New Delhi, June 28 - 2024 has been a poor year for the Punjabi film industry with only two films (Shinda Shinda No Papa and Jatt Nuu Chudail Takri) able to score double-digit collections at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office. ## After the dull first 5 months, the first half of the year is expected to end on a strong note with Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa's Jatt & Juliet 3 which is the third instalment and first since 2013 of the duo's blockbuster romantic comedy franchise. ## Jatt and Juliet 3 scored the highest-ever opening day pre-sales for a Punjabi film with close to 1.50 crores gross. With this sort of advance, the movie could have easily emerged as the biggest Pubjabi opener but it faced a mighty challenge in the form of Kalki 2898 AD which has taken the nation by storm. ## The movie, however, still scored the second-biggest opening ever for a Punjabi title with 3.50 crores net, behind Carry On Jatta 3 which took the opening of a huge 4.55 crores net and went on to become the first Punjabi movie to score 100 crores worldwide gross. Los Angeles, June 27 - Director Nag Ashwin's sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD starring Pan India superstar has outgrossed SS Rajamouli's period action drama RRR to score the biggest premiere for an Indian movie in North America.## RRR, starring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, scored a $3.3 million gross collection on its North America premiere in March 2022, and now, two years later, Kalki has beaten this record. The movie grossed $3.85 (32.10 crores) on premiere day in NA. ## Kalki 2898 AD scored $4.25 million in pre-sales for the entire weekend and could be among the top 10 movies this weekend in North America. As for the record, SS Rajamouli and Prabhas' Baahubali 2 is the highest-grossing Indian film in North America with approximately $22 million, followed by Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan and Jawan with $17.50 million and $15.25 million, respectively. Kalki will look to finish in the top 3. ## Meanwhile, the movie has taken an excellent opening in India and is on track to 120+ crores on opening day, and with overseas opening to a strong note, the worldwide opening is expected to be in the range of 200 crores as projected. The film is looking at one of the biggest Indian openings at the worldwide box office. ## Directed by Nag Ashwin, the advance booking gross of Kalki is 50+ crores (without block seats) for all languages for the opening day, which is 4th highest ever for an Indian film after Baahubali 2, KGF Chapter 2, and RRR, or it is the best since KGF 2 which was released in April 2022. ## Here are the top 5 Indian movies with the biggest opening day pre-sales in India for all languages (without block seats) - ## 1. Los Angeles, June 26 - The stage is set for Pan India superstar Prabhas-fronted Kalki 2898 AD to take an earth-shattering opening at the domestic and worldwide box office. As per the projection, the sci-fi epic is aiming to open in the range of 200 crores gross globally. ## Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD is expected to shatter many records, and one of them is the opening in North America. According to Gulte.com, the film has scored $3.08 million (25.75 crores) in pre-sales in NA for the premiere, which is the highest ever for an Indian movie, beating RRR. ## The movie is heading towards scoring the biggest opening in North America as it needs just $200K from spot booking to beat the total premiere gross of RRR which scored approximately $3.3 million in 2022. Mumbai, June 26 - Varun Dhawan's action thriller Baby John has been moved back by 6 months and it will now be hitting worldwide theatres on Christmas this year. It is directed by Tamil director Kalees and also stars Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi as the female leads. ## Produced by Cine1 Studios, and A for Apple Productions in association with Jio Studios, Baby John was originally announced for a May 31, 2024, release but the makers postponed it due to the pending shoot. There were rumours that it might be released in July but the makers have locked December 25, 2024, release date for the same. ## Baby John is reportedly an adaptation of Atlee's Tamil film Theri (2016). In the movie, Baby John, a former police officer, fakes his death and goes into hiding to bring up his daughter in a safe environment, but trouble ensues when their life gets threatened by Baby John's past enemies and Baby John must face his past to protect his daughter.## Christmas this year just got merrier. Chennai, June 26 - Legendary Kamal Haasan returns as Senapathy to fight corruption in the country in the sequel to his 1996 film, Indian. Directed by S. Shankar, the first of the two-part Indian 2 is set to hit screens on July 12 in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. ## Originally, Indian 2 was planned as a single movie but the makers have now split it into two parts. At the trailer launch event on June 25, director Shankar and Kamal Haasan talked about the reasons behind splitting the movie into two parts. ## While Kamal Haasan revealed that bringing the film in 2 parts was purely director Shankar's decision as he was the right man to judge his script, the director said that the decision was taken due to the demand of the script which is lengthy and goes from regional to pan India. ## Shankar explained that the story of the film, which is based on corruption, revolves around just 1 state in Indian 2 but as the story spreads all over the country, it became important to tell this in another part, which is Indian 3. The first part is over 3 hours long. ## "Our initial idea was to do only one part. After I started filming and when I sat in the editing room, all the scenes from my point of view came out very well. If, for the sake of it, you have to make it in one part, if I compressed the whole thing, the soul of every scene, the feel of every scene would have been lost". Shankar clarified (via Times of India).## Kamal Haasan, meanwhile, appreciated the hard work put in by director Shankar and Lyca Productions to stay with the film despite many hurdles. In case you don't know, Indian 2 has been in the making since 2019, but the production was halted due to an accident in 2020 while filming that killed some crew members before the COVID-19 pandemic put a further dent. The filming was finally wrapped up in March 2024. ## The movie stars Kamal Haasan, reprising his role as Senapathy, an ageing freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption, with Siddharth, S. J. Since then, only RRR, also directed by Rajamouli, could touch 200 crores opening day box office figure. ## 2 years after RRR, Indian cinema might have its third 200 crore worldwide opener in Prabhas-fronted Kalki 2898 AD. Mumbai, June 25 - Pan India superstar Prabhas-fronted Kalki 2898 AD becomes the first Indian movie of 2024 to sell over 1.8 million tickets for the opening day with a few hours still left for the release and the final ticket count will be over 2 million.## The advance booking gross collection of Kalki is 56+ crores (including block seats) for the first day and it will finish around 60 crores gross before the first show begins which will be among the biggest pre-sales ever for an Indian title. ## The Telugu version is leading the advance booking collection of the sci-fi epic with 40+ crores gross so far, followed by the Hindi version with 7+ crores gross. The Hindi version of the movie has had better pre-sales than Prabhas' last film, Salaar which indicates a very good start in Hindi. ## Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD has created an all-time opening day pre-sales record in Hyderabad city by a long margin. Mumbai, June 25 - In 2022, it was reported that actor Ayushmann Khurrana and producer Dinesh Vijan would team up for a horror-comedy film and later it was revealed that the title of the movie was Vampires of Vijay Nagar. In July 2023, Maddock Films officially confirmed the movie and now, there is an update on the same. ## According to the report by Pinkvilla, national crush Rashmika Mandanna has been roped in to play the female lead in Vampires of Vijay Nagar which will be directed by Aditya Satpodar whose directorial, Munjya is currently playing in theatres at the back of Superhit box office collection. ## Previously, there were rumours that Samantha Ruth Prabhu would play the female lead but there was no reliable update on the same. The upcoming movie marks Rashmika and Ayushmann's first film together and also, it is the first for them with director Aditya Satpodar. ## Vampires of Vijay Nagar will be a part of Maddock Films' horror-comedy universe which kicked off with Stree in 2018, followed by Roohi, Bhediya, and Munjya. Mumbai, June 25 - Maddock Films has launched the teaser of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-fronted horror-comedy Stree 2 online after releasing it exclusively with its Munjya in theatres on June 13. The movie is directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan of Maddock with Jio Studios. ## Shraddha Kapoor, whose identity remains a mystery in the movie, returns to reprise her role alongside Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee as inhabitants of Chanderi. Mumbai, June 25 - Kangana Ranaut, the recently elected member of parliament, has announced a new release date for his long-awaited biographical political drama Emergency on the day of the 50th year of The Emergency imposed in 1975 for two years by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi. ## The movie, which is written, directed and stars Kangana Ranaut as the late Indira Gandhi, was supposed to be released on June 14 but it will now hit worldwide theatres on September 6, 2024, and will have a solo release. Kangana has also produced it under her banner Manikarnika Films with EaseMyTrip. ## Emergency marks Kangana's second directorial venture after Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi which she co-directed with Krish Jagarlamudi in 2019. Apart from the Queen actress, Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and Satish Kaushik as various political leaders. ## National award-winning music composer, G. V.
