Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat To Perform At 'Covid-safe' Brit Awards

Los Angeles, Jan 21 (IANS) Musicians Dave, Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran, Holly Humberstone, Liam Gallagher, and Little Simz are among the first wave of performers revealed for this year's Brit awards, one of Britain's biggest music events.## The awards, which are scheduled to take place live at London's O2 Arena on February 8, will be aired on ITV and ITV Hub, and streamed for non-UK viewers via the Brits' YouTube channel, reports variety.com.## Despite a dip in numbers and the UK government's decision to ease restrictions, the country continues to register more than 100,000 new Covid cases and upward of 330 deaths daily as Omicron spreads.## To ensure a safe event, the Brit organizers are therefore asking artists, nominees, and all guests to show a negative lateral flow test on arrival to the venue. Fans will this year be offered to purchase stall seats on the arena floor, where nominated artists will also take their seats in an exclusive area.## Audience members will not be socially distanced but will be asked to wear their masks when not eating or drinking, or in their seats. They will be required to follow existing government guidance when traveling to the venue and adhere to rules set out by the event organizers.## The Brits are this year working with Blue Light Tickets where the emergency services are invited to enter a ballot to come to the show, following the gifting of tickets to NHS front-line workers in 2021.## Among the performers, British rappers Dave and Simbiatu Ajikawo, aka Little Simz, and their fellow Briton Sheeran have four nominations each. For Doja Cat, the best-selling female R&B and hip-hop star of last year, the Brits will mark her first UK performance. She has two Brit nominations this year.## Humberstone was named the Brits 2022 Rising Star winner in late 2021. Liam Gallagher will be returning to the Brits stage after his performance at the 2018 awards.## "I'm gonna be performing my new single Everything's Electric at the Brit Awards this year and I'd appreciate it if you stopped what you were doing and tuned in cheers", Gallagher tweeted on Friday.## Little Simz, said: "Thank you Brits. No new date has been confirmed as of yet.## The 2022 show, scheduled for January 31, had been moving full speed ahead before a full audience at its traditional venue, the Crypto.com Arena (formerly known as the Staples Center) in downtown Los Angeles, but the recent Covid-19 surge has caused the postponement or cancellation of multiple events across the country.## Sources have told 'Variety' that even though the Crypto.com Arena has a basketball or hockey game or a concert booked nearly every night until mid-April, a number of artistes and executives are said to have reservations about appearing in person. This is what has led to the postponement of the music world's most important show.## The Recording Academy and its television partner, CBS, said in a joint statement: "Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music's Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon".## The Grammys generate millions of dollars in revenue, but they drew only a fraction of a normal year's earnings in 2021 when the event was first postponed and then pared down considerably.## The 2022 Grammy nominees list is led by Jon Batiste with 11 nods, followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R. with eight each. SRK, Priyanka Chopra join Lady Gaga for corona relief concert

Mumbai, April 19 (IANS) Indian superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra Jonas joined Lady Gaga's star-studded "One World: Together at Home" to celebrate healthcare workers fighting against the coronavirus pandemic and urged everyone to stay strong during the health crisis.## Over 70 artists and celebrities from across the world joined the concert to honor the frontline workers. The virtual concert, organized by the WHO and Global Citizen on Saturday, was hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Stephen Colbert. The event included performances and appearances from Taylor Swift, Elton John, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, and Paul McCartney.## Shah Rukh opened up about the coronavirus outbreak in India and delved into the plight faced by the people.## "India is facing one of its greatest challenges, in our history. With a population of over a billion citizens, the strength of COVID-19 is bound to have a negative impact on the country. Like, it is impacting the rest of the world too," Shah Rukh said in a video clip.## "Battling this crisis is going to take its toll, and this is the time to take action. Right now, I'm working with a team of people to provide protective equipment, quarantine centers, food and essentials to patients, hospitals and homes. But to beat this worldwide pandemic, the world must come together," he added.## He continued: "So find out how you can contact World and private sector leaders, and ask them to continue to contribute to WHO's Solidarity Response Fund, so they can help to continue the hardest of areas and people who desperately need it. India, planet earth, we are one world. I love you, stay strong."## Priyanka, who is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, spoke on the challenges faced by the refugee camps all over the world.## "I have witnessed first hand the overcrowded and unlivable conditions in refugee camps ... The camps need health care, clean water, and sanitation to stand through the pandemic," said Priyanka, who has worked with Shah Rukh in the "Don" series.## The mega concert also had acted by Chris Martin, Lizzo, Billie Eilish, John Legend, Kacey Musgraves, and Jennifer Lopez among many others.## The US event featured the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Michael Buble, Annie Lennox, Common, The Killers, Luis Fonsi, Adam Lambert, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, Ke$ha, and Jessie J. Los Angeles, April 7 (IANS) Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra Jonas along with names like Billie Eilish and Paul McCartney have united for pop star Lady Gaga's One World: Together At Home, a mega live-streamed and televised benefit concert in support of the World Health Organization's (WHO) COVID-19 solidarity response fund and in celebration of health workers around the world.## The lineup also includes names like Chris Martin of Coldplay, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Elton John, John Legend, Lizzo, J Balvin, Stevie Wonder, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Alanis Morissette, Burna Boy, Andrea Bocelli, Kacey Musgraves, Keith Urban, and Lang Lang, reports theguardian.com.## SRK and Priyanka are among several celebrities expected atthe event, along with David Beckham, Idris and Sabrina Elba, Kerry Washington, and "Sesame Street" cast members.## Popular US talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Stephen Colbertwill host the event, which broadcasts live across the US television networks ABC, CBS, and NBC, as well as being streamed online on April 18.## BBC One will show an adapted version of the concert on April 19, including exclusive performances from UK artists and interviews with frontline health workers.## The details of the broadcast are yet to be announced.## The WHO and the social action platform Global Citizen have partnered to produce the event.## The latter's Together at Home series, launched last month, has featured performances from artists in isolation including Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, and Rufus Wainwright.## In a WHO press conference, Lady Gaga said she had helped to raise $35m for Global Citizen in the past week.## She said that One World was not a fundraising telethon and would focus on entertainment and messages of solidarity, with philanthropists and businesses urged to donate to the COVID-19 solidarity response fund ahead of the event.## "We may have to be apart physically for a little while, but we can still come together virtually to enjoy great music.
