Director Jon Watts Exits Marvel's 'Fantastic Four' But Expected To Return For 'Spider-Man 4'

Mumbai, May 1 - Director Jon Watts, who is fresh from all-time blockbuster, Marvel/Sony's "Spider-Man: No Way Home", has stepped down from directing Marvel Studios' "Fantastic Four" movie. Watts has directed three Spider-Man movies - "Homecoming" (2017), "Far From Home" (2019), and "No Way Home" (2021).## Watts was supposed to direct one of the most anticipated films in the upcoming Marvel Studios slate, and a reboot of the iconic "Fantastic Four". He, however, exited from directing duties of the upcoming movie to take a break from large-scale superhero movies. ## "Making three Spider-Man films was an incredible and life-changing experience for me. I'm eternally grateful to have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for seven years. I'm hopeful we'll work together again and I can't wait to see the amazing vision for Fantastic Four brought to life", the director said in a statement to Deadline. ## Meanwhile, Marvel/Sony is reportedly working on the next trilogy of "Spider-Man" featuring Tom Holland, Zendaya" and director Jon Watts. While the next Spider-Man movie hasn't been officially announced yet, it is almost certain that at least the next film in the superhero series will bring back the Homecoming trilogy trio. ## "Spider-Man 4" will take some time to get on the floors and that should be enough for Watts to return to the MCU. As per reports, Marvel and Sony are hopeful to have Holland, Zendaya, and Watts all back for Spider-Man 4 at some point in the future. ## Marvel boss, Kevin Feige also supported Watts's decision to step down as "Fantastic Four" director and looking forward to collaborating with him again in the future.## "We were looking forward to continuing our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU but understand and are supportive of his reasons for stepping away. Brie Larson's 'The Marvels' Swap Release Date With 'Ant-Man 3' In 2023

Mumbai, April 30 - Yet another major development has taken place at the Marvel Studios and Disney. After pushing to 2023, "The Marvels" is now swapping the release with "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" in 2023, confirmed by Disney. ## "The Marvels", the sequel to 2019's "Captain Marvel", was originally due to open in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023, after getting pushed from November 2022, and "Ant-Man 3", was set to open on July 28, 2023. Instead, the "Ant-Man" sequel will now debut in Feb. while "The Marvels" shifted to July 2023. ## According to Variety, this was a matter of "Ant-Man 3" simply being further along in its creative process than "The Marvels", as the former has wrapped principal photography while "The Marvels" still has a bit more to go. Meanwhile, in between "Ant-Man 3", and "The Marvels", Marvel Studios' other big theatrical release in 2023, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3", will be released as originally scheduled on May 5.## "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" is expected to continue the multiverse storyline launched with the 2021 Disney+ series "Loki". Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer will be reprising their roles along with the return of director Peyton Reed. Jonathan Majors will play the main villain and a variant of his “Loki” character, Kang the Conqueror. ## On the other hand, "The Marvels" is set to tie in with two Disney+ shows: 2021's "WandaVision", and the upcoming "Ms. Marvel". Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the high octane actioner has been titled "Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning – Part 1". ## As per Deadline, Cruise appeared in a pre-recorded message with the news during Paramount's CinemaCon session Thursday morning, filming from South Africa set of "Mission: Impossible 8" from atop a biplane (hinting at the pic's next big stunt).## It will be the seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible film series, and the third in the series directed by McQuarrie, following Rogue Nation and Fallout. Los Angeles, April 28 - James Cameron's "Avatar" became the highest-grossing film of all time before Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Endgame" claimed the title in 2019. However, Disney re-released 2009's sci-fi epic in China last year and it helped "Avatar" to reclaim its title of the highest-grosser with $2.84 billion worldwide. ## James Cameron and Disney's focus is now on "Avatar 2", which is scheduled to release in theaters worldwide on December 16, 2022. Producer Jon Landau, however, announced at CinemaCon 2022, that the original movie will be re-released again on September 23rd this year, with restored pictures and sound. ## Jon Landau was talking at CinemaCon during Disney's slate presentation in Caesars Palace's Colosseum. Los Angeles, April 28 - James Cameron's sci-fi epic, "Avatar 2" first glimpse was shown at CinemaCon 2022, during Disney's slate presentation. The attendees at CinemaCon were overjoyed to see the first tease/trailer of the world of Pandora. ## The title of "Avatar 2", which has officially been announced to debut in theaters on December 16 this year, is "Avatar - The Way of Water". "Avatar 2" is set more than a decade after the events of the first film. It will capture the story of Sully family, the trouble that follows them, and the battle they fight to stay alive.## The first teaser/trailer of the movie, which was screened in 3D for the CinemaCon audiences, will be attached with Marvel Studios' "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness" in theaters from May 6. The first two Venom movies have collectively grossed $1.4 billion at the global box office to date. ## The first "Venom" movie was released in 2018 and grossed more than $850 million at the global box office along with an 81% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. It has also been banned in Egypt and Kuwait, which hasn't been confirmed yet. ## According to reports, the decision of banning "Doctor Strange 2" in the Middle East" nation is associated with its LGBTQ issues, as it is introducing the character America Chavez (played by Xochitl Gomez) who, as per her portrayal in the comics, is gay. The movie, however, has not been released yet and no one has reviewed it yet. ## The follow-up to the hit 2016 superhero film starring Benedict Cumberbatch was due to be released across the Gulf on May 5 as part of its global rollout. However, it was always going to be a daunting task to release the film in the Middle East as homosexuality is officially illegal across the Gulf, films that feature any LGBTQ references or issues often fail to get past censors.## Earlier, Marvel Studios' "Eternals" by director Chloé Zhao, was also banned in some of the Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia because of the inclusion of a same-gender couple in the film and the MCU's first gay superhero. The studio, on Wednesday, announced that "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse", which was slated for theatrical release on October 7 this year, will now open on June 2, 2023. Instead, Sony's live-action/CGI musical comedy Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile — based on the book series by Bernard Waber, will now debut on Oct. 7 from November 18, 2022. ## "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is the first of a two-part sequel to 2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse", which pushed the boundaries of animation and collected a best animated Oscar. Florida, April 17 - How many times a person generally can watch a movie in theaters, twice, thrice, five times, or max ten times? Well, one Florida man has gone way beyond that and watched "Spider-Man: No Way Home" 292 times, and sets a new world record of watching a single movie most times in theaters. ## A person, named Ramiro Alanis, has seen the global box office blockbuster 292 times, which is 30 days of seeing the movie when you add it all up, according to the Guinness Book Of World Records (via comic book). Los Angeles, April 16 - The ongoing legal battle between "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard has taken an interesting turn as Heard's former assistant Kate James has alleged that Heard's claims of physical abuse at the hands of Depp are false. ## Amber Heard is being sued by Johnny Depp, for $50 million, on allegations that she defamed him by describing herself as a "figure representing domestic violence" in a 2018 op-ed in the 'Washington Post'. ## Heard responded to the lawsuit by countersuing Depp and alleging that he physically assaulted her on 10 occasions throughout their relationship. The couple parted ways in 2016, after Heard filed for a protective order in court, with what appeared to be a bruise on her face.## In a prerecorded video presented by Depp's attorneys to the jurors, Kate James, who worked for Heard from 2012 to 2015, argued that she never witnessed Depp and Heard getting into verbal or physical altercations, nor did she notice any evidence of domestic violence during her regular visits to the couple's respective homes.## However, she said Heard did contact her in distress after arriving back at their home in Los Angeles after a private flight with Depp in May 2014. For the said incident, Heard alleged in court filings that Depp kicked her and threw objects at her on the flight because he was upset about a romantic scene she had filmed the day prior with James Franco.## Kate also recalled that he received humiliation from the "Aquaman" actress when she asked for an increased salary. Box Office: 'Sonic 2' Shoot To Record-Breaking Start In North America

Los Angeles, April 11 - Paramount Pictures' "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" was on fire at the domestic (North America) box office, and powered to a massive $72 million 3-day opening weekend debut. The film beat industry projections and record the biggest video game movie opening of all time and second-biggest in 2022. ## Directed by Jeff Fowler, "Sonic 2" topped its predecessor, 2020's "Sonic the Hedgehog", which had grossed $58 million in its first 3 days. The new movie landed at number 1 at the domestic box office and was miles ahead of the second-ranked Sony's "Morbius", which plunged by 74% in the second weekend for a low $10.2 million. ## The massive box office numbers of kids' friendly, "Sonic 2" are another indication that family audiences are feeling much better about returning to movie theaters after keeping themselves away due to the covid-19 pandemic. ## "This is an outstanding opening. With solid reviews and very good audience scores, 'Sonic' is going to have a strong run", said David A. The latest figure takes the movie past "Fast & Furious 9" to become the 4th biggest global blockbuster of the pandemic era. ## The Robert Pattinson-fronted movie has grossed over $352 million at the domestic box office (North America) while overseas, it has minted approx. $370 million. It has become a global hit and outgrossed all other movies except "No Time to Die" ($774 million), China's "The Battle of Lake Changjin" ($905 million), and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" ($1.89 billion) during the health crisis. ## "The Batman" is expected to outscore James Bond "No Time To Die" to become the 3rd biggest grosser during the said time. Will Smith Banned From Oscars Ceremony For 10 Years But Will Remain Eligible For Future Oscar Nominations And Wins

Los Angeles, April 9 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has banned actor Will Smith for 10 years from returning to the Oscars or attending any other Academy events. The decision has been taken 12 days after the first time Oscar winner slapped Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards ceremony over a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. ## However, despite the ban, Smith will retain the Oscar that he won in the Best Actor category for "King Richard", and will be eligible for future Oscar nominations and wins. ## The Academy's 54-person board of governors held a special meeting on Friday to determine what action to take against Smith. The actor was heavily criticized by Hollywood celebrities for his conduct during the ceremony and some even called for him to lose the Oscar statuette that he was awarded and/or his eligibility for future Oscars. ## Smith's suspension was expected even though he announced that he was resigning as a member of the organization a week ago.
