Vishwanath and Sons Week 2 Box Office: Suriya Starrer Grosses ₹190 Cr Globally Amid a 66% Drop; Needs ₹10 Cr More to Hit the ₹200 Cr Milestone
Suriya's Vishwanath and Sons has wrapped up its second week at the Indian box office, and while the film has understandably cooled off from its explosive opening seven days, the numbers still tell the story of a solid holdover. The Venky Atluri directorial added a further ₹27.55 Cr net in Week 2, pushing its overall India net collection past the ₹109 Crore mark. Globally, the film is now closing in on the ₹190 Crore milestone, keeping it on course to become Suriya's second 200 Crore grosser of the year after Karuppu.
The second Friday (Day 8) picked up right where the first week left off, opening with a net of ₹4.50 Cr. The real highlight of the week, though, was the second weekend. Day 9 (Saturday) surged to ₹7.25 Cr, a jump of over 61 percent, and Day 10 (Sunday) held that momentum with ₹7.30 Cr, marginally topping Saturday's number. As expected, the second Monday brought the usual correction, with collections dropping over 70 percent to ₹2.05 Cr, before the film found a steady weekday rhythm through Tuesday and Wednesday.
The success of Vishwanath and Sons is reflected in its massive digital footprint on BookMyShow, where it has sold a total of 2,711,020 tickets by the end of its second week. This achievement secures its spot as the 8th best-selling Tamil movie on the platform since August 2023, officially overtaking the final lifetime sales of Vettaiyan. Although it missed the elite top five leaderboard, which currently requires over 4.2 million tickets, the film maintained a steady hold after its 1.73 million opening week, with the second week contributing over 6.7 lakh bookings and peaking on Saturday with 187,580 sales.

Looking at the second-week trajectory of Vishwanath and Sons, the theatrical hold in the Tamil market provides some interesting insights into its sustainability. The film began its second weekend on Day 8 with a healthy 26.23 percent occupancy, but it was the jump during the weekend that really showed the legs of this family drama. By Day 10, the overall occupancy peaked at 45.50 percent, driven by a massive afternoon and evening surge where numbers touched 57 percent. What is particularly impressive is how Chennai served as the anchor for this run; the city started with 235 shows on Friday and saw an expansion to 386 shows by Sunday to meet the rising demand. In this same period, Coimbatore also showed strong growth, moving from 98 shows to 148 shows with occupancy jumping from 27.3 percent to over 51 percent.

The weekday performance was even more telling of the film's positive word of mouth and its ability to draw audiences during non-peak hours. While Day 11 saw the standard Monday dip to 21.83 percent, the numbers started climbing almost immediately. Tuesday reached 28.58 percent, followed by a surprising mid-week explosion on Day 13, where the overall occupancy hit a week-high of 58.35 percent. This Wednesday surge was characterized by intense night-show demand, which touched 64.09 percent overall. During this period, exhibitors focused on show efficiency; even as show counts were trimmed in centers like Chennai to 189 shows, the occupancy remained high at nearly 55 percent, ensuring that the screens were operating at peak capacity.

Zooming out to compare the two weeks side by side shows exactly how steep the drop-off has been. The film's opening week was powered by a strong ₹81.60 Cr net across 34,777 shows, while the second week settled at ₹27.55 Cr net across 19,806 shows, a decline of roughly 66 percent. This is a fairly standard week-2 hold for a big-ticket theatrical release once the initial festive and word-of-mouth rush tapers off, and the film is still adding a healthy few crores every weekend, which points to reasonable legs left in its run.

The second-week performance highlights a neck-and-neck race between the Telugu and Tamil markets, significantly boosting the film's cumulative grand total across all regions.

On the overseas front, the film has continued to add steadily rather than spectacularly, picking up close to ₹14.25 Cr in Week 2 alone to take its total international gross to ₹61.25 Cr. Combined with the India numbers, that pushes the worldwide gross to ₹190.05 Cr by the end of Day 14, with the India gross collection standing at approximately ₹128.8 Cr. With less than ₹10 Cr needed to reach the double century mark and no major Tamil release lined up in the coming weeks to disrupt its run, Vishwanath and Sons looks well placed to become Suriya's second 200 Crore grosser of the year.
