Box Office: 'Kantara', 'Ponniyin Selvan-1', 'Doctor G' Jump Big On Saturday

Mumbai, October 15 - It was a blockbuster day at the domestic box office as Kannada's sensational blockbuster Kantara witnessed a massive jump, scoring the biggest day of its box office run so far. ## The Telugu and Tamil versions of the movie got released today, and as per the early estimates, the two languages grossed approx. 2.70 crores. However, it was the original Kannada version that sees a near 100% jump from yesterday, for an estimated 9.50 crores gross, followed by an estimated 3 crores gross in the Hindi version today, which was its second day. The dubbed Hindi version also scores a near 100% jump from the opening day. ## The 3rd Saturday (1st Saturday for Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil) gross collection of "Kantara" is approx. 15 crores, which pushes its total domestic gross collection to over 100 crores to approx. 107 crores in 16 days. The worldwide collection of the movie is around 115 crores. ## Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam's mega-blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 continues to score big as it grossed an estimated 7-7.50 crores gross (+80% vs 3rd Friday) on its 3rd Saturday for all languages. ## The total domestic gross collection of "PS-1" is now around 280 crores while the worldwide total is approx. 425 crores. In the home state, Tamil Nadu, the movie is expected to breach the 200 crores mark by the end of the 3rd week. The current gross total in the state stands at approx. 186 crores after 16 days.## On the other hand, there are some relief for mid-sized Bollywood movies as Ayushmann Khurrana's social comedy-drama Doctor G witnesses a healthy jump on its second day. The movie surprisingly has had a decent opening day with 3.87 crores net, with a jump of approx. 30%, the movie scored an estimated 5 crores net on Saturday. Box Office: Doctor G Opening Day Early Estimates

Mumbai, October 14 - Ayushmann Khurrana's latest box office outing Doctor G has been released in theaters today. The film came from very less hype and even the makers did not promote it like other Ayushmaan Khurrana starrers. The trailer of the film received a lukewarm response from the audience while the music was even downer.## The film took a so-so opening at the box office but considering this film stars Ayushmaan Khurrana, the opening is decent during these times. The reason for the slack in the opening was the genre of the film as these types of urban comedies are not the best bets for the box office point of view after the pandemic as they look more like an OTT film rather than a big screen spectacle.## The early estimates for the opening day suggest 3.50 crores net. The opening of the film is in a similar range as of the last Ayushmaan Khurrana starrer Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui. Mumbai, October 14 - Ayushmann Khurrana's campus comedy-drama film Doctor G has been released in theaters today along with Parineeti Chopra and Harrdy Sandhu's spy action thriller Code Name: Tiranga and a few other films. ## Going by the initial reaction from the movie-goers and critics, it seems "Doctor G" will be the first choice of the audience over the weekend along with the Kannada movie Kantara, of which the Hindi version has been released today after creating waves in Kannada. ## Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap in her directorial debut, "Doctor G" is being called hilarious while dealing with a complicated subject where Ayushmann plays a gynecologist. Social comedy-drama has always been Ayushmann's strong zone and it looks like he is back in that after a couple of missed opportunities. ## Apart from Ayushmann, the performances of Rakul Preet Sigh, Shefali Shah, and Sheeba Chaddha are getting big recognition. The direction of the movie is also being praised. The only debatable point of the movie, as per the critics' talks, is the second half where the plot of the movie gets off-track, but overall, the film is getting a very good reception. ## "Code Name: Tiranga", directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, is a spy action thriller but the initial response is average to the movie. The movie had created a decent buzz through teaser/trailer, but the critics are calling it a failed attampt in this genre. Akshay Kumar's Action Adventure 'Ram Setu' Trailer Clocks Over 25 Million Views In The First 24-Hours

Mumbai, October 12 - Akshay Kumar-fronted action adventure Ram Setu is one of the most-awaited films and the trailer of the same was launched on October 11. The film, directed by Abhishek Sharma, is set in 2007 and it follows an archeologist who is investigating the nature of Ram Setu, known in English as Adam's Bridge.## The trailer has received a good response from the audience on YouTube. It was launched in Hindi along with Tamil and Telugu and clocked over 25 million views in the first 24 hours. 2022 Becomes The First Year To Have Five Indian Movies In 400 Crores Club Worldwide

Mumbai, October 11 - It has been a record-breaking year for the Indian film industry which has delivered some of the biggest blockbusters of all time. There were a lot of doubts about how the movies will perform at the box office in the post-pandemic era, and now, all the questions have been answered, however, complete normalcy at the box office is yet to be achieved. ## On the brighter side of the picture, 2022 has become the first ever year for the Indian film industry to have five films in the 400 crores at the worldwide box office. This has never happened before in Indian cinema where as many as films scored 400 crores globally. The previous highest 400 crores grossing film count in a single year was 4 which was achieved in 2018. ## SS Rajamouli's global blockbuster RRR was the first to achieve this feat this year in March. It went on to gross over 1100 crores worldwide, before Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 2 outshined it and grossed more than 1200 crores in April and became the third highest-grossing Indian film of all time. ## The third film in the 400 crores club this year was Kamal Haasan's biggest blockbuster Vikram, which was released in June. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, "Vikram" was a surprise entry into the 400 crores club and finished at approx. 414 crores. ## Director Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra Part One: Shiva was the next on the list and currently stands at approx. 430 crores while Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 is the latest entry in this quoted box office club with around 410 crores so far. The current combined gross total of all five films is 3570 crores.## Industry-wise, Tamil cinema is leading the 400 crore club in 2022 with 2 films ("Vikram", and "PS-1") while one each belongs to Telugu ("RRR"), Kannada ("KGF 2"), and Hindi ("Brahmastra"). The common thing among these five films is that all these films result in multiple languages though only "RRR" and "KGF 2" scored higher numbers in other languages. ## In 2018, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's "2.0" (744 cr.), Ranbir Kapoor's "Sanju" (588 cr.), Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone's "Padmaavat" (585 cr.), and Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer "Andhadhun" (438 cr.) had scored 400+ crores at the worldwide box office. Adipurush Makers Adopt Right Approach To Make People Change Their Minds

Mumbai, October 9 - A lot has happened over the past week regarding director Om Raut's magnum opus film Adipurush. The teaser of this Prabhas-fronted film was launched on October 3 amid huge anticipation, however, after its release, the teaser has become the center of controversy and criticism on various fronts. ## Based on the Hindu epic Ramayana, "Adipurush" is a VFX-heavy film that has become a huge topic of discussion.
