence Day weekend is set to witness an exciting clash at the Hindi box office as Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 takes on Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947 on August 14, 2026. While both films belong to different genres and are targeting different audiences, the early trade buzz suggests that Awarapan 2 has gained a clear advantage ahead of the release. Though the situation could change once bookings begin and marketing campaigns reach their peak, the sequel is currently leading the race. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to early trade projections, Awarapan 2 is expected to open in the 15 crore net range at the Indian box office. The sequel has generated strong excitement thanks to the cult status of the 2007 original, which found a massive fan following after its theatrical release. Its teaser, music, and nostalgia factor have resonated well with audiences, making it the favourite to secure the biggest opening of Emraan Hashmi's career. On the other hand, Batwara 1947 is currently tracking for an opening day collection in the 5-7 crore net range. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and backed by Aamir Khan, the period drama stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, and Shabana Azmi. While the film has the advantage of releasing during the Independence Day holiday and could benefit from positive word of mouth, its pre-release buzz is presently behind that of Awarapan 2, resulting in a comparatively modest opening-day projection. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) It is important to note that these are early trade estimates, and the box office scenario can change significantly closer to release depending on trailer response, promotional campaigns, advance bookings, and audience sentiment. However, based on the current momentum, Emraan Hashmi's romantic action sequel is clearly winning the opening-day battle, with Batwara 1947 likely relying on strong reviews and positive audience reception to bridge the gap over the extended weekend.

Yash Raj Films and Rocket Boys Director Abhay Pannu Team Up for Studios First Horror Project Starting Late 2026 Bollywood

Yash Raj Films and Rocket Boys Director Abhay Pannu Team Up for Studios First Horror Project Starting Late 2026

Yash Raj Films is making a move that has caught the attention of many in the industry as the studio prepares to enter the horror genre for the first time. According to an exclusive report by Lets Cinema, Aditya Chopra has chosen Abhay Pannu to direct this upcoming project. Pannu is widely recognized for his work on the series Rocket Boys, which was praised for its technical finesse and strong storytelling. This collaboration marks a significant moment for YRF, a production house that has spent decades defining the standards of mainstream Indian cinema through entirely different genres. To understand the weight of this decision, one has to look at the massive legacy YRF has established since its foundation. Starting with Daag in 1973, the studio spent decades defining the romantic aesthetic of Indian cinema with classics like Kabhi Kabhie, Silsila, and Chandni. It was during this era that the studio also experimented with psychological tension in Darr, a film that redefined the romantic antagonist and became a landmark thriller. By the mid-90s and early 2000s, YRF became synonymous with the definitive Indian romance through blockbusters like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, and Veer-Zaara, which remain cultural touchstones to this day. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) As of 2026, YRF has cemented its position as one of the most commercially successful studios in the country. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the production house has earned a total of 4,925 crore from just 76 films. This represents an incredible level of efficiency when compared to other industry giants like T-Series, which has earned 5,697 crore but required 117 films to reach that figure. YRF's high average earnings per film highlight a strategy focused on premium theatrical experiences and massive star vehicles, a trend that was further solidified by the recent success of the romantic hit Saiyaara. A massive part of this financial dominance in the modern era comes from the creation of the YRF Spy Universe. This interconnected franchise, starting with the Tiger series and expanding into War and Pathaan, has fundamentally changed box office expectations in India. Pathaan alone grossed over 1,050 crore worldwide, playing a critical role in reviving the theatrical market post-pandemic. The studio has also shown a willingness to back rooted, content-driven narratives such as the National Award-winning Dum Laga Ke Haisha, the sports drama Sultan, and the social drama Hichki, proving that their brand can adapt to realistic storytelling just as easily as it handles glamour. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The choice of Abhay Pannu for this horror project suggests that YRF is aiming for a grounded and sophisticated take on the genre rather than relying on traditional tropes. Pannu’s work on Rocket Boys demonstrated a penchant for meticulous detail and technical finesse, qualities that align perfectly with the YRF philosophy of delivering polished, large-scale cinema. By bringing in a new-age directorial voice for their first-ever horror feature, the studio is looking to capture a segment of the audience that has shown a growing appetite for atmospheric and narrative-heavy thrillers. Ultimately, this pivot into horror is a bold but calculated step for Aditya Chopra. The studio has already mastered the art of the romantic drama and the blockbuster action film, and entering a new creative space is a way to test their boundaries. With pre-production already underway and a massive theatrical release planned for 2027, the industry will be watching closely to see how the first horror chapter in the YRF legacy begins to take shape. Given their history of redefining genres, there is a strong expectation that this venture will set a new benchmark for horror in mainstream Indian cinema.

Ramayana Part 1 Box Office: Why Ranbir Kapoor Starrer Has A Real Shot At 2,000 Crore Worldwide Bollywood

Ramayana Part 1 Box Office: Why Ranbir Kapoor Starrer Has A Real Shot At 2,000 Crore Worldwide

Mumbai, August 8 - The 2000 crore worldwide mark remains one of the most elusive milestones in Indian cinema. Aamir Khan's sports biopic Dangal is the only Indian film to have crossed this barrier, but there is an important caveat to that historic run: more than half of the film's worldwide gross came from China, with 1300+ crore gross. The Chinese market delivered an extraordinary response to Dangal, turning it into a once-in-a-generation box-office phenomenon, but China is not a regular theatrical market for Indian films. That makes the 2000 crore benchmark even more difficult to replicate. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In recent years, however, Indian cinema has started getting closer to that number without depending on a China phenomenon. Director Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar 2 came remarkably close, emerging as one of the biggest Indian blockbusters ever with a worldwide gross of more than 1800 crore. The Ranveer Singh-led action entertainer demonstrated that an Indian film can come within striking distance of Dangal through the conventional domestic and overseas markets. Yet, despite its extraordinary run, Dhurandhar 2 ultimately couldn't touch the 2000 crore milestone, leaving the record intact. This is where Ramayana comes into play. The Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash starrer has several advantages that could make it a genuine contender for the 2000 crore club, but perhaps the biggest one is its international distribution strategy. The film is being released internationally by Sony Pictures, arguably one of the biggest and most powerful film distribution companies in the world. This could give Ramayana an unprecedented opportunity to reach audiences outside India. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to reports, Sony Pictures is planning to release Ramayana across more than 50,000 screens internationally. If that rollout materialises, it would easily be the widest international theatrical release ever for an Indian film by a considerable margin. The significance of this cannot be overstated. Indian films have traditionally relied heavily on diaspora audiences overseas, with relatively limited screen penetration compared with Hollywood event films. Ramayana could potentially change that model. The scale of the international release could also help the film overcome one of the biggest challenges in its two thousand crore pursuit. Unlike Dangal, Ramayana cannot be expected to receive an enormous China boost. Instead, it will need to maximise revenue across established Indian-film markets as well as territories where Indian cinema is still expanding. A distribution giant like Sony Pictures gives the film the infrastructure, market access and theatrical reach to attempt exactly that. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The domestic side is equally promising. Ranbir Kapoor gives Ramayana a strong Hindi-market foundation, while Yash brings enormous pan-India popularity. More importantly, the Ramayana itself is arguably one of the most recognisable stories to emerge from India, giving the film an advantage that very few original or franchise properties can match. Dhurandhar 2 proved that an Indian film can get within roughly 200 crore of Dangal's worldwide record without relying on a China phenomenon. Ramayana, meanwhile, could have an even bigger international theatrical footprint thanks to Sony Pictures and a reported 50,000-plus overseas screens. Of course, a massive release does not automatically guarantee a massive box office. Ramayana will still need excellent audience reception, strong word of mouth and exceptional legs to turn its enormous release scale into actual revenue. But for the first time, the infrastructure appears to be in place for an Indian film to genuinely attempt this. Dangal set the 2,000 crore benchmark. Dhurandhar 2 came remarkably close but couldn't finish the job. Now, Ramayana has the opportunity to take the next big step. If the film lives up to its enormous pre-release expectations, the combination of the epic story, star power, scale and strong distribution power could make the barrier a very real target rather than just a distant box-office dream.
