Box Office: 'Chhaava' Second Friday (Day 8) Early Estimates

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, February 21 - After the excellent first week, Vicky Kaushal-fronted historical action drama Chhaava is all set for the explosive second weekend at the domestic box office. ## The movie has shown growth on the second Friday and has again crossed the 20+ crores mark which is fantastic. It began the day with a drop as compared to yesterday but got jumped during the evening and night shows as early estimates suggest 22.50-23.50 crores net day. ## There have been only three films in the past to score 20+ crores net collection on the second Friday, so this is phenomenal for Chhaava to do that. This second Friday hold has set the tone for 80+ crores net weekend which will be among the biggest ever in Hindi. ## To further understand the domination of Chhaava, it has the lowest drop among the films to collect 20+ crores net on the second Friday from the first Friday. The total collection of Chhaava is 241+ crores net after 8 days and it will be entering the 300 crores club on the second Sunday already. ## Stay tuned...

A Hat-Trick of Blockbusters For Rashmika Mandanna With Chhaava, Pushpa 2, And Animal

BY SUNIT JANGIR

Mumbai, February 21 - It is not an exaggeration if I say that Rashmika Mandanna is the most-in-demand female actor in Indian cinema at present. She is full of films all the time and her ability to switch from one film to another in no time makes her the absolute darling of the filmmakers and her co-stars. Apart from doing content-driven cinema, Rashmika's almost pinpoint accuracy when it comes to choosing mass-appealing films is something that makes her one of the most successful stars of the country.## As we speak, the actress has indeed achieved a remarkable feat at the box office with a hat-trick of blockbusters, cementing her status as one of the leading actresses in Indian cinema. Her latest film, Chhaava, released on February 14, has taken the box office by storm, joining the ranks of her previous mega-hits, Animal (2023) and Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024). These three films have not only showcased her versatility but also her ability to draw massive audiences across different languages and genres.## Animal - Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, this Bollywood action drama featured Rashmika alongside Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. Released on December 1, 2023, it became the highest-grossing A-rated Indian film in history, collecting approximately 915 crore worldwide. Rashmika's portrayal of Geetanjali, a strong and emotional character, resonated with audiences and contributed significantly to the film's success.## Pushpa 2: The Rule - Released on December 5 last year, this Telugu-origin Pan India blockbuster sequel saw Rashmika reprising her role as Srivalli opposite Icon Star Allu Arjun. Directed by Sukumar, the film shattered box office records, grossing around 1750 crore worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever. It broke every record in Hindi domestically and emerged as the biggest grosser with over 1000 crores worldwide. The actress's intense performance and the character's expanded arc further solidified her pan-India appeal.## Chhaava - A historical action drama directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava stars Rashmika as Maharani Yesubai Bhonsale alongside Vicky Kaushal, who plays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Released on February 14 the film crossed 100 crore in India within its opening weekend and has continued its strong run, topping 200 crore net in its first week and 300 crores gross worldwide. This success highlights Rashmika’s ability to shine in a period drama, adding another dimension to her repertoire.## This hat-trick underscores Rashmika Mandanna's incredible run at the box office, with each film crossing significant milestones - Animal with over 500 crore in India, Pushpa 2 as an all-time grosser, and Chhaava emerging as a Bollywood blockbuster in 2025. Her consistent delivery of hits across Telugu and Hindi cinema, combined with her growing fan base, positions her as a powerhouse performer. With upcoming projects like Sikandar alongside Salman Khan, Rashmika's streak of success shows no signs of slowing down.## Stay tuned...

Kabir Singh (2019) – ₹278.24 Crore## Origin: Remake of Arjun Reddy (Telugu, 2017) ## Shahid Kapoor’s intense portrayal of a self-destructive surgeon in love made Kabir Singh a cultural phenomenon. Drishyam 2 (2022) – ₹239.67 Crore## Origin: Adapted from Drishyam 2 (Malayalam, 2021) ## Technically a sequel to Drishyam (2015), itself a remake, Drishyam 2 with Ajay Devgn earned ₹239.67 crore. Kick (2014) – ₹231.85 Crore## Origin: Remake of Kick (Telugu, 2009) ## Salman Khan’s adrenaline-pumping Kick raked in ₹231.85 crore, far surpassing the Telugu original’s ₹25 crore (approx.). Bodyguard (2011) – ₹148.52 Crore## Origin: Remake of Bodyguard (Malayalam, 2010) ## Salman Khan’s Bodyguard grossed ₹148.52 crore, a massive leap from the Malayalam original’s ₹10 crore (approx.). This twin-brother comedy got a modern makeover, outgrossing its predecessor’s unadjusted earnings with updated humor.## 9. Rowdy Rathore (2012) – ₹133.25 Crore## Origin: Remake of Vikramarkudu (Telugu, 2006) ## Akshay Kumar’s Rowdy Rathore amassed ₹133.25 crore, adapting Vikramarkudu (₹25 crore). Directed by Prabhu Deva, its mix of action and mass appeal turned this cop-conman story into a crowd-pleaser.## 10. Ready (2011) – ₹120.9 Crore## Origin: Remake of Ready (Telugu, 2008) ## Salman Khan’s Ready earned ₹120.9 crore, outperforming the Telugu original’s ₹19 crore (approx.). Chhaava Crosses 200 Crore Nett in 7 Days: Vicky Kaushal and Maddock Films Strike Gold Again

BY ANISH JANGIR

Mumbai, February 20, 2025: Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava has taken the box office by storm, crossing the ₹200 crore net mark in India within just seven days of its theatrical release. The historical action drama has solidified its position as a blockbuster, marking the second 200 crores net film for the actro. Additionally, Chhaava has earned its place as the 43rd Bollywood movie to achieve this coveted milestone.## Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, Chhaava has enthralled audiences with its powerful depiction of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the fearless Maratha warrior. Backed by a stellar cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, and Ashutosh Rana, the film has delivered a knockout punch at the ticket counters, blending historical grandeur with commercial appeal.## The film’s dominance in Maharashtra has been a key driver, with theatres in Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik reporting occupancies above 90%. Midnight shows and additional screenings have become the norm to meet the unprecedented demand. ## Vicky Kaushal’s Second ₹200 Crore Nett ## For Vicky Kaushal, Chhaava marks his second film to breach the ₹200 crore nett barrier in India, following his 2019 war drama Uri: The Surgical Strike (₹244 crore nett). Kaushal’s portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj has been lauded as a tour de force, cementing his status as a versatile actor with box office muscle. Having outgrossed Raazi (₹123 crore nett) and Sam Bahadur (₹91 crore nett), Chhaava could challenge Uri’s lifetime haul if its momentum persists.## Maddock Films’ Winning Streak Continues## Maddock Films, led by producer Dinesh Vijan, celebrates its second ₹200 crore nett triumph with Chhaava, hot on the heels of Stree 2’s massive success earlier in 2025. With a reported budget of ₹130 crore, the film has already turned profitable and is poised for a hefty theatrical surplus. Known for its horror-comedy universe, Maddock has now conquered the historical genre, proving its versatility and commercial acumen.## The Road Ahead## With no major releases threatening its reign shortly, Chhaava is expected to enjoy a clear run at the box office. Analysts project a potential ₹400 crore net finish in India.## Stay tuned...
