Mumbai, February 8 - The mega blockbuster Chinese animated sequel Ne Zha 2 has done the unthinkable and entered uncharted box office territory by becoming the first film ever to score a $1 billion gross collection at the China box office. ## The direct sequel to the 2019 film Ne Zha, Ne Zha 2's running gross collection is $989+ million (RMB 7.2 billion) as of 9 PM local China time on its 11th day (Saturday). The film is likely to enter the $1 billion club at the end of the day and by the first hour of its 12th day, second Sunday. ## Before unlocking the billion club at the China box office, Ne Zha 2 scripted history on Saturday by becoming the highest-grossing movie ever in a single market, beating the Hollywood blockbuster 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens which grossed $936.7 million in North America. ## Ne Zha 2 has been running riot since its opening during the Chinese New Year weekend on January 29. Earlier, it set the single-film box office record for the Lunar New Year in China box office history and also outgrossed The Battle at Lake Changjin (RMB 5.77 billion) in just 9 days to become the biggest grosser in China. ## The film's lifetime box office projection has been on the rise with its sensational day-wise trend. Mumbai, February 8 - Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane's Sanam Teri Kasam, which failed to score much in its original run, has created a stir at the box office upon its re-release on February 7. It was surprisingly the number 1 movie this Friday despite a couple of new re-releases.## Directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, the heartbreaking romantic drama stunned the trade with its opening as the film scored approximately 4.25-4.50 crores net collection, which is nearly 50% of its total original run box office collection and easily the biggest for a Bollywood re-release title. ## Originally released 9 years ago in 2016, Sanam Teri Kasam ended up as a big disappointment, scoring approximately 9 crores net collection in its lifetime run. Over the years, the movie deservingly got the recognition due to the immense repeat value on television and has earned a cult status for the same.## The word of mouth for the movie has been positive, thanks to the huge viewership on television and the same is reflecting its re-release collection. If it maintains a strong grip over the weekend and beyond, the film will have a very good chance of turning its original box office verdict which needs to be seen. ## Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan's one of the greatest sci-fi adventure films Interstellar was re-released in Indian cinemas for a limited period in 2D and IMAX format. Hyderabad, February 7 - Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi's romantic action thriller Thandel has taken a fantastic start at the domestic box office, justifying the pre-release hype for the movie, directed by Chandoo Mondeti. ## The film is looking to score the career-best opening for Naga Chaitanya as early estimates suggest the collection to be in the range of 11-12 crores gross. The previous biggest grosser for the actor was Love Story which minted around 10.50 crores gross on its first day. ## The initial word of mouth for Thandel looks on the positive side and the pre-sales for the remaining weekend are good. It is looking to score 30+ crores gross collection in its opening weekend which will be a good collection.## There was Himesh Reshmiya's comedy action drama which opened to better-than-expected numbers as early estimates suggest 2.50-3 crores net opening day. Chennai, February 7 - After the good opening day, superstar Ajith Kumar's action thriller Vidaamuyarchi is seeing a big drop on its second day at the domestic box office, which was somewhat expected due to the mixed word of mouth. ## Vidaamuyarchi took the second biggest opening for the actor in Tamil Nadu with approximately 25 crores gross, however, the movie is seeing a drop of around 60% on Friday as early estimates suggest the collection to be in the range of 8-10 crores gross in the state. ## The drop is universal as the rest of the states have a similar kind of response as the overall second day of the movie is expected to gross 10-12 crores, dropping over 60% from the opening day of 31.75 crores gross. South Indian movies tend to drop after the first day, but here, the drop is higher than expected which is concerning. ## Word of mouth is not in favour of the film so the onus will be on the stardom of Ajith Kumar to finish to opening weekend on high good collection on Saturday and Sunday with decent pre-sales. Chennai, February 6 - Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar's much-awaited action thriller film Vidaamuyarchi was released at the box office today amid high expectations. The movie was also released in the dubbed version of Telugu as Pattudala. ## While the expectations were high, it received a mixed reception from the audience. However, the movie has done well at the box office as it is looking to score 22-24 crores in Tamil Nadu, as per estimates. Depending on how the offline shows perform, the final figure can go higher in the state. ## Apart from Tamil Nadu, the film is expected to score 6-7 crores gross collection in the rest of the domestic market for a total domestic gross in the range of 28+ crores on its first day. The opening of the movie can be called good, as word of mouth is not that great. ## The advance booking of Vidaamuyarchi for the rest of the weekend is good. Mumbai, February 5 - The box office insanity is at its peak as Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 has gone bonkers in the domestic market over the Lunar New Year holiday weekend. The movie is setting new day-wise box office records and is about to become the biggest grosser in the country. ## Released on January 29 on Wednesday, the sequel to the 2019 movie took a massive opening of approximately $68 million before exploding during the Friday-Sunday weekend. It grossed an insane approximately $666 million (RMB 4.84B) in the first 7 days. ## This is the single-film box office record for the Chinese New Year period in the history of the Chinese box office. It is set to become the biggest grosser in China by beating 2021's The Battle at Lake Changjin, which grossed RMB 5.77 billion ($800 million) by Thursday (9 days) already. ## According to Deadline, the total Mainland grosses of all movies reached RMB 9.51B ($1.3 billion) from January 28-February 4, making it the biggest Lunar New Year weekend by outgrossing the previous record of RMB 8.02 billion. From the same period last year, China's box office saw an insane increase of 234%.## The animated franchise has historically dominated the box office as the original Ne Zha is the 5th highest-grossing title ever at the China box office with RMB 5.03 billion. The latest sequel is projected to become the first $1 billion grosser in the market and is expected to finish its run with $1.2+ billion. Hyderabad, February 5 - After a back-to-back couple of box office failures, Telugu actor Naga Chaitanya's romantic action thriller Thandel is gearing up to hit the big screens on February 7 amid high expectations. The movie has created a good buzz and is set for a better start this weekend. ## Thandel reunites Naga Chaitanya with actress Sai Pallavi after the superhit Love Story (2021), which was the only solo hit for the former post the Covid-19 pandemic. The movie is directed by Chandu Mondeti, whose last directorial, Karthikeya 2, was a huge blockbuster at the box office. ## Despite poor recent records for Chaitanya, Thandel has managed to fetch career-best pre-release theatrical business for the actor. According to T2BLive, the Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) business of the movie is valued at approximately 27.50 crores, including 10.50 crores for the Nizam area. ## Apart from AP/TG, the rest of India business is at 3.50 crores, while overseas business is locked at 6 crore, for total worldwide theatrical business at 37 crores. Mumbai, February 3 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's war action thriller Sky Force has entered the 100 crores net club, becoming the first Bollywood and second Indian movie of 2025 to achieve the feat. The movie is directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur. ## Sky Force, based on true events, unlocked the 100 crores club on the second Sunday. It took 10 days to reach the milestone which has not been a regular case for Akshay-starrer lately. This is the actor's third 100 crores net grosser post the Covid-19 pandemic, after Sooryavanshi and OMG 2. ## Produced by Maddock Films and Jio Studios, Sky Force's opening weekend collection was largely boosted by the huge discounted prices and since then, it has done decently with regular prices thanks to positive word of mouth and top critics' reviews. ## It is the 126th film ever to cross 100 crores net collection in Hindi, and the 16th for Akshay Kumar which is the second highest after superstar Salman Khan's 17 movies.
