Baththa Box Office Day 2: Vijay Sethupathi Starrer Grosses ₹3.15 Cr as Strong Word of Mouth Drives 82% Jump and Doubles Gross Per Show
Hardly anyone expected Baththa to be the surprise of the season. Presented by Atlee and written and directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, the film is the third collaboration between the director and Vijay Sethupathi, after the cult comedy Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Seethakaathi. Set in 1986 Madras, it follows a feared gangster whose life changes when a timid eight-year-old boy accidentally traps him inside a deserted school toilet. Lijomol Jose, Ajay Ghosh and Arjun Chidambaram lead the supporting cast, and Sai Abhyankkar composes the music. Pre-release buzz was modest, but the reviews turned that around. Sacnilk's own Baththa Review of Reviews also found viewers calling it funnier and more heartwarming than the trailer suggested.
That word of mouth showed up at the box office on Day 2. On the first Friday, which was also the Gandhi Jayanti holiday, Baththa collected ₹3.15 Cr gross across 1,187 shows, an 82.1% jump from Thursday's ₹1.73 Cr. Footfalls rose from 1,29,524 to 2,20,138, and overall occupancy went from 24.0% to 47.0%. The India gross after two days stands at ₹4.88 Cr. Overseas and worldwide figures are awaited.

Day 2: ₹3.15 Cr Gross, Up 82.1% on Day 1
Thursday's opening brought in ₹1.73 Cr gross from 1,337 shows, and Friday raised that to ₹3.15 Cr, ₹1.42 Cr higher. The film earned about ₹26,500 gross per show on Day 2 against roughly ₹12,900 on Day 1, so the average per show more than doubled. Although the total show count was trimmed from 1,337 to 1,187, the film did far more business on fewer screens, which is what a word-of-mouth pickup looks like.
The test now moves to the Saturday and Sunday of the long holiday weekend. Strong ticket sales and growing audience praise put Baththa in a good position to build further.
