Mumbai, December 16 - Marvel Studios once again proved why it is such a huge movie brand in India. The studio's latest superhero movie in association with Sony/Colombia Pictures, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is off to a thundering an estimated Rs. 40.00 crores gross on an opening day in India across languages.## Released on a non-holiday (Thursday), the Tom Holland-fronted scored the 3rd biggest box office total in India since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, only behind Telugu movie "Vakeel Saab" (Rs. 46.50 cr.), and Tamil blockbuster "Master" (Rs. 40.40 cr). It may cross Master day 1 when the final number comes and take the second spot. ## The large share of the opening day's collection came through the English version, followed by Hindi. In Hindi, "No Way Home" scored in the range of Rs. 7-8 crores, making it the second-best opening after Akshay Kumar's blockbuster "Sooryavanshi's" Rs. 26.29 crores net, in 2021. ## Among the Hollywood movies in India, the Jon Watts-directed falls at the second rank, only after Marvel's own flick, "Avengers: Endgame" (2019), which opened to a massive Rs. 53.60 crores net over 2845 screens. "No Way Home", however, has had the widest release ever for a Hollywood movie in India, releasing over 3264+ screens. Eyeing to end the current year as the top-grossing film at the worldwide box office, "No Way Home" debuted on December 15 in some of the international markets ahead of domestic (North America) release on December 17. ## The Marvel/Sony/Colombia pic, directed by Jon Watts, has had the strongest start in Korea since "Avengers: Endgame's" $8.2M, grossing $5.3M on Wednesday (Dec. 15). It beat Disney's "Frozen 2's" $4.2M and dominated an impressive 96.9% of the total market share over there on an opening day. The opening day's footfalls were approx. 636K there, which is the biggest for a Spider-Man movie, 11% over as compared to 2019's pre-pandemic Spider-Man: Far From Home. ## The movie scored the best Wednesday launch ever in the UK with £7.63M ($10.1M). That debut topped the $6.6M first day of James Bond's "No Time To Die" which bowed on September 30. In Mexico, where it also debuted on Wednesday, "No Way Home" grossed a mighty $9M, topping "Avengers: Endgame", for the biggest-ever opening day in the market.## In Russia, the movie opened to $3.6M on an opening day, followed by $3.3M in Italy. Mumbai, December 13 - Rohit Shetty's "Sooryavanshi" is turning out to be a true box office monster. There have been many films in the past that died down after the first week itself, and then, there is "Sooryavasnhi", which is into its 6th week and still going strong despite limited shows. ## The covid-19 pandemic has posed many challenges in front of the Indian film industry, especially Bollywood. There haven't been many theatrical releases in the last 18 months or so and those released didn't perform up to their potential. Honestly, there haven't been any audience-appealing films that could have forced people to visit theaters. ## However, things changed after the second covid-19 wave as Bollywood decided to step ahead. While many films are still not performing to their potential (not bad either), Sooryavanshi has been exceptional on every front. This Akshay Kumar-starrer was Bollywood's best foot forward to bring the industry back to its strong feet, and not surprisingly, it has performed like that at the box office. ## Released over Diwali weekend, "Sooryavanshi" has had a free run at the box office for at least two weeks and it took full advantage of that by earning over Rs. 165 crores. It is the first Rs. 100 crore Bollywood grosser at the domestic box office during the pandemic. It was expected TBH since it had a star element attached to it, plus, it was mass appealing, which helped it to perform significantly well on single screens. ## After finishing two weeks' run, there was a big challenge for "Sooryavanshi" to carry the momentum because of the new release in form of "Bunty Aur Babli 2" (Nov. 19), and then "SMJ2" (Nov. 25), and "Antim: The Final Truth" (Nov. 26). "Sooryavanshi" passed that challenge with flying colors and netted Rs. 18.68 crores in the 3rd week, followed by Rs. 6.43 crores in the 4th week. And this all happened with Maharasthra cinemas operating with 50% occupancy. ## The 4th week was probably the toughest for "Sooryavanshi" as it had to compete with two mass-oriented films at the box office. It not only rose through that challenge but also maintained that momentum in the 5th week as well as 6th weekend despite new releases in the form of "Tadap" and "Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui". ## "Sooryavanshi" will most probably be finished around Rs. 197 crores India net from the current total of Rs. 195.04 crores after 38 days. Mumbai, December 13 - Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor-starrer "Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui" has had a fairly healthy opening weekend at the box office. ## "Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui" has had a decent start on Friday with the opening day collection of Rs. 3.75 crores. However, as it often happens with Ayushmann's film, the movie grew over the weekend, thanks to the strong word of mouth from critics and audiences. ## It jumped by 29.87% (biggest 2nd-day jump during covid-19 for a Hindi movie) for Rs. 4.87 crores on Saturday and then, another 21.36% jump on Sunday for Rs. 5.91 crores to finish the opening weekend Rs. 14.53 crores India net. The movie is heading towards Rs. 23-24 crores in the first week.## Released over 2500 screens in India, "Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui" dominates metro multiplexes, Delhi, NCR, and Chandigarh while it also witnesses growth in Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru. Overseas, the Abhishek Kapoor-directed has so far grossed approx Rs. 2.85 crores.
