Thalapathy 67: Entire Primary Starcast Locked For Thalapathy Vijay's Next With Lokesh Kanagaraj

Chennai, February 1 - Thalapathy Vijay's second collaboration with director Lokesh Kanagaraj has roped in a superlative star cast. Tentatively titled "Thalapathy 67", it is easily the most hyped Kollywood movie of the year and it gets bigger with some of the highly talented actors coming on board it. ## Seven Screen Studio, the production house of the film, has been announcing the cast since yesterday and the makers have locked in primary characters. While Thalapathy Vijay plays the lead role, Sanjay Dutt was the first to announce to play one of the prominent roles. ## Sanjay Dutt marks his Tamil debut with "Thalapathy 67" and also his first association with Vijay and Kanagaraj. "When I heard the one-liner of Thalapathy 67, I knew in that exact moment I had to be a part of this film and I'm thrilled to start this journey", Dutt said. ## The second actor to announce is Priya Anand who plays one of the female leads. Dance choreographer Sandy also joins the cast along with Mysskin, Mansoor Ali Khan, and Mathew Thomas. Gautham Menon, one of the top names in South Indian cinema, is also a part of the ensemble, and so is action king Arjun Sarja. ## The last one to confirm onboard is the leading lady of the film Tisha Krishan who reunites with Thalapathy Vijay after 14 years. Vijay and Trisha are one of the most loved on-screen pairs in South Indian cinema and they are finally teaming up for what could be the biggest film in Tamil cinema history. ## There are rumors that one of the top Tamil actors, Vikram will also be a part of the film, however, the makers haven't confirmed his participation yet. ## Produced by S. South Indian Pongal/Sankranthi Blockbusters Hit 700 Crores At The Worldwide Box Office

Chennai, January 22 - The year 2023 has opened with a bang for the Indian film industry, led by South Indian films as the gamble to release four big films around the same time on this Pongal/Sankranthi festival has paid off. ## Pongal/Sankranthi has always been a lucrative festival for South Indian films at the box office, and this year was no different with four biggies released and got succeeded. Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar released their biggies "Varisu" and "Thunivu", respectively. On the other hand, Chiranjeevi and Nandamuri Balakrishna brought their films "Waltair Veerarya" and "Veera Simha Reddy". ## All four aforementioned films were having over 400 crores on their shoulders as far as the theatrical share collection is concerned. The combined business of all four films has already crossed the break-even mark as the overall gross collection of them has rocked 700 crores at the global box office. Thalapathy Vijay's "Varisu" is leading over the other three films though it is yet to achieve its individual break-even target. ## Have a look at the total collection details of all four films worldwide (as of January 21) - ## Varisu - The family action drama film has grossed approx. 244 crores worldwide, including 166 crores domestically so far in just 11 days and it will soon turn into a profitable venture for the investors despite the high stake. The movie was valued at around 140 crores and has already recovered approx. 128 crores, needing another 10-12 crores for the break-even. It has a direct clash with "Thunivu", and despite that, the movie has managed to cross the 100 crores mark in Tamil Nadu state. ## Waltair Veerayya - The action drama film has become the first clean hit for Megastar Chiranjeevi since "Khaidi No. 150" (2017). It has so far grossed approx. 178 crores worldwide, including approx. 153 crores in India in just 9 days. It was valued at approx. 89 crores and has already managed to make approx. 17 crores profit. It will soon enter a 200 crores club worldwide. ## Thunivu - Another film that has managed to achieve the break-even target within two weeks. In just 11 days since its release, the heist action thriller film has grossed approx. 168 crores, including approx. 118 crores domestically. It was valued at around 85 crores and it has surpassed this mark and turned into a profitable venture. ## Veera Simha Reddy - The Nandamuri Balakrishna's action drama gets saved by the Sankranthi holidays. It will eventually achieve the break-even target but is unlikely to big a big profitable film for the involved parties. Despite all this, it has become the highest-grossing film for NBK. Thalapathy Vijay's 'Varisu' Crosses 100 Crores Gross In Tamil Nadu

Chennai, January 21 - Thalapathy Vijay's family action entertainer Varisu has crossed 100 crores gross mark in the home state, Tamil Nadu. The movie achieved the feat in 10 days after debuting in theaters on January 11. ## Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, "Varisu" has so far grossed approx. 159 crores at the domestic box office, including approx. 100 crores in Tamil Nadu. It has become the 6th straight film for Thalapathy to enter the prestigious box office club in the state. ## "Varisu" has been performing exceptionally well ever since it was released in theaters. Despite the big clash with Ajith Kumar's "Thunivu", it has outperformed all other films, not just domestically but overseas as well. Chennai, January 20 - The Tamil film industry has been in fine form of late with back-to-back blockbusters and the upcoming films promise nothing less. Throughout the year 2023, there will be a number of Tamil tentpole titles to keep the audiences and trade hooked and one of them is Thalapathy Vijay's next with director Lokesh Kanagaraj. ## Easily the most hyped Tamil film in recent times, Thalapathy 67 recently commenced filming silently. While the official announcement is expected to be made in the next few days, the movie is already making waves for its star cast which is getting bigger with each passing day. ## Thalapathy Vijay plays the lead role in the film which is said to be a part of Lokesh's famous cinematic universe. As reported on many occasions, Trisha Krishnan is playing the female lead role while Sanjay Dutt is on board to play the antagonist. Chennai, January 18 - Thalapathy Vijay's family entertainer Varisu has crossed 200 crores at the global box office, becoming the first Indian movie of 2023 to enter the box office club.## Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, "Varisu" has emerged as the first choice of the family audience on this Pongal festival. The film took just 7 days to reach the box office milestone, thanks to superlative performance domestically as well as overseas. ## "Varisu" has grossed approx. 210 crores, including approx. 140 crores in India in all languages and approx. 70 crores overseas. Early Estimates: Varisu And Thunivu Fifth Day/First Sunday

Chennai, January 15 - Thalapathy Vijay's family action drama Varisu is emerging as a favorite Tamil film this Pongal festival, not just in the original Tamil language but also in Telugu and Hindi languages. ## Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, "Varisu" grossed approx. 78 crores domestically in the first 4 days. The movie grossed an estimated 21+ crores on Sunday, including an estimated 13+ crores in the Tamil language, pushing the total domestic gross collection to around 100 crores in the 5-day opening weekend. ## The Telugu version of the film, "Varasudu" did well on the opening day with approx. 5.40 crores and scored another 5.50+ crores gross on its second day for approx. 11 crores gross in two days. The Hindi version is also surprisingly doing well and has grossed approx. 4+ crores gross in three days.## Meanwhile, another Pongal release, Ajith Kumar's Thunivu is too doing well by holding well after the big opening day. Chennai, January 14 - Thalapathy Vijay's family action drama film Varisu sees a big Saturday at the box office, added by the Telugu version "Varasudu" which released today. ## Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, "Varisu" scored an estimated 19+ crores gross on its 4th day/first Saturday. The Telugu version grossed an estimated approx. 4.50+ crores on the first day. "Varasudu" had a low advance booking for the opening day but surprised one and all with excellent spot booking.## The total domestic gross collection of "Varisu" now stands around 76 crores, including the Telugu version, after 4 days. The movie has crossed 50 crores gross in the home state, Tamil Nadu with today's collection, and worldwide it crossed 100 crores gross, becoming the first Indian film of 2023 to do so. ## Ajith Kumar's "Thunivu", which had a direct clash with "Varisu" is legging behind the Vijay-starrer despite putting up a good collection so far. Chennai, January 13 - The two Pongal releases, Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu and Ajith Kumar's Thunivu are having neck-to-neck competition at the box office with the former having a little advantage at the domestic box office after two days. ## Both films had a good hold on their second day despite dropping in the range of 50% each. The two days domestic gross collection for Thalapathy Vijay-starrer is approx. 45 crores while Ajith-fronted has grossed 42.50 crores.## "Varisu" witnessed another good hold on its 3rd day and scored an estimated 12 crores gross, dropping approx. 10%. The total domestic collection for the movie now stands at approx. 57 crores after 3 days with 2 big weekend days ahead of it. The movie is eyeing 85+ crores gross in the 5-day opening weekend. ## "Thunivu", on the other hand, sees a bigger drop of around 23% than "Varisu" on its 3rd day/first Friday for an estimated 10 crores gross. The total domestic gross collection for the movie reaches approx. 52 crores in 3 days. ## The direct clash between "Varisu" and "Thunivu" has clearly dented both's box office chances as none of them are able to utilize their full potential. Early Estimates: Varisu And Thunivu Hold Strong On The Second Day

Chennai, January 12 - The two powerful forces of Tamil cinema, Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar collectively scored the day ever at the Tamil Nadu box office when their respective films, Varisu and Thunivu grossed 41+ crores on the opening day. ## The Ajith-starrer won the opening-day battle in the home state but it was "Varisu" that took the honors at the domestic box office a little over 31 crores against 28+ crores of "Thunivu". The word of mouth for both films is on the positive side and that helped both hold strong on the second day. ## As per the early estimates, "Varisu" grossed an estimated 18-20 crores on the second day, dropping around 40% which is lesser than the usual drop for a Tamil film. "Thunivu", on the other hand, has a drop in the similar range for an estimated 17-19 crores gross. ## The two days total domestic collection for "Varisu" is around 50 crores while "Thunivu" has minted approx. 45 crores gross (final second-day numbers may vary).## Both, "Varisu" and "Thunivu" are getting benefitted because of the Pongal holidays and this is expected to continue during throughout the opening weekend. Early Estimates: Varisu And Thunivu Combined Scores Over 50+ Crores Opening Day

Chennai, January 11 - The Pongal 2023 festival weekend kicks off on a blockbuster note, thanks to the two most anticipated Tamil tentpoles Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu and Ajith Kumar's Thunivu.## Telugu director Vamshi Paidipally directed "Varisu" while H. Vinoth helmed "Thunivu". Since both movies came on the same day, it was certain that no new box office record would be created but couldn't stop both films to bring combined joy to movie theaters and the makers. ## As per the early estimates, the combined opening day box office collection for "Varisu" and "Thunivu" is over 50 crores gross domestically. Thalapathy Vijay-starrer, as expected, is the biggest movie of the day but only just as Ajith-fronted comes really close to it. ## "Varisu" grossed an estimated 26-28 crores on the first day, and this includes an estimated 16-18 crores gross in the home state Tamil Nadu. On the other hand, "Thunivu" grossed an estimated 25-27 crores all of India, including 17-19 crores in Tamil Nadu. ## Outside Tamil Nadu, "Varisu" leads over "Thunivu", as per the estimates. In Karnataka, the former grossed an estimated 5 crores while later scoring around 3.50 crores gross. "Varisu" has a very good opening in Kerala, grossing approx. 3.50 crores, on the other hand, "Thunivu" grossed approx. 1.50 crores in the state. Theatrical Business Details Of Pongal/Sankranthi Releases

Chennai, January 10 - Four of the biggest stars of the Southern Indian film industry, Thalapathy Vijay, Ajith Kumar, Chiranjeevi, and Nandamuri Balakrishna, will be competing at the box office to attract audience eyeballs during one of the most lucrative Pongal/Sankranthi festival frames. ## Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu, scheduled for January 11 release, is easily the biggest film this Pongal festival as far as the movie business is concerned. It will be up against Ajith Kumar's Thunivu at the Tamil box office and both the movies are having neck-to-neck numbers in the advance booking with "Varisu" marginally ahead at the moment. ## Directed by Vamshi Paidipally and produced by Dil Raju, "Varisu" will need to perform strong legs at the box office as the break-even target for this family action drama film is on the higher side as compared to the other movies. The break-even target for the movie is approx. 155 crores share, which means, it will need to gross around 280 crores at the global box office. ## The break-even target for "Varisu" seems too little higher given the fact that it will have to share screens with "Thunivu" which is also due on January 11 release. It will, however, fancy chances, thanks to Thalapathy Vijay who has a mighty impressive pull at the box office.## On the other hand, "Thunivu's" break-even target is close to 88 crores share or approx. 165 crores gross worldwide. Given how previous movies of Ajith Kumar have fared at the box office, "Thunivu" is in a comfortable position and is expected to be a profitable venture for the makers unless it meets a poor response from audiences. ## Coming to the Telugu films, the producer for both movies, Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja's Waltair Veerayya and Balakrishna's Veera Simha Reddy is Mythri Movie Makers. The studio has done well to manage things and negotiate with theaters to find ways to give a proper release to both films. ## "Waltair Veerayya", directed by Bobby, has been valued at approx. 89 crores, similar to Chiranjeevi's last film "Godfather" which was an average affair at the box office. The trailer of the film met with a very good response from the audiences and the movie is expected to have a good run, at least, in the first few days. It is slated for January 13 release. ## Cult star Nandamuri Balakrishna leads Gopichand Malineni's action drama "Veera Simha Reddy", alongside Shruti Haasan and Duniya Vijay, which is due a Jan. 12 release. NBK is coming after delivering the biggest blockbuster of his career in the form of "Akhanda" and he will be looking to repeat the same with the upcoming movie.
