Mumbai, Dec 30 (IANS) Filmmaker-actor Ajay Devgn's movie 'Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior', which also stars Kajol and Saif Ali Khan, has become the biggest hit of the last two years with numbers closing at Rs 280 crore in the domestic market and it grossed Rs 3.67 billion worldwide. ## 'Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior' in the last two years did the closing at Rs 280 crore in the domestic market, while Akshay Kumar's latest film 'Sooryavanshi' also touched Rs 195 crore, giving the Indian exhibitors reason to smile. ## According to reports available, 'Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior' grossed Rs 3.67 billion ($49 million) worldwide and was declared a blockbuster at the box-office, thus having the distinction of being the highest grossing Bollywood film of 2020. ## Talking about 'Tanhaji' dominating the box-office for two years, Ajay told IANS: "'Tanhaji' was special because it stayed true to the patriotic spirit, it had superb dialogue, it had awesome performances from Kajol and Saif Ali Khan. And I put in my sincere efforts." ## The star is happy that the warrior got his due. ## He added: "I'm so happy this unsung warrior got his due at the Indian box-office and got appreciated globally as well." ## Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared with IANS that from the very beginning, Ajay Devgn's 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior' promised to be a huge success. ## "It had all the elements that pulled audiences to the theatre - great story, visionary execution, incredible star cast, class apart VFX and the list could just go on. The film grossed Rs 3.67 billion ($49 million) worldwide and was declared a blockbuster." ## Adarsh added that not only did it create a national stir but it also received international recognition. ## He shared: "It's been two years since we have seen the kind of success 'Tanhaji' achieved not only at the box-office but also acclaimed by the audiences globally. Mumbai, December 29 - Ranveer Singh-led cricket biopic, "83" has become the second Bollywood film during the covid-19 pandemic to gross Rs. 100 crores worldwide. The first film to reach the milestone and of course, finishing far ahead of it is Akshay Kumar's "Sooryavanshi", which will also finish 2021 as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year with a total worldwide total of Rs. 293 crores. ## The Kabir Khan-directed "83", meanwhile, has earned Rs. 107.89 crores so far in just 5 days. At the Indian box office, it has grossed Rs. 71.98 crores for all languages while at the overseas, it minted Rs. 35.91 crores. Before "83" and "Sooryavanshi", Tiger Shroff's "Baaghi 3" (March 2020) was the last film to reach the Rs. 100 crores worldwide. ## Though the box office numbers of "83" aren't as strong as those of "Sooryavanshi" (at the same time), the movie hasn't disappointed with whatever it has managed to collect, knowing the circumstances it is playing currently in theaters. "Sooryavanshi" had enjoyed almost a free run for at least two weeks at the box office, plus, the second wave was almost died down by then.## "83", which was one of the two films with "Sooryavanshi" to hold back for nearly two years for the theatrical release, however, unlike "Sooryavanshi" is facing a double clash with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Pushpa - The Rise", plus, the threat of the third wave is growing day by day, which is leading to night curfews and theaters shut down in the some of the states.## The makers of "83", meanwhile, will enjoy the postponement announcement of Shahid Kapoor's "Jersey", which was slated for December 31st release. Mumbai, December 29 - Akshay Kumar-fronted cop-drama "Sooryavanshi" will finish 2021 as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. The Rohit Shetty-directed stood tall among most of the films during the covid-19 pandemic year and delivered what the film industry had hoped from this biggie. ## "Sooryavanshi" was supposed to release in March 2020. However, the covid-19 pandemic left the makers with no choice but to postpone it. It was later announced for April 30, 2022, and once again, the second wave of the pandemic delayed the plans. ## Just when the rumors started making noises about the "Sooryavanshi's" direct OTT release, the makers announced its theatrical release on the occasion of Diwali after cinemas in Maharashtra were permitted to operate from October 22. And this time, things went as per plan and the film finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel and was released on November 5.## "Sooryavanshi" was Bollywood's best foot forward to bring the audiences back to theaters in large numbers and to their grace, the audience rushed to theaters to watch the film. The movie took the opening of Rs. 26.29 crores, which delighted the entire film industry and exhibitors. It carried the momentum and finished the 3-day opening weekend on high with Rs. 77.06 crores, followed by Rs. 120.66 crores first full week. ## The 4th film in Rohit Shetty's cop universe had another excellent second week with Rs. 45.57 crores. The first two week's collection of "Sooryavanshi" wasn't surprising as it enjoyed a solo release before the next Bollywood release on November 19. Even after new releases, the strong word of mouth helped it to dominate the collection in the following weeks. In the next 4 weeks, "Sooryavanshi" netted Rs. 29.10 crores, despite the competition with other releases, plus, the movie was made available on Netflix after 28 days.## "Sooryavashi" kept pushing towards Rs. 200 crores mark, it finally ended its entire box office India run at approx Rs. 196 crores net. Overseas, the movie grossed Rs. 62.3 crores, helping its worldwide total to finish at approx 293 crores gross. It is produced by Dharma Productions, Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty Productions, and Cape Of Good Films.## It will finish as the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2021. It also becomes Akshay's first HGOTY of his career after coming close to it in the past. It also stars Katrina Kaif as the female lead, and this marks her 3rd film to finish as HGOTY. Mumbai, December 28 - The South Indian films are expanding their wings in the Hindi-speaking market and even edging ahead of most of the outright Bollywood titles. After testing the blockbuster success with "Baahubali" and "KGF", another South Indian film in the form of "Pushpa - The Rise" has emerged as a successful affair in Hindi. ## "Pushpa - The Rise" marks Telugu superstar Allu Arjun's maiden Pan-India outing, and he couldn't have asked for a bigger and better launch in other languages, especially in Hindi. The Sukumar-directed is having a consistent run at the Hindi box office, earning approx Rs. 39.66 crores in the first 11 days, despite the limited shows and tough competition with biggies, likes "83" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home". ## The action-thriller film has shown a tremendous hold at the Hindi box office over the 11 days and didn't drop a single sign of going to the back seat. Before the second week completes, "Pushpa - The Rise" should cross Yash-starrer Kannada film, "KGF: Chapter 1's" lifetime Hindi net total of Rs. 44.42 crores and emerge as the second biggest Hindi (dubbed) launch of a South India actor.## Prabhas's "Baahubali - The Beginning" (2015) is currently the highest-grossing debut Pan-India film in Hindi for a South Indian actor. This record, however, is likely to be shattered by the upcoming SS Rajamouli's "RRR", which is scheduled to release on January 7. ## "Pushpa - The Rise", meanwhile, is likely to continue its strong run before "RRR" arrives, and will aim to cross Rs. 50 crore (looks inevitable) lifetime Hindi total to emerge as a superhit outing. Overall, "Pushpa" currently stands at Rs. 183 crores for all languages, and heading towards Rs. 200 crores net. Los Angeles, Dec 26 (IANS) "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is well on its way to becoming the first pandemic-era movie (and the first since 2019's "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker") to net over $1 billion in earnings at the global box office. ## Trade analysts were confident that the finale of the Tom Holland-led trilogy would establish this milestone on Sunday (Monday morning, IST) after the film added another $19.6 million from 4,336 theatres across North America on Friday, putting the film well within grasping distance of picking up $92 million to $100 million over the traditional weekend. ## Reporting these figures, 'Variety' commented: "Those are huge box office receipts at a time when several new films (such as 'The Matrix Resurrections', 'Sing 2', and 'The King's Man') are opening nationwide to notable ticket sales." Despite concerns about the Omicron variant of Covid-19, the domestic box office will reach its highest levels for a single weekend since 2019 during the lucrative Christmas corridor. ## Should estimates hold, according to 'Variety', the latest Spidey adventure will have made $478 million in its first 10 days across domestic cinema theatres. Mumbai, December 26 - "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is keeping its eye on history after zooming past a coveted $1 billion mark at the global box office over the Christmas weekend, becoming the first to reach the milestone since 2019's "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" ($1.073 billion in December 2019).## Till Friday, "No Way Home" scored around $920 million globally and will spend Christmas Day swinging past the $1 billion mark. It becomes the 49th film to go past $1 billion worldwide grosses and the biggest grosser of 2021, going past China's "The Battle at Lake Changjin" ($904M). The Spider-Man film is doing it without getting released in China, which is the biggest movie market in the world at the moment. ## "No Way Home" is only the fifth film to achieve the $1 billion global box office without China. In the past, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" ($1.06B in 2006), "The Dark Knight" ($1B in 2008), "Alice in Wonderland" ($1.02B in 2010), and "Joker" ($1.07B in 2019) were able to score these rare feet. ## The finale of Tom Holland's first Spider-Man trilogy has already become the top-grossing domestic title of Sony Pictures, passing the $402 million unadjusted domestic cume of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. Released on December 15 ahead of the USA release (Dec. 17), "No Way Home" has become the highest-grossing title at the worldwide box office in 2021, surpassing China's The Battle At Lake Changjin.## The Marvel/Sony film will top the inevitable $1 billion global box office mark on most probably Christmas Day 2021 and will become the first title to reach the milestone in two years. It will also become the second-fastest film to reach the $1 billion mark, joining "Avengers: Infinity War" doing it in just 11 days. Only "Avengers: Endgame" has done it faster in just 5 days. Endgame is also the second-highest-grossing film of all time.## "No Way Home" is setting new box office records all without China, which has been the second biggest market for a Hollywood title after North America. Los Angeles, Dec 25 (IANS) Tom Holland-starrer 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' has become the biggest movie of the year worldwide. ## It's set to cross the $1 billion mark on Christmas Day, reports variety.com. ## At 11 days, it would be the second-fastest to hit that milestone (behind 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame' at five days and tied with 2018's 'Avengers: Infinity War'). It would also be the first theatrical release of the pandemic to join the billion-dollar club even without China, the largest box-office market in the world. ## 'No Way Home' made $29.3 million domestically on Thursday, bringing its seven-day gross to $385.8 million, the third-highest seven-day gross of all time, the highest seven-day gross in the 'Spider-Man' franchise, and the second-highest seven-day gross ever for December and for a superhero film. ## The Thursday earning is the third-highest Thursday gross of December of all time, and the highest Thursday take for Sony, the 'Spider-Man' franchise and for a superhero film. ## Internationally, it brought in $32.2 million on Thursday, bumping its overseas total to $490.2 million and global haul to $876.0 million. ## 'The Matrix Resurrections', meanwhile, made $6.4 million on Wednesday and $4.1 million on Thursday from 3,552 venues in North America for a two-day total of $10.5 million. Picking up 20 years after 2003's 'The Matrix Revolutions', the sci-fi adventure is expected to finish the holiday weekend with $40 million to $50 million. The first week's collections of Pushpa: The Rise is 26.50 Cr Net which is excellent considering many outright Hindi films didn't do these numbers in their lifetime run. ## Pushpa: The Rise started with a decent opening day number but the film picked up due to the appreciation to record an excellent first-weekend collection.
