Bengaluru, November 17 - Kannada star Rishab Shetty's hugely anticipated folk action thriller Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1, which is the prequel to the 2022 mega-blockbuster Kantara, has locked a festive, October 2025 release date in multiple languages. ## Directed and headlined by Rishab Shetty, Kantara: Chapter 1 will be hitting worldwide theatres on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra on October 2, 2025. It will have a Thursday release, with a clear advantage over the 4-day opening weekend. Diwali falls on October 20 so that will also be an advantage for the movie if received well. ## The movie is produced by Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films and also stars Jisshu Sengupta, Sapthami Gowda, Achyuth Kumar, and Kishore Kumar G. in prominent roles. Chennai, November 17 — Actress Jyothika has called out the targeted negativity towards her husband, actor Suriya. The award-winning actress took to Instagram and shared her thoughts on Suriya's latest movie Kanguva and how it has been made to suffer with hate campaigns by media and certain fraternities. ## While admitting that Kanguva is not a perfect film with some issues, especially in the first half-hour, the actress said it is also not a bad movie that deserves such a high level of negativity. The movie was released on November 14 and was bashed left, right, and centre on social media which has already affected the box office of the film. ## Speaking about the same, Jyotika said in a long note on Instagram, "I'm surprised with the negative reviews from media and certain fraternities, as it's not done by them to this high level for the most unintellectual big budget films I have seen earlier with age-old stories, where women r stalked, double meaning dialogues r spoken and have the most over the top action sequences".## The actor-producer further said that the media intentionally ignored the positive side while reviewing the film and that has made her wonder largely whether one should ever read, listen or believe reviewers after all. ## "It's sad that they chose this much negativity for Kanguva on day 1, even before the first show was over (seemed more like multiple group propagandas) when it actually deserves applause for the concept and effort taken by the team to create 3D and such a magnificent visual", she added.## Directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green, Kanguva opened to record numbers for actor Suriya but dropped heavily in the next 2 days. Chennai, November 16 - Tamil star Suriya's big-budget fantasy action thriller Kanguva failed to score a big jump on its first Saturday which was a must after the underwhelming second day. As expected, the negative word of mouth has started cutting the audience. ## According to the early estimates, on the first Saturday/third day the all-India gross of the movie is almost in the similar range as yesterday with around 11 crores gross. The movie has seen a decent but not enough jump in the home state Tamil Nadu with an estimated around 5 crore gross collection today. ## Kanguva needed a big jump today to cover the lost ground but that didn't happen which shows the movie is facing rejection from the audience. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the movie has seen a drop almost everywhere which is concerning. It is unlikely the movie will see much turnaround on Sunday but a drop will seal the deal. ## The total domestic collection of the film after 3 days is around 51 crores gross which could have been a very good collection of any of Suriya's previous films but can't be said the same about Kanguva which was made on a huge budget. Mumbai, November 16 - Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn share a great rapport and have come together to lend helping hands more to promote each other's films, something which is lacking among the current generation of Bollywood actors. ## Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit on November 16, the duo was asked whether Bollywood lack unity when it comes to clashing their films, unlike South Indian cinema which often avoids big clashes. Both Akshay and Ajay agreed that there is a lack of unity in the industry but also assert that the same is not among the 90s stars. ## Ajay said that he along with Akshay, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan, who all debuted around the 1990s, are there for each other when it comes to supporting each other films and never made things difficult for each other which is not the case for the current gen of actors, who, as reported many a times, don't support each other's movies.## The actor also reflects on the noble gesture by Akki towards him regarding the title of Son of Sardaar. Speaking about the same, the Tanhaji star said that the title of SOS was registered by Akshay and when he needed that title for his comic caper, the latter gave the title to him without even a blink.## Son of Sardaar (2012) later became a big box office hit and now its sequel, Son of Sardaar 2 is currently under production for the release in the first half of 2025. Mumbai, November 16 - Bollywood star Ajay Devgn, who made his directorial debut in 2008 with U Me Aur Hum, has announced his 5th directorial venture which will be headlined by none other than Akshay Kumar. The project was officially confirmed Hindustan Times Summit on Saturday. ## The yet-untitled project is currently in the scripting stage. It is also not clear whether Ajay Devgn will act alongside Akshay just like his previous four directorial features. The shooting details are also under wraps for now. ## Ajay Devgn, the director is known for his technical brilliance and his film with Akshay is keenly awaited. Chennai, November 16 - In a dramatic turn of events, actress Nayanthara has slammed actor Dhanush in an open letter to him. The controversy erupted when Dhanush denied permission to use the footage of his production venture Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015) in Nayanthara's upcoming Netflix docuseries, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale. ## In a lengthy note to the actor, Nayanthara accused Dhanush of demanding a 10 crore sum for using a mere 3 seconds of a video clip from the movie in the documentary. The actress said in the note that she and her team gave up the idea of using the clips of the film since Dhanush denied giving NOC despite several requests. ## "After two long years of battling it out with you for an NOC (No Objection Certificate) and waiting for your approval for our Netflix documentary release, we finally decided to give up, re-edit and settle for the current version since you declined to permit the usage of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan songs or visual cuts, even the photographs to say the least despite multiple requests", Nayanthara said in the letter.## The actress also seemingly character-shamed Dhanush by alleging that he is not the person he portrays to be on the stage in the audio launches in front of his fans. Chennai, November 16 - Sivakarthikeyan's mega-blockbuster Amaran has unlocked one more milestone as it has become the second Tamil movie of 2024 to top 200 crores gross collection at the domestic box office after Thalapathy Vijay's The Greatest of All-Time. ## The movie, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, crossed the milestone on its 16th day after grossing another 4+ crores on the day. The total domestic collection after the third Friday stands at approximately 202 crores gross (175+ crores net). ## Amaran is expected to score a 100% jump on Saturday and then have another big day on Sunday as the third weekend is probably heading for around 20 crores gross which will take the total domestic collation to around 218+ crores gross.## Overseas, the biographical action drama has so far grossed an estimated 75 crores in 16 days and the movie has a chance to top 300 crores gross worldwide by the third Sunday. Chennai, November 16 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja which scored a huge commercial and critical acclaim earlier this year, is set to hit Chinese theatres later this month. The movie is directed by Nithilan Saminathan and produced by The Route, Think Studios, and Passion Studios. ## Maharaja was released in June this year and five months later, director Nithilan confirmed on social media that it would be released in China on November 29 by Alibaba Group. The cast of the movie also includes Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and Natty Natraj in important roles. ## It is the 50th movie of Vijay Sethupathi and it emerged to be his biggest grosser with a worldwide collection of approximately 106 crores. Some of the Indian films have done wonders in China and Maharaja clicks with the audiences, it can reap rich rewards at the box office. ## The film follows Maharaja (Sethupathi), a barber in Chennai, who goes to the police station to retrieve his stolen dustbin only for the police officers to find his intentions to be something else. Mumbai, November 16 - Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor was roped in to headline Pooja Entertainment's mega-budgeted epic Ashwatthama: The Saga Continues. Kannada director Sachin B. Ravi of Avane Srimannarayana fame was on board to direct the film. ## Since the announcement, the film, however, has faced delays and challenges and now, according to the report by Mid-Day, the project has been put on hold indefinitely due to budgetary constraints. It is said that the movie was planned to be made for 500 crores but it was escalating as pre-production advanced. ## The report quoted an insider saying that the project's scale was enormous and was supposed to be shot across multiple countries. However, after they started working on it, the makers felt it was a massive challenge to make it within the planned budget.## Pooja Entertainment, on the other hand, has reportedly been in a financial crisis with back-to-back major box office flops and considering all these things, the team led to a decision to pause production until these issues could be resolved.## Shahid Kapoor, on the other hand, has reportedly moved on from this ambitious project and has started preparation for Vishal Bhardwaj's action thriller film. The actor also has OMG 2 director Amit Rai's historical action drama based on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Chennai, November 15 - Tamil star Suriya's big-budget fantasy entertainer Kanguva might be starting to feel the heat of negative word of mouth as the collection on its second day/first Friday dropped by over 50% from the record Thursday opening for the actor. ## It was going to be tough for the film to come close to the opening day numbers as word of mouth was poor and that came into effect on its second day only. According to early estimates, the movie is expected to gross in the range of 4-4.50 crores in Tamil Nadu on its second day, which is a drop of around 60%. ## The movie is witnessing a similar drop in Telugu states for an estimated 2.25-2.50 crores gross while in Kerala, the collection dropped massively for an estimated 75 lakh (-80%) and in Karnataka, the movie has minted around 75 lakh, again a heavy drop. ## Kanguva has a decent day in the Hindi belt though the drop is still there for an estimated 3+ crores gross as all India second-day estimates suggest the collection in the range of 10.50-11.50 crores gross, pushing the total to around 39 crores gross after 2 days domestically.## The film has a big Saturday and Sunday to make a mark as it looks like it will struggle big time beyond the weekend. The competition from Amaran will also make it tough for the film during weekdays which remains to be seen.## Stay tuned...
