Toxic VS KGF 2 Advance Booking: ₹41 Cr (Blocked Seats Included) — Can Yash Repeat KGF 2's 44% Walk-In Jump?
Yash has not stepped into a new film in nine years. Since K.G.F: Chapter 2 turned him into one of the biggest pan-India stars in 2022, fans have waited through one release date after another for his next outing, and that wait ends with Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. The film was first pencilled in for March 2026, then pushed to June, and finally landed on August 26, 2026, with each delay only adding to the anticipation rather than cooling it down. For a star whose entire post-KGF identity has been built on scale and rarity of releases, that kind of prolonged buildup was always going to translate into ticket-window pressure once bookings opened.
What makes Toxic stand out is not just Yash returning to the screen, but who is directing him there. Geetu Mohandas, a National Award winning filmmaker known for festival favourites like Moothon, is stepping into pan-India tentpole territory for the first time with this film. That is a significant jump in scale for a director whose earlier work belonged largely to the independent space, and it gives Toxic a creative identity distinct from the KGF universe, even though comparisons with Yash's own filmography are inevitable. The film also carries a rare production distinction, having been shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, with a cast that includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth alongside Yash.

All of this context matters when you sit down to read the advance booking numbers, because Toxic is not a sequel riding an established franchise the way K.G.F: Chapter 2 was. It is a fresh, standalone story, and standalone films rarely open with the kind of numbers a franchise instalment commands. Judged on that basis, the early booking trend for Toxic actually reads as a strong signal of Yash's individual pull, rather than something that needs KGF 2 as a yardstick to look good.
Start with what BookMyShow has recorded in the days leading up to release. Tickets booked on the platform read 346.41K on August 21, 175.47K on August 22, 160.68K on August 23 and a fresh push to 228.48K on August 24, taking the four day running total to 911.04K tickets. That is a healthy, sustained curve rather than a one-day spike, which usually points to consistent word of mouth building through the week rather than a single promotional push doing all the work.

The advance booking for day 1 around 10.20 AM today shows the tally across all languages and formats stood at 894,629 tickets sold, translating to a gross of 31.89 crore, or 41.03 crore once blocked seats are included, spread across 17,692 shows nationwide. Hindi led the charge comfortably with over 4.64 lakh tickets and a gross past 15.5 crore, followed by Kannada at more than 3.16 lakh tickets and 13 crore. Tamil crossed 69,000 tickets, while Telugu and Malayalam trailed at a more modest 10,400 and 17,400 tickets respectively. Premium formats added their own share too, with Hindi IMAX 2D and 4DX shows alone crossing 6.9 crore between them.

At the three big multiplex chains, PVR, Inox and Cinepolis, Toxic had sold about 1.4 lakh tickets as of Monday 10.30 pm and was on course to close its advance in the range of 2.5 lakh tickets by release day, with trade trackers pegging the one day to go figure for the Hindi version at around 150K. That places Toxic fourth on the list of the biggest Day 1 Hindi advances for outright South Indian films at these national chains, behind Baahubali 2 at 650K, K.G.F: Chapter 2 at 515K and Pushpa 2 at 401K, but ahead of Kalki 2898 AD at 125K. Trade voices have called it the fourth biggest start ever for a dubbed film in Hindi, and the biggest for any standalone, non-franchise film in the language, which is a meaningful marker given Toxic has no prior instalment to lean on.
Now bring K.G.F: Chapter 2 into the frame, since it remains the benchmark against which every Yash release will be measured for a while. When its advance booking opened in April 2022, the film closed Day 1 advance at a gross of 80.30 crore across languages.

On BookMyShow specifically, KGF 2 went on to sell 2.9 million tickets in advance before release, a number that, at the time, broke the platform's existing Day 1 advance record held by Baahubali 2 and pushed past even Avengers: Endgame. At the national multiplex chains, its Hindi version advance settled at 515,000 tickets, placing it fourth on the all time list behind Baahubali 2 at 650,000, Jawan at over 557,000 and Pathaan at 556,000, but ahead of War's 410,000. Nationwide, reports at the time pointed to more than 4 million tickets sold in advance for Day 1 across all languages and formats, a scale that Toxic, as a new story without franchise history, was never realistically going to match at the same stage.Once walk-in audiences were added on release day itself, KGF 2's Day 1 collection closed at 116 crore. Every language number moved up from its advance only figure once actual footfalls kicked in, which is the usual pattern, and gives a sense of how much a film's opening can still grow beyond what advance booking alone suggests.

Toxic's Day 1 advance currently stands at 31.89 crore net, or 41.03 crore with blocked seats included, and the real question heading into release is whether it can see a similar scale of walk-in growth. If Toxic's net advance were to see a comparable jump, it would land somewhere in the mid-40s crore range for Day 1, though that comparison comes with a caveat. KGF 2 was a sequel riding years of pent-up demand for a known story, which tends to convert heavily into walk-in footfalls, while Toxic is an entirely new film without that built-in pull. Its walk-in ratio could end up lower, or it could surprise on the upside if curiosity around a fresh story from Yash draws in undecided viewers on release day itself. Either way, the actual Day 1 number once walk-ins are counted will say a lot more about Toxic's standalone strength than the advance figures alone can.

Put side by side, the gap between Toxic's roughly 32 crore Day 1 advance and KGF 2's 80.30 crore is wide, but the comparison needs the right lens. KGF 2 was arriving on the back of a hit first part and four years of accumulated fan anticipation for a direct continuation, while Toxic is introducing an entirely new world with no prior chapter to draw an existing audience from. Seen that way, a sub 2 lakh advance shortfall at the national chains and a healthy, steadily climbing BookMyShow curve through the week is a solid outcome for a standalone film, and it says as much about Yash's individual drawing power outside the KGF universe as any franchise number could. Where the actual Day 1 collection lands, once Thursday's walk-in crowds are counted, will be the real test of whether that advance momentum converts into a number KGF 2 itself would recognise.
