'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Becomes The Highest-Grossing Film Of All Time In Mexico

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, January 18 - Marvel/Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is setting new benchmarks at the domestic as well as the international box office. The superhero movie is heading towards a $1 billion overseas box office, that too without a single penny from China. ## The Tom Holland-fronted film has so far grossed $926.3 million through 63 international markets and over $700 million domestically (North America), pushing global cume to $1.62 billion. It is currently the 8th highest-grossing film of all time at the worldwide box office and will grab the 6th spot in the list by the end of next weekend.## Meanwhile, "No Way Home" has become the highest-grossing film of all time in Mexico with $72 million. In Brazil, it is the second highest-grossing film ever with $50.4 million, so in Central America ($12.6M) and Ecuador ($7.9M).## In North America, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" becomes the 4th highest-grossing film ever. After the end of the 5th weekend, it was the 5th biggest-grosser there with $698.7 million and became 4th biggest on Monday by crossing Marvel Studios' "Black Panther" ($700.06 million). ## The Jon Watts-directed is likely to finish with $1.75 billion globally. The number could go higher if it gets a release date in China, which is the biggest movie market in the world. However, the movie has done its job and whatever comes further is a bonus. Sony Pictures has already reportedly made a net profit of a whopping $600 million-plus. ## Stay tuned...

'Pushpa - The Rise' Continues To Light Up Hindi Box Office Despite OTT Premiere

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, January 17 - Allu Arjun's "Pushpa - The Rise" is proving to be a long racehorse in the Hindi version. Directed by Sukumar, "Pushpa" hasn't been affected by the early OTT premiere, especially in the Hindi version as it continues to light up the box office. ## "Pushpa - The Rise" had a digital premiere of the Hindi version on January 14 on Amazon Prime Video after 28 days of theatrical release. Before "Pushpa" was started premiering on Prime Video, it had already netted over Rs. 84 crores in Hindi, making it the 3rd biggest Hindi total during the covid-19 pandemic. ## However, even after the OTT release, the Hindi version of the film continues to draw footfalls at the cinema halls as it netted approx Rs. 4.50 crores in the 5th weekend at the box office, taking the total collections to approx. Rs 89 crore. With no competition at the moment, the movie is taking the full use of a clear path and attracting people to theaters despite the covid-19 3rd wave and OTT premier. ## Maharashtra and Gujrat are driving the Hindi biz of "Pushpa - The Rise" and these two states are key in the film's race to enter Rs. 100 crores club. Though the 100 crores milestone is looking far from reality with the things at the moment, it could still have a last big shot if the covid-19 situation doesn't get worsen. ## With the success of "Pushpa" in Hindi, Allu Arjun proved his stardom in Hindi belts. Over the years, the actor's movies have drawn the attention of Hindi audiences on television, and "Pushpa" was the first major test to prove his stardom right. It is safe to say, he has not only passed the test but also raised the expectations for his upcoming films. ## The Telugu makers have already decided to release the Hindi version of Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde's 2020 blockbuster "Ala Vaikunthapurramloo" on January 26. Interestingly, the Hindi remake of the AVPL, starring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon is already under production and will release in November 2022. However, the makers have also decided to release the dubbed version due to the heavy demand for the film. Manish Shah of Goldmines Telefilms and AA Films will release the Hindi version. ## Stay tuned...

Slasher Movie 'Scream' Ends Four-Week Reign Of 'Spider-Man'

BY SACNILK

Los Angeles, Jan 16 (IANS) Even as most other theatrical releases continue to struggle because of the Omicron wave, the latest horror movie, 'Scream', is making a sizable impression at the North American box office, showing yet again that audiences in the U.S., especially the younger demographic, are in love with the horror genre.## With an opening weekend that should finally dethrone 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' after the Marvel entry's four-week perch on top of the earnings totem pole, 'Scream' is the new box-office No. 1.## The fifth installment in the horror franchise, and the first in over a decade, grossed $13.35 million on Friday from 3,664 locations, reports 'Variety'. Paramount Pictures projects the horror film should rake in $36 million over the four-day Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, more than enough to land at No. 1 for the weekend.## The thrifty 'requel' only cost $25 million to produce, a number that the release should easily rocket past before the weekend is out, according to 'Variety'. Not too shabby for a January release unleashed on the moviegoing public amid a colossal spike of Covid-19 and its more transmissible Omicron variant.## 'Scream' is evidence that audiences will still roll out to theatres during the pandemic, especially films targeting a demographic of younger viewers.## Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett direct 'Scream', taking over the series from its founder Wes Craven, who helmed the four first entries before passing away in 2015, reports 'Variety'. The film stars series regulars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette as they are once again haunted by a serial killer in a Ghostface mask.## The killing spree extends to a group of high school students in the town of Woodsboro, California. Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, and Dylan Minnette also star in the slasher.## Stay tuned...

Box Office: Sports Biopic '83' Goes Past Rs. 100 Cr. Domestic Net

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, January 10 - Ranveer Singh-starrer "83" has become the second Bollywood film to reach Rs. 100 crores net at the domestic box office since the last year. The sports biopic netted approx 3.50 crores in the 3rd weekend, pushing its total India net to Rs. 100.50 crores for all languages. ## "83" becomes the 6th film for Ranveer Singh to enter Rs. 100 crores net club. "Padmaavat" remains his highest net earning film of all time with Rs. 302.15 cr., followed by Simmba (Rs. 240.3 cr.), Bajirao Mastani (Rs. 184.3 cr.), Gully Boy (Rs. 139.63 cr.), and Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (Rs. 117.53 cr.). ## At the overseas box office, the Kabir Khan-directed has grossed approx Rs. 59 crores in 17 days, helping its worldwide gross total to reach Rs. 176 crores after the 3rd weekend. It is only the second Bollywood film after Akshay Kumar's "Sooryavanshi" to gross over Rs. 150 crores worldwide since Ajay Devgn's "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior" in January 2020.## Despite all the aforementioned box office numbers, makers would be feeling that the movie has underperformed at the box office. It was looked like an outright blockbuster, however, the competition with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and Allu Arjun's "Pushpa" have reduced its chances to go big in Hindi markets, plus, the restrictions on cinemas have also hit it hard. ## While "83" is finding it difficult to cope up with current circumstances, Allu Arjun's "Pushpa - The Rise" is going wild at the box office in Hindi versions. In fact, this action-thriller is growing day by day, especially on single screens. The dubbed Hindi version of the film netted approx. Rs. 9 crores in its 4th weekend, and its total Hindi collection now strongly stands at Rs. 81.50 crores. ## Directed by Sukumar, the "Pushpa" Hindi version has contributed 35% to the total India gross collection of the film, making it one of the biggest contributions for a dubbed version of a Pan-India film.
