Hyderabad, August 16 - Actor Nikhil Siddharth's Karthikeya 2 has achieved the break-even target in just 3 days and becomes Tollywood's third straight hit. Mumbai, August 15 - The box office misery for Bollywood continues as Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar-fronted Raksha Bandhan failed to get the benefit of a long holiday period. These two films were expected to bring some relief to the Hindi film industry but they performed underwhelmingly over the 4-day opening weekend. ## Talking about Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha, the film faced multiple challenges due to the boycott calls and mixed word of mouth also didn't help the cause. The remake of the Hollywood classic blockbuster Forrest Gump, "Laal Singh Chaddha" scored 37.96 crores net collection in the first 4 days, which is the lowest opening weekend total for an Aamir Khan film (lead role) since 32.25 crores of "Ghajini" (3 days).## At the overseas box office, the Advait Chandan-directed film has performed better than the domestic market and has grossed 43 crores so far. The worldwide cume total of the film reached 88 crores after 44 days. The movie is produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Aamir Khan Productions while Paramount Pictures distributed the film in international markets.## On the other hand, Akshay Kumar-fronted family comedy-drama film, Raksha Bandhan also met the same fate as LSC. Despite the positive reviews and word of mouth, the Anand L Rai-directed couldn't pick up over the weekend after a decent start. In the major achievement, Universal Studio has crossed $3 billion at the worldwide box office in 2022, the first studio to reach the milestone since Disney in 2019.## According to Deadline, the studio has scored $1.74B at the international box office and $1.28B domestically (North America) this year. This is the eighth time Universal has topped the $3B box office mark worldwide. Jurassic World Dominion is leading the chart for the studio with $975 million ($605M overseas/$373.1M domestic) so far. It has set its eyes on touching the $1 billion mark in the coming days. ## "Jurassic World Dominion" is the 5th highest-grossing film (without exchange rates) for Universal at the domestic box office while worldwide, it ranks 8th for the studio. In 2022, the Chris Pratt-starrer is the second biggest-grossing Hollywood movie worldwide, after Paramount Pictures' "Top Gun Maverick" ($1.4B).## The second biggest film this year for the studio is Minions: The Rise of Gru, which has so far grossed $790.4M globally, including $446.7M overseas and $343.7M from domestic. The total overseas collection of the film now stands at $601.4 million from 88 markets, according to Hollywood trade expert Gitesh Pandya.## The Chris Pratt-starrer science fiction actioner has grossed $373.1 million at the domestic (North America) box office and has almost finished its run there. The worldwide cume total of the film has reached $975 million and now, the $1 billion global mark is looking possible.## Interestingly, "Jurassic World Dominion" is the lowest-rated film in the 6-film franchise. The Rotten Tomatoes critic' score is just 30% for the movie, and still, the film has managed to keep up the box office legacy of this blockbuster franchise. If the movie reaches the $1 billion mark, it will become the 4th Jurassic movie to do so. ## China is leading the international box office chart of the film with $157.6 million in its final run, followed by Mexico at number 2 with $42.9 million, the United Kingdom at 3 with $41.5 million, France and Australia at number 4 and 5 with $28.5 million and $24.8 million, respectively. Mumbai, August 12 - Two of the most anticipated Movies of the year Laal Singh Chaddha by Aamir Khan and Raksha Bandhan by Akshay Kumar released yesterday with so many expectations. But both the movies struggled on their first day despite having the advantage of a national holiday on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. ## The main reason why these movies had to encounter the struggle is that Both have less commercial appeal and are made in a more urban-friendly manner. Audiences are showing less interest in both movies despite there being the presence of Big stars like Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar.## The combined collection of both movies on day 1 is 20.20 crore net. Overall both movies projected below-average results which further worries the filmmakers of Bollywood and also indicates that they should retrospect to see what is going wrong these times.## They need to realize that the preference of the audiences has undergone a drastic change over the years. The success of movies like KGF chapter 2 and Pushpa, in which the main hero is of the anti-hero type indicates that the audience prefers heroes with a touch of negative shade. Recently the warm reception south superstar Suriya has been receiving for his cameo role in Vikram which is filled with a negative shade is a clear example of this. ## Bollywood needs to reduce the number of experimental type films and focus on mass movies which engage the audiences throughout their duration, in long term emerge as big hits.## Stay tuned...

Mumbai, August 12 - The much-awaited Bollywood biggies, Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar-fronted Raksha Bandhan performed underwhelmingly at the box office on an opening day. Being a holiday release, the industry was expecting both films to do well which didn't happen. ## Laal Singh Chaddha, which is the official remake of the classic Hollywood blockbuster Forrest Gump, was a bigger film than Raksha Bandhan. However, the opening day collection of 12 crores net of the film is too low by the standard Aamir has set over the years.## It was almost impossible to match the pre-covid level box office performance for Laal Singh Chaddha, but the movie still needed to perform much better than it actually earned, considering the big budget and scale of the film. A negative campaign was also run against the movie and that might have done damage to the movie. The word of mouth, however, is mixed. ## On the other hand, the Akshay Kumar-starrer family comedy-drama film, Raksha Bandhan collected 8.20 crores net on Thursday. Though the movie was predicted to earn around in the same range, a 10 crores start would have been nice, but unfortunately, the movie legged behind LSC in mutliplexes. The word of mouth and reivews are largly positive and this should help the movie to grow over the weekend, especially from Saturday. ## Overall, both Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan combined scored 20.20 crores net collection on the first day, which is lower than the opening of Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi. The Rohit Shetty-directed film is the biggest Bollywood opener post pandemic. It scored 26.29 crores net upon its release on Diwali 2021. ## Stay tuned...

The movie has proved to be a word-of-mouth hit at the box office and recovered its total investment in just 6 days despite opening on a decent note. ## The movie starring Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur, and Rashmika Mandanna, was released day and date with Nandamuri Kalyan Ram's Bimbisara, which is already on its way to becoming a massive blockbuster. It was valued at approx. 16 crores worldwide and it has already managed to collect 25.50 crores share collection in just 7 days. ## Sita Ramam has lagged behind Bimbisara in the overall collection but has shown better trending than Kalyan Ram-starrer. The movie was valued at approx. 17 crores worldwide and so far, Sita Ramam has grossed 19.20 crores share collection, proving to be a profitable film for the stakeholders. ## The successes of both Sita Ramam and Bimbisara came at a time when Tollywood was going through a dry phase and badly needed a hit to get things back on track.
