Mumbai, September 7 - 2023 was the year completely dominated by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan with three big box office blockbusters. It all began with his comeback film, Pathaan before Jawan outdid it with its phenomenal performance, followed by the third success of the year in the form of Dunki. ## Pathaan redefined the stardom of Shah Rukh Khan by becoming his first 1000 crores gross grosser before director Atlee's Jawan took it to the next level and turned out to be one of the biggest Pan India blockbusters of all time. Jawan has turned a year old after getting unleashed at the box office on this day (September 7) last year.## The action thriller was one of the first major collaborations between a South Indian director and a Bollywood superstar in recent times, and this collaboration turned out to be one of the most talked about for redefining the mass genre in Indian cinema. It was mounted on a huge scale and featured many mass moments to turn the theatres into stadiums.## Jawan was a box office phenomenon from day 1 and it broke several records in India and overseas. As said, it scored the biggest opening (75 crores net) for a Bollywood film, followed by the biggest first week of all time for Bollywood and one of the biggest in Hindi.## The box office juggernaut of the movie continued beyond the first week and eventually turned out to be the biggest Bollywood blockbuster domestically. In the original Hindi language, it is the highest-grossing movie ever with 582 crores net collection (687 crores gross) while its worldwide collection is 1160 crores gross. ## Jawan is the second highest-grossing Bollywood film worldwide of all time after Dangal which grossed approximately 1300 crores in China out of its 2070 crores worldwide cume. Without China (which is not a regular market for Indian movies), the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer is by far the biggest Bollywood grosser ever. ## The movie got some criticism for being based on outdated topics, but at the same time, it was praised for showing the burning issue of corruption in the massiest way possible. Apart from the performance of the star cast and Atlee's direction, the film's major highlight was Anirudh's music which elevated the scenes perfectly. ## As said, the extraordinary performance of Jawan (along with Ranbir Kapoor's Animal with Sandeep Reddy Vanga) opened the door for more collaboration between South Indian filmmakers and Bollywood stars as this is being seen as a major success formula at the box office. Hyderabad, September 7 - Telugu superstar Jr. NTR's action drama Devara: Part 1 is gearing up for a grand Pan India release on September 27. The movie has a tremendous buzz among the audience and is expected to take a perfect start at the box office. ## According to the latest confirmed reports, the much-awaited trailer of Devara will be released on September 10. It is said that the trailer will be launched in Mumbai during an event and the film's entire team is expected to join the trailer launch event. ## The Devara trailer rides high on the scale, drama, and action, and according to reports, NTR features in a ferocious avatar, taking on the negative force of the story – Saif Ali Khan. The makers have planned a big campaign to reach out to the audiences in the heartland of India. ## The film is produced by Yuvasudha Arts and NTR Arts. Chennai, September 6 - After the sensational opening day collection, Thalapathy Vijay's action thriller The Greatest of All Time sees a drop of around 35% on its second day which is a regular drop for a South Indian movie after the huge start. ## The concerning thing for the movie, however, is the heavy drop outside Tamil Nadu in states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, and Karnataka while the rest of the Indian market is also witnessing a drop. In the home state, Tamil Nadu, The GOAT has a good hold though with a drop of around 30%. ## According to early estimates, The GOAT is expected to score 21-23 crores gross collection in Tamil Nadu while the overall India gross is expected to be around 30 crores gross (25 crores net) in all versions on its second day/first Friday. This, however, can be seen as a good hold after the mixed reviews everywhere. ## The total domestic collection of The GOAT is around 82 crores gross (69 crores net) after two days. In Tamil Nadu, the movie is around 50 crores gross which is excellent. Chennai, September 6 - Thalapathy Vijay's action thriller The Greatest of All Time has had a sensational opening at the worldwide box office with 100 crores gross collection, making it only the second Tamil movie of all time to do so, after Leo.## Directed by Venkat Prabhu, The GOAT scored approximately 52 crores gross collection in India and 48 crores overseas for 100 crores gross start. This is the second biggest opening for a Tamil title at the worldwide box office after Thalapathy Vijay's Leo which grossed approx. 142 crores. ## The GOAT is the 12th Indian movie to take the opening of 100 crores or more globally, and it is the 9th South Indian film to do so. In 2024, it scored the second biggest opening for an Indian title after Prabhas-fronted Kalki 2898 AD. Domestically, it scored third best start of the year after Kalki and Stree 2.## The Greatest of All Time is produced by AGS Entertainment and is the penultimate film of Thalapathy Vijay before his political entry. Mumbai, September 6 - Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-fronted Stree 2 has had an excellent hold in the third week, scoring over 70 crores net collection. This makes it the biggest third-week collection ever in Hindi, beating the 7-year-old record of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. ## The horror-comedy blockbuster, directed by Amar Kaushik, had a sensational third weekend followed by an excellent hold during the weekdays to finish the third week at 70.20 crores net. On its 4th Thursday, it scored approximately 5.35 crores, which takes its total collection past 500 crores net, making it the 6th film ever to do so. ## Becoming the biggest third-week net grosser is a remarkable achievement for Stree 2 to beat a long-standing record of SS Rajamouli's directorial BB2 which still remains the biggest third-week grosser in terms of gross collection. Mumbai, September 6 - Post the Covid-19 pandemic, the theatrical has been one of the badly affected mediums of entertainment. While the business has returned to normalcy for the large-scale entertainers, it is still not the same for the mid to low-budget films as it was before the pandemic. ## The mid-budget films have been a driving force in generating revenue for the industry over the years and one of the major reasons for the non-superstar films not performing as frequently as they used to be at the box office is the negligence of the filmmakers towards theatrical medium in announcing the digital rights of their movies even before the big screen release. ## The side effect of having a premature OTT deal can already be seen in the decrease in footfalls in theatres, especially for mid to low-budget films, as paying audiences are ready to wait to watch the film for free rather than going to theatres since they exactly know when the film is coming to digital platforms. ## This overall ongoing trend needs a drastic change in the mindset of the filmmakers for the future of the theatrical medium which must be protected for the industry's own benefit. While there's a long way to go, the change seems to be happening and it's coming from none other than superstar and filmmaker Aamir Khan.## According to the report by Pinkvilla, Aamir Khan has been discussing a game-changing idea of not selling the digital rights of his films before theatrical release with all the stakeholders. It is said that "the actor's vision is to revive the social comedy genre by keeping it exclusive for the big screen for at least 12 weeks". ## One of the alarming chatters ongoing within the Bollywood film industry is that OTT platforms are dictating terms and forcing filmmakers to release their movies on pre-decided XYZ dates even if it is not suitable for the film's business. The digital platforms are also deciding the film's prices by keeping the box-office clause in the contract.## "Aamir is willing to sell and value his film based on the audience reception to the content on theatrical release. With no logo of digital players on posters and trailers, Aamir aims to keep his communication clear – experience his content only on the big screen. His idea is to go back to the good old days when viewers didn’t have any idea about the satellite premieres", the report adds.## Meanwhile, Aamir Khan has several films in the pipeline under his production house, Aamir Khan Productions. The superstar will be returning to the big screen with Sitare Zameen Par in which he plays the lead role. Chennai, September 5 - One of the biggest films of the year, Thalapathy Vijay's action thriller The Greatest of All Time was released on the big screens on September 5 amid huge anticipation. The movie received mixed to positive reception from the audience, but it didn't stop the movie from taking a huge opening at the box office. ## Thalapathy Vijay has proved in the past that his movies are critic-proof and have scored a big collection at the box office. The GOAT, as far as the opening is concerned, is proving critics' reviews as a secondary thing once again. ## According to the early estimates, The GOAT is expected to score 28-30 crores in gross collection in the home state, Tamil Nadu. The TN collection might vary depending on offline ticket sales in smaller centres which is a massive aspect of South Indian movies. ## Outside Tamil Nadu, the action thriller is looking to score in the range of 9 crores gross collection in Karnataka, and 6+ crores gross in Kerala. The movie, however, has a below-par opening in Telugu states as estimates suggest around 4 crores gross start, which is nowhere near Vijay's last film, Leo's opening in this region. In North India, the movie is expected to gross 2.50 crores. ## Overall, The GOAT is expected to gross around 50+ crores (42-43 crores net) at the domestic collection which is by far the biggest opening for a Tamil title this year and one of the biggest of all time. Mumbai, September 5 - Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-fronted mega-blockbuster horror-comedy Stree 2 has entered the 500 crores net club, becoming the first film of 2024 and 6th of all time to achieve the feat in the Hindi language.## Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 entered the 500 crores net club on its 22nd day, becoming the second fastest after Shah Rukh Khan-fronted Jawan (18 days) to do so in Hindi. Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 is the third fastest in the list with 24 days. ## The sequel to 2018's film scored approximately 498 crores net in 21 days and is expected to be 503+ crores net at the end of its 22nd day (4th Thursday). Hyderabad, September 5 - After the hat-trick of successes, Natural Star Nani will next be seen in the third instalment of the crime action thriller, Hit franchise. Directed by Sailesh Kolanu, HIT: The 3rd Case was officially announced on September 5 with the first look teaser.## The teaser glimpse, called Hunter's Command, introduced Nani's character as Arjun Sarkaar, a police officer in J&K Police. The teaser shows a group of people in Bolero cars chasing Arjun Sarkaar but little do they know that they are themselves in danger. ## Nani, driving a white Bolero car, makes a stylish and ferocious entry with bloodied hands while soaking a cigar. As the teaser progresses, the actor delivers a single and powerful line, "Get set and go". This seems to be in the most ferocious avatar of the actor yet and looks completely different from the first two films in the franchise.## The first look glimpse into HIT 3 promises a high-octane crime action thriller where Nani looks at his ferocious best. Chennai, September 5 - Thalapathy Vijay's penultimate movie The Greatest of All Time has been released on the big screen amid massive anticipation. The movie is directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by AGS Entertainment on a budget of around 400 crores. ## The GOAT had early morning shows in Telugu states and as per the initial audience reception, the movie is a mixed bag of everything. While the audience has been praising Thalapathy Vijay for playing the dual role of a middle-aged man and a teenage kid, the movie is lacking in other aspects. ## It has been observed through audience reception that the direction by Venkat Prabhu is uneven with few dragged scenes in the second half. The background music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is also getting thumbs down from the audience. The screenplay of the film is said to be stretched and it needed someone trimming, especially in the second half.## However, Thalapathy Vijay is once again getting high praise for carrying the film on his shoulder, especially the younger version of his dual role is said to be one of the best in his filmography.
