Sanjay Dutt On What Makes South Indian Film Industry Better Than Bollywood

Mumbai, February 7 - Bollywood stars Sanjay Dutt joins the actors and filmmakers who are praising the South Indian film industry for keeping the audience excited about the theatrical experience, which Bollywood is continuously failing to provide. ## For the last few years, South Indian films have been spreading their wings in the Hindi market and getting the desired results. The thing is that the South Indian industry is superstar-driven which can easily be seen in the box office results while the same is not happening in Bollywood on large scale. ## Sanjay Dutt, meanwhile, blames the involvement of corporate structure in vanishing the heroism in Bollywood while in the South, he feels that the same thing does not exist which has worked for them. "I feel that this whole corporate structure coming and encroaching our space in Bollywood ruined everything", Dutt told Variety. ## "Their business is funding and that's where the business ends. But once you start interfering in the script and in the direction and in the budgets and this and that, then things go haywire, and that's why I think we (Bollywood) lost out on a lot of good stuff during that time". ## "Whereas in the South, this corporate structure does not exist. There are people who, from the production or from the producer, to the director, to everybody involved in the team… they're passionate about making good films and that is the thing which has worked for them. And that has gone against us because that passion for making movies or that passion of making something great and working and performing is gone", he added.## Sanjay Dutt cited the recent pan-Indian box office success of South Indian film "Pushpa - The Rise" and the films of "Baahubali" filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli as examples of the vanished larger-than-life heroism in Bollywood.## On the work front, Sanjay Dutt has multiple big-ticket films ready for release. He plays the main antagonist in the upcoming Pan-India biggie, "KGF: Chapter 2", starring Yash as the protagonist. Scheduled to release on April 14, "KGF 2" is sure going to be a mega-hit in Hindi. Mumbai, Feb 6, 2022: Veteran Indian singer Bharat Ratna awardee Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92 on February 6 morning due to the multiple organ failure which made the entire country sad and how! ## Lata Mangeshkar's first Hindi song was "Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu" for the Marathi film Gajaabhaau (1943). Her first breakthrough hit was "Dil Mera Toda, Mujhe Kahin Ka Na Chhora"—lyrics by Nazim Panipati—in the movie Majboor (1948). ## Lata Mangeshkar entered into the 1950s and all the biggest hit albums belonged to her. Baiju Bawara to Shree420 to Mother India - the music of all these films become hugely popular in that era. The streak which began in the 1950s to give the biggest hit album of every decade remained till the 2000s decade. Mother India in the 1950s, Guide in 1960s, Bobby and Pakeezah in 1970s, Maine Pyar Kiya in 1980s, and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun in 1990s - she was part of all these historic and evergreen albums. Even Veer Zara can be included in the list. ## The Biggest musicals of each decade with evergreen classical songs is what Lata Mangeshkar stands for. There was a plethora of awards and recognition that Lata Mangeskar got in her illustrious career spanning over decades. Then she won the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 1989. She was honoured with Maharashtra Bhusan in 1997 and Padma Vibhusan in 1999. Why Bollywood Is Down And What They Need To Do In The Future?

Mumbai, February 6 - Bollywood is the biggest film industry of Indian cinema in terms of everything be it stars, reach, business or potential. But from the past few years, there's huge negativity happening for the industry. So despite recording one of the best years ever in terms of business produced, the Bollywood industry is not at its peak anymore.## What went wrong for the Bollywood industry and what they should do now. One major problem that occurred for the industry, in general, is that the older megastars are working in much fewer films than they were working a decade ago. The Bollywood industry is star-driven. The bigger the star, the higher the business would be there, at least initially, and then if the content is liked, the film will put huge numbers across the board. The 90s stars who are still the most popular should go for more releases especially the Khan Troika as this is their last phase. ## The next big problem is originality and novelty. The remakes in Bollywood were always in the fashion but since the past few years, it has peaked and as a result, the public is not getting excited for Bollywood as there is nothing new. Due to the arrival of OTTs, The public can watch the original films and when the same is being remade, they don't go for it. Of course, the exception is there as Kabir Singh became a huge blockbuster being a remake film but it was backed by blockbuster music which is a must for a youth mass love story for the Hindi audiences. What Bollywood needs to do is - Have to produce original films with a new and fresh story and if possible, with a bigger star cast as they will guarantee a wider reach.## Another main problem of Bollywood is - They are targetting the niche audiences of metros rather than a larger section of an audience which limits the potential as masses can't relate to those films unless the films are extraordinary. Almost 80% of cinema-goers who watch Hindi films in theaters are from the middle class. They are the audience that is responsible for a HIT or A FLOP. ## Before the advent of the multiplex, niche films were known as art films and which do not use to collect well due to non-existing audiences for those types of cinema then as it was a single screen era. But after the arrival of the multiplexes, these niche films are started collecting well and they were also started known as multiplex films which is fine as they contributed to the overall business of the films. But from the past few years, these types of films are made on a larger number than they should be, and mass commercial cinema which caters to almost 90% of the film-goers is being ignored. It is not that they are not being made but in a less number than usual and not in a correct way. So what happens is why you don't make movies for them, they don't have another choice than lapping on a different industry film even if the film is dubbed. ## A similar scenario has happened on Xmas 2021 when an event film from Bollywood 83 was released alongside south dubbed the film Pushpa. 83 was not a bad film from any angle but it was not for the larger section of the audience and then they decided to go for the south dubbed film. The collections are there to prove which kind of films the Hindi audience are want to watch. If south dubbed film can reach 100cr even after opening to a mere 3cr then with Hindi stars who are bigger, 200cr can come eyes closed. But you need to make a film for the first. Our Directors and Producers need to make films for a larger audience. ## As mentioned before, The Bollywood industry is star-driven and this is where another problem arises. The last huge star our industry has created was long back in 2000 in the form of Hrithik Roshan. Since then the Industry did not get a star with a genuine box office clout and popularity. Some stars who debuted in the late 2000s and early 2010s are still being considered new stars even after 10 years after their debut. Few of them are very talented but when the workload is so less than the expectations increases for their every single outing and it is tough to hit the expectation every single time. ## They have followed the bandwagon of the Khan troika as all of them (Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Aamir Khan) have slowed down and working in a selected number of films. But what the new generation is forgetting is that it is their initial phase so they can't work in a limited number of films as that puts a lot of pressure on huge numbers. Mumbai, Feb 5, 2022: A movie theatre which is otherwise known as a movie hall, picture house, the silver screen is the place where the audience watches movies of their interest. Indian film industry stands itself among one of the top industries in the world, having produced a large number of movies of each genre. ## Capital Cinema Hall in Mumbai is the oldest cinema theatre in India established in 1879. Currently, there are around 9000 movie theatres in India which include 6327 single screens 3200 multiple plexes as per stats. Movie halls are the best places where the audiences are accustomed to a marvellous experience which helps them overcome their daily stress, anxiety etc. ## The Theatre viewing experience establishes a connection between the viewer and the fantasy movie character. But as the times passed theatres began to experience competition from other platforms. ## It all started in the 80's decade when piracy came into existence, which eventually lead to people watching movies in VCR doing piracy which affected the silver screens. The footfalls of the movie's started to decline to post this and this was a matter of deep concern for the producers and the theatre owners then. ## The movie Maine Pyar Kiya busted this mythical the belief that footfalls can't be rosen back after it generated more than 4 cr footfalls the main reason for which being its extraordinary content. ## After Maine Pyar Kiya the industry struggled to even touch 3 Cr footfalls until movies like Hum Aapke Hain Kon, DDLJ and Raja Hindustani arrived. Around this time the popularity for television was also increasing rapidly, as a result of that, the producers began to telecast the movie immediately after the theatrical ended which put full stops on re-run trend. ## A larger number of people used to wait till the movie appeared on television as a result of the increase in television demand which further affected the theatre business. The years 2002-2007 witnessed a large increase in multiplex audiences and decline in single Screen audiences reason being the urban friendly content movies which were produced in large amount during this time. ## Rural audiences prefered massy actions movies which were limited during this period due to which single screens had a tough time. Due to this trend in more urban-friendly movies they struggled very much to hit 2 cr footfalls. These instances lead to single screens being on the verge of extinction. ## The movies like Ghajini (2008), Wanted (2009) and Dabangg (2010) broke this dogma and the single screens were revived once again. This encouraged the makers to make such types of the movie's as the audiences were more into this type of stuff. The business was revived very well but it didn't meet the craze it used to have before the 90's because of competition from the rival platforms. ## With the help of content and their mass fan following actors like Salman Khan and Aamir Khan were able to drive mass audiences into the theatres. With its unique storytelling and extraordinary visual experience the movies Bahubali and its sequel Bahubali 2 recreated the magic which the movies of the The '60s and 70's used to do. ## At the present times we are living in an era where theatres are facing huge competition from cheap internet, old enemy television and the biggest enemy Over the top television (ott) in the recent years have established itself as a formidable force to be reckoned with. ## The surge in covid cases and the lockdown helped them in doing so. Many of the movies which were ready for theatrical the release was forced to release in ott. Movies like Radhe and Laxmii which featured Megastar Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar helped out accelerate its growth. ## Many of the theatres are in closing state post-pandemic and theatre owners are facing difficulty in the business The audiences have started shifting themselves to ott platforms more often as it provides quality content at affordable rates within the four walls safety of their homes. The only thing well-wishers of theatres can do right now hopes that situations get better as time passes as the theatre owners are facing huge debts and all the more ott cannot be an alternative for the big screen Visual experience in anyways. ## It's a fact that during this tough unfavourable situation and also senseless content worsening the scenario movies will struggle to even hit 1 cr footfalls in the upcoming times. Vicky Kaushal To Join Shah Rukh Khan In Rajkumar Hirani's Film!

The duo's first and most anticipated collaboration has been in the news since last year and things are finally falling in place. ## While the pre-production work has already begun and going on in full swing, according to Pinkvilla, the filmmaker is in talks with Vicky Kaushal to play an important role in the film. Vicky Kaushal has previously collaborated with Hirani in "Sanju", in which he played the role of Ranbir Kapoor's friend in the film. ## It is reported that since Vicky bonded very well with Hirani in "Sanju", the filmmaker is in advance talks to cast him in the upcoming film based on immigration. The shoot for Atlee's film was supposed to be resumed in December last week or January but due to the rise in covid-19 cases, Atlee is now expected to resume filming in mid-February. ## Shah Rukh Khan also has a film with director Rajkumar Hirani for which the shoot will begin in March or April this year. It is reported that Atlee's team has been told to finish his project by March before Hirani's film goes on floors. ## Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan's "Pathan" is expected to release in late 2022. It will be SRK's first film since "Zero" (2018). "Pathan" is a spy actioner that also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in prominent roles. Mumbai, February 1 - The Covid19 trajectory is on the downward slope with a few circuits are also lifting the restrictions and all other circuits to follow this sooner than later. Due to the rising covid cases, the films were postponed earlier but now since the cases are falling fast, one can expect many official announcements about release dates. ## Yesterday was a big day for the industry as there were a plethora of official release dates being made and some of them were the most anticipated films. The long in making and hugely awaited RRR was the first one to announce the official date. Earlier the makers of RRR were trying to come either on 18th March or 28th April but now the date has been locked which is - 25th March 2022. ## The next big announcement was about Ajith Kumar's much-awaited action thriller Valimai which will hit the screens on 24th February 2022. Venkat Prabhu Reveals When Will 'Maanaadu' Hindi Remake Go On Floors

Mumbai, January 30 - The South Indian films continue to make waves in Indian cinema. In the last couple of years, regional movies have found their audience beyond boundaries and continue to attract them. One such film is the recently released Tamil blockbuster "Maanaadu", starring Simbu with S.J Suryah and Kalyani Priyadarshan. ## Directed by Venkat Prabhu, "Maanaadu" is a science fiction action thriller film that was highly appreciated by the audience and critics alike, with major praises coming in for making the complex concept of time-loop in a simplistic manner. The concept of the film not only attracted the Tamil audiences but also found the attention of Hindi and Telugu filmmakers. ## The Telugu production house, Suresh Productions headed by Suresh Babu recently acquired the remake rights of the film in all languages. Though the studio didn't reveal the amount, some entertainment portals revealed that the remake rights of "Maanaadu" were sold for a whopping sum of Rs. 12 crores.## The remake of "Maanaadu" is currently being planned only in Telugu and Hindi languages. While there is not an official word on when will Telugu remake go on floors, director Venkat Prabhu, who will also be helming the remake version, said in a recent interview with The Federal that "the Hindi remake of Maanaadu will go on the floors by the end of this year, so don't want to miss the opportunity".## The casting for the Hindi version is yet to be finalized, however, according to Pinkvilla, the makers are trying to rope in a young actor to play the titular role played by Simbu in the original. The film also became Ranveer Singh's sixth 100cr plus earner film after Ramleela, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, Simmba, and Gully Boy. Ranveer Singh's '83' Outscore Domestic Hits To Become Highest Overseas Indian Grosser Of 2021

Mumbai, January 29 - Ranveer Singh-fronted sports biopic, "83", which has a dismal show at the domestic box office so far, has received a much deserve appreciation at the international markets. ## The Kabir Khan-directed, which has been declared a box office flop at the Indian box office, becomes the highest-grossing Indian film at the overseas box office of a title released in 2021. It has so far grossed Rs. 63.11 crores outside India.## Akshay Kumar's domestic superhit "Sooryavanshi" is the second highest-grossing Indian film overseas with Rs. 62.2 crores. Interestingly, both "83" and "Sooryavanshi" were released by Reliance Entertainment worldwide. "Sooryavanshi", however, proved to be a major success of the company both at the domestic and overseas box office with Rs. 294 crores worldwide gross. ## "83" has so far grossed approx Rs. 190 crores, and it is largely saved by the overseas performance. Even though it is only the second Bollywood film of 2021 to cross Rs. 100 crores net mark at the domestic box office, one can not deny the fact that it performed way lower than expected. ## Talking about the overseas collection, Rajinikanth's Tamil hit "Annaatthe" is at number 3 with Rs. 47.7 crores, followed by Thalapathy Vijay's domestic Tamil blockbuster "Master" at number 4 with Rs. 45 crores.
