Mumbai, December 23 - Disney's animated adventure drama Mufasa: The Lion King was the number 1 movie at the worldwide box office this past weekend, however, it failed to match the high expectations and largely underperformed at the domestic and overseas box office. ## The Barry Jenkins' directorial prequel to The Lion King (2019) grossed just $35 million in its domestic (North America) opening weekend, well behind the industry's projection of $50+ million. Overseas also, the film didn't leave up to the expectations at $87.2 million for a worldwide cume of $122.2 million.## While the movie topped the global box office, it landed far behind pre-release expectations of $130 million overseas and $180 million globally. China was the biggest market for Mufasa with $7.8 million, followed by France with $7.7 million, and Mexico with $7.1 million. ## Meanwhile, the movie did well at the Indian box office, benefitting from the voiceover of superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Mahesh Babu. In its 3-day opening weekend, the film grossed approximately 46 crores (including 3D charges). The original The Lion King grossed 65+ crores in India in its first weekend. ## Mufasa now hopes to regain the lost ground during the Christmas and New Year holidays. However, it is unlikely to get anywhere near the first film which delivered a mighty $1.66 billion at the global box office as one of the biggest grossers ever with a similar kind of reception from critics. ## Stay tuned...

Hyderabad, December 23 - Superstar Allu Arjun's mega box office blockbuster Pushpa 2 - The Rule has emerged as the number-one film in the history of the online ticketing portal, Book My Show in terms of tickets sold. ## In just 17 days, the action drama film has sold 18+ million (1.80+ crores) tickets, beating Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 2 which sold around 17.10+ million tickets during its lifetime run. SS Rajamouli and Prabhas' Baahubali 2 reportedly sold around 16 million tickets which is the third highest ever. ## Overall, Pushpa 2 has sold more than 50 million (5 crores) tickets in 17 days and has become the most-watched movie in India post the Covid-19 pandemic. KGF: Chapter 2 had also sold 50+ million tickets and these two are the only films to achieve the feat since the health crisis. ## Meanwhile, the film is set to cross 1500 crores gross at the worldwide box office in just 18 days and is already the third highest-grossing Indian movie after Baahubali 2 (1790 crores gross approx.) and Dangal (2070 crores gross approx.). Bengaluru, December 22 - It has been a year since Prabhas-fronted action drama Salaar Part 1 - Ceasefire was released in theatres. Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film was one of the highest-grossing Indian titles in 2023 with over 600 crores gross, however, the director expected. ## In a special interview with Kairam Vaashi on the occasion of Salaar's first anniversary, Prashanth Neel opened up about the film's box office performance. It is worth noting that it was Neel's first movie since the mega-blockbuster KGF: Chapter 2 and his combination with Prabhas was expected to set the box office on fire. ## While Salaar emerged as a box office success, Neel expressed his disappointment and said that he was not completely happy with the performance as he expected more since a lot of hard work was put into it. However, the maverick filmmaker is super confident on Salaar 2 which is scheduled to hit the big screens in 2026. ## "I decided to make Salaar2 into one of my best movies. The writing I have put into the film has been probably one of my best works. I'm going to make it more than I can imagine and more than the audience can imagine. It is something that unquestionably will be one of my best works", Neel said. ## Meanwhile, Neel will next team up with superstar Jr. NTR for action drama, slated to go on floors early next year. After wrapping up NTR's film, the director will resume work on Salaar 2 which has been confirmed to be released in 2026. Hyderabad, December 21 - Mythri Movie Makers' action drama Pushpa 2 - The Rule has topped 5 crore footfalls at the Indian box office in 17 days, becoming the second movie after Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 2 to achieve the feat post the Covid-19 pandemic. ## The movie has been selling over 1 million tickets almost every day since its release on December 5. On its second Saturday (17th day), it has topped 50 million admissions in India and is set to beat KGF 2 which sold approximately 5.10 crore tickets in its lifetime run in all versions. ## The Hindi version of Pushpa 2 has alone generated 3+ crores of footfalls, followed by the original Telugu version (1.50 crores) while Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada versions have sold 50+ lakh tickets so far. It has become the second Telugu movie after Baahubali 2 to sell 5+ crores of tickets in India. ## Overall, the Allu Arjun-starrer is the 15th Indian movie ever to score 5 crores or more footfalls and it is likely to finish among the top 10 movies of all time at the end of its box office run. Hyderabad, December 21 - Superstar Allu Arjun holds a press meeting to respond to the allegations made against him by the Chief Minister of Telangana, Revanth Reddy in the Sandhya Theatre Stampede which occurred during the premiere of Pushpa 2 - The Rule on December 4. ## On December 21, Reveanth Reddy made serious allegations against the actor and tried to character-assassinate him by calling his actions inhuman. Mr Reddy had alleged that even after the incident of the stampede happened, the actor didn't leave the theatre despite knowing about the death of a woman. ## The CM also said that even on the way back, Allu Arjun was waving his hands towards the crowd from the roof of the car. Denying the allegations, Allu Arjun said to the press that there is a lot of misinformation and character assassination against him. ## The actor said that no police came to the theatre to tell him about the woman's death. It was his staff that told him about the stampede and asked him to leave and only by the next day morning, he came to know about the unfortunate incident, according to the actor.## About waving hands towards fans, AA said that if he doesn't show up, people think he is arrogant. He seemingly looked very disappointed by all the allegations made against him and he called them 100% false. Hyderabad, December 21 - Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy fired heavy shots on superstar Allu Arjun in the recent Sandhya Theater Stampede case in which a woman died while her son got severely injured. The actor has been facing legal trial in the case and even was arrested a few days ago before getting interim bail by the High Court. ## The incident occurred on December 4 when Allu Arjun went to watch the premiere of his blockbuster film Pushpa 2 - The Rule in Sandhya Theater in Hyderabad. Due to the heavy rush of his fans, the stampede happened which claimed a precious life. The incident was discussed in the Assembly on Saturday (December 21). ## During his speech, CM Reventh Reddy lambasted the actor and the film fraternity for their inhuman attitude towards the victims. Putting serious allegations on Allu Arjun, the CM said that the actor was denied permission to visit the theatre, and despite that, he watched the film amid a massive crowd. ## Mr Reddy also alleged that even after the incident of the stampede happened, the actor didn't leave the theatre until the DCP came and forcibly put him in the car and even warned him of immediate arrest knowing the seriousness of the case.## "Even on the way back", Reddy said that "He (Allu Arjun) was waving his hands towards the crowd from the roof of the car". The CM questioned the inhuman side of the actor as well as other film fraternity people as none of them responded to the death of the woman in Stampede. ## The CM further said what kind of message the film fraternity was giving when they went to meet Allu Arjun one by one after he came out of jail. Mumbai, December 21 - SS Rajamouli's epic blockbuster Baahubali 2 starring Prabhas, finally has a company in the 1000 crores net club as Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 - The Rule joined the lonely leader after more than 7 years. ## The closest to reach Baahubali 2 previously was Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 2 (860 crores net) and Pushpa 2 not only surpassed that but went on to join the former, taking just 16 days as the fastest film to achieve this rare box office milestone. ## Just like Baahubali 2, the contribution from the dubbed Hindi version has more than 50% in Pushpa 2's overall collection. In 16 days so far, the movie has minted approximately 630+ crores net collection in Hindi out of 1000+ crores net total. It is also the biggest Hindi grosser of all time and the first to breach the 600 crores mark. ## The original Telugu version of Pushpa 2 is nearing the 300 crores mark while the dubbed Tamil version is the third most contributor with around 53 crores net. The Malayalam and Kannada versions have scored approximately 21+ crores net so far. ## Pushpa 2 will become the biggest grosser in India in terms of net collection by today or tomorrow as BB2 has scored 1030 crores net collection. Pictures and DC Studios' Superman movie got off to an excellent start as the first trailer of James Gunn's directorial brought in a record viewership in the history of the studio, according to the filmmaker himself. ## Gunn announced on social media that the first trailer of Superman, starring David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, scored 250+ million views across social media platforms in the first 24 hours. The maverick filmmaker also declared it the biggest trailer launch in Warner Bros. and DC Studio's history. ## "Krypto really did take us home: With over 250 million views and a million social posts, Superman is officially the most viewed and the most talked about trailer in the history of both DC and Warner Bros. Director Vetrimaaran's Viduthalai Part - 2, Upendra's UI, and Malayalam title Marco among others hit the screens on December 20. ## Viduthalai Part 2 was the biggest opener among the new Indian titles and it has opened almost double the first movie. According to the early estimates, the crime thriller grossed an estimated 8 crores, including around 6.50 crores in Tamil Nadu on its opening day.## Kannada star and director Upendra's dystopian science fictional action UI has exceeded expectations and taken the biggest opening of 2024 for a Kannada title. Per estimates, the film has grossed in the range of 7.50-8 crores, which includes around 80 lakh in the Telugu version, on its first day.## The Malayalam A-rated action thriller, Marco starring Unni Mukundan, is another film of the day which performed well above expectations. Touted as the most violent Mollywood title ever, the movie scored an estimated 5 crores gross on its first day. ## The word of mouth for all three aforementioned films is superb which should lead them to a very good holiday week. Meanwhile, there was one more big Hollywood film released in the form of Disney's Mufasa - The Lion King, in the voices dubbed by superstars like Shah Rukh Khan (Hindi) and Mahesh Babu (Telugu). ## The animated adventure film performed very well on its first day in India, scoring an estimated 9-10 crores net collection in all versions. The initial word of mouth for Mufasa seems to be on the positive side and can be a favourite among the family audience this holiday season. ## Stay tuned...
