Mumbai, February 1 - China's war film "Battle of Lake Changjin 2" has taken a storming start at the Chinese box office, surging to $105 million (RMB667 million) on the first day. The film has taken a commanding early lead at China's highly lucrative Lunar New Year box office race. ## "Battle of Lake Changjin" aka "Watergate Bridge" is the sequel to China's highest-grossing film of the same title. The first "Battle of Lake Changjin", which opened last year during China's October 1, National Day holiday, went on to score $913 million, becoming the biggest Chinese movie and the non-English film of all time. ## The sequel, which is also directed by the original directors Chen Kaige, Tsui Hark and Dante Lam, had grossed RMB487 million ($76.5 million) by 1.30 pm on Tuesday (Feb. 1), according to online ticketing agency Maoyan and Alibaba's Beacon data service (via Variety). By 10 pm, its total had passed RMB667 million ($105 million). ## "Battle of Lake Changjin" sequel, however, fell way short of breaking China's single-day box office record of RMB 1.05 billion (or $163 million at the time) set by Wanda's "Detective Chinatown 3" last year. However, the sequel has much better social scores than those of Detective Chinatown 3, with 9.6 on ticketing service Maoyan, 9.6 on Alibaba's Taopiaopiao ticketing platform, and 7.4 on popular reviews site Douban. ## According to Variety, Chinese State media has forecast that the film may finish over $1 billion at the end of its box office run. If the forecast turns out true, the "Battle of Lake Changjin 2" will become China's new all-time box office champion by surpassing its predecessor, which was also the second-highest-grossing film of 2021 worldwide, behind "Spider-Man: No Way Home".## The film glorifies China's victory over U.S. forces during a key battle in the Korean War (known in China as the "War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea"). Mumbai, January 29 - Ranveer Singh-fronted sports biopic, "83", which has a dismal show at the domestic box office so far, has received a much deserve appreciation at the international markets. ## The Kabir Khan-directed, which has been declared a box office flop at the Indian box office, becomes the highest-grossing Indian film at the overseas box office of a title released in 2021. It has so far grossed Rs. 63.11 crores outside India.## Akshay Kumar's domestic superhit "Sooryavanshi" is the second highest-grossing Indian film overseas with Rs. 62.2 crores. Interestingly, both "83" and "Sooryavanshi" were released by Reliance Entertainment worldwide. "Sooryavanshi", however, proved to be a major success of the company both at the domestic and overseas box office with Rs. 294 crores worldwide gross. ## "83" has so far grossed approx Rs. 190 crores, and it is largely saved by the overseas performance. Mumbai, January 22 - Allu Arjun's "Pushpa - The Rise" (Part 1), which was released on December 17, shocked the industry and trade experts with its phenomenal box office outcome in the dubbed Hindi version. This Sukumar-directed, however, has had an average opening in Hindi, but strong word of mouth helped it put up a strong show at the box office, clocking Rs. 90 crores in Hindi till now. ## Manish Shah of Goldmines Telefilms has the Hindi dubbed rights and it is said that he generated over Rs. 40 crores profit from the theatrical release of the film. He is now looking optimistic about the box office potential of part two, titled "Pushpa - The Rule". The hype for "Pushpa 2" is already sky-high, and it could repeat what Prabhas' "Baahubali - The Conclusion" did in Hindi belts. ## "Pushpa 2" is slated to go on floors in April 2022, and the makers are eyeing to release it in December this year. Manish Shah, during a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, had said that the movie might not release this year but he is confident that it will be a historic blockbuster and might even break "Baahubali 2's" box office record in Hindi. ## "In my opinion, Pushpa 2 – The Rule is going to be a historic blockbuster. I don't know how many records it will break", he said. Baahubali 2 had made a whopping Rs. 510 crores in Hindi (highest ever in Hindi). Shah believes that if executed well, "Pushpa 2" can break that record.## "Well, there's a possibility. Baahubali's first part collected Rs. 120 crores. Pushpa: The Rise – Part 01 will end up with a lifetime of Rs. 93-94 crores. Therefore, the difference is only 30%. 50% zyada mehnat kar di hum sab ne to Pushpa 2 Baahubali 2 ka record tod degi! (If we have worked 50% more, then Pushpa 2 will break the record of Bahubali 2)", he added.## The script of "Pushpa 2" is currently being developed by Sukumar.
