Tamil Film Industry Faces Release Halt From September 1 Over 8-Week OTT Window Dispute

Chennai, August 22 - The Tamil film industry is heading for a major release disruption as the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has announced that new Tamil films will not be released in theatres from September 1, 2026. The decision comes amid an escalating dispute between film producers and theatre owners over the minimum theatrical window required before a film can premiere on OTT platforms. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to a communication issued by the TFPC on August 22, the council has decided following discussions involving representatives of the Tamil Nadu theatre and distribution sectors. The dispute centres on the demand for films to complete an eight-week theatrical run before their OTT release. Theatre representatives have maintained that films arriving on streaming platforms earlier are affecting theatrical business and audience footfalls. The TFPC's announcement effectively means that no new Tamil films will be released from September 1 until the issue is resolved. However, the council has clarified that this decision does not amount to a complete shutdown of the industry. Shooting and post-production activities will continue, allowing filmmakers to carry on with projects that are already underway. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The development could have a significant impact on the Tamil release calendar, particularly for films that are scheduled to arrive in September and beyond. Producers, distributors and exhibitors will now have to work towards finding common ground on the OTT window issue, with the eight-week requirement emerging as the central point of contention. The latest decision marks a fresh escalation in the long-running battle between the theatrical and OTT ecosystems. While producers are concerned about the flexibility and commercial viability of their films, theatre owners are pushing for a longer exclusive theatrical window to protect cinema halls. With the September 1 deadline now formally announced by the TFPC, the Tamil film industry will be closely watching whether a compromise can be reached before the release stoppage comes into effect.

Jailer 2 first single Ala Bolelo begins the promotional rollout as the star studded sequel prepares to set new Kollywood benchmarks

The official promotional campaign for Jailer 2 has officially commenced with the release of the first single, titled Ala Bolelo. Sun Pictures shared the lyric video today, August 21, 2026, marking the first major update for the sequel since the project moved into active production. The track is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, continuing his consistent collaboration with director Nelson Dilipkumar. The visuals feature actress Shamna Kkasim (popularly known as Poorna) as the lead performer in the dance sequence, alongside the returning character of Muthuvel Pandian, played by Rajinikanth. A significant portion of the technical team from the original film has been retained to ensure continuity in the sequel. The cinematography is handled by Vijay Kartik Kannan, while R. Nirmal is in charge of the editing. For the action sequences, the team has brought on Chethan D'Souza for stunts, with choreography for this specific dance number managed by Always Jani. The overall production design and art direction are overseen by Kiran Drk. This core group was instrumental in the visual style of the first installment, which suggests the makers are focused on maintaining the same dark-comedy-action aesthetic. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The casting for Jailer 2 has become a major talking point within industry circles, as director Nelson Dilipkumar has assembled a massive, pan-Indian ensemble that significantly expands on the original lineup. While the primary focus remains on Rajinikanth, the sequel features a strengthened cast including returning favorites like Mohanlal as Mathew, Shivarajkumar as Narasimha, and Jackie Shroff, alongside Vinayakan reprising his role as Varman. The new additions for this installment are formidable, featuring S.J. Suryah, Vijay Sethupathi, Vidya Balan, and Mithun Chakraborty. To ensure broad regional appeal, the film also includes Nandamuri Balakrishna and Sunil for the Telugu market, along with Suraj Venjaramoodu and Anna Rajan for the Kerala circuit. With Hrithik Roshan reportedly appearing in a special cameo and Santhanam joining Yogi Babu for the comedic sequences, the production is clearly doubling down on the multi-starrer strategy that was so instrumental to the first film’s massive box office performance in markets like Kerala and Karnataka. Take a look at the song here: (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The film is currently in the post-production stage, with a targeted theatrical release for the Dussehra holiday window on October 15, 2026. Given the unprecedented scale of the ensemble and the massive goodwill from the first installment, industry analysts are confident that Jailer 2 will definitely surpass the prequel and set entirely new benchmarks for the Kollywood industry. The release of Ala Bolelo serves as the strategic starting point for a comprehensive promotional rollout leading up to what is expected to be a historic theatrical arrival.

Maa Inti Bangaram director Nandini Reddy reportedly in talks with Trisha Krishnan for an upcoming action thriller web series

Director Nandini Reddy has been a topic of much discussion recently, particularly following the successful journey of her sixth feature film, Maa Inti Bangaram. This project further solidified her reputation for handling nuanced, character-heavy narratives, building on a filmography that includes successful hits like her debut rom-com Ala Modalaindi and the massive fantasy-comedy Oh! Baby. Having established herself as a master of family-oriented storytelling through six feature films, reports now suggest she is looking to move into a completely different format and genre. She is said to be in active talks with Trisha Krishnan for a new action-thriller web series, marking a bold shift into gritty, high-stakes storytelling. While official confirmation from the makers is still pending, the prospect of these two collaborating on a long-form narrative has already generated a high level of anticipation within industry circles. Trisha has maintained a very high level of activity lately, balancing massive theatrical releases with her work in the digital space. Her debut in the investigative thriller series Brinda on SonyLIV was a clear success, where her performance received praise for its maturity and depth. This proved she could lead a long-form narrative effectively. As of 2026, she remains one of the busiest stars in the industry, with her current focus being on major projects like Vishwambhara alongside Chiranjeevi. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Trisha Krishnan continues to be one of the busiest and most successful leading ladies in South Indian cinema, maintaining a strong run with high-profile releases. She was most recently seen on the big screen playing a prominent role alongside Suriya in the Tamil box office success Karuppu, which arrived in theatres on 15 May 2026. Looking forward, her upcoming lineup remains incredibly packed, headlined by the mega-budget Telugu socio-fantasy film Vishwambhara. In this project, she stars opposite Chiranjeevi, with the film currently targeting a theatrical release in October 2026. This steady flow of major projects across both the Tamil and Telugu industries underscores her current standing as a top-tier star. The buzz surrounding this project also highlights the increasing trend of top-tier talent choosing digital platforms for more experimental or genre-specific content. If the negotiations conclude successfully, this series would be Trisha's second major outing in the OTT world. Analysts believe that a collaboration of this scale would likely be backed by a major streaming giant, given the star power involved. For now, we have to wait for the makers to finalize the script and provide an official update on the remaining cast and production timelines.

Jana Nayagan Week 4 Box Office Worldwide Gross Reaches Over 323 Crore as Thalapathy Vijay's Final Film Completes 29 Days

Thalapathy Vijay has officially reached the final chapter of his film career with Jana Nayagan. Directed by H. Vinoth, this project was always more than just a theatrical release; it was a farewell event for millions of fans. Looking at the data after 29 days, the movie has successfully crossed the 323.38 crore mark in worldwide gross collections. This is a significant number, especially when you consider that the film had to navigate through piracy leaks and multiple delays before reaching the big screen. If we look at the domestic numbers, the film earned a total gross of 229.88 crore in India. Unsurprisingly, Tamil Nadu was the primary driver of this success, contributing 146.16 crore to the total. Karnataka followed with a solid 30.26 crore, while Kerala and Andhra Pradesh/Telangana contributed 17.10 crore and 12.64 crore respectively. The rest of India added another 22.90 crore to the domestic tally. When comparing these numbers to previous records, it is clear that while it might not have shattered the massive ceiling set by Leo, it has comfortably outperformed most of his other recent releases like Varisu in terms of specific regional engagement. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The weekly trend shows a heavily front-loaded performance. The first week brought in a massive 153.55 crore, which essentially guaranteed the film's commercial safety early on. However, the subsequent weeks saw the expected sharp decline. Week 2 dropped to 31.60 crore, and by Week 3, the collection was at 9.90 crore. In its fourth week, the film managed to add 2.36 crore to the total. During these later days, the film showed a standard weekend surge; for instance, the fourth Saturday and Sunday saw gross collections of 0.83 crore and 0.73 crore, respectively, before dipping down to 0.17 crore by the fifth Thursday. This stabilization at a lower level is typical for a big-budget star vehicle that has already been in theaters for a month. Within this, the North American market contributed 1.58 million dollars, which translates to approximately 13.2 crore. This means other international territories—predominantly the UK, UAE, and Singapore—contributed about 80.3 crore. This breakdown highlights that Vijay's traditional international strongholds remained loyal to his final outing. The footfalls were also reflected on digital booking platforms, with BookMyShow alone recording approximately 4.25 million ticket sales over the 29-day run. Industry veterans like Tirupur Subramaniam have noted that despite the hurdles, the audience gave Jana Nayagan the victory it deserved. He mentioned that matching the collections of Vijay’s biggest hits despite piracy and delays is a testament to the star power he holds even as he transitions toward a political career. The logic behind these numbers suggests that while the film faced technical challenges and a slowing pace in the later weeks, the initial momentum from the first week was more than enough to place it among the top tier of Tamil cinema historical earners.

Vishwanath and Sons Week 1 Box Office: ₹141.32 Crore Worldwide as Weekday Drops Stay Around 18–19%

Vishwanath and Sons has emerged as a significant success for the Tamil film industry, effectively bridging the gap between the Tamil and Telugu markets. Within its first seven days, the film has achieved a worldwide gross collection of ₹141.32 crore. Out of this, the domestic Indian gross stands at ₹94.32 crore, while the overseas markets contributed a strong ₹47 crore. The film hit the 100 crore worldwide gross milestone on its third day, proving the high anticipation for this family-oriented action drama. This performance is particularly noteworthy as it solidifies Suriya as a pan-South Indian star capable of drawing massive crowds outside his home state. The audience engagement has been reflected clearly in the ticket sales across digital platforms and national chains. On BookMyShow, Vishwanath and Sons sold a total of 20.40 lakh tickets during its first week, making it the tenth highest ticket seller for the 2025-26 period. The pre-sales started with a healthy 3.06 lakh tickets, and the demand peaked on Saturday with 5.05 lakh bookings. In addition to online sales, national cinema chains reported over 38 lakh tickets sold for the week. This level of footprint across 34,777 shows nationwide indicates that the film was a primary choice for family audiences during the holiday weekend. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The state-wise breakdown shows that the Telugu market (APTG) actually led the collections by a small margin, followed closely by Tamil Nadu. Here is the first-week gross collection across different regions: Andhra Pradesh & Telangana: ₹38.40 Cr Tamil Nadu: ₹36.85 Cr Karnataka: ₹10.83 Cr Kerala: ₹6.75 Cr Rest of India: ₹1.49 Cr A closer look at the occupancy and show counts reveals how the film managed to sustain interest in both languages. On opening day, the Tamil version saw an overall occupancy of 41.38 percent, with Chennai leading at 62.3 percent. Simultaneously, the Telugu version opened even stronger with 52.35 percent overall occupancy, where Vizag hit a massive 70.5 percent and Hyderabad saw 64 percent across 343 shows. While the Tamil version peaked at night with 62.69 percent, the Telugu version reached 67.33 percent. By Day 4, the film showed its resilience; even with the typical Monday drop, the Telugu version in Hyderabad held 39.8 percent occupancy across 385 shows, slightly outperforming Chennai’s 39.3 percent in the Tamil market. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The trend remained interesting toward the end of the week. While the nationwide show counts hovered around 4,634 by Day 7, the regional stability varied. In Chennai, the Tamil version maintained a 27.5 percent occupancy across 448 shows on Thursday. In the Telugu market, Hyderabad saw 420 shows on the same day with 21.5 percent occupancy. This slight difference suggests that while the Telugu market provided a massive initial surge, the Tamil market showed marginally better stability in major metros toward the end of the first week. Overall, the language-wise net breakdown stood at ₹45.90 crore for the Tamil version and ₹35.70 crore for the Telugu version, translating to a gross of roughly ₹53.20 crore and ₹41.12 crore respectively. Although Sunday saw a minor 7.6 percent dip, the weekend momentum was enough to carry the film through the weekdays. After the expected Monday stabilization, the drops remained controlled at around 18 to 19 percent for the remainder of the week. With a total worldwide gross of ₹141.32 crore, Vishwanath and Sons has officially secured its position as the third-highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026 to date. While it currently trails behind major blockbusters like Jana Nayagan and Karuppu, which both grossed over ₹300 crore globally, it has moved comfortably past other notable releases like DC (Tamil) and Parasakti. The film is now well-placed to enter its second week, with theater owners likely to maintain a significant number of screens given its strong performance and the lack of major competing releases in the southern circuit.

DC Week 2 Box Office: Lokesh Kanagaraj starrer hits 92.70 Cr gross and surpasses Thaai Kizhavi by a 13% margin worldwide

DC has finished its second week at the box office with a total worldwide gross of 92.70 crore. The film is currently on a steady path toward the 100 crore club, supported by a domestic gross of 70.85 crore across the first fourteen days. Even as we focus on these gross figures, it is worth noting that the movie has comfortably cleared the 50 crore net milestone, reaching a net total of 61.54 crore in India. While the pace slowed down compared to the initial week, the film managed to sustain its performance throughout the second week, proving that it has a solid grip on audiences in the southern regions. If we look at the breakdown of the India gross collections, which currently total 70.85 crore, the distribution is remarkably balanced for a Tamil production. Usually, Tamil Nadu accounts for the overwhelming majority of a film's domestic revenue, but here we see a much wider spread. Tamil Nadu leads with 21.28 crore gross, but the performance in Kerala is a major highlight, contributing 17.88 crore. This exceptionally high gross in the Kerala circuit indicates that the film’s content has traveled well beyond its home territory. Similarly, the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions have performed well with a gross of 18.40 crore, while Karnataka added 8.45 crore, leaving the rest of India to contribute the remaining 3.43 crore. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The second-week trend followed a classic pattern driven by weekend growth. Day 8 started the week with a gross of 3.30 crore, but the film saw a massive 93 percent jump on its second Saturday, bringing in 6.37 crore in gross collections. Sunday remained strong with a gross of 5.21 crore, though the film faced the expected Monday drop of 56 percent, resulting in a gross of 2.29 crore. From that point, the weekday decline was much more controlled, with the daily gross numbers gradually settling from 2.19 crore down to 1.41 crore. The week concluded on the second Thursday with a gross of 1.41 crore. Internationally, DC (Tamil) has achieved a gross of 21.85 crore. Data tracked by Venky Box Office highlights that the North American market has been a reliable contributor throughout the run. As of the most recent Wednesday, the film earned 11,000 dollars in North America, bringing its total there to 735,000 dollars. This consistent international performance has been crucial in pushing the worldwide gross toward the 93 crore mark, proving that the film's appeal has translated effectively for the diaspora audience despite the absence of larger star-led productions. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) What makes this second-week performance even more impressive is the film's standing in the larger context of the year's releases. Despite having only completed fourteen days in theatres, DC (Tamil) has already secured a spot in the elite Top 5 grossers of 2026. It has successfully surpassed the month-long worldwide gross collections of major films like Parasakti, which earned 85.10 crore, and Thaai Kizhavi, which finished at 82.02 crore. Moving into the top bracket for the entire year within just two weeks—and without yet reaching its own month-long benchmark like its competitors—highlights the sheer momentum the film has maintained. It now follows the year's three biggest hits: Jana Nayagan, Karuppu, and Vishwanath and Sons. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The ticket sales data from BookMyShow further illustrates the film's impressive scale and ranking, which is especially significant given the absence of a traditional big-name superstar in the lead. By the end of its second week, DC (Tamil) recorded a total of 1.70 million tickets sold on the platform, securing the tenth spot in the current rankings of top ticket sellers. This performance proves that the film has found a strong audience through its content and directorial brand, even when competing against massive star-led blockbusters. The second-week breakdown shows that Saturday was the busiest day for online bookings with 144,480 tickets sold, an increase from the 110,410 sold on Friday. Here are the top 10 movies based on BookMyShow ticket sales at the end of their second week: Jailer: 8.13M Leo: 6.89M Coolie: 5.95M The Goat: 4.23M Jana Nayagan: 4.20M Karuppu: 4.02M Amaran: 3.98M Vettaiyan: 2.69M GBU: 2.57M DC: 1.70M

Vishwanath and Sons collects 5.89 Crore India gross on Day 6 and becomes the first Kollywood film of 2026 to enter the $2M club in North America

Suriya has always been recognized for his ability to balance intense, performance-driven roles with large-scale commercial appeal. With his latest release, Vishwanath and Sons, he seems to have struck a chord with a wide audience base. The film, which arrived with significant expectations in 2026, has maintained a consistent performance through its initial weekdays. The project stands as a significant moment in the actor's career, not just for its domestic reception but for how it is positioning him in the global market. Vishwanath and Sons has officially reached the 2 million dollar mark in North America within six days of its release. This achievement represents a career first for Suriya and marks the first Tamil production to hit this milestone in 2026. With this entry, he joins a select group of Kollywood actors who have achieved the 2 million dollar feat, including Rajinikanth with films like Jailer, Coolie, 2.0, Kabali, and Vettaiyan, as well as Thalapathy Vijay with Leo and The Greatest of All Time. Other members of this list include Kamal Haasan for Vikram and Sivakarthikeyan for Amaran. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Interestingly, the Telugu-speaking audience in the US has played a massive role in this achievement. Of the total collection in North America, the Telugu version accounts for 1.25 million dollars, while the Tamil version has contributed 766,000 dollars. This trend of the Telugu market outperforming the home turf is also visible in the domestic numbers. In the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the film had a breakeven target of 22 crore rupees. It managed to collect a share over 22 crore rupees in just five days, achieving over 100 percent recovery and officially entering the profit zone. When looking at the overall financial health of the film, the worldwide gross collection has reached 135.49 crore rupees. In India, the total gross stands at 89.49 crore rupees so far. On its first Wednesday, the film earned a gross of approximately 5.89 crore rupees across the country. This Day 6 performance reflects a stable hold, with the collection seeing a manageable drop of about 19.7 percent compared to the previous day. Overseas markets contributed an additional 1 crore gross on Wednesday, bringing the total international gross to 46 crore rupees. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The occupancy rates for Day 6 also highlight the strong reception in the Telugu regions. While the overall Tamil occupancy stood at around 20 percent, the Telugu version recorded a higher overall occupancy of nearly 28 percent. In terms of regional show counts, Chennai remains the primary market with 477 shows and an occupancy of 30.5 percent. Hyderabad followed closely with 407 shows at 25.5 percent occupancy. However, Vizag showed the highest enthusiasm with 31.3 percent occupancy across 118 shows, further proving the film's strong pull in the Telugu belt. On the digital booking front, the film is performing well among the top tier of Tamil releases. On its first Wednesday, Vishwanath and Sons sold 100,000 tickets on BookMyShow, ranking ninth on the all-time list for first Wednesday ticket sales, sitting just behind films like Jana Nayagan and Coolie. Total ticket sales on the platform have now reached over 1.94 million. In national multiplex chains, the film maintained a steady pace on Wednesday, selling roughly 14,700 tickets and generating a gross of over 23 lakh rupees. PVR led these bookings with approximately 9,300 tickets, followed by INOX with 4,400 and Cinepolis with around 900 tickets.

Jailer 2 Postponement Rumors Spark Concerns Over a Risky Diwali Clash With Ramayana Instead of a Solo October Release

There are very few actors who can maintain their position at the top for half a century, but Rajinikanth continues to prove that his superstardom is in a league of its own. As fans eagerly wait for the return of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian in the upcoming sequel Jailer 2, the film has already started rewriting the history books of Indian cinema. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel carries the massive responsibility of following up on the 2023 cult classic, which famously collected over 604 crore at the worldwide box office. The momentum behind this second installment is now being felt in the business circles, where the film has just set an unprecedented record. According to an exclusive report by Bollywood Hungama, Jailer 2 has officially secured the biggest non-theatrical deal for any Tamil film to date. Sources close to the development have revealed that the streaming rights for the film have been sold to a major OTT partner for a staggering 160 crore. This figure is significant because it not only surpasses the previous record held by Vijay's Leo but also reportedly exceeds the digital deals for other upcoming big-budget films like Shah Rukh Khan's King. It appears that streaming platforms are willing to pay a heavy premium to secure the Rajinikanth-led saga, viewing it as the most high-profile acquisition of 2026. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The marketing machinery for the film is also beginning to move at a rapid pace. Production house Sun Pictures is reportedly planning to release the first single from the movie on August 21, 2026. Given the massive impact Anirudh Ravichander’s music had on the first film, especially with the viral hit Hukum, there is immense pressure on the composer to deliver another chartbuster. There is also significant buzz regarding a grand audio launch tentatively scheduled for October 2. While Rajinikanth's landmark events are traditionally hosted at the Nehru Stadium in Chennai, the official venue for this sequel is yet to be confirmed. Regardless of the location, the launch is expected to be a massive celebration of the superstar's journey, with a planned television broadcast on Sun TV likely set for October 9. While industry chatter had suggested a potential push to the Diwali weekend due to post-production delays, Sun Pictures has confirmed that Jailer 2 will release on its original scheduled date, effectively ending speculation about a potential delay. This confirmation is seen as a strategic move by industry experts who were concerned about a box office clash with the pan-Indian film Ramayana during Diwali. By sticking to the October window, the film is expected to secure a better screen count and a solo run, providing the necessary space for its large ensemble cast to draw audiences across India without immediate competition. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The return of the character Tiger Muthuvel has created a level of anticipation that is rarely seen even for major sequels. With a record-breaking OTT deal already in the bag and a promotion schedule that looks to build a fever pitch over the next two months, Jailer 2 is positioned to be a commercial juggernaut. If the film manages to replicate the word of mouth of its predecessor, it could very well challenge the all-time records of the Tamil film industry.

Vishwanath and Sons Day 5: Film Mints ₹7.33 Crore Gross as Telugu Collections Outperform Tamil Nadu by ₹1.15 Crore Margin on Tuesday

The cinematic journey of Vishwanath and Sons has been one of the most discussed topics in the industry lately, especially given the massive expectations riding on Suriya's shoulders. As a family drama with a high emotional core, the film was expected to dominate the Southern box office. While the movie is performing exceptionally well in several territories, a very unusual trend is emerging as it completes its first five days in theaters. Usually, a Suriya starrer sees its highest numbers coming from his home state of Tamil Nadu, but the data suggests that the film is finding even more love in the Telugu-speaking states. On its first Tuesday, Vishwanath and Sons achieved a strong India gross of 7.33 crore. This indicates a steady hold during the weekdays, showing resilience despite the natural drop from its Monday performance. A closer look at the regional contribution reveals a very interesting narrative; the film is seeing an incredible response in the Telugu market that is currently outpacing its home base. On Tuesday alone, the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions contributed a gross of 3.50 crore, while the territory of Tamil Nadu brought in 2.35 crore. This continued momentum across all southern states has pushed the total India gross collection to an impressive 83.60 crore in just five days. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In terms of ticket sales, the film is still holding a spot among the heavyweights. On Tuesday, BookMyShow recorded 118,800 tickets sold for the film. To put this into perspective, this performance places Vishwanath and Sons at the 8th spot on the all-time list for the highest first Tuesday ticket sales on the platform, sitting just behind films like The GOAT and ahead of Jana Nayagan. In national multiplex chains, the support remains firm. On Tuesday alone, PVR saw around 14,700 tickets sold, while INOX and Cinepolis contributed roughly 6,800 and 2,000 tickets respectively. The occupancy in these premium chains for the day averaged around 12 percent for PVR, showing that the urban audience is still turning up. The state-wise gross report highlights a fascinating shift in demographics. Currently, the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (APTG) region has surpassed Tamil Nadu in terms of total gross. APTG has contributed 33.75 crore to the total gross, while Tamil Nadu stands at 32.85 crore. Other Southern states are also chipping in significantly, with Karnataka contributing 9.68 crore and Kerala adding 6.00 crore. This has led to industry speculation that while the film might become a certified blockbuster in almost every other center, it may end up as an average performer in Suriya's home state of Tamil Nadu. There are even murmurs that the film will not be able to cross the massive benchmarks set by a hit like Karuppu, particularly in the Tamil market. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Internationally, the film continues to draw a global audience, adding 2.00 crore to its overseas gross on Day 5. This brings the total international gross to 45.00 crore. In the lucrative North America market, the film is doing remarkably well. According to data shared by Venky, the film earned 128,000 dollars on Monday alone, pushing its total North American gross to a solid 1.72 million dollars. The worldwide gross for Vishwanath and Sons now stands at 128.60 crore. While the domestic home-state performance remains a point of debate, there is no denying that the film has achieved a massive global footprint in less than a week.

Ram Pothineni Joins Rajinikanth's Dharman as the Deadly Doctor in a High-Stakes Father-in-Law vs Son-in-Law Face-Off

Superstar Rajinikanth is currently filming for his upcoming project, Dharman, produced by Kamal Haasan under the Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) banner. Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, the movie has transitioned into its second shooting schedule in Chennai. The collaboration has generated interest due to the combination of a veteran lead and a relatively new director known for his work on Oh My Kadavule. As filming progresses, more details regarding the ensemble cast and the film's core premise have begun to emerge. The most significant development according to recent industry reports is the casting of Telugu star Ram Pothineni in a pivotal role. In a move that is being seen as a masterstroke for the film's pan-Indian appeal, Ram Pothineni is reportedly set to play the antagonist against Rajinikanth. The dynamic between the two is said to be a intense father-in-law versus son-in-law conflict. Ram, often referred to as the Energetic Star in the Telugu industry, will reportedly portray a character dubbed as the Deadly Doctor. This role marks a significant departure for the actor and suggests a medical thriller angle woven into what is otherwise described as a pakka family entertainer. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The supporting cast adds further weight to the production. Veteran actress Simran is rumored to be playing the mother-in-law, reuniting with Rajinikanth after their successful pairing in Petta. Additionally, Raashii Khanna has joined the ensemble, reportedly playing the role of the daughter in the film. This combination of established veterans and popular young stars indicates that the makers are aiming for a broad demographic. By casting a prominent face like Ram Pothineni, the production team is also ensuring that the film finds a massive footing in the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana markets, where Rajinikanth already enjoys a legendary status. Technically, Dharman is shaping up to be a high-profile venture. The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander, who has become a staple for Rajinikanth's recent blockbusters, providing high-energy background scores that define the superstar's modern screen presence. The action sequences are being handled by the renowned duo Anbariv, known for their gritty and impactful choreography in films like KGF and Vikram. The second schedule, which is currently underway in Chennai, is expected to involve major portions featuring the lead cast, as the director looks to balance the emotional family beats with the high-stakes thriller elements of the script. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) While the project is still in its production phase, the level of detail regarding the character arcs has already set a high benchmark for expectations. The collaboration between Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan's production house is being treated as a historic event in the industry. As more official updates regarding the teaser and release date are awaited, the current focus remains on the intriguing face-off between the veteran superstar and the young Telugu powerhouse. Dharman is clearly positioning itself to be more than just a typical commercial film, aiming instead to be a well-crafted genre-blender that could dominate the box office across multiple languages.

DC Day 11 Gross Records 2.29 Crore With Kerala Collections Nearly Matching Tamil Nadu Home Territory

On its second Monday, DC recorded an India gross collection of 2.29 crore. This performance brings the total domestic gross to 65.35 crore, while the total net collection now stands at 56.76 crore after eleven days. When factoring in the overseas contribution of 21.50 crore, the film worldwide gross has climbed to 86.85 crore. The 55.6 percent drop from the previous day net collection of 4.50 crore represents a standard stabilization as the film moves through its second week across 2,165 shows. Kerala is currently providing a unique support system for the film box office run. It is rare for a Tamil release to see its Kerala collections almost match those of Tamil Nadu on a weekday. On its second Monday, Kerala contributed a gross of 0.70 crore, which is remarkably close to the 0.75 crore collected in Tamil Nadu. This trend suggests the movie has achieved a level of acceptance in Kerala that is usually reserved for local productions. Additionally, the Telugu states added 0.60 crore to the daily gross, while Karnataka brought in 0.22 crore. Including the 0.02 crore from other regions, the total domestic gross for Day 11 settled at 2.29 crore. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Looking at the language-wise breakdown, the Tamil version remains the primary driver with 1.40 crore net from 1,439 shows, maintaining an overall occupancy of nearly 30 percent. The Telugu version added 0.59 crore net from 673 shows with 23 percent occupancy, while the Hindi version remains on a very limited scale, contributing 0.01 crore from 53 shows. The film is currently running across 2,165 shows nationwide, showing a healthy screen count even after ten days of release. The occupancy trends across major cities show how the audience is distributed. In Chennai, the film maintained a 30 percent occupancy across 182 shows. Kochi recorded a daily average of nearly 34 percent occupancy across 104 shows, peaking at 56 percent during the night. In Bengaluru, the Tamil version is running on 110 shows with a 25.3 percent occupancy, while the Telugu version has a 32.3 percent occupancy across 11 shows. For the Telugu market, Hyderabad lead the volume with 175 shows at 28.5 percent occupancy, while Vijayawada recorded a 38 percent night peak across 17 shows. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Digital ticket bookings continue to show steady interest, with the total sales on BookMyShow now crossing the 16.09 lakh mark. On this second Monday alone, approximately 40,000 tickets were booked through the platform, reflecting a consistent audience flow even in the second week of its theatrical run. The performance in national multiplex chains has settled into a weekday rhythm. Across PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, the film sold approximately 6,000 tickets on its eleventh day. PVR lead the count with about 3,900 tickets sold and a 10.47 percent occupancy. INOX contributed roughly 1,500 tickets, while Cinepolis accounted for nearly 600 tickets. These chains together generated a gross of about 9.3 lakh for the day. While the morning shows started quietly, the night shows saw a healthy jump to over 37 percent occupancy for the Tamil version, suggesting that the film is still a preferred choice for the working crowd.

Vishwanath and Sons Day 4: Suriya Records 9.05 Crore Monday Gross Where Telugu Collections Stay 41% Ahead Of Tamil

If you have been looking for proof of Suriya cross-border superstardom, the performance on the first Monday provides a clear answer. While Mondays are often a sobering reality check for big releases, Vishwanath and Sons has managed to navigate this hurdle to cross a massive global milestone in record time. Based on early estimates, the worldwide gross for the film has now touched 121.27 crore in just four days. This is a significant moment, especially considering how the film is maintaining a strong presence across both Tamil and Telugu markets simultaneously. On its first Monday, Vishwanath and Sons saw its India gross collection touch 9.05 crore. This marks a standard stabilization at the ticket windows after a high-energy opening weekend, following a 62 percent dip from the Sunday performance. While such drops are expected for big-budget releases, the total domestic gross has now reached a solid 76.27 crore in just four days. When you factor in the early estimates from the international market, where it added another 2.00 crore on Monday, the total worldwide gross has climbed to approximately 121.27 crore. This impressive total has been accumulated across a domestic footprint of over 20,000 shows so far. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) One of the most interesting aspects of this box office run is the massive reception Suriya is receiving in the North American market. In the USA and Canada specifically, the Telugu version alone crossed the 1 million dollar milestone in just three days. According to data from Venky Box Office, the film has now reached a total of 1.72 million dollars in North America after four days. This is a historic moment for the actor, as it has officially surpassed the lifetime collections of his previous hit 24 ($1.63M) to become the highest-grossing film of Suriya’s career in this territory. It also currently stands as the number one North American grosser for a Tamil film in 2026, ahead of Jana Nayagan and Karuppu. The battle between the Tamil and Telugu markets is currently neck-to-neck, which is a rare sight for a Tamil-origin film. If we look at the state-wise gross collections, Tamil Nadu lead with a total of 30.50 crore, but Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are right behind with 30.25 crore. On Monday alone, the Telugu version actually outperformed the Tamil version, contributing a 4.25 crore gross compared to 3.00 crore from Tamil Nadu. This balanced contribution highlights Suriya massive reach across South India. Other regions have also chipped in significantly, with Karnataka contributing a gross of 8.90 crore and Kerala adding 5.45 crore to the total. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The regional and show-wise breakdown reveals exactly where the momentum is strongest. If you look at the theater occupancy throughout the day, there is a clear and steady climb as the working day ended. For the Tamil version, the morning started with about 19 percent occupancy but grew to hit 32 percent by the night shows. The Telugu version saw even more aggressive growth, starting the day at 20 percent and surging to a massive 50 percent occupancy during the night screenings. This trend suggests that word-of-mouth is helping the film stay relevant for the evening crowds. When we look at the specific regions, Chennai and Hyderabad remain the primary engines for this run. In Chennai, the film managed to maintain over 440 shows with a solid 39 percent occupancy. Hyderabad was not far behind, hosting about 385 shows for the Telugu version with a nearly identical occupancy rate. However, the real standout was Visakhapatnam, which recorded the highest occupancy in at nearly 50 percent across its 114 shows. Even in Bengaluru, where both versions are playing, the Telugu version saw a much better hold with 27 percent occupancy compared to 15 percent for the Tamil screenings. This highlight again confirms that Suriya pull in the Telugu belt is currently driving the film's stability. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) On the digital front, the momentum remains quite healthy. BookMyShow has recorded a total of 17.23 lakh tickets sold since the release, including a strong pre-sale of 306,000 tickets. On Monday, the platform saw 150,000 tickets sold. While this was just enough to miss the top 10 list for the year first Monday sales—sitting at the number 11 spot just behind titles like JanaNayagan and DC—it still reflects a very loyal audience base. The film is currently Suriya third-biggest opening weekend ever, trailing behind JanaNayagan and his previous hit, Karuppu. When you look at how the film is stabilizing in urban centers, the performance in major national multiplex chains offers a clear picture of the weekday trend. Across PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, the movie managed to sell approximately 30,600 tickets on its first Monday. PVR led the volume, accounting for nearly 18,300 of those tickets across roughly 500 shows, with a steady occupancy rate of about 16 percent. In INOX theaters, the film saw around 8,800 tickets booked over 330 shows at 11 percent occupancy, while Cinepolis contributed another 3,500 tickets from 230 screenings with an occupancy of roughly 8 percent. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Aggregating these numbers, the film ran nearly 1,070 shows in these top-tier national chains alone on Monday. While these urban centers are maintaining a respectable pace, there is a distinct split in how the different versions are performing geographically. The Telugu version continues to do the heavy lifting in traditional international markets such as North America, the United Kingdom, and Australia. On the other hand, the Tamil version is currently leading the charge in other global territories like Europe and the Middle East. This dual-language momentum is helping the film bridge the gap between regional preferences and cumulative box office totals.

How film promo teams lost half a campaign's content to the 24-hour clock Kollywood

How film promo teams lost half a campaign's content to the 24-hour clock

A Hindi release in 2026 ran its entire final promo push through Instagram stories. Cast reactions from the trailer launch, a choreographer walking through a hook step, three days of city-by-city footage, a producer's voice note the morning tickets opened. Roughly forty story frames across eight accounts. None of it survived the week. Stories expire in 24 hours, and whoever was supposed to archive them was busy running the campaign. This is now a routine problem for anyone who tracks film publicity, runs a fan account, or writes about box office and needs the promo trail intact after the fact. Why highlights do not solve it Highlights look like the answer. Save a story to a highlight and it stays on the profile indefinitely. Two things break that. First, only the account owner can create a highlight, so a fan page or a trade writer has no control over what gets kept. Second, highlights get pruned. Publicity teams routinely clear them out between releases so a profile does not carry last film's campaign into the next one's. Content that sat in a highlight for three months can vanish in an afternoon. The archiving habit that works Pull the frames the day they go up. Not the week they go up, the day. An instagram story saver takes a username, loads whatever stories are currently live on that profile, and lets you save the frames as files. Video comes down as MP4, stills as JPG. No login involved, which matters if you are monitoring twenty accounts and have no business signing into any of them. Three tools handle this. Ranked by how little they get in the way: 1. FastDL. Loads the full current set on one screen, saves at whatever resolution was uploaded, no account prompt. 2. iGram. Works, though it wants the link pasted a second time often enough to notice across a long session. 3. StoriesIG. Gets the frames, then spends your patience on redirect tabs. The ordering matters less than the habit. Any of them beats discovering on Thursday that Monday's content is gone. What the resolution actually depends on The file you get back matches what was uploaded. Instagram stories cap at 1080 by 1920 pixels, and a lot of promo content lands well below that because it was exported for speed on a launch day. If a frame came out of a phone editing app at 720p, that is what saves. Worth knowing before you blame the tool. Nothing reconstructs pixels that were never uploaded. The line that matters for anyone publishing Archiving a public story for reference is one thing. Republishing it is another, and which tool pulled the file makes no difference to that distinction. Promo material is usually intended to travel, which is why studios put it on Instagram in the first place. That still is not a licence to lift a frame and post it as original content. Credit the account. And if you are using footage rather than a still, check what is playing underneath it: a promo clip cut over a released track carries the label's rights as well as the studio's, and the label is the party that files complaints. This trips up fan pages more than trade coverage, because fan pages are the ones reposting video. A still frame with a credit line rarely causes anyone trouble. A 15-second clip with a chart single over it can. Restricted profiles sit outside all of this. Where an account has closed its audience, those stories are not served to outsiders at all, and any site advertising otherwise wants your password rather than your traffic. What to actually set up If you cover releases regularly, the workflow is dull and takes four minutes a day. Open the saver, run through your list of tracked accounts, pull anything new, drop it in a folder named for the film. By release week you have the entire promo trail sitting locally while everyone else is searching for a reel that expired on Tuesday. Two details make the difference between a folder that helps later and one that does not. Name files by date and account at the moment you save them, not afterwards. A folder of forty clips called video_1 through video_40 is almost as useless as no folder. Two seconds of typing while the download completes turns it into something searchable in six months. And pull the whole set, including the frames that look like nothing. Story sequences make sense as sequences: the frame that seemed like filler on Monday often turns out to be the first time a release date appeared on screen. Storage is cheap and judgment on launch day is bad. The accounts that keep this discipline end up with better archives than the studios whose campaigns they are tracking, which says something about how the industry treats its own material.

DC 2nd Weekend Box Office: Grosses ₹84.31 Cr Worldwide while Achieving a Rare 70% Footfall Retention in its Second Weekend Run

DC (Tamil) is showing impressive resilience as it completes its second weekend at the box office. For a project led by a debutant actor, the ability to maintain a consistent audience volume after the initial hype is a significant indicator of success. The collaboration between director Arun Matheswaran and Lokesh Kanagaraj has clearly resonated with the public, helping the film cross the 50 crore net milestone in India. When you look at the audience trajectory, it is evident that the film is not just relying on its opening momentum but is benefiting from steady word of mouth across the southern circuits. The strength of this hold is best reflected in the tracked footfall data for the Tamil version. During the first weekend, the film recorded approximately 588,000 tracked online footfalls, excluding blocked seats. It is quite rare for a newcomer's film to retain such a large portion of its audience, but the second weekend saw a very healthy 408,000 tracked online footfalls on the same basis. Retaining nearly 70 percent of the opening weekend audience volume during the second weekend confirms that the movie has successfully transitioned from a curiosity-driven start to a sustained run. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) As of its tenth day, DC (Tamil) has achieved a worldwide gross collection of ₹84.31 Cr. The domestic market has contributed ₹63.06 Cr to this total, while overseas territories have added ₹21.25 Cr. The film officially crossed the ₹50 Cr net milestone in India during this period, reaching a cumulative net of ₹54.76 Cr. This is a commendable feat, particularly given the competitive landscape of August releases. The movie has successfully maintained a high show volume, running across 36,688 shows globally so far. The second weekend started with a quiet Friday but saw an explosive growth of over 92 percent on Saturday. This surge was expected given the national holiday, but the Sunday performance confirmed that the film has genuine legs at the box office. Let us look at the day-wise net collections for the second weekend. DC (Tamil) - 2nd Weekend India Gross CollectionDayGross CollectionDay 8 (Friday)₹ 3.29 CrDay 9 (Saturday)₹ 6.38 CrDay 10 (Sunday)₹ 5.21 CrTotal (2nd Weekend)₹ 14.88 Cr (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) One of the most surprising aspects of this box office run is the regional contribution. It is quite rare for a film led by a newcomer to witness nearly identical collection figures across three major southern states. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana (APTG) regions have all contributed close numbers, suggesting that director Arun Matheswaran’s gritty storytelling has bypassed traditional regional barriers. Specifically, the total gross from Tamil Nadu stands at ₹19.18 Cr, while Kerala and APTG followed very closely with ₹16.03 Cr and ₹16.75 Cr respectively. This level of parity is a strong indicator of the film's universal appeal in the southern circuits. In terms of theater metrics, Sunday saw the film running with 2,216 shows across India. Occupancy levels remained healthy, particularly in the Tamil version, which recorded an overall turnout of 60.51 percent on Sunday. Key cities like Chennai led with 67.8 percent occupancy, followed by Bengaluru at 59 percent and Kochi at 57.5 percent. The Telugu dubbed version also saw decent traction in centers like Hyderabad and Vijayawada, maintaining an overall occupancy of roughly 33.6 percent on its tenth day. • Tamil Nadu Gross: ₹ 19.18 Cr • APTG Gross: ₹ 16.75 Cr • Kerala Gross: ₹ 16.03 Cr • Karnataka Gross: ₹ 7.74 Cr • Rest of India Gross: ₹ 3.36 Cr (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The performance over the second weekend highlights how the film has successfully maintained its reach across different linguistic markets. The weekend started on Friday with a net collection of 2.86 Cr across 2,062 shows, maintaining an average occupancy of 32.1 percent. Saturday witnessed a massive surge, coinciding with the Independence Day holiday, where collections jumped to 5.50 Cr. On this peak day, the show count increased to 2,154 and occupancy hit a weekend high of 50.1 percent, with the Tamil version alone contributing over 4 Cr to the daily net. The momentum continued into Sunday with 2,216 shows, the highest count for the weekend. The film added another 4.50 Cr to its total with an average occupancy of 42.2 percent. Looking at the linguistic split, the Tamil version remained the primary driver, contributing a cumulative 9.40 Cr over these three days. However, the Telugu dubbed version showed remarkable stability, adding 3.40 Cr to the weekend total. Even the Hindi version saw minor activity across its limited shows. This collective effort brought the three-day weekend total to 12.86 Cr, ensuring the film remains on a firm footing as it enters its second full week. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) When looking at the total India net collections so far, the Tamil version remains the primary contributor with a total of ₹38.00 Cr. The Telugu dubbed version has also shown impressive strength for a debutant-led project, reaching a cumulative net of ₹14.35 Cr. The Hindi version currently stands at a total net of ₹2.41 Cr. These figures bring the overall India net collection to ₹54.76 Cr, confirming that while the film is rooted in Tamil cinema, it has managed to find a receptive and consistent audience in the Telugu-speaking regions as well. In the national multiplex chains, the film saw consistent activity through its second weekend. On Sunday alone, chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis sold roughly 27,000 tickets, generating a gross of about ₹56 Lakh. PVR led this segment by moving approximately 17,500 tickets with an occupancy rate of nearly 40 percent. INOX and Cinepolis contributed another 7,000 and 2,500 tickets respectively. This stable performance in the premium chains, especially after the holiday surge on Saturday, suggests that the urban audience is continuing to support the film as it heads into its next set of weekdays.

Vishwanath and Sons Overseas: Career-Best for Suriya and Venky Atluri, Grosses Over $1.50M and Needs Just $210K for North America Breakeven

Vishwanath and Sons has reached the ₹110.22 Cr worldwide gross mark in just three days, making it the fastest film in Suriya's career to enter the 100 crore club. While the domestic market provided a strong foundation, the rapid pace of this achievement was significantly aided by the response from international audiences. This global momentum has ensured that the film remains one of the most talked-to releases of the season. The international market accounted for nearly 39 percent of the total worldwide earnings, with an overseas gross of approximately ₹43.00 Cr. This level of contribution shows that the film has established a wide reach outside of India. From a business perspective, the opening day performance alone has already secured a significant portion of the overseas breakeven target, giving the project a very productive start in foreign territories. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) North America has emerged as a key region for this release, with the premiere and opening day numbers setting a strong pace at $676,000. It is worth noting the linguistic split here, as the Telugu version contributed $436,000 while the Tamil version brought in $240,000. This multi-market appeal reflects the director's ability to connect with diverse audience segments effectively. By the end of Saturday, the total in this region had already climbed to $1.24 million, with many locations reporting high occupancy levels. The momentum is expected to carry through the weekend, with trade analyst Venky projecting a Sunday gross of around $350,000 in North America. If these numbers hold, the regional total will rise to approximately $1.59 million by the end of the opening weekend. This consistent performance in the U.S. and Canada has significantly bolstered the overall international numbers. On Sunday alone, the film grossed another ₹10.00 Cr across all overseas markets, pushing the cumulative international total to ₹43.00 Cr. This strong support from the diaspora has been a major factor in driving the film’s global collections past the hundred-crore mark so quickly. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The momentum did not slow down as the weekend progressed, with Sunday projections showing that the film has comfortably crossed the $1.5 million mark in the North American region alone. Given that the breakeven target for this territory is set at $1.8 million, the movie is already within striking distance of becoming a profitable venture. This surge has allowed Vishwanath and Sons to achieve a major career milestone for Suriya, as it officially surpasses the long-standing record held by his previous film, 24. It is now the highest career grosser for the actor in this region, a feat that highlights how his international fanbase has evolved over the period of just 2 films. This success cements a hat-trick for director Venky Atluri, who has now delivered three consecutive hundred-crore grossers. Vishwanath and Sons has also become his career-best performer in the overseas market, earning ₹43 crore in its opening weekend. This figure significantly surpasses his previous international records, such as Lucky Baskhar, which earned ₹27.10 Cr, and Vaathi, which brought in ₹25.00 Cr. With these strong international numbers providing a solid base, the film is well-positioned as it targets the ₹200 Cr worldwide mark. It remains to be seen how this global momentum will sustain as the movie moves into its first full week of screening.

Vishwanath and Sons Opening Weekend Box Office: Grosses ₹110 Cr worldwide to become 2026's 3rd highest Tamil opener as director Venky Atluri scores a ₹100 Cr hat-trick

Vishwanath and Sons has hit the theaters with the kind of momentum that only a well-oiled cinematic machine can produce. Director Venky Atluri seems to have found a foolproof formula for success, officially scoring a hat-trick of ₹100 Crore grossers following the acclaim of Vaathi and Lucky Baskhar. The film arrives at a perfect time for the lead star, who is successfully carrying forward the winning streak established by his previous hit, Karuppu. If you have been watching the screens this weekend, the energy in the theaters makes it clear that this family drama has connected deeply with the audience across the southern states. The opening weekend has been nothing short of prolific, with the film achieving a worldwide gross collection of ₹110.22 Cr within its first three days. The domestic market has been the primary engine of this growth, contributing ₹67.22 Cr in gross collections. What is equally impressive is the international reception, where the film has already grossed ₹43.00 Cr. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The journey started on Friday with a solid India gross of ₹17.74 Cr across 5,034 shows. While the opening was strong, the real magic happened on Saturday. Coinciding with the Independence Day holiday, the film witnessed a massive 45 percent growth, pushing the day two gross to ₹25.72 Cr. This surge was reflected in the occupancy rates, which jumped from an average of 42.2 percent on Friday to a staggering 59.0 percent on Saturday. Even on Sunday, the film held its ground with a gross of ₹23.75 Cr, showing only a minor 7.6 percent dip from the holiday peak. This kind of stability suggests that the word of mouth is exceptionally positive. When we look at the regional performance, the film has shown incredible strength in its home territory and the neighboring Telugu states. Chennai and Coimbatore have been the standout performers in Tamil Nadu, with Chennai recording a peak occupancy of 84 percent on Saturday. Similarly, the Telugu market has embraced the film wholeheartedly, contributing significantly to the overall domestic numbers. Here is a detailed look at the state-wise gross collections over the opening weekend: • Tamil Nadu: ₹27.50 Cr • APTG (Andhra Pradesh & Telangana): ₹26.00 Cr • Karnataka: ₹7.95 Cr • Kerala: ₹4.75 Cr • Rest of India: ₹1.02 Cr (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Beyond the monetary figures, the sheer volume of people heading to the theaters tells the real story of the film's success. Vishwanath and Sons recorded over 2.03 million footfalls across the South within its first three days, and it is important to note that these are actual tracked footfalls calculated without including blocked seats. Specifically, the Tamil version drew in approximately 1.13 million viewers, while the Telugu version followed closely with over 905,000 attendees. This performance, measured strictly without BlockSeats, brings it incredibly close to the massive benchmark set by the star's previous hit, Karuppu, which had recorded 2.21 million footfalls on the same basis in its opening weekend. When a film manages to match nearly 92 percent of the audience volume of a previous career-best, it is a clear sign that the actor's popularity is staying at a peak level rather than just benefiting from a one-off hit. Looking at the specific performance in the Tamil language market, the film has secured a strong position among the top earners of 2026. Its opening weekend net collection in Tamil is currently the third highest of the year, trailing only behind the actor's previous blockbuster and the top opener of the season. The film recorded a total of 1.57 million tickets sold over its first three days. While it currently sits at the 10th spot on the all-time list for Tamil cinema's opening weekends.Blockbusters like Leo, Jailer, Coolie, and JanaNayagan, which occupy the top spots, all benefited from extended 4-day holiday weekends. For Vishwanath and Sons to achieve this volume in just a standard 3-day window shows a high level of audience density. It is also a testament to the star's consistency, as the ticket volume is trending similarly to his previous blockbuster, Karuppu, which had secured the 8th spot with nearly 2 million tickets in a 3-day run. National multiplex chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis were a major driving force, accounting for over 319,000 tickets across the weekend. On Saturday, coinciding with Independence Day, these chains recorded a peak of approximately 119,000 tickets with a strong occupancy of over 55 percent. PVR led the charge with roughly 67,000 tickets, while INOX and Cinepolis contributed around 35,000 and 17,000 tickets respectively. The momentum remained very steady on Sunday, with national chains moving another 117,000 tickets. PVR continued its dominance with 64,000 bookings, followed by 36,000 at INOX and 18,000 at Cinepolis. Seeing the occupancy hold firm at nearly 49 percent even after the holiday peak indicates that the film has successfully captured the high-end urban audience, which is critical for its long-term sustain. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Looking ahead, the path seems clear for Vishwanath and Sons to join the prestigious ₹200 Crore club. Reaching this milestone will be crucial for the film to achieve its breakeven point . Given the current trajectory and the lack of major competition in the coming week, the film has a very high chance of maintaining its steady pace. Venky Atluri has once again proven that soulful storytelling combined with star power is a winning combination at the box office.

Suriya starrer Vishwanath and Sons has officially crossed the prestigious one million ticket sales milestone on BookMyShow within just 48 hours of its release. This achievement marks a significant moment for the film, as it highlights the strong audience pull it has managed to sustain following its opening day. By reaching this mark so quickly, the movie has already surpassed the lifetime ticket sales of several notable releases on the platform, including Parasakthi, Retro, and Kanguva. It is clear that the collaboration between Suriya and director Venky Atluri is attracting a wide range of viewers across urban and semi-urban centers. The performance on its first Saturday shows a steady growth compared to the opening Friday. Between the window of 7 am and 3 pm today, the film sold approximately 219K tickets on the platform. When looking at other recent major releases for context, this puts the film in a very competitive bracket. The hourly momentum further supports this upward trend. During the 5 pm to 6 pm window today, approximately 24,640 tickets were booked, which is an improvement over the 23,860 tickets sold during the same hour yesterday. Looking at the cumulative daily count, the total tickets sold since 6 am today stands at approximately 2,93,540. This is a substantial jump from the 2,03,100 tickets sold during the same period on Friday, representing nearly a 45 percent increase in booking speed. Such a spike on a Saturday is a clear indicator that the family audience is turning up in large numbers. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) By achieving this 1 million mark within two days, Vishwanath and Sons has entered an exclusive club of Kollywood films that have seen similar rapid traction on BookMyShow. It currently sits at the 12th position on this elite list. Suriya's Vishwanath and Sons Records Biggest Overseas Opening with $1.45M Gross and Recovers Almost 33% of Breakeven Target

Suriya is back on the big screen with Vishwanath and Sons, and while the domestic response has been steady, the international markets are showing an even stronger trend. Directed by Venky Atluri, the film arrived with significant expectations, and the opening day numbers from abroad suggest that the actor's global pull is reaching a new peak. The film has officially set a record as the biggest overseas and North American opener for Suriya to date. According to data tracked by Venky Box Office, the North American performance is particularly noteworthy. The combined total from premieres and the first Friday stands at approximately $676K from 301 locations. A striking detail in this breakdown is the dominance of the Telugu version in this region. The Telugu version collected around $436K, which is nearly double the $240K earned by the Tamil version. This suggests that the movie is successfully tapping into the Telugu-speaking diaspora, likely bolstered by director Venky Atluri's previous track record in that industry. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) On a global scale, the total overseas opening day gross has reached approximately $1.45M. This is a solid start that provides a strong cushion to the film's total worldwide collections. When looking at the business side of things, the overseas theatrical rights are reportedly aiming for a break-even target of $4.25M. By securing $1.45M on the very first day, the film has already achieved a 33 percent recovery of its international investment. The trend indicates a healthy interest in the film's rooted family drama theme across international circuits. With a strong recovery rate on day one and a clear lead in the North American market, the movie is well-positioned for the weekend. The balanced contribution from both the Tamil and Telugu versions overseas highlights a broad appeal that could help the film reach its break-even goals relatively quickly if the current momentum continues through Saturday and Sunday.

Magudam Day 1 Box Office: Vishal's Directorial Debut Opens to a Muted ₹0.68 Cr Gross

Vishal has taken a big leap in his career with Magudam, stepping behind the camera for the very first time as a director. This film is not just a personal milestone for the actor but also a significant landmark for the legendary banner Super Good Films, as it marks their 99th production venture. Vishal, who also penned the screenplay, took on the challenge of playing dual roles—portraying Linga, a powerful gangster, and his estranged, simple son, Kirubakaran. With a cast featuring Dushara Vijayan and Anjali, and music by the prolific GV Prakash Kumar, the film arrived with a fair amount of curiosity regarding Vishal’s directorial vision. However, the box office numbers for the opening day suggest a very slow start for this directorial debut. Magudam managed to collect a total India gross of approximately ₹0.68 Cr. In terms of net collections, the film raked in about ₹0.60 Cr across 1,748 shows. For a film involving a star of Vishal’s stature and a storied production house, these initial figures reflect a struggle to draw in the masses on day one. A major factor behind this lukewarm response seems to be the critical reception, which has been mostly negative to mixed. Many reviewers have pointed out that the 185-minute runtime feels painfully long and that the screenplay relies heavily on an outdated 1980s commercial formula involving estranged families and generic gangster tropes. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The occupancy levels remained low throughout the day, averaging around 15 percent for both the Tamil and Telugu versions. In the Tamil market, the film saw 1,190 shows, while the Telugu version was screened across 558 shows. Looking at the regional breakdown for the Tamil version, Chennai led the way with 213 shows and an occupancy of 19 percent. Bengaluru and Coimbatore followed with 144 and 58 shows respectively, but occupancy in these regions stayed between 10 to 15 percent. Time-wise, the film saw its best performance during the night shows at 21 percent, whereas the afternoon shows dipped to a low of approximately 9 percent. The performance in national multiplex chains was also quite subdued. Across PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, the film sold approximately 4,900 tickets in total. PVR was the biggest contributor among these chains, selling roughly 3,450 tickets for a gross of approximately ₹4.70L. INOX added around 1,200 tickets with a gross of about ₹1.45L, while Cinepolis saw a minimal turnout of roughly 250 tickets, contributing about ₹40K. The overall gross from these national chains stood at approximately ₹6.50L, which is a very modest figure for a high-profile Tamil release. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) On a state-wise level, Tamil Nadu naturally contributed the most with a gross of approximately ₹0.38 Cr. The Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions followed with a gross of about ₹0.20 Cr. Other states like Karnataka and Kerala saw minimal collections of approximately ₹0.07 Cr and ₹0.02 Cr respectively. While the film has been criticized for its amateurish dialogues and weak villains, the one area that has received universal praise is GV Prakash Kumar's music. His background score is being credited for providing some much-needed energy to an otherwise flat screenplay.Ultimately, Magudam faces a tough road ahead.

Lokesh Kanagaraj has made a significant transition from behind the camera to the leading role in DC, and the box office response confirms that his debut as an actor is drawing major attention. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, known for his distinct and gritty filmmaking style, the movie arrived with massive expectations. The overall occupancy for the day stood at 32.1 percent. While the domestic gross for Day 8 was ₹3.30 Cr, the overseas market contributed roughly ₹0.75 Cr, pushing the worldwide total further toward the ₹75 Cr mark. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) On BookMyShow alone, the movie has sold over 1.33 million tickets to date. This includes approximately 55K from pre-sales, a massive 1.17 million tickets throughout the first week, and another 110.41K tickets on the second Friday. Furthermore, national multiplex chains have reported over 1,25,000 ticket sales during the first eight days of the run. These figures indicate a healthy demand in urban centers, where the curiosity around Lokesh Kanagaraj's performance is particularly high. Breaking down the performance by language, the Tamil version remains the primary driver, contributing a net of approximately ₹30.65 Cr. The Telugu version has also performed well with about ₹11.75 Cr, while the Hindi version has added roughly ₹2.36 Cr to the total net collection. Vishwanath and Sons Day 1: Suriya Surpasses Karuppu Worldwide by Nearly 9%; Domestic Gross Hits Approximately Over ₹17 Cr

Suriya is back on the big screen with Vishwanath and Sons, and the opening day figures confirm that his star power is firmly intact. Directed by Venky Atluri, who is fresh off the success of Lucky Bhaskar, the film has been one of the most anticipated releases of the season. It is clear that Suriya is successfully continuing the winning momentum he regained with Karuppu, marking a definitive end to what had been a relatively quiet decade for the actor. According to early feedback, the movie benefits immensely from its well-rounded cast, with veteran actress Radhika and the rising star Mamitha Baiju receiving special mention for their impactful roles in this emotional family drama. Vishwanath and Sons has made a solid start. The film has raked in a worldwide gross of approximately ₹31.51 Cr. This total is composed of a domestic gross of around ₹17.51 Cr and a very strong overseas contribution of approximately ₹14.00 Cr. Looking at these figures, it is clear that the movie is benefiting from a balanced demand both at home and in international markets. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) When we look at the historical rankings, Vishwanath and Sons has secured a spot among the all-time top openers in Kollywood. With a Tamil net collection of approximately ₹9.15 Cr on its first Friday, the film currently holds the 34th position on the list of highest Friday openers in the history of Tamil cinema. It sits comfortably in the company of major hits like Varisu and Kaappaan, proving that Suriya’s pull at the box office remains highly competitive against the industry’s biggest releases. What is even more interesting is how this film compares to Suriya's previous outing, Karuppu. On its opening day, Karuppu had managed a slightly higher domestic gross of ₹17.93 Cr, but Vishwanath and Sons has managed to overtake it on a global scale. While Karuppu finished its first day with a total worldwide gross of ₹28.93 Cr, the latest release has pushed that boundary significantly to ₹31.51 Cr. The real difference-maker here is the overseas market, where the current film collected roughly ₹14.00 Cr compared to the ₹11.00 Cr earned by Karuppu. This shift highlights a growing international audience that is now playing a much larger role in defining the star's commercial success. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The ticket sales on BookMyShow provide even more context to this opening. On its first Friday, the film sold about 454K tickets. When you add the pre-sales of approximately 305K, the total ticket count on the platform stands at a massive 759K. This performance has earned the film a spot in the top ten list of highest first-day ticket sales for Kollywood movies on BookMyShow, currently sitting at the ninth position. It is trailing just behind big-ticket films like Vettaiyan and Amaran, which shows that the audience was eager to catch this one on day one. In the national multiplex chains, the film maintained a steady pace despite the heavy competition in the North. According to the data, the movie sold approximately 83,000 tickets across major chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis. This translated to a gross of roughly ₹1.80 Cr from these venues alone. PVR was the standout performer among the chains, recording an occupancy rate of nearly 47 percent, which indicates a strong preference for premium screens in urban centers. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Beyond the online bookings, the actual tracked footfalls provide a clearer picture of the movies ground-level demand. The Tamil version recorded approximately 454,514 tracked footfalls, with about 320,319 of those being actual seats filled excluding blocked ones. Similarly, the Telugu version saw approximately 337,467 tracked footfalls, with a solid 233,478 when adjusted for blocked seats. These figures confirm that the movie is drawing significant crowds to the theaters in both its primary languages. Breaking it down by region, the film shows a healthy split between its Tamil and Telugu versions. The Tamil version brought in a net of approximately ₹9.15 Cr, while the Telugu version contributed around ₹6.00 Cr. State-wise, Tamil Nadu led the charts with a gross of approximately ₹7.25 Cr, followed by the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana region with a gross of around ₹6.75 Cr. Karnataka and Kerala also added significantly to the tally, with gross collections of approximately ₹1.80 Cr and ₹1.50 Cr respectively. The occupancy trends were particularly encouraging in the evening and night shows. For instance, night shows in Chennai saw an occupancy of 84 percent, while Hyderabad maintained a strong overall occupancy of 64 percent. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The overseas performance is another highlight of the day one report. According to data tracked by Venky Box Office, the film had a fantastic start in North America. The premieres alone brought in around $305K, making it the second-highest premiere for a Suriya starrer after Kanguva. By 7pm PST on Friday, the Day 1 gross had climbed to approximately $322K from 256 locations. Interestingly, the Telugu version is doing a lot of the heavy lifting in this region, contributing about $194K to the total so far.

Vishwanath and Sons Advance Booking: Is Suriya Starrer in Trouble Amid Theatre Owners' Demand?

The anticipation for Suriya's latest outing, Vishwanath and Sons, has brought with it a set of massive financial expectations and theatrical challenges that are currently the talk of the industry. According to insights from Valai Pechu, the film's Tamil Nadu theatrical rights have been secured by Primark Productions through a 40 Crore Minimum Guarantee deal. When you factor in GST, prints, and publicity, the total landed cost for the distributor touches roughly 46 Crore. For the film to reach a break-even point , it is estimated that it will need to collect a gross of at least 120 Crore, a high bar that relies heavily on a strong opening and sustained interest. This aggressive valuation is largely attributed to the success of Suriya's previous film, Karuppu. However, the market conditions today are quite different. While Karuppu enjoyed a relatively clear window, Vishwanath and Sons enters a crowded arena. It faces a direct clash with Vishal's Magudam, which releases on the same day, alongside strong holdovers like the domestic hit Jana Nayagan and Hollywood spectacles like The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Furthermore, since the film is helmed by a Telugu director, the initial buzz in the Tamil market has been somewhat tempered, placing the burden of success squarely on positive word of mouth once the first shows conclude. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) A significant hurdle currently affecting the film's domestic rollout is a standoff between the distributors and theatre owners. Reports suggest that reputed exhibitors are demanding a higher share of the revenue in various parts of Chennai. These negotiations have led to delays in opening ticket bookings in several parts of Tamil Nadu. If these issues are not resolved quickly, it could have a noticeable negative impact on the opening day box office collections, as many fans are still waiting for their local screens to become available online. Despite these theatrical hurdles, the advance booking numbers provide a glimpse of the core audience interest. On BookMyShow, the film has seen a steady rise in sales, with 16.89K tickets sold on August 11 and a massive jump to 116.48K tickets on August 12. This brings the two-day total on the platform to 133.37K tickets. Looking at the final hours before release, the momentum stayed healthy with over 32,000 tickets sold between 6 am and 1 pm on the final day, including nearly 7,000 tickets in a single hour in the afternoon. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The performance in national cinema chains also shows a respectable trend. Across the major multiplexes, over 52,000 tickets have been sold for the opening day, resulting in a gross of approximately 1.0 Crore. Breaking this down with rounded values, PVR leads the contributions with nearly 34,000 tickets and a gross of roughly 0.65 Crore. Inox has accounted for about 14,000 tickets with a gross around 0.27 Crore, while Cinepolis has added nearly 4,000 tickets, contributing roughly 0.08 Crore. While these numbers are healthy, they sit quite far behind the record-breaking pre-sales of films like Coolie at 1.82M or Leo at 1.69M, placing Vishwanath and Sons in a more mid-tier position alongside films like Kanguva and Thug Life in terms of final pre-release momentum. On the international front, the stakes are equally high. According to data from Venky Box Office, the film needs to reach a break-even mark of 1.8 Million dollars in North America. Currently, the North American opening day advance sales, including premieres, stand at approximately 245K dollars. Taking the broader overseas market into account, the total opening day advance sales have reached about 450K dollars, which translates to roughly 4.3 Crore. Suriya's reputation as the adopted son of the Telugu states is expected to boost these numbers, as the film is seeing a simultaneous release in both Tamil and Telugu languages.

DC Day 6 Box Office: Film Grosses ₹5.74 Cr as Kerala Surpasses Home Turf and Other States Stay Neck-to-Neck

As we approach the crucial Independence Day weekend, the box office remains abuzz with the performance of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s latest offering, DC. The film has maintained a remarkably steady trajectory since its release, proving that strong content continues to find its audience even on weekdays. After finishing its first six days in theaters, the movie is showing exactly why it is being hailed as a blockbuster, particularly in the Southern markets. On its sixth day, which was the first Wednesday of its theatrical run, DC earned a gross collection of ₹5.74 Cr in India across 4,715 shows. This takes the total India gross to a commendable ₹43.12 Cr. In terms of net earnings, the film brought in ₹5.00 Cr for the day, which is a minor 9.9 percent drop from the previous day's net of ₹5.55 Cr, bringing the total India net to ₹37.50 Cr so far. The film's international performance also remains steady, adding ₹1.00 Cr from overseas markets on Wednesday to reach an overseas total of ₹15.50 Cr. Consequently, the worldwide gross collection has reached a strong ₹58.62 Cr after 25,645 shows, showcasing its consistent appeal among the global audience. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The most fascinating part of this box office story is the state-wise performance, specifically how Kerala is leading the charge. In a surprising turn for a Tamil-origin film, Kerala has consistently outperformed the home territory of Tamil Nadu. On Day 6, Kerala recorded a gross of ₹1.94 Cr, while Tamil Nadu brought in ₹1.60 Cr. This trend has been visible since the fifth day, showing the massive pull Lokesh Kanagaraj has in the Kerala circuit. Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions are not far behind, contributing ₹1.40 Cr on Wednesday, which is nearly equal to the performance in Tamil Nadu. Karnataka and the rest of India added ₹0.55 Cr and ₹0.25 Cr respectively to the daily total. However, the road ahead in Kerala looks quite competitive. As we enter the Independence Day weekend, a major clash for screens is unfolding at the Kerala box office. DC is fighting for space against Vismaya Mohanlal's Thudakkam, which is holding onto screens in its second week. At the same time, Suriya's Viswanath and Sons and Vishal's Magudam are also vying for prime shows and screens. This competition is intensified by the fact that theaters in Kerala have indicated they will stop showing earlier films by August 20 to make way for the big Onam releases. Despite this scramble for screens, DC remains a formidable player in the region. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) When we break down the overall journey by language, the Tamil version remains the primary driver with a gross of ₹29.33 Cr and a net of ₹25.50 Cr. The Telugu version has also made a significant impact, netting ₹9.85 Cr from a gross of ₹11.27 Cr. The Hindi version has contributed a net of ₹2.15 Cr from a gross of ₹2.52 Cr. These numbers reflect a well-distributed interest across the different linguistic markets in India. Occupancy rates for the Tamil 2D version on Wednesday were quite encouraging, averaging at 32.65 percent nationwide. As is common with successful films, the momentum built up throughout the day, starting at 21.31 percent in the morning and jumping to a peak of 44.69 percent for night shows. Looking at the major regions, Kochi stood out with a phenomenal 65.5 percent overall occupancy, with night shows reaching a staggering 82.0 percent across 137 shows. Chennai maintained a solid 39.5 percent occupancy across 298 shows, while Bengaluru saw 20.3 percent occupancy for its 270 shows. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) National cinema chains have also played their part in the film's consistent run. DC sold roughly 17,700 tickets across the major multiplexes, resulting in a gross of about ₹0.31 Cr. Breaking this down by chain, PVR led the way with nearly 11,000 tickets sold for a gross of approximately ₹0.20 Cr. Inox followed with about 4,000 tickets and a gross around ₹0.06 Cr, while Cinepolis contributed nearly 2,000 tickets with a gross of about ₹0.05 Cr. These multiplex figures complement the strong performance seen in single screens, especially in the Southern states. Digital booking trends on BookMyShow further highlight the movie's popularity. On Tuesday, the platform saw 142.79K tickets booked, followed by 121.77K tickets on Wednesday. This brings the total tickets booked on the platform to 1,123,500. Furthermore, the tracked gross footfalls for the Tamil 2D version, excluding blocked seats, have reached nearly 1.5 million. These are impressive numbers that showcase the film's wide reach.

Superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 Reportedly Locks Biggest Post-Theatrical OTT Deal For Tamil Cinema With Amazon Prime Video

Chennai, August 13 - Superstar Rajinikanth's much-awaited Jailer 2 has reportedly achieved a massive milestone even before its theatrical release, with the film reportedly locked in the biggest post-theatrical OTT deal in Tamil cinema. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial, one of the most anticipated Tamil films, has reportedly been acquired by Amazon Prime Video for a staggering 160 crore. If the reported figure is accurate, the Rajinikanth starrer has established a new record for a Tamil film's post-theatrical streaming rights, underlining the enormous value attached to the superstar and the Jailer franchise. Amazon Prime Video is also not new to the franchise, having acquired the digital rights to the first Jailer, which became a major blockbuster following its theatrical release in 2023. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The sequel is expected to take the franchise on a much bigger scale, with Rajinikanth returning as Muthuvel Pandian and Nelson once again handling the direction.
