Suriya47 Titled Scene, Confirmed Via CBFC Certificate Attached To Sardar's Release Papers
The mystery around Suriya's 47th film has finally been resolved — not through an official announcement, but through censor paperwork. The theatrical title teaser for what was tentatively called Suriya47 has been certified by the CBFC's Chennai regional office as Scene, attached to the certificate for Sardar, which releases on September 10. With the certificate dated September 9, 2026, this all but confirms the title fans have been speculating about for months, ahead of any formal studio reveal. Scene marks Suriya's first collaboration with Malayalam filmmaker Jithu Madhavan, the director behind two back-to-back Mollywood blockbusters — the horror-comedy Romancham (2023), made on a shoestring budget of under ₹3 crore and going on to gross around ₹70 crore, and the Fahadh Faasil-starrer Aavesham (2024), one of the biggest Malayalam hits of its year. Trade reports describe Suriya's role as a police officer suspended for failing to catch a suspect, who relocates to Kerala to continue pursuing the case — accompanied by a deliberately inept team, setting up what's being pitched as a serious crime hunt told with a distinctly unserious tone, blending intense action with Jithu Madhavan's now-signature comedic sensibility. Also in the cast is Naslen, one of Mollywood's fastest-rising young actors, who broke out with the blockbuster Premalu (2024) and has since built a busy slate across Malayalam cinema. Anandraj and Silambarasan TR are also part of the cast, with reports indicating STR appears in a cameo role, along with John Vijay. Jithu Madhavan made his directorial debut with Romancham in 2023, a horror-comedy inspired by his own college hostel experiences that turned into one of the most profitable Malayalam films of its year relative to budget. He followed it with Aavesham in 2024, a black-comedy action film starring Fahadh Faasil that further cemented his reputation for blending genre thrills with sharp comic timing. Beyond directing, he also wrote Painkili (2025) and the lastest Balan: The Boy, directed by Manjummel Boys filmmaker Chidambaram. Ahead of Scene, Suriya is also set to headline SuriyaXHombale (referred to as Suriya48), directed by TJ Gnanavel and produced by Hombale Films, co-starring Kayadu Lohar and Yogi Babu. Trade reports have pointed to a possible Diwali 2026 release window (around November 6) for Scene, though the makers are yet to confirm this officially, with the film reportedly having wrapped its shoot around June 2026 after being shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu.
