Can Prabhas' Baahubali: The Epic Make Baahubali 2 To Reclaim Indian Box Office Crown?

BY SACNILK

Hyderabad, October 30 - Maverick filmmaker SS Rajamouli and Pan India superstar Prabhas' action drama Baahubali: The Conclusion ruled the Indian box office for nearly eight years as the country's highest-grossing film, before that reign came to an end when Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule took over the top position following its phenomenal success in December last year. There is currently a difference of around 50 crores between the two films in favour of Pushpa 2. But the tables may yet turn with the upcoming re-release of the Baahubali duology, now presented as Baahubali: The Epic. This special cut will bring together both films — Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion — into a single, nearly 3-hour-45-minute cinematic experience. The advance booking of Baahubali: The Epic is robust, better than all the films which have been re-released at the Indian box office so far. To earn over 50 crores gross for the film shouldn't be a big ask, but it has to double it up to make Baahubali 2 reclaim its top spot. Baahubali: The Epic poses a unique case for box office accounting, as it includes both parts in one continuous feature, so the total earnings of its can't be attributed to just Baahubali 2. Since this is a one-of-a-kind case, what can be done is to split the collection of Baahubali: The Epic in half and add to both parts. If done so, the re-release will need to gross over 100 crores at the Indian box office to bridge the 50+ crores gap between Baahubali 2 and Pushpa 2. For the record, no film has ever grossed more than 50 crores in its re-release run at the Indian box office, so it needs to be seen how Baahubali: The Epic fares, even though it is certain to become the biggest Indian re-release grosser of all time. Whether it can also help Baahubali 2 reclaim its long-held crown remains to be seen, but one thing is certain — this epic is about to make history again. Stay tuned...

Baahubali: The Epic Tops 10 Crore Advance Booking Worldwide; Sets Up Big Release In Overseas Markets

BY SACNILK

Hyderabad, October 29 - Director SS Rajamouli's action drama Baahubali: The Epic, which is a nearly 4-hour one cut version of his Baahubali duology, is roaring in the advance booking ahead of its 31st October release. The bookings are better than many of the mid-budget films, let alone the re-release title. Starring Prabhas in the title role alongside Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Sathyaraj and Tamannah Bhatia, the film has topped 10 crores advance booking gross collection for the opening day, including premieres. In India, the bookings have crossed 5 crores, while overseas pre-sales are nearing the 5 crore mark, driven by North America. The pre-sales of Baahubali - The Epic are already higher than the lifetime collection of Indian re-release titles. It is certain to become the biggest Indian re-release grosser of all time, and will probably become the first film to cross the 100 crore mark. Meanwhile, the makers have locked a wide release of the film in international markets. In the USA, the film will be released in over 400 theatres, followed by 210 in the UK & Ireland, over 150 in the UAE & GCC, 144 in Australia and New Zealand, and over 100 theatres in Southeast Asia. Overall, the movie will be released in over 1150 theatres across overseas markets, which is easily the biggest for an Indian re-release movie. Produced by Arka Media Works, Baahubali: The Epic has been censored with U/A with an approved theatrical runtime of 3 hours and 45 minutes. The first half, which contains scenes from Baahubali: The Beginning, is nearly 1 hour and 42 minutes, while the second half (Baahubali: The Conclusion) is about 2 hours and 3 minutes. Stay tuned...

Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 Crosses 3 Crore Admissions To Become Most Watched Film of 2025 In India; Tops 1 Crore Footfalls In Hindi

BY SACNILK

Bengaluru, October 28 - Amid the disappointing news of early OTT release, Risabh Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 continues to draw big crowds in theatres. In a massive milestone, it has become the highest-grossing Indian film of the year, beating the Bollywood blockbuster Chhaava. Produced by Hombale Films, Kantara Chapter 1 has been one of its kind phenomena for Kannada cinema. The film's box office juggernaut has made it the most-watched Indian title of 2025 in theatres. In 26 days so far, the film has sold approximately 3.20 crores tickets in India across all languages, beating Chahava's 3.10+ crores admissions to become the number 1 movie of 2025. Kantara Chapter 1 is the second movie of 2025 and the ninth film in the post-pandemic era to top 3 crores (30 million) footfalls at the Indian box office. Yash-fronted KGF Chapter 2 remains the biggest blockbuster with over 5 crores admissions, and it, along with Kantara 2, is the only Kannada film of all time to reach 3 crores admissions. The prequel to 2022's blockbuster has also topped 1 crore (10 million) footfalls in the dubbed Hindi version, becoming the first South Indian film of 2025 to do so. The original Kannada version is the number 2 with around 80 lakh admissions, while Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil versions have sold over 1.30 crores tickets so far. Meanwhile, the film has grossed approximately 817 crores worldwide, including around 707 crores in India and 110 crores overseas, after 26 days. It was well on course to finish with 875+ crores worldwide, but the target now looks difficult after makers confirmed its digital release from October 31 in South Indian versions. Stay tuned...

Kantara Chapter 1 On OTT: A Questionable and Disappointing Move From Makers of Rishab Shetty's Blockbuster

BY SACNILK

Bengaluru, October 27 - The exhibitors of Karnataka finally had a moment of joy this year with Rishab Shetty-fronted Kantara Chapter 1 doing excellent business and bringing people to theatres in big numbers. They were hoping for more to come, but their happiness has been cut short by a disappointing and questionable move by the makers. Despite the film continuing its very good run and showing remarkable stability across regions, the team has decided to drop it on the OTT platform much sooner than expected. At a time when almost every South Indian film is dropping on OTT after just four weeks of its theatrical release, Kantara Chapter 1 had the perfect chance to break the trend. The Rishab Shetty directorial was still performing excellently at the box office, showing no signs of slowing down even in its fourth weekend. With a strong hold and exceptional word of mouth, the film was well on its way to extending its glorious run and setting new benchmarks for long theatrical sustainability in the post-pandemic era. In its fourth weekend alone, the film grossed over 30 crores domestically, with nearly half of that coming from the Kannada version. These are solid numbers for a film that opened to massive numbers in its initial week, proving its continued dominance and audience connection. A longer exclusive theatrical run could have easily pushed the film's lifetime total significantly higher, adding many more crores to its already stellar tally. However, the makers have now officially confirmed the film's OTT release. The period folk actioner will drop on Amazon Prime Video on October 31st in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil versions, four weeks after its release. This decision comes across as both disappointing and questionable, especially considering the film's ongoing momentum at the ticket windows. In opting for an early digital release, the team may have left considerable box office potential untapped, undermining what could have been an even more historic run. Beyond the numbers, this move also affects exhibitors, particularly in Karnataka, where Kantara Chapter 1 has been a saviour amid a dull theatrical year. A longer theatrical run would have benefited both the film's legacy and the local theatre chains, reinforcing the power of strong content to sustain on the big screen. Instead, this shortened window feels like a missed opportunity for both the industry and the film's makers, and more importantly, for the theatre ecosystem, which has been struggling this year in Karnataka. Three Films, Three Blockbusters: Pradeep Ranganathan's Unstoppable Box Office Streak Continues With Dude

BY SACNILK

Chennai, October 27 - At a time when even top stars are struggling to deliver box office success, there comes a young actor, who debuted as a lead hero a couple of years back and is turning everything into gold he touches. Pradeep Ranganathan is having a dream run at the box office and has emerged as one of Tamil cinema's most bankable stars. The actor-filmmaker, who made his debut as a lead hero with the new-age romantic comedy Love Today in 2022, has now achieved a rare feat, which probably no one had before — three consecutive blockbusters in as many films. His latest outing, Dude, continues to dominate the box office, reaffirming his golden touch. It all began with Love Today, which struck a strong chord with youth audiences for its relatable story and modern take on relationships. The film went on to become a massive blockbuster, grossing around 84 crores worldwide — a staggering figure for a debutant actor. Pradeep not only headlined the film but also directed it, proving his versatility early in his career. He followed that success with Dragon, a coming-of-age comedy-drama that released earlier this year. The film exceeded all expectations, emerging as one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2025 with collections crossing 150 crores worldwide. With its emotional depth and youthful energy, Dragon cemented Pradeep's position as a crowd favourite. Now, Dude has turned the actor's success streak into a perfect hat-trick. Currently in its second week, the film has already grossed over 100 crores worldwide and continues to hold strong at the box office. With two 100 crore grossers among his first three films, Pradeep Ranganathan has set a new benchmark for young actors — becoming the first in Tamil cinema to achieve such success so early in his career. The young sensation has one more release to close the year. Director Vignesh Shivan's science fiction romantic comedy, Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), is scheduled to release on December 18, 2025. The buzz for the film is good, with promos released so far receiving big thumbs up from viewers. Stay tuned...

Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma Nears 100 Cr Net As Harshvardhan Rane's Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat Scores Unexpected Success

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, October 27 - Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma had a good 6-day extended opening weekend at the box office. The vampire comedy has struck a chord with its targeted audiences for its connection with Maddock Horror Comedy Universe and the chemistry between the lead pair. With positive word of mouth, the film has held its ground well despite competition during the Diwali festive period. The film's extended first weekend collections have been good, recording around 91 crores net in six days and 125 crores gross worldwide. The film is expected to enter the 100 crores club in 8 days. While the weekend trajectory was good, it wasn't exceptional, making the upcoming weekdays crucial in determining its final box office outcome. The lack of new Bollywood releases this coming week is expected to help Thamma have a sustained run. Meanwhile, Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa's romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has turned out to be a dark horse at the box office. Despite limited buzz and underwhelming critics' reviews, the film has managed to find its audience, especially among young people and in smaller towns. The film has already crossed 50 crores worldwide within six days, including 49 crores gross (41.50 crores net) from India, signalling a strong acceptance. The film has become Rane's biggest grosser with today's collection. Together, Thamma and Deewaniyat have infused fresh energy into the box office, proving that content variety and genuine audience engagement still hold the key to success. While Thamma is now aiming for a steady run, Deewaniyat has earned its spot as one of the year's most surprising success stories. Stay tuned...

Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 Outgrosses Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava To Become Highest-Grossing Indian Film of 2025

BY SACNILK

Bengaluru, October 26 - Hombale Films' period folk actioner Kantara: Chapter 1 continues to create history at the box office. The film has now surpassed the lifetime worldwide collection of Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna's Chhaava to emerge as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025. The prequel, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, has been performing exceptionally well across all markets, showing remarkable hold even in its fourth week. On its 25th day, Kantara: Chapter 1 has overtaken Chhaava, which had finished its lifetime run with a total of around 808 crore. With this feat, the film has rewritten box office records for the year by becoming the biggest Indian grosser. The movie's collections have been rock solid in the Hindi belt and the South, with overseas markets adding significantly to its global tally. Produced by Hombale Films, Kantara 2 became the first film to cross the 200 crore mark in Karnataka, and currently stands at around 235 crores in 25 days. The Hindi belt has performed equally good with collections more or less similar to Karnataka gross, while it is also strong in Telugu states, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. The film has drawn praise for its powerful storytelling, cultural depth, and Rishab Shetty's commanding performance. Despite facing competition from several big-ticket releases in October, the film maintained extraordinary momentum due to strong word-of-mouth and repeat viewership. Its success across languages has made it a true pan-India phenomenon. With this milestone, Kantara: Chapter 1 not only becomes the top-grossing film of 2025 but also joins the elite list of Indian films to cross 800 crore worldwide. The movie's theatrical run is still far from over, as the movie aims to finish around 875 crores worldwide. Stay tuned...

The film continues to maintain a solid hold even in its fourth week, proving the lasting power of word-of-mouth. On its 24th day (4th Saturday), the period folk actioner added an estimated 4.25 crore net, pushing its Hindi total beyond 200 crore. With this, the Rishab Shetty starrer has become only the sixth South Indian film ever to achieve this feat in Hindi, joining the elite ranks of Baahubali 2, KGF Chapter 2, Pushpa: The Rise, RRR, and Kalki 2898 AD. The consistency in its collections is a testament to its wide acceptance across audiences and its strong emotional connection. Overall, it is the 45th film of all time to hit 200 crores in net collection in Hindi. The last film to hit the milestone was Saiyaara. The film's performance is even more impressive considering the limited promotional campaign and its deeply regional setting. What started as a folklore-driven story from coastal Karnataka has grown into a nationwide cinematic phenomenon, resonating with viewers for its authenticity, music, and spiritual themes. Rishab Shetty's direction and performance have both been universally praised for blending realism with divinity in a way rarely seen on the big screen. As the film continues its glorious run, it stands as a shining example of how rooted storytelling can break all language barriers and achieve pan-India success. Stay tuned...

Hyderabad, October 25 - SS Rajamouli's epic Baahubali duology returns to the big screen with a bang in a one epic cut. After seeing an excellent response in North America, this advance booking for Prabhas-fronted magnum opus, Baahubali: The Epic, has opened with an excellent response domestically, reaffirming the unmatched craze surrounding the franchise even after years of its original release. The bookings for the re-edited single-film version officially opened in Hyderabad on October 25, and within minutes, most of the shows were sold out. The film has been selling over 5,000 tickets per hour on BookMyShow, showcasing the extraordinary enthusiasm among fans eager to relive the cinematic spectacle on the big screen once again. It has grossed nearly 2 crores in India and around 4 crores worldwide for the opening day. What's even more remarkable is that this isn't a brand-new release — Baahubali: The Epic is a remastered and restructured version combining Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion into one seamless narrative. Yet, the response proves that the franchise continues to enjoy cult-level fan following across generations. Internationally, the film's bookings are record-breaking for a re-release Indian title. In North America, Baahubali: The Epic has already crossed the $200,000 mark in pre-sales — a staggering figure that surpasses many first-time releases. The excitement in NA indicates a wave of nostalgia and admiration for Rajamouli's storytelling and Prabhas' iconic portrayal of Baahubali. Baahubali: The Epic is expected to create new records by a long margin for a re-release Indian film. The initial demand has been excellent, as fans seek to experience the grandeur of Mahishmati in the most immersive way possible. With the film set for a nationwide release on October 31, trade experts believe it could redefine what's possible for a re-release at the Indian box office. Stay tuned...
